    The secret service told Robert Kennedy that they could not protect him if things got violent but he still went and delivered one of the most powerful speeches in history

      It wasn’t a speech. His remarks were not scripted, nor pre-planned. He spoke extemporaneously… and his recitation of that poem was immediately seen by that audience as being the passage that had brought him comfort in his greatest moment of loss.

    Why did you leave out RFK's call to prayer? It was a crucial part of the short speech. "So I ask you to return home, to say a prayer for the family of Martin Luther King -- yeah, it's true -- but more importantly to say a prayer for our own country, which all of us love -- a prayer for understanding and that compassion of which I spoke."

  • @jdice6868
    @jdice6868 Год назад +44

    This may have happened before my birth, but I find I am affected nonetheless. To lose both Dr. King and Robert Kennedy in 1968 was a gigantic blow to a country in turmoil attempting pitifully and painfully to find its way. I can only imagine the great heights we did not reach because these two inspirational leaders were taken from us. I have always believed that Robert would have been an even better president than John. Dr. King would have had an ally with whom progress would have been expeditiously realized. The SCOTUS appointments, the labor initiatives, civil protections, improvements to healthcare and education, along with the obviation of corporate abuses that could have been accomplished by the alignment of these two visionaries could have created a country that would not have welcomed the neoliberalism that took root in the '80s. Perhaps that is exactly why they needed to be stopped.

    • @jonRboy
      @jonRboy 4 года назад +6

      Learn something? That's really the problem isn't it? He's closed off and isn't interested. His priorities are set in concrete and we can see from his Tweets what he finds important. He is exactly what I expected him to be as President, in fact he's worse. Instead of growing into the job and perhaps rising to the occasion just a little bit, and perhaps being influenced in some way, it's been just the opposite. He's diminished the title by his own pettiness, vulgarity, and narcissism. Colin Powell and Obama each summed Trump up in 4 words total, 2 each: Powell called him a 'national disgrace' and Obama described him as being 'uniquely unqualified' for the job. Pretty good summation right there, IMHO.

    Growing up, I only knew that President John F. Kennedy had a brother named Bobby. Though I also knew that both were assassinated, JFK in Dallas and RFK in California during his presidential campaign, I was taught almost nothing else about the Kennedy family's legacy and influence. I didn't live through those times, because I am only 20 years old I have no true understanding of the struggles the US had at that time, such as the ones Martin Luther King fought for. It is a shame that JFK's legacy shadows that of RFK, because Bobby Kennedy seemed to be a sincere and driven man who truly cared about the people he knew and America as a whole. He was also an excellent speaker, knowing how to draw you in and connect with his audience as he did here through referring to his brother's murder. Bobby's "Ripple of Hope" speech he gave in South Africa (I think that's where he gave it) is another excellent speech, should you be looking for another RFK speech
