As an atheist I agree. Though I don’t think it’s really as much of a sacrifice as it seems. he seems happy. Clearly he’s getting something out of it that to him is at least close in value to what he gave up. And it really does kind of comport with our best scientific understanding of what leads to happiness and life satisfaction.
Possessions and wealth don’t lead to much happiness. Inability to feed yourself leads to unhappiness but after you are meeting your basic needs more money doesn’t help. What really helps is developing meaningful connections to others, helping others, a sense of purpose, and feeling proud of the life you're leading. Each of which his life gives him in abundance.

My late Grandfather entered the church at 14. He was a priest for over 10 years, upon which he took a job as a teacher and met my grandmother (who was engaged to another man) who was also a teacher at the school. They formed a beautiful friendship and he went against his family's wishes and left to be with my grandmother. Until the day he died in 2018 (at 81) he remained committed to his faith and helped so many lives. He is remembered in love and even though he was an amazing brother, his whole life was still devoted to God and Catholicism and his family. The love him and my granny still share is holier than anything I know. This was a great video to watch!

How can Jesus loved a woman only in thoughts or mind when He Already plan to Spiritual marry us ALL before we exist. He already plan us to marry us ALL before he is born through Virgin Mary. @@lavander961 I would like to add something so that others arent led astray. In Catholic teaching, it is not sinful or lustful to think that a man or woman is beautiful. It becomes sinful when you see them as simply an object of pleasure. See (CCC) paragraph 2351. Due to the incarnation, God became man, and Jesus is fully man and fully God. Becuase he is fully man, he experienced the emotions of humanity. John 11:35 states that Jesus wept over the death of Lazarus. In Luke 22:44 Jesus is in agony over the thought of his passion and asks the Father to let the cup pass from him if it is His will. Sorrow and fear are human experiences that aren't intrinscally evil, and so is attraction. Therefore, it is possible that at some point during his life, Jesus felt attracted to a woman. However, since Jesus is sinless, he would not have veiwed her as a object of pleasure but as a beloved daughter of the Father. God Bless!

I think thats something that is beautiful about humanity; there are some of us called to romantic love and families, and some that are called to help humanity. Both require sacrifice: having a family sacrifices personal freedoms for the sake of caring for your family, and those called to be alone sacrifice personal freedoms in order to care for society and community. Neither is less or more

He Is a Real One… the little tidbit of meeting the woman of his dreams and choosing to be by himself lovesick for a month with fantasies in his head and just Deal with it because the call for service was stronger than the call for romance etc.. plus he’s young.. that’s solid that’s when you see there is inherently something very sincere inside the person. Not for everyone but when you got the calling and are sincere it’s nice to hear about it. God bless you brother

l agree, we are all nothing and have nothing, with out the Lord Jesus Christ.
Even the job, l may have is because of his mercy, and generosity on me.
Absolute obedience is a hard one, l think. But what helps me, is to ask yourself, what would Christ do? Also prayer, and the power of it.🙏
Giving to the poor those who have less than myself, l believe teacher's me to not be greedy, or selfish with what has be freely, given to me by my wonderful creator.
As for chastity, just like everything else it's a choice.
No one forces you to keep it. But when you do, you see what a wonderful gift it truly is.

@Acroselorator it comes from the Latin word paganus or patriam, meaning country.
However it basicly is an umbrella term for anyone who does not follow the Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity, or Islam.
Most frequently it means anyone who follows one of the natural Indo-European folk religions.
To dumb it way down: We who call ourselves Pagans believe in Odin, Thor, Zeus, Iupiter, or the Dagda than and the respective pantheons of those Gods more than we do in Yaweh, Yeshua, or Allah.
which is what makes it so weird this video showed up for myself and the original commenter.

@@cherylcrozier-garcia8862 The Mass feeds us all, Cheryl. No priest or bishop or even the pope should stand between you and the promise made to you by Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, some priests (and I presume deacons) do not realize how hurtful their words can be. On behalf of that priest, I would like to apologize to you. Pick a new parish and re-join the mystical Body of Christ in the Mass. That's where we belong as Catholics.
And thank you for your kind wishes. You are in my prayers, as well.

@@deaconbilcarter5210 Thank you for your apology, which I am happy to accept and gobsmacked to hear.
Please understand: I know the catechism and the theology, and I believe most of it, including transubstantiation. But when Ive attended Mass, I get nothing. The Bible lessons are good and once in a blue moon there's a homily that isn't a waste of time and oxygen, but for me, the rest of the liturgy, no. I'm not trying to offend, but I don't even find it compelling as performance art. I prefer to support the faithful by not bringing my negativity into their space. I respect what I was taught and don't want to ruin anyone's sense of belonging, but I don't share it.

Thank you for being so open and frank about your vows. You answered a lot of great questions for future priests and brothers and simply curious lay people. I believe the word "poverty" might throw a lot of people off as it doesn't seem like the reality of your vow matches the connotation most people have in their minds of what poverty looks like. When I hear "poverty", my mind immediately goes to an image of destitution and desperation. A life where you don't know if you'll have a roof over your head next next month, and you may or may not have food on any given day. A life where one has exactly zero discretionary income. The life you are describing sounds more to me like a blending of detachment, minimalism, and communal living. I feel the terms wouldn't be so confusing if they were more illustrative of the lived reality.
