- Yes another 1,000 miles driven in the Palisade, means it's time for another oil level consumption check. The saga is getting weird now.. and possibly a waste of time?

The problem is due to the strict emissions standards low tension piston rings are used to reduce friction and increase MPG's. During engine break in the rings may not get seated properly allowing oil to get past the rings. I was losing about 1qt every 5000 miles on my brand new Palisade.. At 10k miles my oil consumption stopped. Every 5k miles my dipstick is now exactly on the "F" mark. No more oil loss.
I wish that were the case for us, however its still showing the problem at 60 miles.
@@davidg11134I have not had the PCV valve changed?
Thank you for this. Our new Palisade was a quart low when they delivered it. The service manager argued with me, and denied it was a quart low. I added a quart. Now at 1,000 miles, it’s a quart low. I can imagine what a headache this is going to be. My ‘07 Azera has 125K miles on it and has not burned a drop of oil.
Glad you caught it early! Keep on them, its partially the dealer being unwilling but its likely on corporate not allowing them to acknowledge it.
Keep the reports coming. I will give you all the information on my transmission seepage problem.
Thanks, will do! and look forward to learning more about any transmission related issues.
Wow!!!! I have the same issue. My wife took her car to the hyandai dealership for an oil change and it's free but there's no such thing these days. There's a price to pay for everything and it's a business at the end of the day. I'm saying it's hard to find honest people and money can change hearts unfortunately. Is there anyone has a problem with your gear when it switches gear while driving?
i used 10w40 oil and oil consumption slowed down a lot and now im using 20w50 conventional oil and oil burning stopped for the last 3k miles. this engines seems to like heavier weigh oil
Good to know.
Found this playlist while researching about my girlfriend’s 2020 Palisade. She started the oil consumption test process at about 80k. The last result at 93-94k was 3qt in 1000 miles. Hyundai tried everything (UV due to check for external leaks, combustion chamber cleaning, replaced oil pan and filter mount gasket). It took 13 oil consumption checks, but it’s at the dealer now getting a new engine installed under warranty.
Wow I'm glad to hear a dealer actually took the problem seriously! Let me know how the replacement goes. I'm curious.
New engine is in, we had the car one day, noticed a coolant smell after driving it home. I added about 1/3 gallon of coolant and It’s back at the dealer to get that checked. Overall the experience was decent so far.
@@andyffox1977Glad you got it back. Hope the coolant issue is a not a big one. Thanks for keeping me updated on it.
1K every 1000 miles for oil consumption may seem normal to them but not to everyone else. I know I do not in any vehicle.
Agreed! It's definitely not normal.
My 2008 Trailblazer with 50k mile 5.3 LS used a quart every 1,000. Wifes 2018 Mitsubishi with VSD transmission failed at 30k, her Cruze before that randomly lost 1 gallon of coolant. You would know when the heat didnt work. Her 2020 Pallisaide goes thru 3 qts oil between changes. Has 37k miles. New vehicles have been garbage for decades. All brands.
Very true, seems only some German options are okay.. for the most part.
I have this exact issue with mine and I'm at 70k. Just randomly checked my wife's car and NO oil showed on the dipstick but NO light on the dash either. PISSED ME OFF! Seen too many of these videos and I'd be screwed as I do my own oil changes. now I'm checking it every 3 weeks and have a reminder on my phone so as not to blow my wife's motor. and my $50k investment.
Same here! I had to set a notification to stay on top of it.
I have a 2020 palisade just under 60k. And have this same issue. Only thought to check the oil because my husband found your videos. My palisade is burning about 6qts in 3k miles, so I'm not making it from oil change interval to the next. Called Hyundai, they opened and escalated a case. And admitted that nearly every other call is about this issue. Hopefully will have resolution soon. In the meantime, driving with a funnel and quart of oil.
It's sad that Hyundai is acting like this isn't an issue. I hope they change their tone soon.
@CoderMan They asked when opening my case what resolution I wanted. At very least we need go know when the oil is low.. 2nd my engine has grinded metal on metal a handful of times this last year because of this issue so check and fix whatever issues. And replace the motor.. we shall see what happens.
Same happened to ours. It was metal on metal at least a few times. Going for our next check this week, hoping this saga is over soon!
Ok. Great video. I just bought a 2021 Palisade se with only 15k miles I love this truck I will definitely check it every 1k miles no big deal. If it needs oil I will just add it.
Right on! Overall the vehicle is good, adding oil is annoying but not impossible to keep on.
Any more updates on your oil consumption issue? Went in today for my oil change and to start the clock for the consumption test. Never guess what my dealership did?! Overfilled the oil. Normally 6.9qts (round to 7). Today I got charged for 8! So no matter if i burn 1 qt or 2, its still going to reflect 1qt or roughly thereabouts. You were 100% accurate to title this video "dont waste your time" cause thats all this is turning out to be. Maybe try my state attorney general....
That's terrible! I just got our 3rd test done and will be posting a video this week.
Same issue bro with our 2020. Not normal. 5 year 100,000 warranty on powertrain. Our dealer is telling us the oil pan is leaking and trying to charge $481 for the repair.
I would get a second opinion, i've seen zero spotting on our driveway.
A relatives 2020 palisade has 65k miles and the dealer says it's normal. By comparison I have a 08 Ranger with 140k that doesn't use a drop between oil changes.
Far from normal! These dealers are insane.
Lawsuit waiting to happen. Just like Audi and their A4 oil consumption lawsuit.
Yup. Sounds like it!
already happened. google "Hyundai and Kia Oil Consumption Class Action Settled". lawyers got big bucks, car owners keep topping off every week...
No vehicle should do that, that's the oil consumption issue
Exactly. Now if only Hyundai would get it.
I haven't taken my palisade, but i started to here a slight rattle, so I checked my oil dip stick and it was dry. I'm only 3500 miles into this oil. My palisade has 97k, mind you no lights of any kind came on, in my dashboard. Smh
that is probably the quickest i've seen!
My wife's 2020 just started this today, well got noticed today. Because it was bone dry. Had to have it picked up from the side of the road and it's actually still on the trailer. It's not looking good with anything I've read from everyone! Any updates on the lawsuit..?
I think it was dismissed
Seems to have been dismissed but word another might occur. As more people are exhibiting the issue.
I have a 2020 palisade and I change my oil every 5000 miles last oil checks I charge it at 5400 miles and my oil tank was dry, dry , dry !
This is the first time since I purchase my car that I did an oil change not inside the dealer and this people show me and told me about the issue the total miles I got is 61400 miles! That’s it now it makes me think the oldest time when I do the oil change at the dealership they didn’t even say nothing to me what this was happening I wonder how long this issues been going on
Thats probably true, heard from many that dealerships aren't being honest...
I bought a 2021 Palisade in September of 2020. The car today has 50,000 miles. The dealership told me I had to bring in the car every 3,500 miles for an oil change, which I have done. I'm guessing I wouldn't know I was burning "too much" oil because of how often I get the oil changed. Recently, Bluelink notified me that based on my driving habits I don't need an oil change until 7,500 miles. Based on what you're saying I won't have any oil in the car. Yikes! How did you figure out you were burning so much oil?
The engine will attempt to shut off. Thats really the only way you'll know there is a possible problem.
Personally ive experienced this same problem out of a 12 sorento we had with a 2.4 with engine replacement at 68000 miles we bought a palisade in 20 and knock on wood with 30 thousand on it i haven't encounter this yet but since new ive kept oil changes to 5000 miles and added a catch can i dont think these gdi engines can servive 7500mile oil changes and as a public service announcement change the transmission fluid beween 30 to 50 thousand but im doing it at 30 they tell you its good for the life of the car but thats not long because these transmissions as i found out they dont have a serviceable filter it has one in it but you have to drop the transmission to get to it lol so there's that
Modern cars are impossible to work on, for so many reasons. Its like engineers sit around attempting to make things harder for no good reason.
This is concerning! I have a palisade 2021 and i do the oil changes my self at 3500 every time, add 6 qrts of oil everytime and when its time to do oil change again i only get about 4.5 qrts of it. It started to worrying me since the car its about 30k miles and it is defenetly not normal for a car with this low mileage. I really dont know what to do here. Should we a lawyer or something to sue Hyundai.
At this point just contact Hyundai, its possible they can help. The dealers seem reluctant.
just got a new to me palisade - took in for first service earlier than 6000 miles - i was 3qts low at oil change ! - my biggest concern is y arent lights lit up on the dash that the oil is low or something telling us to add oil to add to this its only got 38000 miles on it
Allegedly the Palisade doesn't have a low oil light, only low oil pressure.
@@CoderMan interesting but didnt tell me low pressure either lol thanks hyundai🙄so i’d assume almost no oil shouldve set off a lower pressure number or light lol .. imo they dropped the ball and missed some bugs in the ecm / computer cause its 1 of 2 things bad calibration of computer or my new car has brain damage lol and theres clearly oil consumption abnormalities in many of these
Dang man!
Yup. No fun.
Get everything in writing!!!!
Hard to do when the dealer refuses to provide it. Which is cause enough for concern.
@@CoderMan I had similar problems with GMC, drive train issues..finally used email with GMC customers service...
@@Allegan49010Thats smart!
Has anyone tried to lemon law? I am dealing with this issue now and only have 30k miles.
Not personally but if you purchased preowned your state might have protections. It's worth a call to find out.
Don't Waste Your Time? You mean don't buy this model. After watching this 1 qt every 1000 is not normal. I change my oil on my 2009 grand caravan every 5000 miles and I am down 1/2 quart of oil.
Basically. I wouldn't waste my time on this oil interval process or the brand overall.
Hyundai just told me that the loss 1quart of oil per 1k is normal. I'm 50 years old and have a bunch of cars.
I've never heard of this. So services are every 7k miles. That means by the time I get the next service done I would be complicit of oil!! People thinking of buying Hyundai please do your homework.
Agreed!
