It's a shame Quebec City was never able to see this success. But again, the Patrick Roy trade was instrumental for that 96 Cup run, and the Habs would have never traded their star goaltender to its biggest rival.
That is interesting that the Nordiques would have lost him for nothing if they didn't trade him before the next year's draft. In MLB, if you can't sign your draft pick, that team gets a compensatory draft pick in the following draft in nearly the same draft slot.
In the NHL I believe with first round picks that arent NCAA players, you get a pick in the second round. It happened with the Wild and Filip Johansson this last draft.
I wonder if Lindros would have still held out if the league didn’t screw the Sharks out of 1oa. Could have been a real kickstart to the franchise without the personal beef
Eric looks like enemy number 1 but consider the NHL environment back then. There was no draft lottery. The Quebec Nordiques were the worst-run organization. Nobody wanted to play there. The Nordiques drafted 3, 1, 1, 1 and 4 in 5 consecutive drafts. There was no unrestricted free agency so if you were drafted by a bad team and you were an all-star player, you were stuck in that organization for a very long time. There was restricted free agency but that only meant the team that lost that player was entitled to compensation. That scared off teams from signing free agents. Looking back now, Eric just wanted to choose where he would live and work for the next 13 years.
No because then if they refuse to play for a team they have to accept a trash deal like the quebec did smh force him to play or ban him from the league if he wont play for you at least get revenge by banning him from the league forever id rather that then trade for teams who sill lowball me
The Rangers in 1991 reportedly had an offer of Sergei Nemchinov, Tony Amonte, Alexei Kovalev, James Patrick, the choice of Mike Richter or John Vanbiesbrouck, multiple 1sts, and $20 million U.S. For context, Nemchinov was a prospect, Amonte was a former 4th round (today would have been in the 3rd round), Kovalev was the 15th pick from the Rangers in 1991, Patrick was an established who was always in the neighborhood of 50-70 pts with the club, Richter has his # retired by the Rangers and would lead the club to the Stanley Cup in 1994, Vanbiesbrouck was a starting netminder. Combined with the picks (would have been the 8th, 24th or 26th, but draft picks are always magic beans) and the cash, it would have been a bigger trade than the what the Flyers gave up. At the time of the draft, Quebec made trades with Toronto to keep Toronto from giving up the pick that would have been Lindtos. So Quebec wanted the 1st pick, so they would not have made a trade at the time of the 1991 draft
@@thylacine519 this was the trade that the Quebec owner agreed to. That’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about before the 91 draft, did Quebec get any offers for that pick?
none that were serious. gm's knew nords were gonna keep pick and lindros wouldn't report to nords. that's why practically every team threw a trade offer out there in '92 trying to get lindros. rags tried to make a trade after the fact only to have arbitrator void that deal.
I remember thinking before that series the Blues had a big advantage with Forsberg out. And the Avalanche still won in 5 games. I was impressed that year the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup without anything from Forsberg the last 2 series.
This narcissistic selfishness led to him never winning a Stanley Cup. Had he stuck with Quebec he would have won atleast two. No idea why he would decide to go his entire career without actually winning a Stanley Cup. Isn't that the whole point ?
The rangers offer was better..amonte,Richter, weight, kovalev, 3 first round picks and millions in cash..thats why Abut went back to the flyers trying to bail on their trade and send lindros to new York..coincidentally it was Abut himself that was the reason lindros wouldn't go to Quebec. For a team that had some serious talent yet major financial problems really ended up winning that trade. If only lindros could have learned to skate with his head up,and if they flyers actually got a legit number one goalie it really could have been special
And yet after making two trades, Quebec didn’t get punished what so ever. In fact, the flyers traded two picks that day but were forced to select. Then, the arbitrator gave Quebec players and picks that weren’t in the trade.

In another twist of irony, Forsberg would later sign with the Flyers. Unfortunately for them, he was well past his prime.
That is interesting that the Nordiques would have lost him for nothing if they didn't trade him before the next year's draft. In MLB, if you can't sign your draft pick, that team gets a compensatory draft pick in the following draft in nearly the same draft slot.
Does the team still keep the players rights or does he become a free agent?
@@Amm17ar He goes back in the draft the next year.
In the NHL I believe with first round picks that arent NCAA players, you get a pick in the second round. It happened with the Wild and Filip Johansson this last draft.
Lindros got only one crack at the Cup only to have the Wings embarrass the Flyers in a sweep.
Bebe Lindros
Lindros never lived it down
I wonder if Lindros would have still held out if the league didn’t screw the Sharks out of 1oa.
Wrong.
A player should have the right to play where ever he wants
It’s bad for the sport, everyone would go to the same team and they’d never win
No because then if they refuse to play for a team they have to accept a trash deal like the quebec did smh force him to play or ban him from the league if he wont play for you at least get revenge by banning him from the league forever id rather that then trade for teams who sill lowball me
Before the 91 draft, what trade offers did Quebec get for the first pick?
@@Lawomenshoops I can't remember one as I don't think they would have listened
none that were serious. gm's knew nords were gonna keep pick and lindros wouldn't report to nords. that's why practically every team threw a trade offer out there in '92 trying to get lindros. rags tried to make a trade after the fact only to have arbitrator void that deal.
Shame he didnt keep his head up, going across the blue line against the Devils. He was never the same after Stevens hit
It's a shame Stevens was such a scumbag
Horrible trade for philly
the hockey gods cursed him and his lack of humble by giving him 0 cups and Forsberg two. (one he was injured for 3.75 rounds of the playoffs. GO AVS!
I remember thinking before that series the Blues had a big advantage with Forsberg out. And the Avalanche still won in 5 games. I was impressed that year the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup without anything from Forsberg the last 2 series.
He never won a cup
This narcissistic selfishness led to him never winning a Stanley Cup. Had he stuck with Quebec he would have won atleast two. No idea why he would decide to go his entire career without actually winning a Stanley Cup. Isn't that the whole point ?
@@thebrockman12 they won a few years later after being moved to colorado lol
@@thebrockman12 ur telling me Sakic + Lindros doesn't win a ring?
@@thebrockman12 exactly. Otherwise, McDavid and Draisaitl would be drowning in Cup rings
Oh yeah, screw lindros and his pretentious family. He got what was coming to him in the year 2000.
@@estellegrignon draisaitl is not on the same level as the other 3 to be completely honest. 1 zone player
If he had stayed with Quebec, he would have 2 cups in his career!!!
What did he do to earn a Hall of Fame induction?
Goof
He did hear about the story when he got jumped on the locker room for banging rod the bod wife
Not to mention he refused to play for SSM
And yet after making two trades, Quebec didn’t get punished what so ever. In fact, the flyers traded two picks that day but were forced to select. Then, the arbitrator gave Quebec players and picks that weren’t in the trade.
Dear Lindros,
Ha ha ha. Ha.
Sincerely,
Avalanche Fans
Well, Karma came for him, and he wore the number 4.
Well all that controversy for what Lindros at the time he was 19 so he was still in control by his parents.quebec was at the time was in separation to Canada so the Lindros family didn't want to go to quebec.why Eric Lindros took so long to say that he didn't want to play for the Nordiques that he like Marcel aubut after his retirement.so it took that long for Eric that excuse.. so sad.and he didn't even win a Stanley Cup.. what goes around comes around...
Why did he not want to play for the Greyhounds?
He wished he was the second Wayne
Connor McJebus can learn a thing or two from Eric Lindros about dodging an undesirable team when being drafted first overall
Peter Forsberg is better
Eric Lindros was always overrated... excellent player to be sure but not way up in the Superstar Heavyweight Class...Hell, he wasn't even the best player in that trade, Forsberg was...and by far...!!!
He was traded to NY Rangers first !!!!!!
it's hilarious the backlash when Lindros LITERALLY SAID HE WOULD NOT SIGN WITH THE NORDIQUES, specifically cause of conflict with head staff. AND he made it clear he didn't want to be drafted by them BEFORE they picked him.
Coward
Ok but that shouldn't be an option that the player has. What's the point in giving the lower ranked teams high draft picks if every high skill player just refuses to play there.
Unprofessional and childish behavior from an entitled brat.
@@dickbiggerjr3613 My against that would be: "Why should you reward trash management and trash ownership for being horrible?" If the player is willing to stick to guns, then he should be able to do it. It's also not always just the player. If you look at the NFL, the entire Manning family was involved with the entire Eli Manning saga.
@Benedict Chan not all bad teams have bad management! The league is trying to help those teams acquire top talent, which doesn't work if you have entitled players refusing to play.
@@dickbiggerjr3613 I don't get why you have to force really good players to toil away in bad situations. That's like forcing a really talented person to live in hell. That's why I don't blame players who take the option to force their way out. If you have leverage, then use it.
Lindros is the most stubborn hockey player of all time. In my honest opinion. It's like what my kids do when they get angry. Lindros just had bad teachings and teachers. But good hockey teachers don't get me wrong. He was good at hockey but that was it, just hockey.
Bad Teachings? Yeah god forbid him for not wanting to play for an organisation whose president was a known sex offender and made several advances on his married mother..

I like the subject of the video but the announcer high pitch enunciation of every 3rd word makes my ears bleed.

wtf this is just a rip off of secretbase. the vibe, the production. lol
I don’t know why but I’m not a fan of the host. Cool format though.
What's wrong with the host?
He waanted $$$ $$$ SO he went to America...bad choice
yeah Connor Bedard is giving me Lindros vibes to his Hype we shall see
Ok scout
Bedard is not going to hold out
@JZ34 It is always a possibility that he declares before the draft he will not play for such and such teams. Arizona hopes he doesn't as he's the only person in this draft who can get an arena built.
@@thylacine519 The Coyotes are getting that arena without Bedard its gonna get built
