According to an old legend, Twardowski was a nobleman (szlachcic) who lived in Kraków in the 16th century. He sold his soul to the devil in exchange for great knowledge and magical powers. However, Twardowski wanted to outwit the devil by including a special clause in the contract, stating that the devil could only take Twardowski's soul to Hell during his visit to Rome - a place the sorcerer never intended to go. Other variants of the story have Twardowski being sold to the devil as a child by his father.
With the devil's aid, Twardowski quickly rose to wealth and fame, eventually becoming a courtier of King Sigismund Augustus, who sought consolation in magic and astrology after the death of his beloved wife, Barbara Radziwiłł. He was said to have summoned the ghost of the late queen to comfort the grieving monarch, using a magic mirror. The sorcerer also wrote two books, both dictated to him by the devil - a book on magic and an encyclopedia.
After years of evading his fate, Twardowski was eventually tricked by the devil and caught not in the city, but at an inn called Rzym (Rome in Polish). While being spirited away, Twardowski started to pray to the Virgin Mary, who made the devil drop his victim midway to hell. Twardowski fell on the Moon where he lives to this day. His only companion is his sidekick whom he once turned into a spider; from time to time Twardowski lets the spider descend to Earth on a thread and bring him news from the world below.

Tak naprawdę, Legendy Polskie, to genialna seria pokazująca w nowoczesny i nowatorski sposób polskie legendy z dawnych czasów i te - z zupełnie niedawnych.

Chris, the 'bird' is an eagle, the national crest. There's a legend behind it, too, yes! A very brief explanation: the legendary founder of Poland, Lech (old German name for Poles - Lechien!!! He also had two brothers - Czech and Rus, the youngest) was looking for a place to establish his homeland and found a tree with a nest which belonged to the mentioned earlier white eagle - national symbol since times forgotten by history... Thanks for great content!

    • @rayan69pl

@@rayan69plI cannot agree that Rus was not named in any version of the legend, because Rus is mentioned in the Greater Poland Chronicle (Kronika Wielkopolska) from the 13th century as one of three brothers who set out from Pannonia to, in short, found their own countries.

Yes, Robert Więckiewicz is very famous actor. First ligue. The songs are famous but maybe not for young generation. First one was released in the 90's, second - probably 70's. The last song is a disco polo genre of music, which is hated by many Poles (in reality everybody knows them, because they are played on weddings, parties, festivals etc.). This particular one is "Ona tańczy dla mnie" (she is dancing for me) by Weekend (no, not The Weekend). The Twardowski legend tells that he signed a contract with the devil, that he would give him his soul for his magic skills.

I think the first song in this video is of the band called Elektryczne Gitary (Electric Guitars), which was famous in the 90- ties. The second song is a very good, well known old (1972) song of Tadeusz Woźniak titled "Zegarmistrz światła purpurowy" (the Purple Watchmaker of the Light). And the last one was also a very good and well known song (also quite old - of 1971) of a Polish artist Marek Grechuta titled "Dni, których jeszcze nie znamy" (Days, that we don't know yet). Marek Grechuta was a very good Polish singer, songwriter, poet and composer, famous of a very poetic, beautiful style of his songs (he died in 2006). And somewhere in between (around 7:50) there was also one disco polo song - disco polo is a very specific genre (I personally don't like it, as it's rather primitive).

In Allegro: Legendy Polskie there are scenes after the end titles ;) Just like in Marvel movies.
This "bird" is the Polish emblem of the white eagle in a crown. Yes, there is a story behind it; there were 3 brothers Lech, Czech, and Rus. They wandered to find a place where to settle down. One evening Lech saw a white eagle sitting in its nest. The bird drew out its wings, the setting sun staining the sky red around the white eagle. Lech decided he would settle down in this place. The place he called "Gniezno" (from the word "nest"= "gniazdo"). This city still exists today ;)
Back to Allegro, there is an origin story to this demon-lady. It's in a song: "Aleja Gwiazd by Allegro". On a side note- the woman is not an actress but a RUclips influencer ;)

The tale of Master Twardowski is well known in Polish folklore and literature. Sometimes he was indeed compared to Goethe's Faust and even called the Polish Faust (although it's not the same, but there are some parallels). Here it's a very modernized version of the legend. By the way, in this cycle "Allegro. Legendy polskie" there is also a good piece - music cover of the Polish song titled "Aleją gwiazd" - Ania Karwan and Matheo.

There's a legend about 3 brothers: Lech, Czech and Rus. Czech went south and founded Czechia, Rus went east and founded Ruś (Ruthenia) which is a territory in the Carpathian mountains shared today by Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine. The people living there are called Rusyns (I mention it because people often confuse Ruthenia with Russia, but of course there was neither Russia nor Russians at that time). Lech went north and founded Poland (Lechia is an ancient name for Poland). Lech chose a place where he saw a white eagle's nest which is why the white eagle is the emblem of Poland. The town he founded was called Gniezno (meaning "nest") near Poznań. Gniezno was the first capital of Poland.

So, after Twardowski was taken by the devil from the Inn Rome (because of the contract he had with the Devil), he prayed to Virgin Mary, and She caused the devil to drop him before reaching Hell. As a result, he fell on the Moon where he lived alone. This is a modern take on it. The woman is a demon bidding the will of the Devil Boruta (who had the contract for Twardowski's soul). Devil Boruta is a fictional character from Polish mythology, folklore and literature, associated with the Polish town of Łęczyca. The character is the transformation of the pagan Slavic leshy in post-Christianization times.

Although the Legend about Twardowski comes from the 16th century, there's also a poem by Adam Mickiewicz about Twardowski's wife "Pani Twardowska" 1822. That poem was translated to German and made into a song known as "Frau Twardowska" by composer Carl Loewe. So you can look that up.

    • @MayaTheDecemberGirl

It's worth to add that Adam Mickiewicz was one of the most important Polish writers, the leading figure of the Polish Romanticism (which was a very important epoch in Polish culture and literature, as it was the times when Poland lost independence for 123 years, between 1798-1918, and there were two big national uprisings in the XIXth century), one of the so-called "Three National Bards" of the Polish Romanticism. And he is known very well also in Lithuania and Bellarus, as these lands in the past (during the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) were one state, and their fate after the three Partitions of Poland was similar. Mickiewicz is compared to other great writers of the Romanticism epoch, like English George Byron. He is regarded as one of the greatest Polish poets, and many places, like streets or schools, are named after him.

For centuries there was one state, under the rule of Polish king (until the partitions). And Mickiewicz wrote all his works only in Polish, and was very much engaged all his life for the cause of Polish independence. So we cannot look at it as it was the current situation, with separate states.

The Legend of Twardowski is about a nobleman who has signed a contract with the devil. All his wishes were to be fulfilled for a certain time, and when this time ended Twardowski's soul was the devil's to take. I don't remember the details on top of my head but he outsmarted the devil. At least one version had something to do with hiding on the moon.
If you want to watch the entire series, you would benefit from doing it in proper order. I believe it is: Smok wawelski, Twardowski 1, Twardowski 2, bazyliszek, Jaga.

This white eagle is the emblem of Poland. There is a legend which explains its origin (the legend of Lech, Czech and Rus): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lech,_Czech,_and_Rus%27
There were three brothers Lech, Czech, and Rus who traveled together (just like in the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"😅). Once, Lech noticed a white eagle in a nest on a tree. The eagle took off and was visible in the red sky because it was a sunset (that's why we have a white eagle against a red sky/background as an emblem). Lech decided that this was the place where he would live, and the city that he founded there he named Gniezno (an old form of the Polish word "Gniazdo", meaning nest). Gniezno is a real place and it is known as the first Polish capital, so that’s how Lech founded Poland according to this old legend. His brothers Czech and Rus left him there and moved on. Czech went south where he founded the Czech Republic and Rus went east and became the founder of Russia.
You may be confused why Poland is not named after Lech. Its name comes from the Slavic tribe of “Polans” (pol. Polanie). However, it is called differently in the other languages:
    Lit. Lenkija
    Hun. Lengyelország
    Tur. Lehistan
    Pers. Lahestân
    Arm. Lehastan
In the past Poles called themselves Lechici (eng. Lechites or ger. Lechiten) since the times of Wincenty Kadłubek (1150-1223) - author of the Chronicle of the History of Poland, considered one of the most important figures in the history of Polish literature and historiography; referred to as the "father of Polish culture"; Bishop of Kraków.
There are different versions of this legend. In most of them there are only two brothers Lech and Czech. Russia was founded (and it's historically) by the vikings that came there and mixed with the slavic tribes. Their chief Ruryk (Rurik) started the Rurik dynasty (pol. Rurykowicze) which ruled the Kievan Rus and later Russia. "Rus" is how they called the viking tribe of Varangians (pol. Waregowie) and it comes from the Finno-Ugric word "ruotsi", which means "coast dwellers". Finns still call Swedes this way, from whom they may have taken the word, because "Roslag" means "coast" in Old Norse.

Oh Jesus.... you missed so much that I recommend you to watch it again - few times.
First of all you have to understand the Twardowski story (which is folklore of course) so here it is:
Pan Twardowski, a scholar and alchemist, makes a pact with the devil, often named Faust or Mephistopheles, in exchange for magical powers and knowledge. In some versions, he specifically asks the devil for wealth and the ability to summon spirits. However, there's a catch - the devil will eventually come to claim Twardowski's soul.
Over time, Twardowski enjoys the benefits of his deal but becomes increasingly aware of the impending doom. He tries various tricks to outsmart the devil, including invoking the Virgin Mary's protection. However, in most versions of the story, the devil ultimately finds a way to take Twardowski to hell.
The legend of Pan Twardowski serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of making deals with dark forces and the inevitability of facing the consequences of one's actions.
So basically it's just a fairytale explaining how greedy people end up.
Now - once understanding this we can focus on answering your questions. However though you must understand that this video is "modernized" version of original Twardowski's story. That's the whole point basically. It shows the ancient story in modern way. So let's focus on answering your questions:
2:14 - he is famous actor
2:57 - it is famous song in Poland yet from communism times - I would say it's POP culture of Poland from communism
3:45 - she did had a space ship showed at 3:09 - look again
    4:35 - added some drug
4:59 - she's basically saying that Elvis (Presley) is already in the hell and implicates to Twardowski that he will be next
5:50 - she's not a devil herself but she was sent by the devil or Mephistopheles - that's why she has capability to have such voice
7:02 - contract between Twardowski and Mephistopheles (devil) which he signed up at the beginning (look at my explanation again about Twardowski story - just before answering your questions)
7:52 - it is like German "schlager" - but here it's called Disco-Polo and this is most hated music. Only stupid units listens to that shit so for her this is intelectual torture.
9:48 - While two stripes of white and red are our flag this "bird" as you called it is our national coat of arms. It represents White Eagle. In Germany for instance you have simmilar coat of arms but represented by Black Eagle. You have exactly same thing in Germany but showing different (yet simmilar) bird. Our white eagle represents purity while the black German eagle represents authority and determination (at least from what I learned - so don't judge me on that).
So really it suppries me that you don't know that nations except their flag have national coats of arms - and Germany has very simmilar to ours.
This is Polish flag and coat of arms combined:
    st4.depositphotos.com/1005574/20007/v/1600/depositphotos_200077568-stock-illustration-poland-flag-white-royal-eagle.jpg
And this is German flag and coat of arms combinded:
    m.media-amazon.com/images/I/31XZXXx+d1L._UF1000,1000_QL80_.jpg
I hope that I helped you understand this video a little bit more :-)
*comment edited because as my fellow countryman pointed out "herb" is not exactly an English name for "coat of arms" so I've changed it along whole comment.

OK, I am sure you have been briefed about it all, but let me summarize: There were two famous Polish alchemists in the 16th century: one was _Sendivogius_ (Michał Sędziwój), a famous guy, a scholar and a diplomat. He lived long and prospered. The other one was _Duranovius_ (Jan Twardowski), and he was murdered by the Mniszech family (a powerful lobby, you don't eff with them). Importatntly, Twardowski was a black magician and a necromancer. Legends emerged right away after this murder. "Master Twardowski" has become a stuff of legend in Poland. The first and most popular one was that he actually made it (they tried to kill him, but they couldn't, as he made a pact with the devil), and he lives on the effffing MOON!! (just like "Elvis lives") Crazy as it seems, that's the legend: "Twardowsky on the Moon." There you have it. This series is an attempt to re-tell those Polish legends of old. Enjoy!

An interesting fact is the Twardowsky mirror, associated with a legend, which is currently located in the church in Węgrów. It was made of an alloy of gold, silver, zinc and tin. there is an inscription in Latin on the kest frame ("Twardowski played with this mirror, performing magic arts, now it is intended to serve God"), it is broken into three parts. These cracks have several legends:
    1. Napoleon, during his expansion to Russia, saw his defeat in it, became furious and broke the mirror or dropped it out of fear
    2. A local priest saw the devil's reflection in the mirror and broke the mirror
    3. A Polish soldier saw an old, bad-looking man in the mirror. he was caught by the Russians and sent to work in Siberia, from where he returned as an old man

Making Lucy - aka Lucifer - a woman might seem off but in a way it can be a reference to an old Polish saying "gdzie diabeł nie może, tam babę pośle" - "where the devil can't go, he'll send a woman" ("baba" can mean a woman, a crone or a hag depending on the context).
There's also a pastiche of the Twardowski legend - Pani Twardowska by Adam Mickiewicz, wherein the devil does come for Twardowski but has to fulfill three of his commands to collect his soul. The first is to build a building with very specific materials, and the devil manages it with some annoyance. The second is to take a bath in holy water, and the devil survives. The third... is to spend one year being a dutiful husband to Twardowski's wife... and upon hearing that one, the devil breaks and runs away.
