- Three time 500cc Motocross World Champion Dave Thorpe swings his leg over a two stroke for the first time in a long time! We were lucky enough to attend DT's Evo MX training day and witness the great champion take his first ride on board his recently purchased CR250 2 stroke. This is a real treat, enjoy guys!
If you want learn some of his secrets to success, we have a full video from his Evo training coming soon and if you want to ride with Dave yourself he has a few more days coming this summer on the 30th June and 14th July! :-D
My godfather used to race him in the GPs, he said it was incomprehensible to him how Thorpe, Malherbe and the likes did it. In training they weren't so far away from his pace, but in the Motos they were in a league of their own
To this day Dave makes it look effortless. Thanks for watching again dude
Watched him as a teenager in 80s. He's still got that familiar great style in the corners. As soon as you see him sit down and ride through a corner you can tell that it's Thorpe.
Thanks for watching Rob
Me as well. Smooth as silk ... 👍😁
remember his battles with Malherme on the CR500 2 guys guys that were relentless on the track he still has it
Twas a pleasure to watch one of the greatest 500 champs still sending it on a cr, cheers!
Thanks Tim, he makes it look effortless doesn't he
Hard to imagine hes 58 yrs old, one lap now and I would need the air ambulance 😥 tell Dave's style anywhere was lucky enough to meet him no crowds just me my two mates Dave and Dickie dye at elsworth cambs. We were in the park ferme on practice day he was on the KX500, I had a cagiva 500 Dave actually came over to have a look at it and said how quick they were when he raced against them in Europe .Great champion top lad really friendly and humble posed for pictures autographs the lot a true highlight of my life to meet a legend Amen 🙏. Oh ps love the chanel always great content Respect 🤙
I watched him in Namur, Belgium. Holland, Spain, Italy. And at The Motorcross des nations in Valkenswaard.
Thanks for watching John! That so cool, i wish i could've been there for the heyday of the DT era. This was actually the first time i've ever seen him ride in person!
@@999lazer. I was an American stationed in Germany, met a Dutch girl. And stayed in Holland after my tour. Got to watch a lot of WC. And became good friends with Mike Healey.
2 times MXdn Gaildorf, 1985 + 1989, and, not sure right now, 1988 Northeim german GP? I could here him coming, 'cause, he reved the 500! We all loved it those days!
@@bertbroeder1832 was also at Gaildorf.
A legend. Smooth. I bought a new cr500 because of him. He stil makes it look easy.
Still looking and finding a fresh bit of dirt for that little bit of extra grip, old habits die hard hey DT
Thorpe is still a Rippa, one of my favorite GP riders
Good to see ya Angelo! Dave just makes it look so effortless, you never lose class i guess!
Great video max, he always seems so smooth on the bike, was very relaxing to watch move the bike effortlessly really looking forward to next project megladon episode, you're doing a great job.
Thanks Kevin, we're busy working behind the scenes filming the next episode, it wont be long
I was 15 when Thorpe took his first championship my hero back in the day I even remember watching him on tele grandstand I think ? God I feel old 😁
Thanks for watching Marty
He saw the old air-cooled Husky at the end and thought, "I could, but that would just be disrespectful."
Hahaha There were some seriously nice bikes at the track that day. Thanks for watching dude
@@999lazer I just have a special attachment because a 1982 Husky has been my regular bike for the last 15 years. Fantastic machine.
David Thorpe...just sumthing about his style..the way he gets the power down..the lines... Legend 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Happy days! A true legend, NOW THAT MAN CAN RIDE A 500CC BIG BORE ( i like to call it a big hore's) how's the build coming on lad?. Stay safe dude👊✊💨💨💨
Thanks for watching Andy. Dave makes it look so effortless! Build is coming on well, we are back at Chris's this week to film the next episode. Take care bud!
@@999lazer cheers buddy👍
What's gold about, he still got it and has the old school riding style, sick.
Epic stuff, Max. Dave Thorpe of yesteryear would have classed that 250 as a pit bike!
Thanks dude! I asked him why he chose the 250 over a 500 and he said he didn't want to spend all day trying to get the big girl started! lol
@@999lazer LOL, I knew that feeling once I hit 42-43yo, and that was with a RM250! I was riding a sort of hybrid hard/extreme enduro, and with no electric start it did me in. If I'd switched to an enduro bike with e-start, I'd probably still be riding today in my mid-50's.
Gonna go dust off the YZ and take her for a spin today. Thanks man!
Awesome. Enjoy it dude!
Fantastic max david ive been fan follower of davids since the 70s his school boy career and pro hes berkshire lad like me mate and saw him at his peak of powers against andre eric carla and the guys ill be fan forever made my day bud seing him on track again after all these yrs last time was in 94 at foxhill when he rode stephans gp bike at grand prix ard the track fabulous mate
Glad you enjoyed it Chris. I wish i could've gone to a British GP in DT's heyday. This was actually the first time i've ever seen him ride in person. It was a real privilege to watch
Loved it. Looks like the champ was having a great time. Greetings from America.
Thanks Guy, He definitely enjoyed the 2 stroke
Set the scene and imagine if it was filmed on a 4 stroke. Hopefully in 20 years we still have 2 stokes alive and well. Great to see a legend still smoking.
Amen to that. Let's hope so! Thanks for watching Jamie
Dave is so iconic what a day these boys have had. Looks great 👍
Legend 👏
Wow mate, you pull some great great moments. Where is this? I so wanna get big red around a track like this. Cheers Max.
It was pinch yourself stuff for sure...especially for Dad! This is Marshfield MX down Bristol way, it was Tom Church/ Mark Hucklebridge's old stomping ground. A lovely old school track, i think they still use it fairly regularly for practice days. Cheers mate!
I first saw the name Dave Thorpe from a MCN or MCM article on Dave's riding abilities school boy scrambling..and his 100 cc? Suzuki his dad built. Dave didn't grown much past 13!
No two stroke sounds better than a cr 250. Simplythe best
European tracks are always so cool they follow the natural terrain unlike most US tracks where they just make massive jumps.
Tune in next week 500 roosting by the great man ...hopefully:) 👍
The 87 cr500 is coming out next weekend
waoooo keren 👍👍👍
Thorpe has a pretty distinct tall guy mid corner roll thru where the inside leg is bent because he doesn't have to straighten it to reach the ground where as a short guy like geboers always had his leg straight
Nice ride champ ! Smooth and flying
Amazing, He just gets on a bike again and shows everyone out there how it's done!
Btw, It says CR350 in the description. That must be wrong, they wouldn't big bore that mint bike.
Thanks for watching and yep it is a 250 (amended the description - thanks for pointing out)
awesome video of mx hero thanks for posting
Thanks for watching Pauline :-D
2 strokes are best
Jeeez, the legendary Mr David Thorpe 🙌
Crazy to think I was 5yrs old when he won first World championship, and he can still rip and kick my ass every day of the week.
Love every minute I see of Thorpe on RUclips or elsewhere.
Max your always delivering the highest quality content. 👏
Bring on next episode of the 700cc 2t
Thanks Jamie, I really appreciate your comment
Fond memories of a Dave Thorpe school at Reading Supercross track riding a lap side by side 🤗
Can’t wait for the next instalment riding some old school 2 Strokes ...
Thanks buddy we've got some cool stuff coming so stay tuned:)
Just watching it I can smell the Motul and Amsoil oil gas mix, JUST LOVELY
Haha yes there was lots of nostalgic smells on the day when we were filming!
That was awesome ! Damn is he fast, smooth and controlled in them smooth hard pack turns. That 250 rips ! We need a video on that bike, how its setup and who did the suspension and engine and stuff. Thorpe still got it 🤙
Thanks Joe, we've got a few interesting videos coming up I think you'll like.
Blue smoke is no joke🤟great flic👍🏻
Thanks for watching
The man made his career on the 500s...of course he is going to put on a clinic on the easier to ride 250..
I asked Dave why he chose the little 250...he said he didn't want to spend the best part of the day trying to kick the big girl into life! haha
Watching these is pushing me on to finish resto on my 91kx250 and can’t wait to get it out and on the pipe 😎
Yess! Get her done mate, let us know when she's finished!
Thanks for the video, made my day.
Wow! Look at all those stones! Pity the fools behind ME! 😎
Haha Yep the roost wasn't fun at that track! Thanks for watching Tony
That track must be like a ice rink in the wet , terrible track
Awesome video. Fantastic to see Big Dave ripping it. Thank you for posting. That was a treat.
Thanks for watching Scott
He still makes it seem so easy to go really fast, so stylish so gracious no showboating just very effectively and super fast! The old man has still got it! I think you can still pick him out of the pack, just by looking at the way he rides his bike, still the best, still the Champ Dave Thorpe! 👍👍👍🏆🏆🏆
WHAT A LEGEND , HE WOULD STILL BEAT TODAYS TOP RIDERS.👊💪
Would love to see and hear him boosting a CR500 round Hawkstone again
I wonder how he fixed the forks?
Would be great to see a video about the bike.
Keep up the great videos.
3:55 turn right!!! Lol
Love the lines. Most competitive man alive. Just brilliant
he,s still got it it would have been nice to see him riding a 500 .
Pleasure to watch the legend that is thorpy , and he's still rapid 👏👏👏👏
Loved the vid wot a man for 1 man and wot a bike CR
good to see the beasts out on the track and not hidden in garages
I think you've become my favorite channel Max. Not just because of your content, I like your personality
Thanks for your kind words mate, i really appreciate the support :D Plenty more content like this on the way!
First!
You're always getting the holeshot! ;-D
@@999lazer nitrous
👍👍
Love how smooth he rides!
Where is this track ? Or is it a private one ?
It's Marshfield MX dude near Bristol, UK. I think they still hold the odd race meeting and practice day there
🤙
Thanks for watching Gary!
absolute class
Thanks for watching Derek! Class stays with you for life, as Dave proves here!
Nice day for it ⛅️
It was beautiful...probably the last one we had! lol Thanks for watching Rob
@@999lazer no worries mate , I enjoy it tbh , 👍
Great film, would have been nice to see him on a 500 🤩
Thanks for watching Martin. I asked him why 250 instead of 500 and he said he didn't want to spend all day trying to get the big girl started! lol And to be fair at 58 i think he wanted a nice relaxing ride :-D
you should have asked if he'd forgotten the knack to starting the 500 🤣 that 250 sounds as crisp as a bike fresh off the production line, what a beauty 🤩
He’s not the worlds fastest😂
He's nearly 60, back in his day he was 3x world 500cc champion. A living legend
He’s not worlds champion
He was though
Dont be a silly Billy, the dude is 58 yrs old.
Why does GB MX look rubbish compared to USA?? This track is flat.
What?! The track looks amazing fun, would love to ride there both with my old and new bike.
Matter of opinion , whenever I have been in the states the majority of riders are awesome on jumps but absolutely suck on flat turns , off cambers or any old school track conditions - horses for coarse’s , looks a great fun track to me and better than being sat on a computer !
Because its an AMCA track, its the UK's Ameture Motorcross Asociation
the organization doesn't really have a lot of funding and most of the tracks
are in farmers' fields, i think the only income they have is from membership
money from the riders. plus everything is green belt in the U.k with strict noise
pollution rules so there is only a few options where you can actually build
tracks mainly private land, etc etc. they do have some cool technical tracks
as well though its not all flat and easy like this one, its only novice level anyway
an organization to cut your teeth and work your way up to British GP level.
They have some fantastic pro tracks over there, Hawkstone park is a favorite
of mine. i went there in the 90's to watch a GP open day it was an Awesome
event. they were doing 30 or 40 laps and halfway through they would bring
out a safety bike rider who would bunch the whole pack up again for just one
lap and then let them race again after that. it was a fantastic day out.
