Why? What is the difference between prepaying money to them for use later when I can just wait till they charge me on the credit card when it ships. Is it when they sometimes offer a discount on buying gift cards? Also I get 5 or more percent off when I use my amazon card on purchases (not gift cards). What am I missing? I have been using amazon japan for 10 years (I have an amiibo/ds/ models and japan video game problem :) ) to the point I got an amazon japan prime account and get points on purchases. I used to have to ship it to a third party shipping company at first, the new system they put in a few years ago is great and it works pretty much like it does in the US (not sure in Canada) so what they have now is much better. The shipping fees I have noticed changed on their own right on shipping day but I would get an email telling me (I thought...could be wrong not sure), she looks at that more than I do. It didn't matter before since it was soooo much cheaper than the third party reshipper. Anyway would like to better understand the gift card thingy.
Really helpful tips especially the Amazon JP ones. Was wondering if you could do an updated figure manufacturer video now that you’ve gotten a lot more figures from different manufacturers and go over the quality and prices. Would be nice to see how your views have changed from the old video :)
Canadians, everything Gwyn said about AmazonJP is correct! I’ve been using it since March of this year. And an added bonus is that sometimes they give you back money if they overcharged you for customs. And it goes back to your credit card, not just as a credit! I’ve had anywhere from 1yen (lol) to 1000yen refunded back to me. It’s nice seeing $10 going back on your card randomly Also they have a points system similar to amiami so you get money back for every purchase you make!
Thaaaaank Youuuu sis! As a fellow collector, your advice is a game changer!!! Especially the hacks abt Amazon JP. I was soo sketchy about amazon websites but this makes me feel so much better! I'm in Aus, and when it comes to shippings costs - sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe sheet.
I've spent so much on shipping because I'm impatient, but within the past month or two, I've relented to using Amiami's surface express. I was surprised when the package arrived in a little over one month. Back at the beginning of the pandemic, I was using surface to ship foreign vinyl records, and it would take about 3 months...
these amiami hacks are SOOO GOOD also I didn't know that amazon japan is so great when it comes to shipping! time to try it out. Thank you so much for this video!
Everytime I've asked AmiAmi about shipping quotes for splitting orders it always ends up being around the same price either way, but I guess I could just be getting unlucky based on the figures I'm ordering. I just combine most things now because shipping always comes out to about what I've estimated anyway. 🤷♀️ The less packages I have going through US customs, the better lol!
OH MY ACTUALY GOD! Did NOT know about the live chat and getting bundles in a smaller box. The amount of times I have had things shipped from Amiami and I look at the space being like, "why is this not in a smaller box?" Is mind blowing!!!! THANK YOU!!! My October haul has legit just hit aaaannndddd... I will use this to help cos my wallet is gonna cry lol AMAZING video
I absolutely love this video as a fairly new collector. Do you have any go-to resources to track down updates on figure announcements (prototypes, preorders starting, etc.) I just feel like there's SO MANY figure companies and characters, it's hard to keep track of all of them.
I liked it! Cuz u got the intro section then the hack section. Thanks gwyn! Found your channel when i was beginning my own figure collection and your channel has been super helpful!
So great to here about Native’s good shipping costs! I’ve yet to purchase from them, but I have a few figures that were announced a bit ago that I have my eye on.
same! I’m really looking forward to the new dmmd Aoba and Koujaku figure 👀 unless it’s already out???? idk, I haven’t been keeping up with it too much lol
Wow this has been very helpful! I started diving into figure collecting mainly Hatsune Miku and I see that Akimomo has a few figures for preorder even though the other sites don’t!
Generally, most shops in Amazon JP don't ship internationally so it's best if you have your address set to a Japan zip code when browsing. (copy the Japanese product name from AmiAmi too for better search results) I have 2 pre-orders for next year (was nervous if they'll charge me immediately but they didn't) and will ship them to my TENSO address first (free shipping) then over to me. If I have the address set to my country, the product won't appear at all (or very limited selection of shops only). I live closer to Japan so the shipping fees aren't as painful even via proxy services.
Well I’m doing it. Ive seen myself live long enough to order my first Binding figure. Bunny girl Rio by Uodenim. Why does no one ever mention CDJapan? They have very good prices and multiple shipping options that are quoted upfront. That said sometimes an adjustment up in shipping is required at shipping time. Usually no more than a couple bucks. They charge preorders 60 days after order placed.
I didn’t see her mention it at all, but for goodsmile international, you should check if Japan post is currently sending packages to your country. For example, I ordered some figures from the store in may of 2022, but they have been stuck in “preparing shipment” because Japan post is currently not sending any parcels to canada.
About amazonjp shipping cost combined in a cart, I realized when I first started using the site, the shipping cost is pretty much reduced by 1900 yen (was 1700 yen when I started off) regardless of in-stock or preorder product. So if I have two figures in checkout, its 1900 yen less than ordering separately, if its three its 3800 yen less. So essentially, each 950 yen less for 2, each 1266 yen less for 3, and so on though when it comes to pay for each figure individually, it isn't split down exactly. I still haven't figured out the logic behind this phenomenon but its really good to hold off impulse po and try to order all at once before po deadlines. As for ordering multiple of a product, it doesn't follow this trend.
I've use Sugo and Akimomo as my alternative when an item is not available in Amiami or if I missed the preorder window. Those two are really good and free shipping coz I'm in Australia. Shipping time form the release date of the figure takes a little longer though since they have to wait for their supplier in japan to send them the figure but I can live with that. I preordered my Nana figures from Akimomo as Amiami is not shipping those items to Australia.
For an American that orders multiple figures per month and don't mind slow surface shipping for low cost, Amiami is plain best except for Native and Aniplex figures. I go to Native and TOM for those cases.
12:38 "Chuck everything in one big box and then surface ship it for like $50" Yeah, I always choose surface if it's the cheapest option. I've been waiting a whole year for it to released, so it's okay to wait another 3 months.
One of the best things to have is a credit card that does not charge foreign exchange fees. One good example is the Amazon Visa card. If you pay in JPY instead of USD, you'll often get a even better price. If you use PayPal, the credit card's own exchange rate is usually better than PayPal's exchange rate.
One additional "hack" for Amazon JP is that you can potentially still cancel pre-orders after their no cancellation date by reaching out to Amazon's customer support. It doesn't work every single time, but more often than not, the customer service rep is able to help me out. In the worse case scenario when the CSR can't help you and you really, really don't want to keep the figure, you can also change the payment method to a prepaid gift card or a prepaid credit card without sufficient funds for the order. Amazon won't be able to process the order and they'll ask you to change the payment method, but if you don't do it within a week then that order gets automatically cancelled. I don't really recommend this method unless it's a last ditch effort since I've heard you can potentially get your account banned especially if it's not in good standing.
I love Amazon Japan. I buy not only figures from Japan, and it's much more cost effective to add a bunch of small light weight items into the order. The shipping won't go up, and you get more items within one order.
I’m wondering if anyone has had trouble getting to a representative on the AmiAmi live chat. I would like to chat with a representative via that, but it ends up just sending an email to them and that’s how we have to communicate. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong or something changed.
What I really like about AmiAmi shipping options is that, while you pick a shipping method when you order, when you get the invoice, you’re still able to select a completely different option. A lot of other Japanese figure sites I e purchased from don’t do this and I really like AmiAmi’s no hassle in changing the method :)
Bruh sweater goes hard where did you get it from?? Also double bruh because I actually never would’ve thought any good could come from pre ordering separately instead of combining automatically! Live chat too! I always just thought of live chat as a support tool but never considered using it for actual questions which is kinda dumb on me tbh lmao. Honestly asking if it’s possible to just fit the items into a smaller box seems like a no brainer and I’m malding that something like that never popped up lol. Dope video Gwyn! Actually sick af how helpful these are thank you! 🔥🔥
Crying in my weak Australian dollar 😭 I have bought the Nana figures coming out next year from akimomo though! They had the cheapest price of any site I could find, taking into consideration what shipping would’ve cost on other sites (+ the $10 first time buying voucher!)
Buyee seems fine to me, but the "add to buyee" thing for amazon japan kinda seems weird to me. I've never bought a figure straight from Japan since I only recently started collecting so I'm kinda hesitant anyway. I will use the Live Chat with AmiAmi though. I was kinda disappointed they didn't have shipping estimate listed.
I am in Canada. My pre-orders from GSC Global got stuck on pending shipping for months on end. In the end, I cancelled those pre-orders. I did order something else, and as you pointed out, those got shipped out immediately.
adding a little to the Amazon JP tips, when you add items to your cart they'll have to be all sold by amazon or all sold by third party sellers, if you mix them up the shipping is going to be more expensive. Also the final price you get is a worst case escenario, sometimes they over estimate the taxes so a while after you get the figure you'll get some money back. if they under estimate the taxes they'll take the hit.
@@knight_flyer1199 i have bought from third parties many times with zero issues, even used figures, just check their ratings and be sure they're shipped by amazon and you are safe.
I can't even display the majority of my figures because a good chunk of room is taken up by my AOT Figurama and NieR Masterline. Those things are massive. But I can't wait to get my Amakuni Sumire and Ryza soon. 🙂
Akimomo is amazing if you don't want to mess around with chinese proxy services. They get a lot of chinese figures, that amiami sometimes does not get.
Goodsmile has one major downside for EU collectors: From what I have been told they declare the actual shipping price on the package and not the 2000 yen flatrate. So you get taxed on a higher shipping price.
That doesn't seem right. Import tax should be on the actual price of the item excluding the cost of shipping. If the retail of the figure is 5680 yen, that should the amount tax is charged on. Not 7680.
@@knight_flyer1199 That's unfortunately how EU import works and which makes it a huge pain imo. VAT is calculated on top of the total value of the package including shipping costs. And if the total order value is above 150eu you additionally pay import taxes. In Germany, if DHL takes care of the whole process, you pay an additional 6eu+ service fee which sucks if your customs office is nearby or when orders are randomly being split into multiple packages for no reason. (Doesn't apply to amazon jp orders, because they have special agreements and their packages are handled differently.) I haven't ordered directly from goodsmile yet but it should be possible to present the actual invoice with the 2000yen shipping to customs and get taxed accordingly or even claim something back.
They'll ship out and charge what they have available, so in stock items first. Amazon only charges you what they ship, anything that is not shipped is not charged yet. This means that when you preorder you don't get charged. As of right now, it's better to pay upfront if you can take advantage of the yen value being low by using the gift card method. It doesn't matter how many times orders are split up (I've had mine split up 4 times cause I preordered stuff that comes out random months). When you get charged depends on when your items come in stock. They'll ship it out as soon as your preorders arrive, charge you a portion (not the full) shipping fee, and won't charge anything extra. So say you preorder 2 items on different months and the combined shipping is 8k yen total. The first preorder item comes in, they ship it and charge you for the item + shipping for 4,000 yen. Once the 2nd item comes in the future a second transaction is made where you're charged for the rest: the item + 4000 yen, so 8k yen total for shipping.
do you need to pay sales tax when buying from amazon jp from a state that charges sales tax? I was comparing prices and ami ami is more expensive but the don't charge sales tax
So one of my biggest hurdles on amazon japan, is trying to actually find and check what figures they actually have listed. I am not sure if there is a new Pre-orders page, I know its not like amiami and many other strictly Figure/Merch focused stores since amazon carries so many different things. But actually searching and finding the link to the figure I want on amazon jp is whats daunting for me. Idk maybe thats actually a non issue and im over thinking it, but finding what is actually going to be on amazon jp is my main thing.
It's not really intuitive, but they actually have a section that shows new pre-orders that are listed. I usually get there by clicking "New Releases" on the top menu, then beside "Best Sellers in Hobbies" click the "See More". Now, you'll get access to a sub menu below the top main menu and you can click on "Figures". This part takes you to a Japanese section, but the top left box is basically for "recently added pre-order figures". Now you'll be able to see all the recently added figures in the hobbies/statues category.
With adding gift cards to a preorder on amazon jp can you add a gift card after you already made the preorder or would you have to cancel the preorder first (repreorder it) and add the full amount from the gift cards at check out?
You can add a gift card after! Just make sure you're on the desktop site and click the order, there should be a place where you can redeem your gift card for the order
hi! I wanted to make some amiami pre orders for the first time and wanted to triple check that they won't charge me until the release date is coming up right?
Where do you get the pre owned figures? I want to get a Misato Katsuragi figure somewhere, I seen it on eBay but I’m not sure if it’s safe to buy these things off there, is it?
I fell into figure collecting a month ago with my first pre-order on AmiAmi. Got several other pre-orders this month too and I'm about to get my detolf shelf tomorrow hopefully. If Gwynn or anyone else has any experience with NinNingames or J Figure, let me know. I'm a bit paranoid because of Ninningames not possibly shipping my pre-order. Its from Native BINDing which the actual deadline was back in March on native's website while Ninningames has it still up and I pre-order few weeks ago. I hear a lot of mixed things about them. I hear good things about Jfigure but haven't found much reviews on the internet.
NinNinGame is not as bad as it used to be. I have ordered from them several times in the last year (preorder and in-stock) and I have been able to get sold out Native Figures for less than aftermarket with postcards and better customer service than they used to have. JFigure is great, also ordered from them multiple times and they are fantastic for specific figures you can’t find anywhere else.
Ninningame can be a mixed bag and they’ll occasionally ask for extra shipping which can be annoying but it is legit. JFigure is pretty legit but make sure it’s not JFigures since that’s a fake one. P.S I love your username as a fellow Durandal fan 😂
When will amazon jp charge me when ordering multiple figures with different release times in one order though? Will they charge me for all of them when the first figure is ready to ship out? Or will they charge me one by one as they ship out? Or will they not charge until all of them have been shipped out?
They'll ship out and charge what they have available, so in stock items first. Amazon only charges you what they ship, anything that is not shipped is not charged yet. This means that when you preorder you don't get charged. As of right now, it's better to pay upfront if you can take advantage of the yen value being low by using the gift card method. I’ve just got an email for my first figure from Ami Ami, it’s ¥6,250 for delivery to Ireland for the Fate/Grand Order Saber/Mordred Clarent Blood Arthur 1/7. Is that a good delivery price?
@@taliban223ms3 It was EMS shipping I think it said, but I’m used to expensive shipping, all the resin statues I’ve bought have been over $350, with the most expensive one being $450. But I’m getting a $750 shipping charge on an upcoming statue haha.
@@InfamyOrDeath-__- Mine was also for EMS even tho I usually always use DHL but that was going to cost $250, even when I bought statues the shipping was lower than that so I had to use EMS😂
Amiami is a scam just because they hide your shipping prices until it's ready to ship. And I kept getting dinged with import charges. Amazon JP is the way for me. CDJapan is also pretty solid.

Love your videos 😍
Seems like I really should be using amazon more, I've got all my PO's with amiami still praying ems will be back next year
Akimomo is amazing if you don't want to mess around with chinese proxy services. They get a lot of chinese figures, that amiami sometimes does not get.
It sucks that Native doesn't ship to the UK. Right now EMS shipping on AmiAmi to the UK is cheap 1/4 bunnies are about 6k yen shipping.
Thank god USA still has EMS I would have had to pay double for DHL shipping which usually takes 4-5 days, EMS saved me all that money and took 6 days
How do you use the livechat ? Like where do you find it ?
for the bulk preorder hack on Amazon JP, do you pay shipping up front or at release with one of the figures?
I ordered a quarter scale bunny on amazon jp, and my cc was charged twice..
For the amazon jp one, do you require a proxy to get the stuff from there? I can't seem to deliver their items to my country.
What country are you trying to ship to? Some countries just aren’t covered by Amazon Japan.
Goodsmile has one major downside for EU collectors: From what I have been told they declare the actual shipping price on the package and not the 2000 yen flatrate. So you get taxed on a higher shipping price.
Can't you claim the extra you pay in import tax back from customs?
(Doesn't apply to amazon jp orders, because they have special agreements and their packages are handled differently.)
I haven't ordered directly from goodsmile yet but it should be possible to present the actual invoice with the 2000yen shipping to customs and get taxed accordingly or even claim something back.
Hi! Do you know when Amazon JP will charge you the combined shipping price when you pre order Items for different months or also instock items?
Gwyn is correct, Akimomo lets you transfer your deposits to another purchase :)
How long does amazon-jp shipping take?
I have a question. To ask on amiami for items to be put in smaller boxes is this only on in stock items?
As long as the item isn't an unreleased pre-order you can ask them to fit it in a smaller box!
greetings, this is my little collection , but i dont knoe the caraters ?
With adding gift cards to a preorder on amazon jp can you add a gift card after you already made the preorder or would you have to cancel the preorder first (repreorder it) and add the full amount from the gift cards at check out?
You can add a gift card after! Just make sure you're on the desktop site and click the order, there should be a place where you can redeem your gift card for the order
hi! I wanted to make some amiami pre orders for the first time and wanted to triple check that they won't charge me until the release date is coming up right?
Correct no payment needed until shipping is ready
Question do they have black Friday sales on Amazon jp or any type of decent sales
Do u know where I can get cheap ecchi figures????
How much does EMS cost usually for a standard 1/7 figure range
another banger
Where do you get the pre owned figures? I want to get a Misato Katsuragi figure somewhere, I seen it on eBay but I’m not sure if it’s safe to buy these things off there, is it?
My only question is if you fit all in one box, will the boxes for the figures come damaged?
How do I pay on Amazon Japan for I just set it to English to know how much I'll pay. And what ways can I pay
The Ami Ami live chat isn’t showing up for me, what should I do
I pre order my alter prinz eugen in ami ami T_T and I am in canada it sucks but I I gonna buy figs in amazon jp for now
Does the Naive store accept debit card or do they only accept credit card?
It doesn't matter how many times orders are split up (I've had mine split up 4 times cause I preordered stuff that comes out random months). @@Meowy_Mix thank you!
Does Amazon Jp have preorders for binding bunny?
No they don't carry any Native figures on Amazon JP
@@GwynCollects drats! I really want the new bunny allyson finches but I want to know all my options before getting her…
What happened these few weeks the Prices are going Up everwyhere.
Does Native store really not accept visa debit cards as payment method? it says in FAQ. its strange if they only accept credit cards
From my experience they do actually accept visa debit. If it lets you place the order you should be good!
@@GwynCollects thank you!
I’ve just got an email for my first figure from Ami Ami, it’s ¥6,250 for delivery to Ireland for the Fate/Grand Order Saber/Mordred Clarent Blood Arthur 1/7. Is that a good delivery price?
Depends how fast the shipping is but sounds pretty affordable, amiami had me pay like ¥22,000 for my last shipping price 😂
Amiami doesn’t have native
If you had bought amazon gift card last month when you though yen was low now this day you would be crying!
😍
Does Anime Figure Collectors wonder if they are still alive when their pre-ordered figures released? Waiting way too long scare me
Why did my comment keep getting removed? I tried to make a valid point...
Amiami is a scam just because they hide your shipping prices until it's ready to ship. And I kept getting dinged with import charges. Amazon JP is the way for me.
CDJapan is also pretty solid.
