I have the 2021 XCFW 500 and I took it all apart got the parts from Takamoto. He is only into KTM’s. He does a very good job for parts. I put the power commander. I put the euro air filter boot and a slip on from FNF and it works great no problems.
I just picked up a ‘25 500 exc f with 8 hours on it. It was a corporate demo. I’ve ridden it twice as it’s winter here. I popped the air filter out and voila…..no reeds…..wonder if they deflated The ecu as it runs beautifully…..?
@ripnriding1 hopefully they did the bike needs a flash aka tune for the bike or you are spending some cash 💸 💰 2024 bike almost killed me a few times not just jumping it but in traffic!
I went to the dealership in my area and the 2025 still had the reeds in the airbox! The dealership must of flashed the ecu and took them out ! Good luck with the new bike ! Your going to love it .... cost me 2000 bucks to get it to run right...
@@metalmotomayhem well....I got the call. Message was that the reed block must have fallen out during a demo and they were removed, put aside and not put back in....exploring options with the dealer..

From my understanding, the reeds are kind of made to be taken out. These bikes apparently come extremely plugged up in order to be able to pass emissions. A lot of folks actually have a lot trouble trying to remove them. I intend to remove mine as part of the modification process, once I obtain my bike anyway.....
the mirrors i ordered from amazon i don't have the china brand name i got them for a set of zeta hand guards 2 years ago ... sorry ! they suck anyway get a double take mirror they work better .
It sucks because you spend top dollar on a bike and then you have to spend like $1000-$1500 just to make it run correctly because to remove the reeds an ECU and exhaust or something like a Pro Moto billet end cap is needed. But once you get that the bike would run great and have more all around power. I’m about to do the ECU and end cap stuff on my 21’ Husqvarna fe350s which will open the bike way up, but I’ve never had any issues with the reeds on my bike but they will likely fail in the Arizona heat once that glue starts to fail. Still a bike is a bike and they all have little issues here and there if you ride it hard during ownership. Dirt bikes are supposed to be beaten on ride hard and put away wet! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Everyone says this same thing which I understand, but what people don’t get is it’s 2024 and these big name companies are offering a literal street legal dirt bike from factory. Of course it’s gonna be all plugged up and “de-tuned”, because meeting street legal standards today is a whole different ball game. There’s a reason why all the performance upgrades say “off-road only.” Now the reeds falling out is definitely new generation recall flaw.
Pretty darn frustrating after spending an arm and middle leg for the thing. You might want to check Slavens Racing for a solution. At least your air-box was clean. Image if you you were at a muddy event. Good luck.
Usually ktm doesn't drop the ball on those types of engineering flaws. I would just chuck em into the weeds and keep rippin lol. I doubt it would hurt performance. If anything might open it up on the big end a little more having less restriction
The reeds are known to fall apart and get sucked into your engine. Throw that crap away. They don't use them at all in Europe. First things my friend told me to do was take the reeds out. Then I ordered the European rubber boot piece that has a smoother entrance to the carb/injector body.
The new model doesn't run correctly without the reed block and if you don't have a ecu or exhaust . You can't remove the reed block. The bike will barely run and get hot 🔥 really quickly! It's a 2000 dollar fix on a brand new bike! I talked with KTM and they said you can rvt silicone them in and it wouldn't void warranty.
@metalmotomayhem at first no, I left it in. Then about a week later I thought I would take a look at the Reed cage to see for myself how easy (or difficult) removal would be. I removed the air cleaner and the bezel that holds the cage in place was actually inside of the air filter element!! It had popped out on its own! So at this point I decided may as well just remove it. It came out in seconds with pair if needle nose pliers. Really a poor design by KTM, but the bike is everything you would think a modern day performance 500cc should be (and more). It's literally a different bike.
This is what happens when you have a off road bike made barely street legal...i have a 18 and the same week i bought it i drilled my end cap took the reeds out blocked that air injection and put a piggy back fuel comander on mine... yeah it sucked to spend extra money on a brand new bike... but now that ive done it it is now the bike i was expecting from the factory... you wont look back afterwards trust me
Spend the money on a GET ECU, throw the reeds in the trash, and you won't have to complain about them constantly. You'll also make nearly 20 HP more and get all the bike you paid for. There's nothing wrong with your bike or KTM in general, so no need to freak out the guys in your comments by telling them it's a turd. lol
When I spend a lot of money 💰 on a bike and it doesn't run right from the factory or there is a defective part I would hope someone would of told me before I got hurt or killed from a defective product. So the already expensive bike needs 2000 dollars to run correctly 🤔 yeah I shouldn't tell anyone about that .... lol 🤣 hey maybe KTM should pay for my ecu and exhaust, and I'll stop complaining about the new bike .
@@metalmotomayhem blame the government, not KTM. They are the only company offering a street legal 250 lb dirt bike. Also, a piggy back ecu for a couple hundred is all you actually need in order to remove the reeds. Not sure why everyone keeps throwing around the $2000 number. $1200 buys you a GET ECU, end cap, and quickshift/traction control. I guarantee no one would be crying if the bike didn't say "KTM" on the side. Honda 450RL's also need a tune straight from factory or they flame out constantly.
