I worked in a coffee shop and there was a gentleman that came in every single day in a nice perfectly fit suit,(he loved blues and browns) and a different fedora style hat. He was easily my favorite customer. Never came in not looking perfect, in a world of drones, he figured out how to stand out.... and get free coffee from me 😅
That hat brotherhood thing is actually very nice :D .Can lead to friendships or even a new way to networking. Also, you can tip your hat when you encounter a woman you like who also wears a hat in a outdoor bar or sth.Hats should make a comeback!
I started making flatcaps a few months ago. When I wear them I find that people treat me more respectfully and clerks call me sir. Was entering a building today with the flatcap on and a young man coming through from the other side, moved aside and said, "Come on through sir." Very noticeable difference. Your video is right on!
Along that line, while I may not always have my flat cap on, when I fly or ride Amtrak I always dress business casual. I believe I then get more respect when dealing with air and train crews.
Finally! Flat caps are getting the respect they deserve. I own about 2 dozen mostly from Kangol that I rotate seasonally. So many styles and colors to go with any sartorial choice. Been wearing them daily for many years. Baseball hats are for children and baseball players, all else is for the dapper man.
Hey Antonio, I feel so validated by this episode of RMRS. I spent years mourning the demise of the hat and the hijacking of sartorial gentry by grunge types who have equated practicality with laziness and disdain thus butchering the beauty, skill, and art of traditional gentlemen's style. Thanks for striking one for the silent but sartorially more profound minority. Not sure the flat cap does it for you but you look killer in the Panama or Trilby. My collection consists of summer and winter Fedoras, Trilbys and flatcaps and as long as we are able to accessorize without flashing (after all, the clothes don't wear us; we wear the clothes), life is good and balanced. Great episode. Cheers - P
I worked at Goorin for years and that’s when I found my love of hats, now I rarely leave the house without one, they are always in style and I feel you have to have some real style and confidence to pull it off well ❤ take the plunge, you will be glad you did 👍
I have been wearing a flat cap for three years every day, I don't leave the house without one, all seasons. Very good starting headwear for young people too.
Im 15 and I'm starting to get interested in flat caps. I've got one at home but my friends say that I'm embarrassing myself and them 🤣, and that's why I never wore it again. I would really like to wear but i don't have confidence to wear flat caps :(
@@milang393 Once a dude tried to steal my flat cap, when I took it back, he started a fist fight, i got myself pretty little scar at the lip but i still have my cap and he's my mate now - of course you will stand out and attract unwanted attention, your ability to pull the style off depends completely on your self-confidence, no garment will make you a proud man if you don't act proud and manly, you can just submit to pressure and wear street wear it's no sin, no amount of intention, thoughts or words is worth anything if you don't enact it in reality, in body. But I hope you will find the strength to make the traditional style your own. Having gotten bald in my 20s, I became a baseball cap guy for a decade, which I hated. Discovering flatcaps has been a game changer! I finally could look elegant and mature from spring to autumn.
I really like the video. I’ve always worn a hat because I like them and they’re functional. So I’ve always been the hat guy for several decades! I agree with all the points you made. Also, as a historian, hats have always been integral. For me they still are!
I wear a Western/outback hat almost all the time. It's a style I found worked for me, how I dress, and how I present myself. It's different, no doubt. Ain't too many fellas out there rocking a leather cowboy hat. But... It gets noticed. It gets compliments. It's iconic, and people love it. Strangers on the street, folks working at the shops, coworkers, etc. all love it and comment on it. Every now and again you gotta be prepared for someone who's gonna give you a funny look or crack what they intend to be a mean joke, but that's fine 'cause it ain't gonna be for everyone. It ain't gotta be for anyone other than me anyhow. A nice hat will absolutely get attention.
As a guy who has been wearing hats everyday for 5 years (a combination of newsboy, flat cap, wide brim fordra) I would agree with much of your experience. Although I would still recommend combing your hair a bit even if you are wearing one since otherwise it can be a little deshebold when you take it off. (Such as: when your sitting for periods in a restaurant/pub, meeting in a more formal environment, at chapel, and etc). It also redistributes the oils in your hair which is good for scalpe
Great hat! I have a few Goorin hats. Been wearing hats for 20+ years and am definitely known as the hat guy. Keep collecting and wearing I think you could be part of the hat brotherhood.
I was given an Akubra hat, as a gift a few years ago and I love it. Seem's my friend noticed that modern cowboy style suited me down to the ground, and with thanksgiving in mind; I'm grateful for all of that and these videos.
I, myself use a flat cap each day got into the style this early summer. And you do get alot of compliments and respect. Not to mention eldery people approach and repsect you much more, because they don't think i am that annoying 20 yr old with a long normal gangster cap and no life. But i do like this style and it fits me. I am 20 years old wear this cap with normal jeans and a thin denim like jacket with a polo shirt underneath, wich makes the look of a manor house owner i think the word is. it's just a nice country style however i must say flatcaps are useless at stopping sunlight because they're short. where normal longer caps easily blocks the sun, from getting in the eyes while driving or walking.
What a unique video Antonio!!! This is by far the best video I watched from Real Men Real Style in 2020. Glad to see that you brought value & importance to the flat cap. I intend to purchase a couple of flat caps that can be worn for the summer since I live in a tropical country. Glad to see that you went all the way to Atlanta & getting along with your old friend, alpha m!!!
Thanks for the great video giving a worthy shout out to the hat wearer. I know you have touched on this a few good videos in the past. Good on you for trying something new and it does look great! I agree with all that you said. The flat cap is becoming fashion forward in it's own ironic way. I have rocked two different flat caps for years now and I rarely leave the house without one. You can also use subtle pins, etc. to customize your look/shout out to a brotherhood or groups you belong to.
Bought my first 3 flat caps (navy blue, dark grey and black), started wearing them yesterday. Im 30, tought I need some acc. peaces which stands out for a younger guy like me. In colder days a flat cap looks great with a coat and a rollneck. 😊 In warmer days I have my beanies from Denmark 🇩🇰🤍🫶🏼
Do it! I started balding in my 20s and became a baseball cap guy for a decade. I transitioned to flatcaps and it feels so much better! Mature and classy.
Thank you for a fun video! I like hats and caps, yet prefer caps because they don't react to wind gusts and can be folded and pocketed when necessary. Please do a video on (hat and)cap etiquette. I feel caps are more acceptable for indoor wear (meaning I'll wear a cap to comfort my bald scalp from air conditioning) than hats. I'd like to see your authoritative take on the matter.
As a teen boy I used to wear my grandpa's flat cap spending months in a village. Loved it. Then a beret in my 30s. Definitely one day..be back to hats.
I definitely need to amp my hat game, maybe even customize a few. Already told the cap head vibe to kick rocks, its now time to slide on the gent’s hat. Most definitely thank you for this video!
Ladies love the classic hats. No matter if it is a flatcap, newsboy, panama, fedora.. women find it very unique and interesting sight in today’s age. They instantly think of the 1920’s gentlemen, and I think that is a great association!
Another cool things with flat caps is that you can give off different vibes depending on how you wear it. Have it a bit tilted for a fun and slightly mischievous vibe, tilt it up wearing it a bit further back gives a nice carefree look, or draw it down over your eyes for a more menacing bad boy look.
I'm 76 and have been wearing flat caps for 30 years (got my first one in Ireland). I like them and am aware of the hat brotherhood. I've also got a nice fedora I like, but in this day and age, high-backed seats in cars mean I need to take it off while driving. Also, hat racks are rare so when I go into a building I often have no convenient place to place such a relatively large hat. As a result, I don't wear the fedora as much as I'd like. My wife is one of the rare women who continues to wear hats and she always gets compliments. Also, since she's short, the hat helps me find her in a crowd!
I wear hats all the time! I wear cowboy hats and Trilbys with casual clothes I wear felt hats, fedoras and homburgs with formal clothes and suits I wear panama like hats at the beach I LOVE HATS! I am thinking about getting one like the Irish hat you wear, what can I match it with? What works best for it? It looks to me it is on the casual side and more for late September to early spring
Great hat Antonio, I have two hats that are a similar style! And what's funny is most guys worry and cover their head if their bald, I don't worry about that too much! Also there's a guy in my school who always wears a tricorner hat.
I also have two flat caps for the casual days on Fall and Winter, two Panama hats for the Spring and Summer, four fedoras on brown, light gray, charcoal and navy for when I wear more formal attire, been thinking on getting a Top hat for the black tie events How does the tricorner hat looks in real life? Can it be brought back on or it is a piece that belong past? You kinda got me curious in the tricorner with your comment
@@11shiroineko I think it could if enough people brought it back, but if not, it might have to be combined with other hats. So maybe like a, not sure what it's called but a cowboy hat and the tricorner combined might be pretty interesting. Just for pieces of designs combined, not physically wearing both. And by the way, that is a very impressive hat collection you have going on for you. I do not have nearly as much hats, but you make it up for the both of us. A top hat could work for you by the way, I don't see why not. :) ~Gabriel Paige
I guess you watch videos from this channel because something in you after all does want to stand out. And why not? Why be "the others" who already exist? Don't be afraid of failing! Becoming sure of what you want and what to do for it is a process and no one will tear you apart if you make "mistakes". You can stand out in a positive, memorable way, and then you could experience that doors open, which otherwise remain closed, just because you did it.
The next time I go to the city, I'm planning on getting a new dress hat and leave my current fur felt hat for every day use in the winter. (I have a straw hat for the summer.) I'm thinking about a Stetson Open Road. I don't wear my flat cap very often -- mainly if it is cold and windy enough to give me troubles with a western hat.
Funny, i bought one 3 weeks ago because i wanted to try something new and i love it. It fits my style i also noticed how peopel are looking at me especially girls it must have a gentlemens touch i guess. Greetings from Austria.
I don't have to worry about my hair while wearing a hat, either. If I don't keep my hair short, it acts a bit like a lubricant and makes it highly susceptible to being blown off in the wind. One thing that I have noticed is that I seem to be more approachable while wearing a hat. One woman having car trouble last year chose me out of a large number of people to ask for help. And one of the greatest looking woman I've seen in a long time walked around taller people in a store to ask m e to help her get something off of a top shelf.
I always wear a hat. Flat hats for windy or inclement weather and mostly in cooler weather, although I have a couple of light ones for warm weather. Felt fedoras when it’s cooler and not windy. Panama style straw in hot sunny weather to help keep the sun off my head and face and off the tops of my ears. And, yes, get lots of compliments. And, yes, the hat brotherhood is a very real thing.
Antonio is actually right. I tried it on myself with a hat I bought here in Ireland that complimented my suit, shoes, tie, trousers etc very well. I've gotten compliments, looks from people, and people have said that I look like Indiana Jones and Michael Jackson..
5:20 Alpha actually looks great with the flat cap on. He always talks about not wearing hats because of his ears but I'll give an exception to when he's pairing it with glasses. He pulled it off!
I love hats! I wear one all the time. I wear hats the compliment, and accent, my outfits. I get a lot of compliments on my hats. And, yes, in my family, I am the hat guy! I got 3 flat caps from Italy that I absolutely love.
You look great in the hats, Antonio, particularly the newsboy flat caps, which have a bit more volume and they compliment your face shape better. I also wore my flat cap when I traveled to Atlanta from Wisconsin a few weeks ago. I'm wearing it in my profile RUclips profile photo, actually. Cheers buddy.
Love my flat cap I even wear one at work all day. Recently when I've posted stuff off to guys on yt I pop one in the box and it's great to see one of their videos wearing it 👍
OK, I wear a "Christies" flat cap every day. I'm a Brit and grew up in "Hat Town" UK.... Stockport, Manchester. Why do I wear a Christies cap? Because my Grandfather worked there around 1930-1970. Christies was one of many Stockport Hat companies and now it's just the "Hat Museum". I bought the traditional cap as a tribute to my Grandfather and I love it. It's smart, it's warm, it's practical. Note. The Stockport Football Team are called "The Hatters", as are Luton, another English Hat Town ... When everyone wore a hat.
I'm from the City of Veracruz and there most Accountants, Layers, Goverment Staff, Businessman or Profesionals wear Linen Guayaberas on their everyday, so as a Profesional from Veracruz I wear my classy Linen Guayaberas to the office in Mexico City while most wear their Average Poliester Suits 🤙🏼
I love cowboy hats but if you aren't outside alot and need the protection, the flat cap still gives you style, easy to wear in a car or one a plane and definitely a couple steps up from the ball cap.
I used to be a hat guy, wore a fedora style Stetson but it was too unique. Now I wear caps and beanies, I just don't have the face for a flat cap. Side note, I used to chat a lot with a guy who ran a hat stall and actually teach him about different types
I really like these hats and by watching your video I am inspired of planning to buy a black hat they look very great to wear. I been wearing my LA Dodgers for years and now I am planning to retire it to wear one of these.
I have lived in tropical climates for over 50 years and now live in Arizona. I see my skin oncologist regularly thanks to many benign skin cancers so my face looks like a patchwork quilt. I regularly wear a nice tan Stetson straw cowboy hat to protect what is left of my wimpy Irish skin. Surprisingly, not all that many folks wear cowboy hats around town but if you can't wear a nice cowboy-style hat in Tucson, where can you? I do get a lot of compliments on it and it's fun to wear a different style hat from the usual common ball cap.
I like this video, I have it in my mind to buy a flat cap or a hat so this topic is very hot for me now. It is nice to see that other dudes starts doing it too, but I noticed something, namely that you are wearing, I thing a little bit thick material cap, with a short sleeve and it can be a little like "why you need to wear something on your head that is heating you, and at the same time you are cooling yourself with short sleeve", but I totaly understand your excitement about other adventages resulting from wearing a cap. So it is only my little remark about this little detail. Enjoy your cap and wish me good buy :)
Excellent video...I M leaving my house right now..wearing a gray fedora....have to run a few errands..I am always wearing a hat....wearing a hat transformed Walt Frazier to clyde..the hat was a borsalino..peace..
Im 55 and i started wearing a hat at the age of 3 or 4 and had one on since mostly a high quality cowboy hat but i do sport a fedora from time to time 😊

How does the tricorner hat looks in real life?

I have a flat cap lying around for like 4 years now, not having the confidence to wear it, as I don't like to stand out. Maybe I really should try it.
Dude rock that shit. I have about 30 hats
When Aaron Marino wore the hat backwards,he was like Micheal Scotts character Date Mike
I was going to say Pete Nice from 3rd Bass or the one dude from Color Me Badd.
The next time I go to the city, I'm planning on getting a new dress hat and leave my current fur felt hat for every day use in the winter. (I have a straw hat for the summer.)
I'm thinking about a Stetson Open Road.
Jesus, I’m a 25 year old flat cap wearing man and I hope that happens to me 😂
I always wear a hat.
I recently started wearing paddy caps and it is wonderful
Antonio is actually right. I tried it on myself with a hat I bought here in Ireland that complimented my suit, shoes, tie, trousers etc very well. I've gotten compliments, looks from people, and people have said that I look like Indiana Jones and Michael Jackson..
5:20 Alpha actually looks great with the flat cap on. He always talks about not wearing hats because of his ears but I'll give an exception to when he's pairing it with glasses. He pulled it off!
Can you tell tell where i can get the exact flat cap your wearing in this video love it!
Best hat video by far. Liked and subbed.
Good looking cap , I'm switching to flat caps
You are my favourite RUclipsr you deserve more subscriber.
YUT!!!!! Awesome video sir! Semper fidelis
I've worn a flat cap since I was an undergrad in university. In this part of the world it makes you stand out. Even in the teaching world.
You should do more vids on caps mate. Lots of men will / would wear them.
I bought a really cheap hat made of paper in summer. Still, I got many compliments! As soons as it gets warmer, I'm wearing it again
I’ve been wearing a Baker Boy hat for about a year now and get loads of compliments, the series Peaky Blinders helped promote these caps
That part that your friend yanked your hat and you told him to vamooze is very funny!😆👍👍
I love caps, primarily newsboy caps. Its a classic look, so I believe it should be worn with a collared shirt and boots or oxfords.
Where can you buy flat caps? I thought about buying one online but I'm not sure what size to buy.
I love cowboy hats but if you aren't outside alot and need the protection, the flat cap still gives you style, easy to wear in a car or one a plane and definitely a couple steps up from the ball cap.
By the way, that cap looks really good on you.
I used to be a hat guy, wore a fedora style Stetson but it was too unique. Now I wear caps and beanies, I just don't have the face for a flat cap.
Side note, I used to chat a lot with a guy who ran a hat stall and actually teach him about different types
started rocking a flat cap keeps my head warm looks good
I think I'll break away from my usual ball cap and go with something more classic. Great video Antonio!
Also.... AARON! WHAT'S UP ALPHA?! 😎
I have a flat cap, and a trilby my favourites
Great video for guys who hesitate to wear a hat!
I really like these hats and by watching your video I am inspired of planning to buy a black hat they look very great to wear. I been wearing my LA Dodgers for years and now I am planning to retire it to wear one of these.
I have a dark herringbone wool scally that compliments my mid gray herringbone tweed sportcoat. It's a great look and easy to pull off.
Plan to get one of those flat caps & newsboy hat.
Great video. Loved it!
I'm the guy in town who wears the hat. I have a Stetson, a trilby, the newscap, a bowler, and several others. I love my hats.
I have worn hat’s for many years (I have 12+) and for me it feels right.
Nice Video Antonio 👍it ❤️it.
If I may ask. Where did you acquire the flat hat in the video?
Can u tell where got the hat you have on in this video love it!
I’ve been considering swapping my caps to a flat cap … just to change the look a little
I wear a hat with my suits often, I’ve been surprised how many compliments I get.
Check out Boston Scally company. A little pricey but well worth it for style and quality. As a bald man. hats are a style must!
Love my tweed flat caps. I call them grandad hats though because in my memory that's the hats old fellas wore.
What brand of flat cap are you wearing in this vid?
I like the hat but you should definitely rock the Panama!
Excellent video...I M leaving my house right now..wearing a gray fedora....have to run a few errands..I am always wearing a hat....wearing a hat transformed Walt Frazier to clyde..the hat was a borsalino..peace..
Guys, I love this kind of videos, seems like an avengers movie with a all the superstars
Im 55 and i started wearing a hat at the age of 3 or 4 and had one on since mostly a high quality cowboy hat but i do sport a fedora from time to time 😊
Antonio, please make a video with some casual outfits and the flat cap
