if your leasing sometimes you have find a location you believe will fit your clientele. (parking menu kitchen and decor ) then build your business plan around what equipment is already there what can be changed and what you need . hopefully changing very little to save costs but having room to grow in the proper direction . restaurants are so risky because you can have all the best equipment decor and menu, but the wrong location.

Aside from the equipment you need to create your food item. The 2 most overlooked, expensive kitchen expense is a kitchen hood and a grease trap. If the retail location you are looking at already doesn't have them, you'll end up paying a hefty price to install them.
You have to do your research in dept about what is needed for the kitchen area. Keep in mind the details cause they will drain your money away like silverware, you have to figure out ways not to keep losing then sometimes in the garbage. Also the breakage of plates.
You need to identify what your theme of the restaurant and what you'll be serving to answer that question. But most staples for a kitchen is a double fryer, flat top, multiple stoves and ovens, grill, mixing equipment, prep tables, ladder racks, fridge and freezers, steam wells for stainless pans, dishwashing equipment, etc......
Thank you, Wilson! I have an assignment due tomorrow for a program I was fortunate enough to be accepted into. We have to present what we think a business plan for a food business should be. This helps me a lot!

I have an idea : it's a new type of restaurants : eating-spots, in an eating-spot, food keeps changing, chefs also rotate, thanks to this rotation of food and chefs, eating-spots are way more powerful than restaurants, along with that, there is an app, people vote for the food that will be cooked in the next days, menu is influenced by the live input of the customers via a mobile app

Awesome video wilson.Great job you are doing. This is really perfect, timely and full of practical insights.Could you help with the template for the Financial Projections? Many thanks once again
Wilson thank you from the bottom of my heart that you share all these info for free.!! You are very cool!! :) I have a question that bothers my head a lot. How do you secure the idea that you have, when you present the whole detailed business plan to investors or bankers, so you are sure they can not steal it and just do it themselves???
Thanks for the nice words! There is always that tiny risk of it happening. But honestly...it is all down to the execution and the person doing it. You are doing it out of your passion - they are not. And some people will vibe with you vs. another that is doing a similar concept. So don't worry about copycats or ppl stealing your ideas. It will happen (especially when you get more successful) but you just roll with your punches and do your thing. Cause honestly...even if you go through legal route - it is draining and not worth it (that is my exp anyways). Stay focused on your business and things will fall into place step by step.
@@WilsonKLee That was a real pep talk to my ears!!! I guess you are right, you cant avoid copycats but you can always prepare and do your homework so you can be better than them . Thanks again for your time! I hope all the best :)
Great video Wilson. That last part is easily the most important. Having good solid well-built realistic financial projections is very important to benchmark your progress when you first start out. You need to know what to remove and what to add in from your menu and from your overall restaurant, and it all goes back to the numbers.
Hello Wilson. Great videos and information. You mentioned that you could provided a template for the coffee business plan. Could you provide me with one?

Thanks so much and more power to your channel.
Have a financial strategy in your business plan. We see business owners scrambling to find business funding to support their growth. Often these owners take on an MCA loan or two or three and then their cash flow is getting hit hard by daily repayments coming straight from their bank account. Meeting payroll and food costs and rent means that you need to have money in the bank when those payments are due. Finding a flexible financing strategy to fit that need is crucial to your business plan so you don't end up putting a bandaid on the broken leg.
Great vdo for entrepeneurs in food industry.Thx u so much.Keep going. May I offer some recommendations for improvement: I found punch and kick sounds are irrelevant and too often and sometimes so loud that I couldn't here your voice clearly, perhaps you could reconsider about put those sound effects less frequent and tune down a bit.Thx again.
Wilson K Lee - How, you awesome... I'm so relieved now for gaining the needed information. Appreciate your input. I was oblivion before, right now I'm on par. 👏👏👏
I am very grateful that you made this video. I’ve been having ideas for a 10 year plan on opening my first restaurant. I got a new job as an assistant general manager recently of a quick service ice cream place and realized that I’m taking the steps necessary to make my dream real. I’ve taken all the appropriate notes from this video and it has given me a great starting place. However, I was wondering what the appropriate timeline should be. I chose 10 years because I wanted to pay off some debts and raise my credit. Also after being in this industry for my entire adult life I realized that I needed more experience and reputation. How long would you recommend I plan out before making any big moves? I’m already like 2 years into my 10 year plan.
It is good that you're adding some management experience to your belt. I would keep at it and dig deeper to understand upper management workings + operations. But understand that no one is ever "ready" to make the big move. It is whether you kick your own butt to make it happen. There will ALWAYS be something you won't have any idea about in business...that is scary and filled with landmines in your path. But it is up to you to fight your fear and SELF that you won't have all the exp and reputation to go through the jungle unscatched. I didn't have any exp. with ice cream when I started. ZERO. My bread & butter was running a tutoring & event business at that time. And even now with 10 years of business exp. I am constantly learning new things that pop up. Things always change. For some, the uncertainty is part of the thrill. Timeline wise....no idea. It's about when are you going to scratch that itch and start is the question you need to ask yourself.
The first time someone in my life fascinated me. So what I am going to say is that: "i love everything about you" your style, the way you talk, the way you are and your videos graphics. All of it very very fabulous. And thanks for that.
Thank you for the suggestion of upwork!! I posted a job for my hip, upscale tea &ice cream shop idea and have some of the most exciting offers to make my ideas come to life. Wilson K Lee - How To Open A Restaurant / F&B Shop Again, thanks. I was planning (before pandemic) to launch a bubble tea & ramen shop; but, I’d modified the menu to do gyoza before adding ramen to the menu (still need to to research to see if my ideas are sound). Also, I was thinking about a Delivery Only option & just watched your Cloud Kitchen video. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 If I do launch in late summer as planned, I’ll send an invite, were in northern Ohio
Thanks again Wilson. Love your videos, and all your great tips. I’m planning on opening a small restaurant in the spring of 23. Do you have any recommendations on where I can get a grant?? I did some research of some but got a lot of mixed reviews😳
Your videos are super helpful! Thanks! We are in the recovery stage from the pandemic and are struggling a bit but we will get through. What are your thoughts on combined restaurants similar to KFC/Taco Bell, 31-Flavors/Dunkin Donuts?
I'm a little confused as how to tally up the projections by studying my neighbors restaurant if I'm not sitting there counting from open to close. How do I take the data collected to see what's made in a day by only going to take the tally certain at times?
I assume most people won't have time to sit at their competitors' restaurants from open to close. So I suggest only tallying the busy periods (ie. morning, lunch, and dinner; but ofcourse it depends on the concept too on what those rush periods are). The slower periods most likely won't make up for a large chunk of the rev so you can leave it out of the projection OR you can put a placeholder estimation (ie.10 customers during slow periods) and put that into your projection. Remember that these are only projections and you should account for discrepancies when you try to make sense of your data. At the end of the day, you're a lot closer to understanding the potential of your restaurant and will be valuable in sharing it in the business plan.
Wilson K Lee - How To Open A Restaurant / F&B Shop hey Lee, thanks for sharing mate! Just a follow up question. How about if the area didn’t have any similar type of business, what would be the projection?
I’m planning to open a restaurant with my husband, but we have no experience on the business at all, so I’d like to know if there is some place where we can have instructions, information and a guide about the procedures to run a restaurant. Thank you to anyone who can give me that information! 🙏
Hey thanks for all these videos! It’s amazingly helpful 🥰 maybe you can also help me to understand which course I should be in coz I’m really into pursuing my college degree. ☺️ I, though own a super small coffee shop now but still struggling with a lot of things. Thanks for your help!
Hi Wilson. Just bumped into your vids and watched two lengthy ones without skipping an ad because i think I just have no right to. This is a FREE master class right here! Just got one question, as somebody who is just starting her small business.. what's better? Create a plan, then save the money I need to realize it, or create a plan and look for potential investors? To which I still don't have any idea how "share" works? Thanks!
Appreciate the kind words Ammarah!! There's no right or better option. That's because everyone has their own style of doing things. Some like to do it all themselves - which is totally commendable! Others prefer to seek help from others (ie. getting a partner or get funding from banks, investors, etc.) and get started quicker in exchange for giving away equity or having the pressure to return the money. That is totally fine and common too. You need to reflect on what suits you best. It is going to be hard either way :) And I bet you dind't know a lot of stuff before starting. Learning how share structure works will just be another thing to get an idea of. No - you won't be a master at all the complex structures, but you just need a general jist of it. Best of luck!
Hi great videos Wilson... simple but clear. Im from belgium and about to take over a successful and famous thai restaurant with my thai girlfriend, since they are retiring early next year. Can you make a video about equipment one needs for a restaurant kitchen
I need this type of video!!
You need to indentify the concept first, the customers you gonna deal with. In another way the video maker needs to know you plan first to help you.

it's a new type of restaurants : eating-spots,
in an eating-spot, food keeps changing, chefs also rotate,
thanks to this rotation of food and chefs, eating-spots are way more powerful than restaurants,
along with that, there is an app,
people vote for the food that will be cooked in the next days,
menu is influenced by the live input of the customers via a mobile app

Been learning a lot from your videos. Thank you so much!
Glad to hear it Veronica! Are you starting a restaurant?
Make sense. I see the flaws in my business plan, I can make it more effective. THANKS 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Glad it was helpful!
If I do launch in late summer as planned, I’ll send an invite, were in northern Ohio
Can you talk a little bit about exit strategies?
totally. this is something that we recently did... sold our ice cream chain.
Great content. Where do you have the Business plan template?

I love your work! Thank you😘
Thank you! 😊
Thanks for the video dude. This is great stuff! I really like the detail on planning. You should make some ketogenic sweets for your shop! ;)
Thanks for watching Shane!
Do you have a sample business plan for this.
I’m planning to open a restaurant with my husband, but we have no experience on the business at all, so I’d like to know if there is some place where we can have instructions, information and a guide about the procedures to run a restaurant. Thank you to anyone who can give me that information! 🙏
I love the sound effects. They catch my attention, which I’m sure you intended.🕵🏻♂️
Haha you're one of the few that likes it! Thank you for tuning in Sienna!

Glad you liked it!
i am trying to bring new foods to my country, do I say what they are made of in my business template?
It is going to be hard either way :)
And I bet you dind't know a lot of stuff before starting.
My girlfriend already works in the kitchen there for almost a year, and the takeaway is booming now during corona, which is positive if i may say. Im thinking of implementing delivery if this situation lasts for months... any tips or advice most welcome! TIA! Thomas
