So Amazon Prime, Netflix, VRV, Hulu pretty much all replaces cable subscriptions; however, I was curious about RUclips TV and saw this neat review, and said, “Like RUclips Red: not worth the money”
Joe - please consider reviewing this again (a year and a half later), to let us know if they've made any improvements to the service. I was hoping I could use TIVO with this. I think I'd miss being able to fast forward, pause and roll back through shows easily (without having to wait for buffering).
Great review. The biggest beef I have with it us when you're watching a recorded program and you want to fast forward through ads or to another part of the program there is no visual seek like on RUclips videos
Thanks, Joe. This is EXACTLY the review I've been waiting for. One of the things I like best about your channel, is the amount of depth in your reviews. Specifically, I had questions about the relationship between RUclips Red and RUclips TV, and whether my Red subscription would free me from having to watch ads if I subscribed to the TV product. And, you nailed it. Thanks again, and keep up the great work!
We have Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime and PBS. If I want to watch something live, like a Presidential speech or something, someone is carrying it live on RUclips. We have regular TV but never watch it because we're in a dead zone, and we don't watch enough TV to need cable. For our needs, there is more than enough content on our subscriptions. Maybe I would be more inclined to get this if it had its own exclusive programs like our subscriptions have. I don't think this is something for us. Thank you for the informative review.
They made the service available in Atlanta last week. They are growing fast and adding channels. Currently, I could get 48 channels. However, it only works with a ChromeCast device and you need a smart phone to act as your remote. They say they're working hard to make the service available for other platforms. When they include Fire TV, I'll sign up.
The problem with recording live TV, is TV is in segments, not shows. Segments are like on the hour, or every half an hour. If a special episode airs for 45 minutes in the morning, then all the other shows are offset by 15 min, your recordings won't match up till they reset the schedule. It's one of the main reasons why I don't record TV automatically and either do it manually, or just wait till the series is on Netflix
RUclips TV $35 a Month ($40 a Month if you are with iTunes.) Showtime is $11 a Month and Fox Soccer Plus is $15 a Month all with the added tax! In RI $65.27 ($70.62 with iTunes) With NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox all say On-Demand Only!
RUclips Tv has a free promo for a free weekly service, you can cancel right after you sign up, and still get all 7 days for free. So far I actually really like and it runs very smoothly. The only downfall I have experienced, is like you mentioned: Not being able to look at whats playing on certain channels in the future, outside of an hour or two ahead.
I signed up for the RUclips TV in the Philadelphia area about 3 weeks ago when it was available. two months ago I got rid of cable in my house and there are few things that I miss and I can get some of them with the RUclips TV. My only gripe with RUclips TV is that one-third of the stations are sports-related. the so that only gives me 20 some channels. But overall I have been really pleased with the way that it operates and the way I can DVR some of my shows and watch them at my convenience.
No Joe I don't watch any live network TV. We have Netflix, Hulu and I am a Prime member. It works for us. I have easily cut my Cable bill in half. Of course we still have to pay for 100mb internet .
I use an antenna and I keep zap2it on my phone to use for a TV guide. Just go to the site and enter your zip or postal code for your local listings. I just pin the web page to my screen. I don't have a machine set up right now but I've been doing home theatre TV for about 15 years. They have actually been changing the start times of the shows for a long time and we always had to adjust our software. The cable companies probably do this automatically on their DVRs. I haven't had cable for years. And, now that we're digital you all know that you can get your locals in free, uncompressed HD, right? A good option if you are short on cash.
I don't like the fact that they show you the final score of recorded sporting events, taking ALL of the excitement out of watching them. It's like telling you how a movie ends BEFORE you watch it, major spoiler. Also, app is not compatible with my Samsung Table A 10.1 or my Mirada.
We thought it is quiet expensive for APAC student customer , but affordable if you are Commercial service likes pub/bar or FINE dining restaurant for five star hotel or Michelin three star French/italian style restaurant
For $35 each month you get more with streaming DirectTV Now and it works with Roku, Amazon fire stick or Apple TV. Plus it can be watched on a TV, computer, tablet or smartphone.
Yes, what is up with the no, "coming up next" feature? That makes no sense at all for an attempt to mini rival cable. Maybe they outsourced this part to a government agency, where we know nothing has to make sense.
Comcast Pre-paid TV is coming soon!! It's only $20. And it offers my local channel's plus a decent line up. All I need since I have Android Box for movies & shows.
Had they have added a RUclips Red subscription without RUclips TV, it would been a perfect deal. Ad-free RUclips, Live TV, AND google play music in one.
hey bro.... If you just click on the symbol of the channel in the live tab you can see all the upcoming programs....be thorough before making strong criticisms... It's been there since the day they released the app
I'm seriously interested, but the one question not answered- How difficult to change channels ?? If it's streaming, do you have to wait 10-15 seconds to reload like Amazon Prime ??
Thanks for the insight with this. I really liked how you showed the interface and add on package options. Great high quality videos as always, keep up the good work!
ThioJoe, did you check how many simultaneous streams you can have on RUclips TV? One of the gotchas with these live tv services is that they only give you 1 or 2 streams at a time.
all you need is Kodi and use a build like titanium and Bam you get all the streaming channels you could want and it's not illegal to stream. you can even find any movie you could ever want to watch. so I don't pay for tv anymore
Hey man. Just wanted to let you know that I absolutely love your videos! Your reviews are top notch, and you have an awesome sense of humor to boot! Cheers brother! :-)
Not enough channels, DVR that forces you to watch an Ad, RUclips Red not included - all for only $35. I can't wait until these companies stop sitting on their hands and make TV that is on demand and ad-free.
This doesn’t seem bad Especially for the price but don’t like not having the guide.I just cut the cord and went with the PlayStation Vue.So far it’s working out pretty well for me.
hardly "all the big channels" there is NO Scripps Networks (HGTV, DIY Network and others) or Discovery (Discovery, Velocity, Animal Planet and others), No A&E networks (History, A&E, and others), NO Viacom (Comedy Central, MTV, VH1, BET, Nickelodeon and others) honestly the only thing worse then how limited the availability is is the piss poor channel lineup.
Its going to give people who live in NEW ENGLAND a chance to watch NESN which airs the Redsox, Bruins and other sports teams. NESN is only a part of the very much more expensive packages with cable providers. Thanks to you tube for coming up with a lower cost option for us. :)
Looks like a good service but.....still doesn't have MTV, VH1, logo, etc... Still sling is the only one that has those. For paid subscription live tv, I think sling is still the best option.
I agree with your assessment on youtubeTV...one thing to mention is the number of channels (47 in ny market) is focused on sports and lacks other entertaining channels like hgtv, food network, tbs, tnt as well as a few other local market channels like CW and PBS. Also, other competitors offer more channels (utube is 47 vs HuluTV is 64 for $5 more) so it depends what you really want so do the ho mework and give the free trials a chance before to pick...you can always cancel anytime and switch which I like it to give some competition to earn my business! :))
I am an over the road truck driver. I travel through 4-7 states a day. Is this a product that would suit my needs for times when I'm waiting for cargo? Obviously I'm not going to be in the area that I purchased it in.
Thanks for the review. I personally wouldn't buy it. The knocks you listed were enough of a deal breaker for me. What you didn't mention is where the shows are recorded. Is this done on the subscriber's computer? One thing you could try is recording your feeds to an AVio device. Then edit out all the commercials. Once that is done you have an offline copy to add to your library.
I wish there was a way to pick and choose your shows. Like, for me, I just want my Cartoon Network, Disney XD, and Adult Swim and I'm good to go for TV, I don't need 100000+ sports channels.
I'm giving the free trial a shot. I like it so far, I might even keep it. I've been streaming Netflix and Hulu via Chromecast for the past several years and that's been sufficient other than I have missed sports. This has a lot of sports on it. I saw UFC unleashed, NASCAR, and even PBR bull riding in the hour I tested it out, no football was on obviously but I think it will be on the service. I may drop either Netflix or Hulu and keep this. $35 isn't that much.
I am not a big fan of TV but this is going to be useful I wanna watch some movies and it's pretty much affordable.. Though I'm disappointed about the ads. I just prefer adding a buck or five to remove ads because it's really annoying. But it's still good new to have RUclips TV.. I hope they add more improvement and I will definitely have it.
I tried youtube tv and found the bitrate sucked. After watching Netflix and Amazon which come through in extremely high quality, the youtube picture quality sucked. Sports are unwatchable. Any motion is blurred. I have 300 mbps fiber and gigabit router with cat6 Ethernet cable so speed was not an issue. Video quality was awful
How is a cable company with half a dozen competitors a monopoly? 1. Direct TV 2. Dish Network 3. RUclips TV 4. Amazon Prime 5. Hulu 6. Sling 7. Other more limited streaming services Of the above, only Dish and Direct TV gave me better and easier to use service than cable. And they weren't cheap either.
So, this is only for the USA? Something tells me that Google won't let anything come between them and lots of money so maybe in the future they will allow overseas people have it.
Need to know, which you omitted...what devices, TV, chromecast, Roku work with it...otherwise it may be an added expense if it does not work with what you have.
I see sooo many negative comments here. I have tried other streamers and this is by FAR the best live TV streamer in my opinion. Even better than Sling. This app just blows my mind. It has all the MLB games and other sports, movies that you can save on your library (with commercials. It's like a DVR) tons of kids channels all in HD and live shows that you can watch on 4 devices for just $35 a month. Nothing can beat that. I guess if you are into lots of sitcoms and shows episodes, Hulu would be better. But I don't care for those . I just hope they don't get greedy and start bringing the price up. Cable ans Satellite TV are on the verge of extinction.
I really like being able to watch tv on any device that happens to be laying around. Very convenient to sit down with my Tablet and watch a show in a room that doesn't have a TV. The recording option is pretty weak compared with a cable set up but hey it works. I agree with Thio that it desperately needs some kind of guide. Also for sports, I would like to be able to extend in case the game goes into overtime. Net, I am going to cut my $125 cable bill and replace it with a $35 RUclips tv subscription NOW. Thanks Google!
I have a question: if youtube TV doesn't show a guide how can you record a show, envent, movie etc that will be transmitted in the future? for example I want to record a sport game that will be broadcast live the next day how can I schedule it to be recorded? is this possible without a guide? this for me is a deal-breaker
I would do this service. I haven't watched tv in 2 months, although I will watch on occasion. I do the internet, game a lot and RUclips. My question is, I live In Va. Beach, VA. Does RUclips plan to expand the service to all cities, at least in the US??
The "deal" would not be with the cable companies, it would be with the network. Cable companies PAY for each network. ESPN and CNN each costs every customer $8 a month. RUclips and Google will have to pay that also. The Network tells Google and the Cable company what they can do with the product, including commercials. Every cable company, just about, uses TVGuide for their guide. That costs them also. Google is not paying anyone to publish a guide so its not there.
Here we are 2023 and in my brief experience with RUclips TV I have come to the conclusion that it sucks. There is NO real customer service and the DVR does not function properly like it should. My friend in NC no problems, but me here in Dallas, TX it does not record my new shows, it only indicates released which is vod and not able to FF thru commercials. ugh and that sucks! Of course I can't figure it out because there is NO customer service to speak of. Thru another video it shows I should click the ? button, but that doesn't work either.
I rather watch RUclips Tv because I'm not a huge fan of Netflix Originals. Netflix won't even tell you how many views something got and not to mention it's lost 2000 movies.
I don't get how this is better than paying for cable service price-wise. First off, you already have to pay for internet to use it...and the cost to add a basic cable package or get a bundle with phone+internet+tv or just internet and tv is not much different than paying for RUclips TV + just an internet service.
Even though I was leery of changing at first, I cut the cable with Spectrum/Time Warner and my son-in-law shared is RUclips TV subscription with me (and 5 other households!) I have no cable bill now, just internet and can watch and record all of the programs I really like without wading through cable garbage. They have all of the major networks, I have 50 channels on mine and can watch local news too. Lots of sports-in fact, being a non-sports fan, there is almost too much! The first 13 channels on mine are all sports. I am enjoying not paying that $165 cable bill. I'd recommend this to anyone who is tired of paying for garbage cable. I'm also amazed that when you subscribe, the subscriber can share the service with 6 other households!!!
My current cable company offers all the same things at a cheaper price. However, being it is a cable company other features are better. Current price I am paying is 19.99 after my first free month.
I tried RUclips TV for two months. I don't say it sucks. The DVR function works good and the picture looks great but I did cancel my membership because there wasn't enough good content. If you like sports there are allot of channels but the rest of the stuff wasn't enough to be of any value to me at $38/month. Also they promised me a Chrome cast after the first payment and as of writing this I still have not received it. thats been over two months. Also when I sent an email asking for status of the chromecast it stated I would get an answer within two business days.. that has long past as well. So if they had more content on the basic service, Kept their promises of the chromecast and follow up on their emails as they clearly state I would have not dropped the service. so Better content, better service and lower price would be all it would have taken to keep me.. Then again it is Google.
I am sick of RUclips TV GLITCHES!!!!!!!!! First won't let you rewind, now there is no sound!! Now they added new channels coming up that we WILL NEVER WATCH and the price is going up! We are switching to Sling... i cannot take youtube tv any more!
RUclips seems to really be advertising this today more than other days, probably because The Walking Dead starts back up today. Sling heavily promotes themselves on Roku the day of some of these highest rated shows starting back up. It's actually free, but I don't wan't to really get sucked back into watching TV too much or wasting $35 down the road not watching it. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime and I don't feel like I utilize them that much either.
Why is no one talking about RUclips's sign up with these networks and the de-monitization of videos who disagree with these networks. Seems to be a connection of profit.
You even give your money to a monopolized telecom company bro?
ThioJoe do you?
ThioJoe no I prefer monopolised internet company
please stop making the videos just about 10+ minutes and I'll disable my adblock for you - thanks!
*oligopolistic
It's not a monopoly, it's a oligopoly.
ThioJoe
I think so
I haven't paid for tv in 25years I ain't starting now ! 🐓
Then tv should be FREE YES YES YES ONLY FOR I DONT WANT TO SAY YES TO MINATI NO MINati
So Amazon Prime, Netflix, VRV, Hulu pretty much all replaces cable subscriptions; however, I was curious about RUclips TV and saw this neat review, and said, “Like RUclips Red: not worth the money”

RUclips TV is going make buying DVDS popular again
Sorry, I can't follow what you mean???
Sick rhymes at the beginning of the video Thio!
Nice in depth look into the service. Hoping to try it out for myself soon.
I use an antenna and I keep zap2it on my phone to use for a TV guide. Just go to the site and enter your zip or postal code for your local listings. I just pin the web page to my screen. On Xfinity Recorded is better than On Demand because you can skip the ads. On demand you can't or the fast forward is delayed.

Exactly no good channels line up smh
Just use mobdro has most channels that are live streaming online like showtime and hbo and it's free.
I need this in North Carolina, you only have TWC/Spectrum, Windstream for cable & Dish & AT&T/DirecTV for satellite

You can see a guid for a little further if you click on the channel
Really thorough. Great video!
5 out of 5 stars review, answered all my questions.
Thanks for making the video, I was really wondering if getting youtube tv was worth it, and frankly, what it even was, keep up the good work.
I rather watch RUclips Tv because I'm not a huge fan of Netflix Originals. Netflix won't even tell you how many views something got and not to mention it's lost 2000 movies.
You remind me of one of the characters in the King Cobra movie...
Why don't they just let everyone access everyone elses DVR from the same region. It occupy way less space while giving more on demand access
I don't get how this is better than paying for cable service price-wise. First off, you already have to pay for internet to use it...and the cost to add a basic cable package or get a bundle with phone+internet+tv or just internet and tv is not much different than paying for RUclips TV + just an internet service.
Is this valid in India?
Is this valid in your mother?
Trailers, Clips, and More! stfu
YOU STFU!
You stfu.
Oh no! I just created a "stfu" tail... lmao
LEE GALEN Do you still have to have a major internet service or will the Wi-Fi on your phone suffice if you just want to use your phone?
My current cable company offers all the same things at a cheaper price. However, being it is a cable company other features are better. Current price I am paying is 19.99 after my first free month.
It is now in orlando fl
I don't watch TV anyway lol
So why the hell did you watch this video? LOL
@@myafaire1682 He just wanted to troll
Now avail in Northern Nevada
Do this also apply too local channels
70 bucks a month should get you way more .
Can you watch RUclips TV on multiple TVs at the same time?
Does it come with a physical T.V or is it online? Did you purposely go to one of the cities to sign up?
So I pay to watch cable on my smaller computer screen instead of on my more comfortable large TV Screen?
I am sick of RUclips TV GLITCHES!!!!!!!!! First won't let you rewind, now there is no sound!! Now they added new channels coming up that we WILL NEVER WATCH and the price is going up! We are switching to Sling... i cannot take youtube tv any more!
I am in a town close to Philadelphia does that mean I can still use RUclips TV
Good stuff bro!
Have you done a review on how well the android phone app works.
awesome review thio, love these rant style videos
Has anything changed since you made this video? Can you now see ahead and are there any new channels ect.
its available in atlanta too
Great review! 👍 RUclips TV seems pretty cool after watching this.
Good gravy do many rules plus no local local shows like news and the public info shows on Sunday mornings
Why is no one talking about RUclips's sign up with these networks and the de-monitization of videos who disagree with these networks. Seems to be a connection of profit.
ThioJoe. Thanks for The YTTV info. What is the Live Tech support number for YTTV and how do I see YTTV on all my TV's, Computers in my house?
I wonder if all 6 accounts can watch at the same time. Do each different emails have their own recordings? Or are they all listed under one account?
It's only a 7 day trial here in Massachusetts
