    Man I farm 1200 acres, I literally tremble watching you take the time out in the field to explain things in a classroom setting. I only stop to relax when I have my crop sprayed with a 50 foot boom. Which is more than adequate for me. I also have cattle so my haying is your down time, wait you have no down time. Lol., I do have relaxation time. I’m big enough I find watching you guys.

    You got that right about cleaning up weeds. Even tho you spray it you dont get all of them, some sprout later, some dont get burnt off and you miss some that get to seed.
    Then there is nature beeing equally productive for all plants, birds and wind spread seeds and you spread the seeds with a combine at harvest. So yeah, there are allways some weeds and if not taken care of you get alot of weeds next season.
    You can cultivate for weeds, but not in Mike's climate, losing too much moisture with that.

      from what i have seen here in germany its pretty much heavy mechanical weed clearing
      so heavy tillage before seeding while useing cover crops and a denser population to cover the weeds faster to choke them from the sun
      and before the canopy closes you often see some form of harrow in use, theire even computer controlled implants that can move independed from the tractor to just work between the rows
      so pretty much all things that cant work for the ground mike is showing, especialy considering the size of the fields
      here i see it only on smaller fields, all the bigger fields are conventional (bigger fields in my region are 1x1km or bigger)
      just think about the man and machine houres needed for big fields without accounting for wear and erosion problems

    • @notpoliticallycorrect4774
      @notpoliticallycorrect4774 3 года назад

      The idea is that organic has lower input costs and higher valued crop. But they have lower yields and have a greater impact on the soil. Like Mike said, it must be losing its appeal if people are getting out of it. Generally it is the older traditional type farmers that are organic, so it might be that they are getting to the age to retire, and sell out, even if they were profitable.

    Geez, The numbers for your farm are probably hard to comprehend. For instance, I wonder how much fuel it takes to operate for a year! Or, how much your chemical costs are? Just thinking about it makes me kinda nervous.

      @bahnsteigkantee5937 3 года назад +1

      he said that the chemicals are between 10 to 30 Dollars per acre thats like 400000 to 1,2 mio Dollars just in chemicals

    • @notpoliticallycorrect4774
      @notpoliticallycorrect4774 3 года назад

      Same cost per acre across the board as smaller farms. Just multiply by the number of acres.

      @@bahnsteigkantee5937 That is just for the in crop weed control. They likely average 3 sprayer passes per field per year, and more if they have disease pressure in the pulses.

    Mike, why not go to bulk totes for liquid herbicide? Less packaging and would it be cheaper per gallon?

    • @mikemitchell2554
      @mikemitchell2554  3 года назад +2

      It's not cheaper no.. The biggest incsm get is 115L barrels and then I still have to add jugs.. So it doesn't make sense for us

    Do you know how many years that field was organically farmed? Seems like their weeds were getting out of control with that system.

    I see on other comments that the modified tank may be 2400 gal. Doesn’t that make his warranty about as worthless as used toilet paper?

    How stable is that sprayer at 40 mph? With most of the weight so high, it looks like a disaster in the making, at 40 mph. Yes, I know the wheelbase is wide, but still ...?
