Yes I'm having the same problem. Blew a valve cover gasket within the first week of getting it from dealer. Started out with 76,000 miles in the odometer. Added 4 quarts and drove it back to the dealer. They fixed the problem. I checked the oil level when I picked it up and when I got home just to make sure. Level was fine. 3 weeks to a month later I added 5 quarts because I was also going through the vehicle feeling like it wanted to stall and not wanting to auto- shut off. Not sure where the oil is going but I have no leaks. I think we need to file a lawsuit against hyundai because from what I've read this is a major issue with these vehicles. Spent $60 extra on this for oil and I'm now due for an oil change.
Crazy! There was/is a lawsuit but I can't get any updates on that.
I would always recommend for any modern car to 1/2 all of the intervals for preventative maintenance. The dealerships only care that the car makes it past the warranty period (all makes all models). I have a 2020 Santa Fe with the slightest oil consumption issue. 143k still averaging 26.7mpg mixed driving. Tires/brakes and scheduled maintenence
Very good point. My old M3 had a 15,000 mile oil interval. Of course I did it every 3 to 5000 miles but you know how many people out there just following the manufacturer recommendation.
The dipstick doesn't go to the bottom of the drain pan. No reading doesn't necessarily mean no oil.
I agree, I am more focused on the limited amount of oil and the other symptoms presented.
We bought ours year ago, model year 2021. Now it has 39k miles, we do some long road trips and we pull the 3000lbs RV trailer and it does not eat any oil so far. Hope it will stay like that.
Purchased a used 2018 Kia Sportage LX AWD with 29,000 miles. When I took it to my mechanic for it's first oil change he praised the car but warned me to keep an eye on the oil level for Hyundai's and Kia GDI engines burn oil. Currently at 78,000 miles, use full synthetic and go though 1.5 to 2 quarts of oil in a 5000 mile interval.
Thanks for sharing, that is scary fast for burn. We are seeing about 1/2 qt per 1k.
This seems like a serious design flaw. Mine too. What is causing your issue? Ever get it fixed? I use full synthetic usually too... My Palisade is at dealership and there's no ETA to fix...
Hyundai is saying 1qt per 1k miles is all normal. @@CoderMan
Which is so far from normal. It's crazy.
All of these problems started when Hyundai switched from EFI (electronic fuel injection) to GDI (gasoline direct injection) on their engines to improve fuel economy very slightly. I have a 2009 Hyundai Genesis V6 with EFI and it has never used a drop of oil the entire 15 years I have owned it. Dipstick always shows the exact same level as right after an oil change. I use Mobil 1 EP 5W-30. If my engine was using an excess amount of oil, I would switch to a High Mileage Full Synthetic 5W-30. If that didn't work, I would switch to High Mileage Full Synthetic 10W-40 (or 0W-40).
They recommend 5W-30. We use full synthetic because of using it in my high performance cars. Better results but still burns off.
@@CoderManIf an engine is using excess oil I would try 10W-40 or 0W-40, possibly a High Mileage version of Motor Oil.
Ive been alil paranoid about this. I let it go for 4k miles in my 2020 palisade and it burned 2qts of valvoline. Didnt have that issue with motor crafts. Changed it with quaker state and no issues in 1200 miles. Going to change it a 3k and if it burns oil take to dealership for consumption test. Currently mine has 64k miles but i have 8 year financing and 7 years left...
Interesting, the oil changes resulted in that much difference. Just posted an update.
Wifes 2020 Pallisaide bought new and all oil changes at dealership since new. Just had 3 quarts low at 36,000 miles. Or 1,500 before the next oil change.
Burning oil for sure, sadly.
What kind of oil are you using?
I'm using 5w30 full synthetic.
We use 5w30 as well.
I’m going through this exact same thing! Bought new from dealership.
Lots of rattling under the car. Brought to dealership and they said oil was almost empty. No warning lights.
Had oil change done. Fast forward and I’m coming due for regular oil change as per dealership. Palisade started making the noise again today. Stopped, checked and again, no oil left. How is a 2020 burning through oil this fast?! I’ve had nothing but issues with it. Transmission replaced at 70,000km (43,500 miles).
4 or 5 ignition coils replaced since I bought it. Car would stall in heave rain.
Alternator replaced at about 85000 km (53000 miles).
Shocks are gone and being replaced later this week.
That is a ton of misfortune for one vehicle! I hope Hyundai is listening and will make changes
I'm changing my alternator now at 115k and I have the same oil issue. I keep a 5qt with me in the car at all times because it burns through so much oil. I like the car but it's got sooo many issues
Just stumbled on to your video. Was having stuttering with auto start/stop. Metal rattle sound and.... I have the exact same oil issue with my 2020!!!! NO FREAKING OIL?!?!?
Sadly it's fairly common :(
I have 40,000 on my 2021 Palisade. No oil problems at all. I originally was in the promotion for free oil changes for the first three years...each at 7500 miles...which is a stretch in my opinion. I now do oil changes every 5000 along with tire rotation. 7500 is too long for tire rotation anyway!
Smart to do them at 5K miles!
Have the exact same problem with my 2020 Palisade! Running the entire oil capacity out in under 5K. The Hyundai dealership claims "nobody else has ever had this problem - blamed our "driving style" for excessive oil use! Anyone have an resolve on this - hating this SUV
This seems like a serious design flaw. Mine too. What is causing your issue? Ever get it fixed?
Design flaw that dealerships are ignoring. Push for resolution or go to a new dealer.
Oil consumption can be caused by so many things.. it needs to be checked out.
@@CoderMan agreed - Hatchett Hyundai East in Wichita KS told me they went ahead and did an oil change - before the tech looked at it to mark or prep for a consumption monitoring test of some sort - so they have no answers for why or where it is burning oil. Then they said the check engine light was related to a transmission error - but instead of testing the transmission all they did was clear the code and it came right back. Their recommendation - flush the transmission fluid and wait to see if there is another error... sorta sounds like they are throwing darts with blindfolds on instead of following manufacturer recommended procedures. I asked what the mfgr interval is for transmission fluid and they said 100k miles but they like to do them at 60k miles. I have 78k miles now. @hyundai does not seem to care anymore. I was the BIGGEST proponent of the Palisade for the last 4 years - sent DOZENS of people to go buy one - and they did - and I get treated like a red-headed step child every time I go in for service.
@@zippytechnologies I would look for another service shop, I agree with you, seems they are just randomly diagnosing things.
Any updates. Currently experiencing same issue
Will be making an update soon, its a delayed process but i'll explain.
This exact same thing is happening to us in our 2020 Hyundai palisade. Our first oil change it was dead empty. Before our second oil change I started hearing metal on metal and took it in. We're busy with kids and work and it was just put on the back burner. I found it empty again.
Let me know how it went with your dealership.
Thanks for sharing.
Sorry to hear it's not isolated to a few. Currently sitting at the dealer will update what they plan to do.
My dealership in Wichita ks used to give loaners while cars we bought new from them were in the shop... They won't even ask if we need a loaner now and never have one anyhow... Now, they rarely answer the phone... Something is going on with Hyundai and their dealerships... Long long long delays for service and parts prices are astronomical lately... I need my car for work. My wife needs her car for work and kids. I'm using my ancient Mazda 07 CX-7 I never thought I'd be driving again but kept it just in case we had another car die on us for a backup since it was cheap to insure and just park in the driveway (paid off cars are hard to just get rid of sometimes, glad I didn't) ... It's got issues too, but it still drives unlike my Palisade. Crossing my fingers it stays alive long enough to get Palisade returned to me... Dealership wants me to pay $200 to diagnose the trouble since I've got 78k miles on it... I thought it was covered for 100k since I'm there original owner... Pretty upset with this car and local dealer but whatever, just figure out why it's burning oil and if it's a manufacturer defect, which it certainly sounds like from all the other similar complaints I'm hearing, then I expect Hyundai to do the right thing and warranty it and repair these cars. I've been promoting Palisade to everyone for almost 4 years now with positivity. It's a great car otherwise. Just started having engine issues around 50-60k miles that get worse over time. Only other major complaint I have is the 2020 USB power ports in car, while very conveniently placed, only pump out 1 amp and that's not enough to charge most modern phones unless they're turned off and slowly charging... My phone actually drains slowly on long car rides we take to Colorado so I have to bring an inverter with me to plug into the round dc port to use my inverter for laptop charging 120V.. it has a set of USB charge ports too and cranks out 3 amp availability so it keeps my devices charged just fine... Basically saying the cars USB ports and inverter built in are under powered and worthless... If I could find a wiring diagram I'd just replace the electronics with my own to power the ports in the car... But otherwise, very nice car... I have limited 2020 with Napa leather, tow package and just about every feature before they came out with the calligraphy version... Love the comfort... Hate it won't charge my phones and that it's burning oil.
@@zippytechnologiesmaybe try using Amsoil oil to help with burnin' oil
I must be a lucky boy. Got 2015 v6 santa fe with 148 k km and no issues
Had awd coupler replaced under warranty and rear wiper motor for which i had to pay.
Rare, but awesome!
You never trust the oil light it actually still amazes me that this is the first time people have experienced something like this.
hard to trust in something that doesn't even exist...
Please let us know when you get an update. We have the same problem with only 14000 miles
Update posted. 14k miles is too low for this. Wow.
This seems like a serious design flaw. Mine too. What is causing your issue? Ever get it fixed?
Did we all start having the same problem within months of each other?
Im having this issue. What can we do ?
Currently in the process of finding out. First step if its under warranty is to go to the dealership for further info. Ask for the oil consumption evaluation. If they don't know about it, go to a new dealer.
I ended up trading it in for a grand highlander.
Crazy!! I was thinking of getting a 2024 Hyundai Palisade. Does anyone know if oil consumption is still a problem on the new cars????
Allegedly it is not a problem for 23+ however they may be too knew to exhibit the issue.
I'm having the same issue right now. This is ridiculous but I'm also getting the shifter system malfunctioning service immediately. I've gotten that 3 times now before the 60k. Now I'm over the 60k.
I got that malfunction once before. I also get "driving aides cannot be enabled" on some trips.
That’s crazy that burn that much oil holy crap!
Yup! I couldn't believe. The 1950 truck burns less oil 😂 it leaks it but that's a separate issue.
@@CoderMan especially with only 60K lol
I once changed the oil on my wife’s 2020 and a week later I checked the oil level before a trip and it showed bone dry, I thought to myself well that just can’t be since I changed it a week prior. I stopped at the store and bought a couple of quartz and through them in…pulled the dipstick and nothing. I still drove it and everything went fine. Did another oil change and drained about 5 1/2 quartz. I’m guessing the dip stick isn’t reaching oil pan for whatever reason
Looks to me like the diptstick would be dry if down 1-2 quarts. The dipstick doesn't go anywhere near the bottom of the drain pan.
It should get close, but won't touch the pan for obvious reasons.
My 23 has 13k miles and I change my oil at 3,500 miles for this suv but the dealership I got it from has lifetime warranty and it’s the only dealership in the city that offers it so that’s why I got it from there. I hope this doesn’t happen to mine but I’m very meticulous on Maintenance. I hope you post what the finding is but I’m guessing it’s going to be piston rings.
That's cool that they give you a lifetime warranty
@@CoderMan yeah luckily but I still have my mechanical break down with the insurance which oddly enough our equinox which we bought new needed a new compressor shortly after the 3 year warranty expired so I used my insurance and they paid it
Brother I'm having the same issue with our 2021 palisade We purchased it brand new from country Hyundai and we only have 46,000 mi on it I noticed a noise sounded like very noise and we had no oil they are going to the process as we speak for the oil consumption test which I think is a bunch of BS what was the issue?
No diagnosis, told its normal... which of course is a blatant lie.. trying to plan our next steps.
Same problem with my 2021 palisade 50k miles started noticing at 35k miles
No engine light just knew because of the fact that it started running real rough .
Stopped and it was completely dry.
Hyundai still holding mine because they can’t find issue.
I have my lawyers ready. I’m here in Cali
My car is having the same problem at 93k miles do you think I would need a new engine ?
I can't say 100% but definitely get it looked at.
@@CoderMan should I just ask the dealership to check the engine out to make sure everything is fine ?
@@jaycee-23 I'm not sure what level of checking they'll do, but definitely express some concern.
By the way this is true by the time you hit 7,000 miles you will have very little oil if any, my wife’s palisade does the same thing do your oil changes every 3,000 miles or sooner sheesh . One more thing well a couple, Hyundai recommends Quaker oil and you should check your oil level when the car is a normal running temperature so turn it on until it comes to normal running temp then turn it off let it sit for 5 minutes then check it on level ground.
I usually check it after a drive, like other cars.
They recommend Quaker State in the USA owners manual because Hyundai has a worldwide factory fill and marketing agreement with Shell. Shell owns Quaker State and Pennzoil. The recommendation is really just a paid advertisement.
We just had that happen to our 2021 palisade at 12 midnight!! 0:15
That's too bad!
I just encountered the exact same issue. I run full synthetic and hadn't checked the oil since the last oil change at the dealer about 10k miles ago. I know, shame on me. I should check it more frequently. At any rate, the dip stick was bone dry. I had to add 5 quarts to get it back up to the full line. WTF! How does a newer car burn so much oil? I'm thinking of dumping it for something else.
I am with you on why this is a thing... and replacing it. Such a crazy situation.
I was hoping to not find anyone having this issue but it occurred to me as well in March. Took it to my mechanic who 1 month earlier had done the oil change. I thought it was me bc a few times I was at 6k miles. I'm taking it in tomorrow after driving it about 1100 miles....let's see how it plays out. I've read and read and read multiple threads and it seems to he a major issue.
Wondering how things played out with your situation since your months ahead of starting the process.
I had the same concern as I noticed more people such as yourself commenting. Sadly it is fairly common in these models, and years. I am going to be providing an update soon that involves starting the test over again because of corp just ignoring it.
Same issue ..vehicle is just under 18k ..completely dry in 1500 Miles..no signs instrument cluster..noticed only I had strange metal crashing sound from engine 😢
under 18K thats too bad... hope it gets sorted fast.
Same exact issues. Noticed oil burning off around 50k miles on my 2020 limited... I have 77800 now and it went near bone dry while doing a lot of driving in City with start stop going pretty regularly... Started hesitating on stop to idle like it was going to do the auto stop engine then restart but it kept going and eventually another out again... It finally threw a check engine code but dealership says it's for transmission and that they are aware it's burning oil but not sure why... Major recall? Who else is seeing this?
Definitely needs a recall from just people commenting on this post... its bad. We also saw the problem with auto start/stop in fact that was the first symptom we saw.
@@CoderMan but no one can seem to pinpoint the cause. Dealership refuses to start warranty work process until they know for sure their work will be covered... I had purchased an extended coverage in addition to manufacturer warranty when I bought this car new - its expired now I think and the dealership service department is just not communicating well at all nor willing to spend the time needed to really diagnose the true cause of any issue.
My car started doing the same thing
@@jaycee-23 sadly it seems more common than originally thought.
My wife's palisade started doing the same thing today! Help
Currently at the dealership with this same issue. Hyundai has to do something about this.
Agreed! They really do.
Having the same issue with 2020 palisade 89k miles. Took a road trip last month for TG I checked the oil before leaving (I was under the mileage for next oil change also). Dipstick was dry. It took 4 qts to get oil in the normal range. Now 1 month later I’m hearing what sounds like valve clicking on start offs from red lights. I check the oil it’s bone dry again. No apparent oil leaks. Frustrating
Sorry to hear that, that was our exact symptoms.
@@CoderMan did you ever get resolution or answers on your issue?
@@Kevinw4040No resolution yet..
I have Palisade 2021 limited. Same problem no oil warning light notification.
I added 2 quarts of oil
Happened to me today, no oil at all. My miles is just 51k. Was wondering why my car was stalling and seems like it doesnt want to move.
Yah, it's scary the first time it happens...
We have a Palisade now, prior we had a 2008 Veracruz which had 3 government recalls for oil leaking onto the alternator. From what I've read in the forums people mentioned the same symptoms you did, in regards to the veracruz, and the recall was due to the possibility it could stall while driving. Anyway you seem pretty mechanical as I watched your brake video first so I'm guessing you already made sure it isn't leaking somewhere as opposed to burning the oil. Regardless maybe you can file a complaint with the consumer protection agency. There is no reason a 50k car should need oil every thousand miles.
Also should mention our Veracruz had the leak and we never had oil on the concrete below it. Not sure how.
Thanks, i'll look into that. I am okay with a wrench, but will definitely look for any leaks.
In Canada, its only 5 years warranty. Palisade, Atlas, MDX has good enough reasons to avoid. Perhaps Highlander is the best out there, second would be a Pilot or CX-90.
Toyota always seems to be in the top of its class.
dont want that cx90 long term that inline 6 will need to be removed to do major work like the timing chain
How can you say mdx is not good but recommend the pilot
My girlfriend just started having this issue. 2020 Palisade. It would shake like it wanted to stall at a stop. Then we heard a ton of rattling while driving. On way to dealership, the car stalled. She made it in but now they are giving her the runaround of coming back every 1000 miles. Its ludicrous.
Same exact symptoms for us. The vehicle wants to stall, but can't because its technically still running.
My 2020 Hyundai Tucson is doing the same thing and if you Google the issues I believe there is a class action lawsuit where Hyundai will be forced to replace these engines. This will be the second car I've owned by Hyundai that had to have an engine replacement
I've been following the lawsuit, they can't ignore this forever.
Not showing on dipstick doesnt mean totally out. Think about the fill marks meaning add a quart
I imagine it had some oil left but well under the operating range. Especially if the dipstick is dry on the first pull (accounting for splashing).
I was going to buy a Pallisade.......I hear a lot of this excessive oil consumption and this is simply not exceptable. I have an old 2009 Grand Caravan.....200,000 miles and in 5000 miles I barely burn 1/2 quart. Not bad for a 15 yr old car.
Not bad at all, those older vehicles run better in many ways.
Had a 2020 Palisade Limited. At 15-17K miles it started using oil to the tune of (1) quart every 1700 miles. Called Hyundai and they told me using (1) quart of oil every ONE thousand miles was normal! What ? Seriously? I went from Toyota to Hyundai because I thought it was a better value. Big mistake !!
17k miles? Insane!
I don’t have that issue in mine
That's good to know! 2020 as well?
He probably will from what I'm hearing from neighbors that also have the same car... My 2020 started having oil use issues song 50k miles.. I didn't think much of it... Wasn't much. Now at 78k it's running through the full pill change before 5k miles.
It’s happening to mine no warning
Thats even worse! Hope you get it fixed.
I’m having the same problem and I’m starting to hate this car
Its too bad, because the rest of the vehicle is great.
It’s something wrong in this video, if oil burns in 5000 miles you can’t see like this clean oil dipstick it’s going to bad black oil on it
This isn't a clean oil dipstick, this is no oil and it burns up in less than 5K miles.
I know you sawing no oil on it
@@CoderMan You don't know if it is "burning" just because it disappears. If it was burning that much, you should be able to smell it in the exhaust. But obviously, the oil is disappearing, even if not technically burning.
Mines doing the same 😭😭😭
Its fairly common :(
If the enginge was bone dry the engine would have seized.
I imagine the engine retains some oil but not going to drive and see for how long.
You should have gone to the resistance garage rather then the imperial garage, can’t trust those empire techs.
Definitely not a fan. Glad they changed hands.
I have 56 thousand km and I need a new engine
Is Hyundai allowing it?
10k oil changes is your problem, 5k oil changes member oil is cheap engines are not
10k? This is way less than 10k oil changes...
@@CoderMan you need to check the oil level often like every 2nd fillup on gas
Even with 100k warranty. Its still a bad engine. 😂
agreed!
@CoderMan every warranty the tech do. It will make the engine worst and worst. Warranty is not a great pay for tech. Tech doesn't care if they miss something. Just let that sink in first. I would just sold the car and let that problem be with the new owner. In reality hyundai and kia are known problems with many things.
Hyundai just told me that the loss 1quart of oil per 1k is normal. I’m 50 years old and have a bunch of cars. I’ve never heard of this. So services are every 7k miles. That means by the time I get the next service done I would be complicit of oil!! People thinking of buying Hyundai please do your homework.
Great point! They didn't think this through well.
