Maybe it's just me, but I consider this to be one of the most romantic songs I've ever heard. Sounds like a man so desperately searching for someone to love. The major sense of loneliness, combined with a heart that is almost literally burning for the love of another. Man it's a hauntingly beautiful piece of music.
I'd be honored if some Dire Straits fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performance of ON EVERY STREET on my YT channel in tribute to the genius songwriting of Mark Knopfler. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital enhancements. Thanks and RESPECT to the legends.
Mark Knopfler may not have a large vocal range or be able to hit high notes but his voice is the most soothing voice I’ve ever heard and I could never get tired of it. It shows that you don’t need to have a clear or perfect voice to be able to create beautiful music and it gives me immense satisfaction and inspiration to know that.
Before I continue this song. I remember waking up in the morning hours and hearing a dear Lady playing this and it was symphony untouched. That Lady was my mother. I found her dead after coming home from work. I will NEVER forget this song. Nor her beautiful works in this life. Rest in Peace my Mother. Carole Lee McDonald. I long to see your face again Mom.
Look up Melancholy in the dictionary and this will be the definition. This song makes me long for all that has past. So beautiful. So perfect. Lyrics with a story and a message and perfect rhythm and beat. Thanks, Dire Straits
One of my favourite Dire Straits tracks, alongside Telegraph Road. Mark Knopfler, underrated genius with the guitar but also his songwriting. Favourite band of all time
@@jonathonhayman4221 He's simply a legend. A great. Humble but his guitar playing, story telling and record with Dire Straits speaks for itself, surely? Alchemy Live, Making Movies, Love Over Gold & Brothers in Arms plus the Mandela concert & Live Aid...nuff surely said. Makes a guitar speak.
@@richposports7030 completely agree, but my point is, the name Mark Knopfler is rarely heard when the discussion about greatest guitarists of all time comes about
Some people are born to be greater then others, Might never have heard Jimmy Hendrix, Neil Young or a few great others, But damn me if I will never ever forget Mark playing his guitar, slap me if I ever do.
I've been a fan of Dire Straits since I was 13, and I couldn't be prouder to have them in my life. They were one of those bands that managed to be consistent with their quality, while developing their unique sound with a range of instrumentation. Just when they were at their peak, they took a break to work on their last hurrah. They knew when to end while they were still good, because there's no way you could top a song like this one. There will never be a band quite like Dire Straits, I'll continue to admire Mark Knopfler and his group for years to come.
My favorite "outro" of any song. Second is Ric Ocasek's "This Side of Paradise." Give it a listen too. But this is incredible and like other commenters, I'd prefer it to me even longer.
Mind blowing, best live band in musical history, music today should take a look at this. This is the bench "Mark" for live performances. Today's musicians could learn a lot from MK and DS
It surprises me that their music hasn't stayed more popular than it has, since they split up! (Considering The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson....)
Come fa un brano a diventare una delle più belle canzoni, forse la più bella, dei Dire Straits? Semplice, ogni volta che lo ascolti ti suscita un'emozione diversa: eccezionale!
I've always loved how the percussionist starts out with a simple tambourine and ends up going wild with that bigass maracass. makes me laugh every time.
I loved it when I was young and single. I still loved it when I was a Mum. Now, as a grandmother I love the song, DS and Mark Kjopfler even more . I introduced both my sons to this music and they love it as well. I don't know if that makes me a great mother, but it does mean MK makes great music....
Paul Franklin's solos are fantastic...... just the best. Plays it straight in the first one......does all that Paul Franklin stuff in the second. I could watch this video all night.
Might be the best song to feature every musician in this amazing band. Listen to all the instruments, as if we, or anyone else, could get past MKs incredible solo. But then you appreciate the slide guitar, bass, rhythm and everyone including Chris White on sax.
I love this Dire Straits song, the one I like most of them, pure magic; please Dire Straits, come back to stage, your music is simply splendid, brilliant, wonderful, unforgettable, marvelous!!
Wow didire tu m'épates de plus en plus (j'ai absolument rien compris mais c'était bien) tu resteras mon didire pour toujours je t'aime... I love you so mush.
6:39 It was 23 years ago that I bought this album on cassette tape, and still remember (and expected!) that 'ding' from the little bell. Sooo fucking cool to see it actually... you know, Done!
I always listen to this song whilst packing to go on holiday to Cornwall. I always picture the song being played in our car with the windows down driving down the A30 preferably with sunny weather. Whatever the weather or situation this song is fab.
Music is supposed to bring out emotion, this 66 yr old American tears up every time I hears this song. The sun never sets on the English Empire, territory and music. Thank you for your music❤️❤️
God bless you Mark as you’ve given us so much more than you’re aware of. As long as I die with all of your music at my disposal, it’ll have been an extremely happy life. You are that important to me.
3:13 and 2019....still makes me chill and horripilation...when i was 12 years, dad told me that ''Play the music not the instrument''..now i understand...God Bless All Of You who made this legendary song..
No one can make a guitar sound so clear and perfect as Mark. This is one of Dire Straits best songs.
He makes his guitars sing !
Nancy Hover Morton And cry! 😂
So true!!!
@@nancyhovermorton7865 100%. Mark seems to get something out of his guitars that no-one else has unlocked.
but this solo is made by the hawaiian guitar not mark tho
Musical perfection.

Absolutely and the talent of a band to make those lyrics blend with perfect music. Pure bliss.
Favorite song of theirs. Beautiful song for sure.
If it's just you, it's me, too.
Beautiful said
And great memories too
Mark Knopfler is not only the finest guitarist ever, he is also a huge songwriter/poet. Love Peace and Light
He's just behind Gilmour in my opinion

"it's your face I'm looking for on every street" What a powerful lyric!
The interplay between the guitar and the pedal steel is the real sugar here.

Dire Straits put a mark on the history of music
Pun intended?
Let's say they put a "Mark" Knopfler on the history of music 🤪
This one is in my top 3 best songs ever made. Especially the steel lap solo keeps on blowing my mind.

It is the steel lap guitar that wins the solo award on this song.
Paul Franklin a Nashville player
Some people do not recognize greatness, my friend you do. The pedal steel is being played by Paul Franklin. He is the best at what he does...
@@DADSSTUFF When he was young and had his long hair!!!!
The great Paul Franklin laying finesse filled fills in this tune, then an awesome solo where he builds to a climax.

Regardless which song is playing.. Mark is the best storyteller and guitarist of the star system.
Two strokes of guitar and you feel his touch..
The most amazing instrumental build ever at 3:55 and you can see the grin on Marks face as he Knows! He has pulled it off!
Live on the night, best version. Pure Poetry!
Insane energy from the band, the venue, and the crowd. Perfect showmanship.
The last half of this song is always too short in my opinion
If you got the track in mp3 you can extend the second part using Sony SOUND FORGE 9.0 audio editor
