Hey man that second modification totally made sense to me. I am a 38 year old father of two. I have a RUclips channel about incorporating more movement/exercise into your every day life. I would suggest while splitting with the splitter in the vertical position, to do that in a deep squalid position. It’s a lot easier to do the work interesting deep squat, then to be standing up and bending over at the hips. Anyways that’s just my take, I found this video very enjoyable to watch, and I also like the music that you used during your splitting montage! Cheers from my fellow creator, I think I’ll subscribe now!

Good video. I just picked up learning how to weld semi recently and really enjoy it. Very useful to have in the garage. I got the titanium flux 125 from HFT and it is a great unit for the price. Can get it on sale for 179.

That is awesome! Thanks for the comment. I am going to learn it one of these days.

I forgot to mention that I just purchased this log splitter two days ago off of craigslist. I was very excited to get it because I had used one like it in the past. I live on a small lot, it’s nice and portable to be able to bring in and out of my garage.

I’m telling you, it can get through the toughest logs. Haven’t found a log it couldn’t get through yet.

When you lift the log splitter in to the Vertical position you Must lock in the safety pin, that will make it secure and safe while you are splitting wood.
Look it's either on the right or the left side, it's for safety. I have the same machine, but in cub cudat. I always use it Vertical position it's much easier to keep lifting the heavy logs, I just roll it up and split, check that safety pin lock

Yes, it turns out it has a spring and auto-locked-in position. I still think standing is more comfortable for me and lifting is not too big of a deal with normal-sized rounds. I am also young. My older friends think I'm doing it wrong lol

When you. Find the video showing the use of the rod to do a shorter stop, please send me the link for it. Also, JFY: Swisher splitters makes a 4-way part that will fit easily over the wedge. You will have to either remove the red piece which is there to knock of stuck wood or cut it short, or just cut some slots to allow for the passage of the wings of the 4-way itself. I welded a table on my splitter. Which was bought at TSC, tractor supply company. I’m sure you can find examples in a web search. Enjoy.

Liked and subscribed. I have the same unit probably from 2010 when was purchased new from Lowe’s. Mines on its second Briggs and Stratton after having carb issues. I use ethanol free gas and no issues.

Thanks Dave! Yes mine is running strong but I only use it 2-3 times a year for long hard hauls. Generally we burn 2 cords per winter and I split a cord per session. Love this thing so far

@@twiggshomestead6497 make sure you run ethanol free. I put another carb on my first Briggs and it never ran right. I was only using it a few times a year as well. I use mine like once a month now.

Copy that, would you recommend running premium or super through it? Someone recommended using a higher test fuel in smaller engines

@@twiggshomestead6497 just ethanol free, that’s usually 90 octane anyway.

I have found the padded 5 gallon bucket seat is the perfect height to operate at when in the upright.

Very good idea! I would need to get a few more hours behind the upright position to come up with a good comfortable position that works for me. Thanks for the comment!

What does that unit measure (horizontally) from the bottom of the plate to the tip of the coupler?

    • @twiggshomestead6497
      @twiggshomestead6497  10 месяцев назад

hm i dont have it infront of me but just a touch guess, 36 inches.

It's got to be more than that! MTD's specs say height is 54"@@twiggshomestead6497

@@twiggshomestead6497 I think you might be misunderstood what I am talking about. There is no way that measures 36". I'm talking about from the bottom plate, (when you turn it up vertically. The plate that sits on the ground) to the front hitch where you put it on the ball to tow it. THAT's the measurement I am looking for. ;)

Honestly it works best as a two man job, me and my dad can process several cords of wood in just a few hours.

Sounds like it mite be a little low in rpm for a OHC engine. I made a little video after doing some upgrades to my older mtd-20 from the 80s
    .
it originally had a briggs and Stratton, flathead engine that only did 3,000-ish rpm the replacement H/F engine runs at 3,600 max. And could definitely handle a bigger pump some day.
Shaved about 4 seconds off a round trip, just from the increase in rpms.
    .
Along with the vibration reduction and engine sound reduction from other bolt on upgrades.
You can actually run it without earplugs, as its about 80db for sound now.
Anyway hopefully that gives you some ideas.

@twiggshomestead6497 forgot about this one, shows a little more detail.
      Of the changed parts.
      .
Was right after I changed things. Was verifieing it ran right before installing the propane carburetor.
As non ethanol fuel is way over priced in the area, and I hit the dew point quite regularly affecting the gas with 10% mix.
      Thus I went LP.
      Anyway, enjoy.
