I'm so happy they actually gave us closure and a happy one! I'm still so sad to see it end but I was seriously afraid I was going to be left confused and quite frankly pissed off! Lol! Great job guys, excellent show! I still wish it could go on though, maybe just a dromedy, "Kevin and Nora do Australia"?

    Right up until this scene I still wasn't sure WTF was going on-- whether we were in the 'living world' or some afterlife; I thought maybe Kevin had 'reset' the afterlife with his nuclear war in the previous episode, returned to life, lived out the rest of his days, while Nora had been killed by the 'departure machine' and was in contact with Laurie who'd drowned. Thought Kevin's arrival at Nora's doorstep was like, he'd finally arrived in this afterlife they were in and his memories of everything he regretted were gone, or suppressed, and that the look on his face while they danced was the feeling of grief that he'd lost her starting to break through...
    Then he shows up again, carpet-F-bombing her with an explanation about scouring Australia for two weeks every year for years, and it all made sense, and even though it was fairly mundane it made it all more heartbreaking and beautiful, precisely because he *never* gave up on seeing her again. And then Nora gives us sort of a soft explanation of-- if not why the departure happened-- *what* happened, and we've waited years to know, but it takes a back seat to the two of them just being together. I'm not sure another show will ever affect me quite like this one did.

    • @jkozsa

      That would have been a really interesting choice. Maybe Kevin would be terminally ill and unable to travel or had finally given up on his search, but Lily (who had reconnected with Kevin later in her life) would have taken over his mission to find Nora. She then would have truly been a "bridge" from season 1 to season 3. She would be the one who convinced Nora and Kevin get together at the end of season 1 and 3. If only this season wasn't cut so short, or hell, got another season it is something that could have been explored.

When he reads the last page of that book and then tells himself to cut this thing outta me...so we can never come back here. And I thought it was really sweet when earlier in the show when he was talking about his Dad and he said "some people hold a candle" and then how he says he always did for her... to Nora at the end....he was holding a candle. And it's poetic that he starts to cry when he says how excited he felt when he saw her but then had no idea what to say. It gives me hope that I can find a meaningful ending with my Nora too.

    I'm always thinking about how Kevin lived all those years. I mean, maybe believing she was still alive was less painful than saying goodbye. The struggle to find her was the only propose he had in life. but The agony, the desparre of knowing deep down inside him she was out there somewhere, the voice who wouldn't let him moving on or embrace the grief, the pity look he must've received. I actually can picture Jill trying to convince him Nora wasn't there anymore, worried about him. I think about Kevin's disappointment every time he had a wave of hope. Every year he would've believed that was the year. I think about the glance of happiness that probably went through his mind when Matt died and probably she would be at the funeral. I think about the amount of women people tried to introduced to him so he could've a wife, the meaningless sex, going to bed alone, their bed.

      In the end, Kevin himself had to have someone departed, so he could focus, so he could understand and believe what it's like. His lines about not believeing she was gone when everyone else said so, that's the grief of those who lost someone. That, right there, is the pain the show depicts all along. Only that Kevin decided to process his grief by searching and refusing to believe.
      And that brought them together in the end.

    What I notice about Kevin is that for the run of the show he is fearless, but unlike Nora he can't make a decision to save his own life. While Nora will make a decision in a spilt second and thought through it, but unlike Kevin she can never move on the way she needs. The final season masterfully meets them in the middle with each other, Kevin finally makes a decision while thinking it through so hecan always be their for people and be the person that he always was. While Nora finally can move on with her life without the baggage getting in the way with the people around her. Their relationship was what the show was about, accepting that life happens after Grief and will continue to. And the power of letting the mystery existing is what makes life worth living.

    After her family disappeared, Nora became the type of person to never dwell on things, she just processes the information and moves forward. So her reaction to that whole story was just, "okay, that makes sense, you're here. Wanna catch up?" Brilliant

    Given how heavy this show was, what made the finale great were the moments of levity, like the offer of the tea and Nora’s bickering with Laurie over the phone.

    I like how they played out all season that this old Nora and Kevin could be taking place in an alternative reality or in the afterlife with how Kevin acted like he didn’t remember all the times with Nora. But no it’s just him being his weirdo flawed self.
    It’s pretty meta when you consider the alternative timeline on the last season of lost and how hated that was

    great series, to me about love and loss when death occurs around us; and stay alive, stay here, afterlife's a dream however;
    there is really known way of turning back, God might be; it might not; still the one conscious sensing life is now; take care of it;
    take care of the ones that feel cheated; staying alive after close loss. We are one, who is to say that a bumblebee has less meaning than larger thinking living humans; we move together relentless with memory as long as we can. Many a writer has written that the greatest legacy is to remembered; keep your family and friends alive inside your mind.
    thanks for a great written view of life, enjoy it while it lasts. cheers, peace, love

    • @SeanCC
      @SeanCC 6 лет назад +8

      I don't think she lied at all. I think it's an amazing twist on the entirety of the rest of the show where she was the skeptic, especially with everything that happens to Kevin. We, the audience, see what happens to Kevin though since it's told mostly from his POV he could be an unreliable narrator and insane. Still, as far as we know everything that happened to Kevin really happened. Nora is a skeptic and takes nothing on faith, especially not his singular experience. She has her own singular experience and can only tell Kevin about it, and by extension, us, the audience.
      The irony is, Kevin and the audience know that crazy, cosmic, unbelievable stuff has happened. Just like Nora knows, if nothing else based on the Sudden Departure and nothing else, that crazy, cosmic and unbelievable stuff can and does happen. But knowing that you still have to take what someone else tells you on faith and decide if you believe them or you don't.

      Fly total liar. She lied about her birth year to the scientists, she lied about not knowing Kevin...

    • @mikefoley870
      @mikefoley870 5 лет назад

      I agree. The scientist said she would chicken out, but I think it was more than that. I think she realized the “truth” of what she told Kevin “happened”. That what she speculated was the ONLY thing that it could be like “on the other side”.
      And MOST importantly, her family left because she WISHED they were gone in the first place. In the moment before that machine killed her, she reconciled the truth of what Kevin had said about her holding onto her family for HER sake, not theirs. She finally let them go to be happy without her.
