I had the same experience when rescuing a cat last Christmas! He was in a parking lot, hiding under cars due to the extreme cold at the time... he was less than 2 months old and extremely skittish.... Me and several neighbors tried to catch him but didn't have luck :( we were really scared because he was really small, hungry and filled with parasytes... plus the weather wasn't helping. We got a cat trap from the animal shelter where we had previously adopted a cat. We were really lucky and caught the cat within the first night we set the trap! Sadly, the shelter was full so they couldn't take care of him... It's been almost 10 months since then, today I woke up to him purring and asking for cuddles! His name is Yu and he is such a wholesome little guy, even though he loves getting into trouble :) I hope we get to spend many many years together!
@@Vlad2319 Wow, that's pretty brave! My mom tried to capture a stray kitten with her bare hands once and ended up in the hospital because of the nasty bite she got in return. She was able to catch the kitty though and he ended up being adopted a few months later :)

Do you know whty ppl beg for subs? No you don't seem to know... You are named like a meme so OBVIOUSLY not. And that is a reason why their videos are nor recommended nor featured by YT.
@@LathropLdST lol what does my name have to do with anything I stated on my comment? At this point you couldn’t get more obvious with your reaching for an argument. There’s also a fine line between asking for subs and begging for subs, hence why I used that word specifically. You can ask for subs without getting to the point of obnoxiousness; and yes, I do have decent knowledge about the RUclips algorithm. I also know that Rachel and Jun’s channels are quite decently favoured by YT so you’re completely wrong about that.
@@LathropLdST I don’t understand what you’re aiming to achieve by shitting on someone’s innocent comment simply praising a channel they like. Do you seriously have nothing better to do?
the fact that she wasn't hissing and spitting, nor acting super-terrified, is a good sign she's not super feral. It also looks like she was a TNR cat since her ear is tipped. Maybe she once lived in a home before becoming a stray. Hopefully she can adapt to a home life! But don't be disappointed if things don't work out. Not all stray cats can't be transitioned to living a life in a home. It all depends on their level of feral-ness.
3:00 As someone who works in animal rescue, the "trying to gain her trust" methods are usually NOT the normal ones lol! For cats that have already been trapped we almost always end up using a drop trap, or if they're being fed by someone and trust them, sometimes we can get them into their garage or even their house and we just do a good ol' fashioned "blanket over the cat" capture (which works because it confuses them for a second once you put the blanket on, giving you enough time to pick them up, and it also acts as a safety shield to stop you from being scratched haha). If you ever need to use a humane trap like this again, put a blanket over it! It disguises the trap from the outside, and once the cat is inside, it provides comfort for the cat by creating a small space for them in which they can be safe, instead of leaving them trapped with vision to the wide open world. The blanket also gives a little shelter from the elements if it's really sunny or windy, but you should NEVER trap a cat on a rainy day (they could drown) or overnight in the cold. You can also cover it with some leaves and sticks if you're trapping in a natural area. Another tip is to use a really smelly fish like mackerel or tuna, and put it almost all the way at the back but not all the way at the back where they can reach in and get it with their paws. I'm really glad you caught this gal and I trust you will be the best possible owners for her! I just found this channel and your dedication to your animals is already turning me into a big fan, keep up the amazing work! And woo, extra credit for that awesome handmade drop trap ;D
They posted a video a week ago "we're back!" So videos are coming! Didn't know the channel was taken away tho, that's terrible! But since they're back, the situation is probably solved.
You should search for "Kitten Lady" here on youtube, maybe even get in touch with her for rescue tips! She's a kitten fostering animal rescue queen and knows a lot about that world. Recently she has a litter of babies that she was able to reunite with their feral mother, and has talked about plans to return the feral mother to her rightful home when the kittens are weaned. Feral cats aren't necessarily meant to be tamed and kept indoors, a lot of times they're better off being spayed/neutered and returned to their (outdoor) home. Even more so if they have a colony. This cat you captured doesn't seem completely feral and may be able to adjust to indoor life, especially if she's been in a home before and ended up a stray. Perhaps she's always been a street cat though and is only somewhat used to humans since she's been fed by them. That eye is definitely a concern and I'm glad you were able to have that checked out by a vet. Best of luck with her, again definitely get in touch with Hannah "Kitten Lady" if you can for the best advice you'll ever need regarding rescues!
Additionally, i recommend Flatbush Cats! They rescue street cats in NYC and take you on the fostering and socializing journey with them. Its super helpful and wholesome.
We found a cat last year that looked EXACTLY like this. I was able to capture her three kittens by hand, and we used a trap to catch momma. The kittens were all adopted out, but we decided to keep the mother, who was mostly blind. We named her Delphi, after the blind oracle :)
For all the people watching this for their own kitty rescuing endeavors, I used this technique to rescue an abandoned cat off the street near my home and I can confirm it worked! Instead of a netting and wood drop trap though, I used a large cardboard box and duck taped it with more cardboard to give it more weight and jury rigged a sliding door onto it, so if you are more on a budget this is a complete workable alternative. Just got to be ready to run to the box to hold it down in case your kitty is bigger/stronger.
Me: sees street cat Tries to help. Cats runs away. "Guess I can't do anything about this..." *walks away* Rachel: I will mobilise an army to get this cat a home!
I "rescued" a kitten (she literally walked right up to me, she had no microchip and no one came forward when I posted her around) so we ended up keeping her 😊 She has cost about $1000 so far lmao, worth it!! Cost of spay is just INSANE right now and she had a very bad upper respiratory infection. She's loving life now with my other cat and two dogs 🥰
Michelle, THANK YOU for helping the kitten and giving her a good, loving home! I, too, have ended up spending sooooo much on stray kitties...and I am convinced every penny is worth it! 🐈😻🐈😻🐈😻🐈😻
Me too, I found 15 feral / stray cat's living in the pool area of my apt complex. I began feeding them in April. Found one of them bringing me her 2 kitten's to feed. Kittens ended up going to Foster and about 2 months later one of my 2 house cat's died. I then waited just a bit to see if my remaining cat wanted a companion and the day I was going to trap momma cat, she beat me to it by running right into the trap the minute she heard my voice. She was my best baby for 7 yrs till she was diagnosed with cancer and 5 wks later my older one was diagnosed with lung cancer. I feed these cats 365 days of the year in frigid artic blast (Chicago IL has some bad winters) I warmed up canned food and took it out to them come snow, rain and heat plus threat of eviction. I'd do it all over again if I had to.
It's so hard when they need emergency care. Usually with a cat like that, you would want to spend a few weeks earning her trust before you tried to capture her, but with her eye the way it was, it's impossible to take a slow and easy route. Yall did a great job! I used a similar metal havahart trap to catch a feral cat that was heavily pregnant. I didn't have time to gain trust, I had to catch her before she had her babies. She never was tame, and she hated the 3 months she spent in our house (2 months for the babies, 2 weeks to wean before surgery, 2 weeks to recover from her spay). Once we released her we never saw her again, but I know she has a better life now that she's not constantly pregnant, and we found homes for all 5 of her kittens (including one that developed a serious condition that the vet was certain would be fatal, and he grew out of it). Also, your vet is AWESOME to film for yall and trim her claws. Our vets office does the same thing RE covid, and we have to wait in the car for a vet technician to come out and pick up our pets.
Honestly, this seems like the perfect arrangement. You guys take care of, foster and adopt out these kitties, we fund it by watching the channel + we all get serotonin in the process
We have a cat that we suspect is a Norwegian Forest Cat, and he does the same damn thing. It doesn't matter how small the box is. I've seen this 14 pound bastard absolutely demolish a 12-pack soda box trying to fit his fat body inside. So yes. If he fits, he sits. And if he doesn't fits, then damn it, he's going to *make* himself fits.
"I thought it more important to catch her than film!" is the best, most sincere, sentence of all the millions of rescue videos on youtube. You rock!!!....n keep rocking! Cheers!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😍😍
*If it's a boy, maybe a name like Wakō, since he has one eye?* The word Wakō - literally "Japanese pirate" or "dwarf pirate" - refers to historical pirates of varying origins (although most were predominantly from Japan) who raided the shores of China, Korea and Japan from the 13th to 16 centuries. It also follows the two syllable pattern of the other cat's names as a bonus. Maybe like so Rachel and Jun can see?
I know you say you’re fostering her for a while, but part of me thinks this may end up being a failed foster and that y’all will end up totally falling in love with her and keeping her lol
"Jun likes the idea a lot, and even wants to build a fostering room in our future house" That's so cute!!! I also want to do a fostering thing for animals (mostly doggos 💖❤️💕)
She's lucky her husband is a crazy cat lady. Because she's one as well. Not that I mind though, the cats will be happier and so I will be as well. I've actually thought I would like to do something similar until I tried it once and realized how stressful it is for me to care for a cat. Not because I don't like it, but because I become too attached and start worrying all day about their wellbeing, so for my own, I let him go. I also had no money to take him to the vet. But he still comes daily to my room to eat. Just to eat though. Once he's done eating off he goes.
It seems like she may have been someone's pet at one time, it's like she wants to trust you, but she's had bad experiences that make her suspicious. She's SO beautiful... I KNOW I'd keep her. That's why we've cared for rescue/stray/feral cats for 25 years. CONGRATULATIONS! There's a special place in heaven for both of you. ❤️🐈🙏🤣
This is kind of how my wife and I ended up with our fourth cat. We found a grey tabby/Siamese mix living in our vegetable garden, but unlike this one, he was super friendly, and would come right up to us for attention and, later on, food or treats. After a couple weeks, we decided to take him to the vet, and ended up welcoming him into the family. It's been a couple months now, and while cat-to-cat relations aren't yet perfect (he's a bit kittenish in his behavior sometimes, which annoys the other cats after a while), he's quickly become part of the family. In fact, he's become the one cat in our house that I can count on to *not* run outside if I have the door open. He won't even go within five feet of the front door, and unless he's in his carrier, he freaks out if you're even standing with him by the door with it open. He'll do anything he can to not be outside. He did need treatment for parasites, likely due to his presumed diet of rodents and rabbits, and he had an ear infection, but he didn't have fleas, which was a plus. Otherwise, he's perfectly healthy and happy. He's a bit wild, but super sweet and affectionate. Gotta love 'em.
Thank you for rescuing him!! Adopt/Rescue Don't shop. I'm suprised he doesn't want to go back outside, the cats I've had that used to live outdoors wanted to go out all the time, they couldn't resist the chance to go hunting again.
@@cortneyrens Yeah, he's definitely spoiled. Plus, about three weeks after he came in, we had a massive storm and lost power for two days, and that helped bond him with our other cats. That's what more or less sealed the deal for him, "it's warm and dry and safe in here, and all you can eat and drink, I think I'll stick around!". One of our other cats, though, if we don't watch it, he'll take off, but he never leaves the yard, and if we don't go with him, he gets scared and comes right back, which is kind of hilarious, because in our little herd, he's definitely the boss, and asserts himself rather effectively. In fact, the new cat completely defers to his authority, and they've never really fought.
@@bradleyard4195 Lol, your newest cat found himself a permanent all inclusive resort to live at! And the "leader" cat seems to like being a big fish in a small pond, once he gets out in the big world he freaks out. Cats have such interesting/unique personalities. My cat (Tinkerbell) loves to smell everyones shoes and feet, when she was little she would fall asleep inside shoes.
This brought memories. About three years ago, I stumbled upon an emaciated tuxedo of about twelve weeks in a dollar store parking lot. She had discharge from her eyes and nose, and I could hear her weezing. She was huddled under a shopping cart, and I was determined not to leave her. I bought a cat food and let her eat for a bit. Luckily, she wasn't as skittish as the cat in the video. I ended up using a towel that I had left in my car because I had taken our dog to get neutered that morning. I snuck up behind her and swaddled her in the towel while running to the car. The vet said that she had pneumonia, and if it had gone untreated, she would have died within the next three days. Let me be the first to say that it is worthwhile to save an animal like Rachel did here. I saved a kitten's life, and in return, I got the best sleeping buddy. 😊
I found a 5-week tuxedo kitten in the middle of the road out in the country who had a horrible URI. eyes completely glued shut from all the gunk. took him to vet and they cleaned him and turned out his eyes never fully developed since he either had nutritional deficiencies or was getting recurring URI. He was all skin and bones and small. was really sad, but he made it! We kept him and got enucleation surgery when he was around 8 months old. He's all good and healthy now and such a sweetheart. Also a good sleeping buddy! :D Edit: He's also missing all his bottom incisors and one molar. Which is why the vet thinks he might have had some major nutritional deficiencies since his eyes never fully developed and some of his teeth never came in.
If they take your idea, the name would probably be its Japanese translation..... Which is only a negligible tweak to "Moka" or "Rate". Them Asians and their L-R confusions.
In addition to Kitten Lady, look for Tiny Kittens, they work with feral colonies in British Columbia, Canada. They have several very good trappers, and are willing to help out with information and ideas on trapping and patience.
Haku is so trusting and cute. I love seeing these things where some rescuer wants to rescue a poor stray suffering hardship then you see their spoiled pet who thinks thinks what they are doing is just fun. My favorite is still the Cole and Marmalade where Chris demonstrated a trap and Marmalade walked into it and didn't care he triggered it.
Hey! So we adopted a cat from a shelter with the same condition, and we were told by our first wet that she didn't need any further treatment. But the eye kept oozing, so we took her to see a specialist, who then informed us that it could develop to a very aggressive form of cancer... So we decided to have her eye removed permanently! I have to idea what her case is, but I would definitely recommend taking her to a specialist, as it gave us a lot of peace and mind knowing everything that we could about her condition 😺❤️
When a cat is trap smart, you should try tying up food in one of the upper corners in the back. Like bacon. They look at the food and not the trip plate and then can make a mistake moving. This sometimes works. Also, tying open the door so that it cannot close and then using the trap as a feeding station can lull the defenses. After a couple of weeks of using it as a feeding station, you can then set it. BTW, traps should never be left unattended if you do not know the area and are not in a secure place sheltered from the environment. (SOMEtimes, depending on your knowledge of the area, the agreement of property owners, and the presence of a secure locked fence, you can set a trap sheltered from the sun and the rain, and ants etc. for a few hours or overnight with frequent checks.) Remember: Cats have been attacked while in traps by dogs. Never, never, never just set a trap and leave. Frankly, correct trap usage usually means never letting a trap out of eyesight or out of hearing range, but, few people seem able to follow strict trap protocols. Sometimes people steal traps for nefarious purposes. Non-spring-loaded traps are preferred and generally safer.
You can tell by her behaviour that she is not feral and there is a high chance that she had an owner at some point. Cats are very scent orientated so she will get more comfortable as her environment starts to smell like her as she rubs up and sleeps on things. I did wonder if she had been a TNR because her left ear looks like it could have been tipped (which is what they do to mark a cat that has been TNR) but that would be something the vet would determine by if she has or has not been fixed. For people who may not know, feral is the opposite of tame and stray simply means a homeless cat. Stray feral and stray tames are both possible as are housed ferals and housed tames. What my cat rescue does with feral cats that cannot be tamed (adults are less likely to be successfully tamed but not impossible) is we find them homes as barn cats. Other rescues will simply TNR which is Trap, Neuter, Return. If one is doing TNR and releasing a feral outdoors, you need to release them in the area they were trapped as that is their familiar territory and releasing them elsewhere can be a death sentence. If they are brought to a farm to be a mouser, they need to be in a contained space on the property for at least a month or two so they can adjust to their new territory and not leave the property when they are released. Housing a feral can be a complicated process as some ferals will become so distressed at being contained that they will act in ways that could put their life at risk which is why it should be done with caution. As I said in the beginning though, this cat is not likely a feral and shows signs of having had owners before.
I really appreciate the work you do! Thank you for helping out cats in need❤️ I really appreciate that you mentioned how housing ferals is possible. Cats need to be indoors or supervised when outdoors. I know feral cat can become extremely stressed indoors, however, it really isn’t okay to let them back outdoors. It’s really bad for the wildlife and the cat. Cats have been so domesticated that they aren’t considered to be a native species anywhere anymore. Most wildlife isn’t equipped to deal with cats and the ones that kind of are, are predators. Releasing feral cats and letting cats outdoors is an incredible risk to their health (the average lifespan of an outdoor cat I believe is 2-5 years, last time I checked but I’ll have to check again) and to the survival of other creatures and the health of people. Things like FIP or FIV worms or fleas are just some of the issues that cats face outdoors and there are parasites like toxoplasma gondii which completes its life cycle in cats. Toxoplasma gondii affects other animals and humans, it can cause some really bad birth defects as well. It is possible for many feral cats to be acclimated indoors but it takes time, patience, and effort. A lot of the time they don’t act like typical house cats because that’s not what they’ve been exposed to but it is possible.
My second cat was hiding in a car engine :( the owner was literally angry about it he didnt care about his life.. We tried everything for 2 hours and now he is the perfect lil brother for my first kitty. I remembered all that anxiety about capturing these lovely babies😁
Some of my favorite names from the comments: Wakō - literally "Japanese pirate" or "dwarf pirate" Mayari, the one eyed goddess of the moon Rini (little bunny) Toast

@@ClaraFall the problem is that feral cats have decimated native fauna populations like birds and small animals. Plus the feral population can grow so fast that it can turn into an issue with people and unfortunately some people would rather kill the cats than relocate. Plus finding a safe area can be difficult in certain areas and homing a feral can be extremely difficult and stressful for both human and feline

His name is Yu and he is such a wholesome little guy, even though he loves getting into trouble :) I hope we get to spend many many years together!

the fact that she wasn't hissing and spitting, nor acting super-terrified, is a good sign she's not super feral.

Bro I hate your username but also like GG because I thought I just recommended a cat name on an 8yr old video 😂

The word Wakō - literally "Japanese pirate" or "dwarf pirate" - refers to historical pirates of varying origins (although most were predominantly from Japan) who raided the shores of China, Korea and Japan from the 13th to 16 centuries.
It also follows the two syllable pattern of the other cat's names as a bonus.

Rescue cat are the best cat, they seem to know we saved them.
Thank you for rescuing him!! Adopt/Rescue Don't shop. I'm suprised he doesn't want to go back outside, the cats I've had that used to live outdoors wanted to go out all the time, they couldn't resist the chance to go hunting again.
that's so sweet

oh my god, you're an absolute hero

I found a 5-week tuxedo kitten in the middle of the road out in the country who had a horrible URI. eyes completely glued shut from all the gunk. took him to vet and they cleaned him and turned out his eyes never fully developed since he either had nutritional deficiencies or was getting recurring URI. He was all skin and bones and small. was really sad, but he made it! We kept him and got enucleation surgery when he was around 8 months old. He's all good and healthy now and such a sweetheart. Also a good sleeping buddy! :D
Edit: He's also missing all his bottom incisors and one molar. Which is why the vet thinks he might have had some major nutritional deficiencies since his eyes never fully developed and some of his teeth never came in.

Ooh thank you for the info, I never considered most of these ideas
@@sierrawoods No worries! Good luck!
Put a stick through the trap before the trigger pedal. This can help force the cat to step over the stick to trigger the trap.

Yes. Just yes.
“I really hope we can find her a good owner” yes you did indeed
My second cat was hiding in a car engine :( the owner was literally angry about it he didnt care about his life.. We tried everything for 2 hours and now he is the perfect lil brother for my first kitty. I remembered all that anxiety about capturing these lovely babies😁
Some of my favorite names from the comments:
Wakō - literally "Japanese pirate" or "dwarf pirate"
Mayari, the one eyed goddess of the moon
Rini (little bunny)
Toast

Toast!!!
I like Toast and Mayari
I'm so happy that you got her! Hopefully she's not too feral and she'll find a happy and loving home
I know you don't mean it the wrong way but for cats to be feral isn't too bad 😇 it's ok for them and they are happy ,too 😇 I recommend watching the latest video from the kitten lady from the orphan kitten club she explains it very well 😇 best wishes and stay healthy 😇
@@HaruDoneYet yes that's true and therefore really important to spay and neuter them or get rid of this problem... I don't know the situation in Japan tho... I only know the situation in America trough the videos of Kitten lady 😇
@@ClaraFall It's more difficult to rehome a cat who is distrustful or in some cases aggressive towards humans. It isn't good for a cat you're trying to adopt out to be feral.
Rachel: "Hey cat, do you like food?"
Cat: "Yes."
Rachel: 😍
Seriously though, good job!
This video isn’t about him, but does Poki ever get full
Probably not
Asking the real questions here, we need to know! 😂
@Lord of the memes98poki may be a flarken?
His stomcach is a black hole
If given the chance he will eat until he throws up, so I think no lol
Rachel, I’m going to ask my sister in Japan if she wants to adopt this beautiful cat. If she says yes I want to be there but sadly I can’t because of COVID
I really didn’t expect people to like this ;-;
Teko Pic of course we would
Sierra Woods oh! Well thank you very much I appreciate all you liking this post! I’m quite surprised at this! Hope all of you are guided through quarantine!
My cat lived in the dumpster in my street, I tried to get him to my home several times, he would run away all the time, until one day he showed up with his leg double the size and with a hole in it. I took him to the vet and now has been a year since I took care of him and he never ever leaves the house and is as big as a dog, he is super fluffy like Haku, but he has gray fur. His name is Beni and I have 2 other cats.
Omg the way he showed up to your house when he needed help makes my heart melt. He knew you wanted to help him and that he’d be safe with you :’)
@@blazereho811 Yes, he was hurt, but still let me grab him and see his leg, he was really trusting with me.❤
I love how your cat is being super helpful, “No, put the string over here! Where I can get it!”
