Nice car! I run an 85 C10 short box with a sbc 400, Pro Topline Vortec heads, an Isky 292 Mega cam with old style RPM manifold, 3000 stall converter and Holley 800 double pumper with a 1 inch 4 hole spacer mounted on top of a 1" open spacer. Never took it to the track, but it will smoke the tires through first gear and half way through 2nd. Pins your ears beck good. I just drive it on the street on weekends. Lots of fun. Thanks for the video!!

It had a Coan 8" 4800 converter in it that was excellent to drive. He shifted it around 6300.

Im thinkin of building a 400 and putting stock vortec heads on it, what kind of cam can I put in it without having to put a stall in in it. But I want a rough idle too but this is going in a daily driver too, anything I need to watch out for.

I know this thing has one hell of a converter in it but its hard to believe a 3400# car can go that fast with unported vortecs .. what rpm did you shift at ?

Francisco Huerta are you asking what year 400 SBC? This was just your average 2 bolt 509 casting.

I know it's a little late, but was that 406 with 5.7 rods? I'm considering building a similar setup w/an 87 F body. Thanks for your time!

Dusty Beers yes, this was a 5.7 rod build as he found some used dome pistons I milled into flat tops.

Cool. How hard did he turn it? Any particular casting number head to stay clear of? I'm debating about where the redline shoud be for one of these. Just wanting to turn high 11's night after night (on pump gas would be nice, or e85)

Dusty Beers this had enough cam to make peak power around 6200, it was limited by heads. Rod ratio isn't the limit, it's how heavy parts are and how stable the skirt is. The 6" rod is better, with shorter skirt that stays in the bore, and has less weight. I did a similar 406 for '85 Iroc, but it had much smaller cam, 12:1 on E85 that went 11.60@117mph with a 2.73 gear. He had it down to 3100lbs.
