It was a awesome car. 383 magnum, twin snorkel air cleaner, 727 auto column shift. The coolest thing of all was, when I bought it in 1991 from the original owner, it only had 28,000 original miles on it! Shoulda never sold it😭@@JonnyMopar
Great video, I'm going to replace my 72' Charger Non-Rallye Dash wiring harness hopefully in the summer. Love how YearOne/M&H harnesses are plug and play, makes it less painful.
For sure Sean. Some guys want to wire up their own stuff. No thanks. Plug and play and move on. BTW, gonna be doing the same on my Moms 72 Charger, probably this summer too.
First of all, great step by step video. It has to be the best that I've seen. Regarding the jumper wire to the ammeter posts. Would you recommend the same gauge wire as the black and red wires, or a larger gauge, such as a 10 gauge? I have a 72 Dart and I'm starting to experience a really inconsistent ammeter gauge issue.
It can be the same gauge but should be at least the same. Larger is fine too. I definitely recommend putting in the jumper wire. It’s a good insurance policy. You can also just put both wires on one post, but they don’t always like to flex over to the other side. Just remember this makes the gauge useless but it’s no longer a resistor getting hot that can catch fire. Not sure if this is happening but If your needle is jumping around it could also be your alternator or Voltage regulator going bad.
Hopefully, I found something that will help me! I have 69 charger R/T. Im trying to install a complete new harness using the painless wiring. It has not been painless😂
Oh man. Good luck. Yeah, they say they’re simple and maybe they are to the guy who likes wiring his own stuff. But I’m much happier doing the plug and play factory stuff.
Great and helpful video. I just replaced my non-rallye dash with a rallye dash/frame in my '70 Sport Satellite and your video helped me a lot. I rewired my dash at the same time and I'm working out a couple of wiring/turn signal gremlins now but everything else works fine. Question: Did your harness have two signal flashers? If so, is the round flasher between the ash tray and glove box specifically for the turn signals? I had a Signal Stat 175 flasher installed in the harness on the left side (just to left of the steering wheel) in my original harness and I'm assuming it is for the Emergency flashers. Do you know if this is correct? Thank you! Van McDowell
As I recall there was 2 flashers. I think you’re right, one for the turn signals and one for the emergency flashers. I vaguely remember one was beaten the ash tray and glove box. O think the other was hanging near the steering column. I can’t remember which side.
Thanks again Jonny! Mine originally had a Signal Stat 175 for one of the flashers but discovered the round new style flashers work just as good. My left front blinker wouldn't work after installing a new M&H Wiring harness AND a new turn signal switch.... started thinking it could be the flasher but it wasn't (after trouble-shooting everything else). Turned out the new turn signal switch was bad and I installed another new one yesterday. Now on to the windshield wipers.... The 2 speed motor works when correct power is applied but NEW 2 speed switch I just installed isn't sending power to it..... ##@$& Thanks again Jonny!! 👍
@@VanMcDowell It never ends, does it? Well glad you got another box checked and good luck on the next problem user. And as always, thanks for the comments and update on your trials and tribulations. It helps me realize I’m not alone. lol.
I’m curious why you didn’t replace those archaic light bulbs with LEDs? Your charging system would love ya for it and your dome light cover wouldn’t get cooked anymore! I converted my 70’ to all LED, including headlights! Those old Halogens had to go…I can finally see! Converting to LEDs you won’t regret!
@@JonnyMopar Sure do, and you can get them in different colors too! The small ones are (if memory serves) are the 194’s, dome is 1004, and you’ll love the 1156/57’s, they are bright…nobody can say they didn’t see your rear end lol. I think you have the 4 headlight system (again, if memory serves) which uses the 5 and something inch lights, they make’m for those too! I always felt like I was over driving my head lights…but not anymore! Those old Halogens had to go. Now, it’s like having late model head lights! The first time you drive at night, the WOW factor will jump out!! You won’t need resisters either, plug-n-play…any issues with turn signals, just upgrade to newer flashers. There are LEDs for all bulb sizes for your ride. Remember, call anytime Jonny 😎
@@JonnyMopar I replaced my dash bulbs with LED, they didn’t work well. Maybe it was my dimmer switch, who knows. Im going to put the regular ones back in. I drive my 69 in the day mostly anyway. Guess I could revisit down the road.
I got my leds from Amazon. Converted everything. Just remember if you do led tail lights and front blinkers, to replace both flasher units for ones that support led
Great tip leaving the bulkhead connection for last.👍👍👍
Thanks Jaybo.
I have done that and I wish I had this video to watch before I did mine. Great job!!!
Thanks 1968charger, sorry I waited so long to do it.
Very cool, makes me feel a lot better about this future inevitable endeavor.
Lol. I hate messing with wiring, but it really isn’t that bad with a new harness. Still doesn’t stop me from procrastinating though.
Good progress, wiring can be a pain. One of those antenna/ ignition nut sockets come in handy.
For sure
Very helpful video,Thanks Jonny!
Thank you Larry.
Great video Jonny. That 68 is in good shape
Thanks Stuart
Same interior color my '68 Charger had. AA1 Silver exterior and the funky aqua blue interior. Such a awesome car!
Oh wow. That sounds like a really cool color combo.

Where did the new harness come from?
YearOne.

good knowlege of this subject
Thanks Scott.
Bulbs are expensive now. I had a pair of 1156's that I bought in the early 2000's and they were $1.37. Even at Wal-Mart the same thing is $6 - $7 now.
I ended up buying a bunch of bulbs on Rockauto for a good price. All the two packs of bulbs are expensive.
Gees! So much for cheap China parts.
Rockauto gets you in the shipping it seems.
Do you have the map light or is it missing?
No, I have it. I haven’t put it back in yet.

Hmm. Do they make small LED’s for the dash? I didn’t really think about it. Kinda rushing to get it running for MATS.
