I suspect a great deal of this is the result of planes and boats/ships crashing and sinking in the ocean. A lot if this debris you show looks like it could have come out of someones luggage. Also, much of it could be from fishing boats that use the ocean to dump their refuse instead of off loading it into dumpsters on shore
From my daughter (6): Thank you so much for helping save the beach and the oceans so the fish (and we) can have better lives!!!!!!!!!! If we ever make it to Japan (we are in America) we will help you! Once I get fully vaccinated we are going on trash pick up adventures here!
This reminds me of that scene in spirited away when chihiro pulls the fishing line out of the stinky demon and it turna into all this junk and trash and it was actually a river spirit Such a great job guys ♡
Hey beautiful people! Thanks so much for your work, Rachel and Jun! You are amazing. I also pick up trash here in my little village in Germany. Its so important to keep our environment clean.
after looking this video I shown it to my brother and my cousin and we all went to the forest behind our village and clean it up completly ^^ I'm quite proud of myself , it's amazing what you managed to do in this video , continue like this ;D
My family used to have a forested area behind our house. A stream went through it that came from further into the city, and every spring (after snow melt and before the grass got too high) we would go out and pick up bags and bags of plastic bottles and stuff. Right behind our house the stream spread out and got shallower so all the trash carried by the melt water ended up there.
When I hear Japan I always thought about their cleanliness. I can't believe what I am seeing right know on the beach!!! It really is happening, plastics are everywhere. Thank you for showing us and inspiring us to clean our surroundings!
It’s the ocean, 100% of the trash can’t be just from Japan although majority of it probably is. A lot of it is just floating out at sea and washing up onto the shores of many countries
Most likely all of that is not from Japan. Trash can travel in the sea for thousands of miles. With all the typhoons the trash from damaged areas is also in the mix and will take weeks to wash up again, maybe even more time than that.
Birdtaro Everywhere needs help. Team trees, Team Ocean, Team Rivers, Team Meadows, Team Cities, Team Ponds, Team Animals, Team Bugs, and Team Humans. We are all important and all connected.
I mean, it kind of sucks that caring for the Earth that has always provided for us and knowing it will not continue to do so for very long if we continue on the path we're on is not enough but hey, people that care about the environment in their everyday life not just because its a trend will take whatever they can get! A united effort is the only way to go, before its too late.
There is one thing even more important than cleaning up trash. And that is to not make trash to begin with. Of course everyone will create trash. There are plenty of times when you simply can't avoid it. But you can change a LOT in your daily life to reduce the amount of plastic trash you create. For instance; I'm not drinking anything from plastic bottles anymore. Well, I use a Dopper which is a refillable bottle. I don't eat individually packaged cookies, nor do I eat candy bars (Twix and the like). The cookies are replaced by something home-baked which is really easy to make (about 10~20 minutes every 1.5 weeks). I also buy my peanuts and other nuts from the market in order to reduce plastic. I've even switched to another brand of 'hagelslag' which doesn't have a plastic window in its box. But there aren't many near-zero-waste options available. Therefore I'm also actively asking stores what they can offer. This way I'm letting them know that there is a demand for those options. The stores need to change, but they pretty much only care about short-term money. Sure, it might cost us a bit more to get things to change, but it is worth it. Each breath we take we breathe in micro plastics. This can't be healthy for anyone.. I'm not asking you to live a zero-waste lifestyle. It's hard, and I can't do it either. But please please please reduce the amount of waste you produce. It helps a lot. (It would also help a lot if you could pick up some trash every once in a while though :p )
Reusable bags when grocery shopping to. Or my mom crochets things and uses the plastic bags as stuffing. Reusable straws and take them with you when you go out. And a few small things I can't remember right now. But it all helps a small small bit. Not a lot but it better then nothing
I always bring my own bags to the store so I don't have to use plastic ones! I also always try to make everything at home so I don't need to take processed food anymore. I began to have these good habits when I learn about how much plastic are in the ocean, anymore tips and suggestions is appreciated
I would also like to suggest that people use solid bars of soap instead of liquid hand soaps or bath soaps from bottles. That is a huge way to eliminate plastic waste. And if possible shampoo bars (Lush sells them). I used to go through so many bottles of soap! And try to avoid plastic bottles that are not clear or white. Apparently plastic isn't recycled when they are dyed colors.
It makes sense you’re finding the things you do. All the weather patterns that take homes from where they stand. I’m so very inspired what you’re doing! 🥰🇨🇦
Every secondary school kid should be made to do this at least twice it will have 2 impacts 1st showing them how much rubbish is washed up and 2nd to open their eyes to the impact of one group of kids on 1 beach can do
Every time my mom and I would walk our dog, we would pass by this small stream and wooded area. And every time, we would look at the trash and curse ourselves for forgetting a trash bag. But you and your video have motivated me to go straight there and pick up around the stream to which I found plastic bottles, cans, paper cups, and a METAL SINK. Ekkk. Just wanted to let you know that you made a real environmental difference so THANK YOU, Rachel, Jun, and the rest of the people in this video. Keep up the great work 😊 - Fayetteville, North Carolina
@Haley Fowler That's great, Haley! I don't do that but I would like the habit of driving somewhere to pick trash up. There's just so much small trash in cracks and even in the ground where we can't see. :/
i feel like that would be great not only for serving, but also for growing. my school had something like that in elementary school (but it was more for people and not the environment, even though thats good too), and that was it so I feel going on a trip to clean a beach or something like planting trees would be great.
Love it, well done everyone, in a world that some people are busy taking everything that’s good in this world apart, it’s nice to see people starting to put it back together 👍😎👍
Thank you for cleaning the beach! I was kinda embarrassed to watch this video as one of the Japanese😰I didn’t even know the beach filled with trush like this exists in Japan. I would love to join you for next cleanup event!! Sorry for my bad English😅
Wow, I really hope you can come! It was a really nice group of people from sooo many different countries! It was really motivating to hang out with so many people wanting to do something to help. 💕 and your English is great!
It's not really something you can stop. Plastic gonna plastic in the water. It's more about being vigilant and being able to take care of things more often than once a year.
It's important to remember that Japan has a lot of typhoons so rubbish and miscellaneous items can be washed out to sea and end up elsewhere in the country and also just elsewhere in the world.
It is, largely due to groupism/conformity pressure though. Mostly they worry about being judged for littering rather than caring about cleanliness itself. Even if not, don't forget that there's regularly times where the ocean comes into the towns and drags stuff back out... Or just stuff drifting from miles upon miles away
This is so sad. I used to pick up trash for three hours a day down the same highway near my house every single day as a teenager and it always amazed me that every single day there was NEW trash so it was a constant war to keep it clean, I'm native american and my mother raised me very strictly to respect the earth and that littering was disgusting, my mother would get so angry and heartbroken over the disrespect for the earth that she would cry when she saw litter, bring raised that way I could never and still can't understand how people can treat our home like this.. it breaks my heart..
I'm black and Canadian, and my mom raised me to be respectful and clean up after myself. I don't "expect" someone to do it for me. I feel that it's my duty. I understand respecting the earth. We all have to live on it!!
I have a walking/biking path behind my house. Every now & then I'll bring along a trash bag when i walk and pick up trash I find along the way...which is a LOT. _Especially_ lots of FACE MASKS! 😷 SO disgusting! 🤮
Sadly a lot of people aren't taught how important it is to protect the earth that God has given us or they just don't care. I wish they would because the way things are going right now, the future isn't looking too good. :(
Get this: sometimes I try to clean up my neighbourhood and I get stares and disapproval. It's cultural yes and it's a culture that needs to change. Not all cultural things are ok - this should be a moto in the 21 century if we want to see a change.
I’m so glad seeing cleanups like this everywhere around the world. Most events are little ones but they help people understand the damage. I live in the middle of a dessert and help a lot in highway cleanups. I hope that us inlanders can do our part to prevent garbage from getting into your neighborhood
And then there is place like my little part of the world where you can get arrested for cleaning out stuff on public spaces because the government hire people to clean out thing (but they never do it, too much to cover, not enough people, if you are lucky you'll see them once every 10 years) and doing it yourself means you are stealing someone else job..... it's really depressing lol
This was a great video! I grew up doing school group cleanups. We would go to different local creeks and ditch areas in the neighborhoods to pick up trash. Still doing this in my current neighborhood. We have regular creek cleanups and it works! It always looks nice. We take a bag along with us for walks as well. The other great thing about it is that this creek joins the Santa Ana River that goes directly to the Ocean. This prevents the debris from going any further. Thanks for your hard work!
We do in europe. Then you go to asia, expecially south asia, and this is the situation. It's sucks and it makes me sick. I oftern wonder why we europeans do so much to reduce plastic if in the other side of the world people just don't care.
lilly lazer but actually, did you know that you have to use your own bag over 8000 times before it’s better then using plastic bags? It obviously depends on which bag you use, but I’m talking about those fabric bags.
@@madapigi1 I think Europe it's not doing that much good that people think, I have seen beaches more or less like this all over Portugal and Spain not to talk about other countries more poor... and most of our trash is send to Asia to land fields and illegal burners, still a work in the process to the society wake up not the government, society is the culprit

This was just ONE small beach in Japan... It's mind-boggling just to think about how many more beaches around the world that looks the same... It makes me real sad. I had gladly joined you on the beach if I was in Japan but as long as the pandemic is going that can't happen for a while. Keep up the good work! 👍🤩

Jayfrid exactly right!
@Rouge Raven Yup, it should
I suspect a great deal of this is the result of planes and boats/ships crashing and sinking in the ocean. A lot if this debris you show looks like it could have come out of someones luggage. Also, much of it could be from fishing boats that use the ocean to dump their refuse instead of off loading it into dumpsters on shore

Thank you so much for caring for the earth we really appreciate it!!!
Island countries get a ef ton of trash
Most likely all of that is not from Japan. Trash can travel in the sea for thousands of miles. With all the typhoons the trash from damaged areas is also in the mix and will take weeks to wash up again, maybe even more time than that.
Just imagine what other countries look like. Go pick some trash!
@Dark of the knight Ok? I don't see your point. Picking up trash and consuming less plastic is still super important.

I love how cleaning up parts of the earth (may it be beaches, forests ect.) it becoming a big trend.
Let's hope this trend doesn't die...

Erick Zucconi its the worst in asia. So start there
There is one thing even more important than cleaning up trash.
How does this only have 20-ish likes??
Wat voor reacties krijgt ge van winkels wanneer ge om verandering vraagt?

Can we just talk about how that lady found part of a WOODEN GRAVE MARKER on the beach?!?
It's important to remember that Japan has a lot of typhoons so rubbish and miscellaneous items can be washed out to sea and end up elsewhere in the country and also just elsewhere in the world.

Omg, this made me cry.
I am amazed that this is in Japan though. I always thought Japan was a very clean place.

Reduce. Re-use. Recycle.
