    This is one of the few kits that when the guy does each tom individually, even the final hardest hit doesn't choke out and kill the tone. Very impressive.

    Noble & Cooley's "Vintage" description is not in reference to 1950's Ludwig or Gretsch drums. Rather go back decades prior to find American drum manufacturers often making horizontal grain walnut and maple drums. That is the "vintage" sound that N&C is referring to.

      I am blessed enough to be an N&C Owner (of the CD Maples) and nearby to the N&C Factory. Recently went there and played one of these kits, and the KICK was the standout to me as well - sounded pretty much Exactly as you hear here - one of the most "character" filled kicks I've ever heard - so good!

    Oh, I love walnut drums. Hard to get that fat warmth with other woods - only Bubinga can hold up maybe. Great for big pop and rock ballads. Using clear batter heads and tune them up a bit more and you‘ll get best of both worlds- big drums tuned high, the Bonham effect. 😎😍 What a stunning sounding kit.

    such a great drum set. But I can't understand why they still build these sizes. There are so many examples that a 14x14 and a 16x16 doesn't work so good in tonal development as a shorter depth. Also the same depths of the two rack toms might look any aesthetic, but physically the shouldn't have the same depth........

    • @cbaum64
      @cbaum64 5 лет назад

      I completely agree with this sentiment, I’m absolutely baffled that manufacturers haven’t started regularly producing 14x10 and 16x12 floor toms. The tone would substantially increase and so would the punch. I guess we’ll just have to wait 40 more years :/

    • @musshwins412
      @musshwins412 5 лет назад +2

      you are not alone. the toms look aloof to me on this kit. I also believe shallow depth makes for a drum with more tuning options. IMHO a drum should be at least 2" smaller than its circumference. I have a 14" x 12" floor tom that can be felt in the chest.

    • @GregVasso
      @GregVasso 4 года назад +1

      N&C Builds to order - so.... this is as they were ordered. Any kit is fully custom from the word go - you want 14 X 12, you got 14 X 12 - nothing is stock at N&C - all custom

    £5,000? A bit wanky, eh? To be honest, it sounds like my kit that I pieced together from random used drums (many times cheaper than this kit). I'd be a buyer in the £500 range, NOT BLOODY £5,000.

  • @razgriz380
    @razgriz380 5 лет назад +1

    Sounds superb and no doubt has incredible build quality and possible resale value, but there is no way that any brand can justify the best part of 5 and a half grand for a 6 piece kit and snare. That's astronomical.

    • @dancalabrese3523
      @dancalabrese3523 5 лет назад +3

      That price is no higher (and maybe less) than comparable Sonor and DW kits. I've been to the Noble and Cooley factory and when you see how the drums are made it's understandable why the prices are at this level. These are handcrafted instruments.

    • @razgriz380
      @razgriz380 5 лет назад +1

      @@dancalabrese3523 I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. While I completely acknowledge that these are superb and handcrafted instruments they are not unique. There are numerous offerings from the likes of the Tama star line drums which are handcrafted in Japan and have comparable sound characteristics and sell for around £3000, then you have the likes of Gretsch and Ludwig who's US made kits are handcrafted and have sublime sound, and arguably better history and lineage as they too have a similar establishment age to N&C yet have had a great deal of iconic players who have endorsed and used them for their whole careers, N&C don't really have that accolade, and they sell for around the £3000 mark also. You also mentioned Sonor who's prolite kits are easily in the same league as N&C and can be had for less, so I don't believe that N&C have enough of a reputation above these other iconic brands, or the ability to claim better build quality than these brands to demand such a premium. To each their own of course and price is relative but it does seem like snobbishness more than reason that's dictating the price.

    • @dancalabrese3523
      @dancalabrese3523 5 лет назад +2

      @@razgriz380 Your certainly entitled to your opinion as I am mine. There is no right or wrong. All the brands you mentioned (and I've owned all of them over the years except Tama) are great in their own right. But Noble and Cooley and over the years established their own niche and have been responsible for some great innovations that other companies ( Yamaha and Sonor among them) have copied. And Ludwig went to Noble and Cooley to build a solid shell snare drum for them for The Drum Center of Portsmouth's ten year anniversary. I think that says a lot. So sorry, but they are unique in their own right. Certainly no one is forcing you to buy their drums. I'm 61 and have been playing for nearly 50 years. I am purchasing one more kit in my life. Having looked at all my options I'm choosing to make that kit a Noble and Cooley. Take care.

    • @razgriz380
      @razgriz380 5 лет назад

      @@dancalabrese3523 I agree with you, there is no obligation to buy their product and I'm not suggesting that people will feel that the prices aren't justified if they have deep pockets but for me what you are using to define 'unique' wouldn't be what I would. It's hard to say any brand is unique really as there are only so many ways you can make a solid or ply shell and add hardware to, now admittedly N&C did invent the nodle point that Yamaha adopted and other innovations used under licence by other brands but every single brand borrows from others, N&C are just as guilty. Ludwig may have gone to N&C to make them a shell, I'm not familiar so can't comment, but that could be for many reasons. They don't have the tooling and it's too expensive for a small batch run, they didn't have the craftsmen available, the materials etc etc. I don't think it says all that much about outsourcing to N&C personally, however I'm not doubting their expertise and quality as I have looked over and played a kit of theirs myself. I'm simply stating you can buy another branded kit of the same or near quality with the same kind of heritage and innovation history for significantly less. If N&C float your boat and you have the pockets to pay for them then great but I personally cannot see the price justification just because of the name printed on the head. Thanks for the debate.
