I never dreamed that I would love the Insider but I absolutely did, it had an emotional heart way beyond the fairly bland premise. Love Michael Mann's work, especially Heat, Collateral, The Insider, Last of The Mohicans. I'm annoyed with Seth Doane's questioning Mann if he feels any responsibility about violence in America because he makes violent movies. It's just such a cheap shot, cliché question for film directors. Mann answered it perfectly by citing the fact that his style of filmmaking is not gratuitous at all.
Mann is probably one of the most responsible, thoroughly researched filmmakers out there. This is well known. He doesn't do things for cheap effect. It's deliberately done with integrity because his style is to portray realism and authenticity. It's so lame when interviewers seem to want to provoke drama or elicit guilt in their subjects to sell their interview even if it's blatantly unwarranted. You might as well ask a Director if they feel responsible for all the corruption in the world because their films have a lot of corrupt characters. Lol. It's ridiculous.

Michael Mann's movies are about story telling, characters, creating atmospheres, bring the audience to places, cinema - and this in a very excellent way! "Heat" for example is a perfect film. You watch it and never forget it.

I always wish that I could know him. Hoping that a sequel for the movie Heat can happen, and I'm interested in the Ferrari project too, sounds intriguing, with his style it can be a magnificent movie!

Interesting that he admitted he didn't know L.A. that well like he thought so he rode with police calls on weekends and other things.......HEAT and Collateral showcase different areas of L.A. so much that the city was in a way a character in itself. Mann has a way with locations and that really puts you in the story when watching those films.

I like how Mann gives all of his movies short, succinct one- or two-word titles, and when he finally makes a sequel to Heat, does he give it a fancy subtitle or a new title? Nope. Just straight up Heat 2. I dunno why but it amuses me because it's simultaneously not what you'd expect from him but also perfectly on brand.

What kind of stupid question is that do you feel some sort of responsibility for violence extremely stupid . It’s because movies like these integrate violence people come to know about it and talk about it . Don’t be stupid and think for a single second that you can’t get robbed , mugged or shot at if that’s the case you don’t go out much or worse don’t even know your own city .
