Not being able to solve any problems in skyrim without violence/wandering into a cave somewhere isn't its biggest writing problem. It's the story always being about you. You're the dragonborn, the leader of the thieves guild, the listener of the dark brotherhood, the arch-mage of the college of winterhold, and more.
It would have been amazing if you could help various npcs reach these titles. Maybe choose a companion from the students in winterhold, your favorite thief, your favorite member of the dark brotherhood, and help them become the [important person] of their respective faction. Or bring an outsider in and help them rise to power. Once this is done they can no longer be your companion because they have bigger fish to fry now, save for one or two quests where you go out and clear a dungeon together "for old time's sake".
Also add some fun word of mouth advertising. "who did you choose to be the listener?" etc.

@@lonestarlibrarian1853 Nah, In New Vegas you can speech your way to the top quite easily. It's almost encouraged, even. Speech checks are very frequent overall and besides avoiding battles they reward you with caps, supplies and reputation on top of that - and it also helps skip steps in many quests. Overall, speech is quite overpowered in FO:NV. Barter is useful sometimes but not as frequent, and speech is used more often to ask for better rewards on quests anyways.
On FO4 Speech doesn't really exist and is instead a part of Charisma. As it is, it increases settlement size, reduces vendor prices and increases the success rate for speech checks. Unfortunately speech checks aren't as common and very rarely do people go over 6 just to get Local Leader. A charisma of 11 is needed to have 100% success rate in hard checks, and it can be reached with chems (particularly grape mentats) and equipment. Its certainly not as powerful, partly due to the different system in FO4 as reputation doesn't exist, and writing became less extensive due to the main character having voice acting, unlike previous installments.

you just didn't have the right mods to make it fun.
this video is doing everything from vanilla, which is super tiring to be honest.
the best mods for a speech skill only playthrough would be, Ordinator perks, re-real estate, notice board, anyway, with using these mods within conjunction of another, you can make lots of money just using mostly speech, the real estate mod allows you to purchase any house, mine, store, farm, and make passive income on them.
of course you have to start kind of small, the cheapest homes in the game are in riverwood at $3,500 a home, but most houses depending on the location can range up from $5,000 - $25,000 and you make up that money in the form of rent and then onto shops can range up from $25,000 to $65,000 and temples can range from $100,000 to $1,000,000 all depending on location and what threshold settings that can be set in the MCM menu. oh, and mines can be used to hire minors so long as they don't have any bandits within then, they can be killed and then you can hire miners, but they range up from $50 to $100 a day, but you make up for it in the ores extracted from the mines.
i have done this playthrough at least a few times, because i love the idea of making your money work for you.
i like it, because it reminds me of assassins creed brotherhood with their minigame to make passive income, that was very well integrated into the story and gameplay.

that's true, they have been focusing on story only from one perspective for the game, and they for whatever reason forgot to add choices into the story, that's what makes it an RPG where you are presented with multiple choices, but i guess they chose to only have the multiple choices with everything else you do in the game like the class system.
but even that is set up to make it so you have the option to be good at everything, you can't just be a magic user, you can be good at your speech, but it's mostly based on player choice, so if you choose to play a certain way, you can, but you have to be your janitor and only pick and choose what to level up.
recently i was thinking of only doing a mage build where every time i level up, instead of picking more magica or health or stamina, that the option to upgrade these shouldn't exist, so instead i just choose to put it into my stamina because that doesn't really effect much outside of stamina, making the game still a challenge as i level up because my pool of both health and magica always stay the same, the difference is only found within my perks chose to use.
my theory is this will make it so i'm not too strong but also so i don't need to make the difficulty higher, the idea is that i always stay the same with my health and magic, but the perks will help lesson stuff like it takes less magic to cast spells when they are used so there is no need to put more magic in my pool because the perks help in that regard, i also don't want to be a spongy enemy and want to fight a little more realistic instead of tanking my way through everyone like normal.
goin back to the original topic, so the RPG elements still exist just not in the story, but everything else that you can do is provided that you have the choice to do what you want to do within the confines of the game's world.

I enjoy the thought of a traveling merchant with a super bodyguard going around Skyrim making absurd amounts of wealth.
Then later parting ways when the merchant can live out his dream and the super bodyguard must complete his destiny.
Perhaps one day they reunite and have some mead recounting tales of their adventures together?

I love the commentary on the game. It's a wonder how it got to be so popular sometimes, with it's award-winning roleplaying and totally-useful-definitely-not-worthless skills and perks.
I particularly like how there are virtually no persuasion checks in the entire game, and like 4 of those are impossible to ever succeed at - even with 100 speech and relevant perks...
I'd personally love to see more Skyrim videos if possible too.
