The Clammy ruler is a terrific ruler. I’ve been following Latifa for years and have taken several love online classes with her. She makes it easy with these templates.

I’m a Best Press girl. Love it. I can’t see myself doing the starch thing like Kimberly Jolly does. Nothing wrong with that method at all….I don’t have the space for it nor the time. Her piecing is always perfect though! Love the boxes. Always great stuff! Hopefully Dandelion will be okay. Keep us posted! 💕💕

Good morning Holly ☕️🩵 So good to see you, you look great in the colorful shirt and red earrings! I get this box also, I love this fabric also, I think this is the first more modern fabric I have gotten I believe. If you decide on a different pattern for this, please share your choice. I am considering doing the same! I give our little 14.5 year old dog a pet liquid collagen and another supplement for joint health. She is not as agile as in her younger days, but she has the strength and energy for sure!! We also go to the doggie chiropractor! I pray whatever is going on with Dandelion, it is something that can be worked with easily. Thank you Holly!!! 🤗

Happy Monday and good morning to you all!
An excellent box this time for sure. Gorgeous fabrics, amazing notions - I've already added that mechanical pencil to my cart; I've *never* seen a white fabric marker that actually works before - and two patterns for only $30? That's a real bargain. How they make any profit at all from this subscription is beyond me. 5 out of 5 on this one.
Different fabric stores have different rules. One that I go to will happily cut an eighth of a yard (4" is their minimum), and another will only cut yardage in increments of a quarter. So you can get a quarter of a yard, or a half, but not a third. Go figure, eh?
Do I starch my fabrics? Usually, yes, although very lightly. Before cutting, I'll hit it with a spray of Best Press on the wrong side & give it a good once-over with the iron. I have found that BP sometimes leaves behind a bit of a shiny residue, so I try not to use it on the front of the fabric unless absolutely necessary, such as a stubborn seam that will not lie flat, or a bit of binding that insists on coming unfolded no matter how many times you press it down. I've watched the "drown it" method videos and geeze louise that's a lot of time-consuming work! Not happening, nope.
Poor Dandelion. She's had a rough year, hasn't she? Hope all goes well with the vet visit & that she feels better soon. And in the same vein, I hope all goes well with you at the dentist, too. And you know what? Well wishes for Tom, too, that he may continue in good health. It's hard when those we care about are in pain or suffering in any way, and I'm sure this is all stressful for him, too.

Sew Sampler has stepped it up. As a beginner I subscribed and as I moved forward I canceled it. I’m reconsidering. I use a light starch spray or Best Press sometimes. I spray and immediately iron. I don’t have the space or patience to use Kimberly’s technique.

Good morning Holly! I'd give this box a 5. It's one of the better Sew Sampler boxes. That ruler is interesting. I do starch when I'm pressing seams. I love Magic to press. I think it works even better than Best Press. I hope you have a fantastic day!

Holly, I want fabric so bad that looks like the opening screen. It's so PRETTY!
Yes, the Sew Sampler boxes have been great this year and I really like that Kimberly is giving additional options in pattern choice on the coupon card. I wish she was able to offer an option of buying a full layer cake/jelly roll/fat quarters instead of fat 1/8's. Oh! Did you see that her new Jolly Roll Christmas book is available? I'm hoping she'll come out with a Halloween Jolly Book for next year.
Kimberly has a bathroom dedicated to her fabric starching - or so it looked like to me. I keep all my irons dry and use Flatter (Pineapple Grove), Acorn, Terial, then Best Press (that's my preference order). I have to really love someone to use my Flatter - that's stuff so expensive compared to all the others!
Poor Dandelion - I used to have weekly Reiki done on my shepherds. I took Reiki classes but had a hard time working on my babies - I would just start crying as I went over their bodies. Well wishes for Dandelion and you and Tom. It hurts when the babies hurt.

But the rest was awesome. Sending live to Dandelion. Good luck on the dentist. I love my nails. The colors make me happy. I love being able to experience weather. I'm alive. Love this sew sampler box, I'd give it a 5. It would be one I would get if I could afford it. I starch like Kimberly, (sta flo I dilute 50/50) I soak it hang it to dry and press. So much better for cutting, love how things line up. Oh no, prayers for Dandelion being sent, our fur babies are everything. I have pool noodles I put on my clothes line to hang 1 or more yards at a time, otherwise I just use a small drying rack. Thank you Holly, stay cool, it's a hot one today (Monday 26th).

This one is a 5 for me - I already have the background and accent picked out! Definitely a great value, and I love the fabric as well. I feel like this box is definitely for me - I've only gotten two of them so far, but I've already made the last one, and this one is high on the list to come next. Question of the Day: nope. no starch. I think it's avoidance from searching all my dad's hankies as a kid - that's how I learned to iron, and while starching is fine, I haven't really required it so far (but I do sometimes reminisce about those hankies!) Hugs to Dandelion and you both!

I like this box very much. I’ve got a pencil similar to that one already and I love it, I also have the smaller rotary cutter and love it too. I don’t see any fables in that fabric, I think I would’ve like to see some fantastic creatures hidden amongst the flowers, but the colors are nice. And I really like the clammy ruler and pattern. If I ha had that box, I would be very impressed by price versus value. I give this one a five.

Good morning Holly. Great video. The box is a solid 5. I have tried just about every method of starching. I have landed on Best Press. It depends on the project how heavily I use it. Curved or bias seams get a heavier spray. For the more part I use it diluted to get out wrinkles. As for Miss Dandelion , glucosamine is a great place to start. Your vet should be able to recommend the dosage. Our little girl gets a monthly injection of Librela for arthritis. It does have some side effects but it has been very effective for her. Hugs to you both!

It's a 5 for me. The clam shell template is a little scary for me, but I'll play with it. I also stopped it for 1 year but started up again because of the basket of the month patterns and have not been disappointed at all this time around. I use best press and flatter all the time. Starching fabric is not for me, too time consuming. Have a great day. TFS. We have a 14 year old Shepard/ Lab mix and we have her on CBD that we get from the vet. It's pricy but we have seen less limping along with less anxiety. She still mows the lawn every week with my husband and her ball and walks 2 miles every day so all in all she's doing pretty good for an old lady. I hope the vet comes up with a solution for her.

I like this box. It has items that are usable, not extras that a lot of people like, but I don’t want. I sometimes use Acorn (like Best Press), but am considering trying sizing as Acorn is a bit pricy. I do like it though. I spray it on, let it dry and press the fabric.

Poor Dandelion. ❤ My Artemis has arthritis in her hips. She's 8 years old and has had it since she was about 7. The vet gave her some supplements, and she's still wiggly, playful, and happy. I wish I could take them for MY arthritis. 😂 No, I don't starch my fabric before cutting/sewing. We're lucky I iron it at all. 😬 As for being the most unprepared RUclips creator, I think that might be me. Generally, about 5 minutes after I post a video, I realize I forgot to talk about at least 3 different things I had written in my notes. 😅 I think you do a fabulous job! ❤

I just started using best press for those folds in fabric. However, a local quilt shop explained to me that the Flatter spray is a thread relaxer and they told me not to use it if I want to press folds in the fabric for marking purposes as it won't hold the 'pressed fold' after using the flatter spray to get the folds OUT of the fabric. I've also started using the best press in the brush tube to get the starch just in the seam line.

My American bull dog has bad hips. The vet put her on glucosamine & chondroitin and told me I can purchase it in the human vitamin isle because it's cheaper. It has helped a lot! When she has bad flare ups, I do give her massages 2-3 times a day, and that also helps. Not to mention she loves that!
I also buy best press by the gallon. I mostly use that for 1/2 yard or less. Anything bigger i starch in a storage bin and hang outside on the close line. I have to use something. I don't like working with flimsy fabric.

I think they are stepping up their boxes. I have a sewline pencil that is gray and it’s my go to for marking. I use best press and iron the fabric. I don’t put that much starch on it to make it stiff. Best press is my definite go to for starch.

Hoping everything works out with Dandelion. We used to compete in dog sports and thus had multiple dogs (now down to just 5, but 2 of them are 15+ years old). None of them had a lot of health issues, but with that many, we dealt with many issues through the years. It’s always so stressful.
I usually use Best Press and iron my yardage before I cut. I’m doing the Cotton Cuts PMQ for the first time and all the tutorials say don’t use any starch or sizing, but I did my first clue before watching them; I used Acorn finisher in the pen on the seams and hope I didn’t do irreparable damage.
Good thoughts for Dandelion and her X-rays and you and your tooth extraction. Take care.

Ok, I'm going to give this box a 4. The fabrics is beautiful and all the add ons are great. I have not gotten my box yet. I chose this subscription box to have new projects to do, but I just am not thrilled with the curve pieces (but this box does challenge me and makes me do something new). But that is a lot of extra fabric to buy and the size of the quilt is a huge commitment if I hate doing the curved pieces. So maybe I will just try one row for a table runner. We shall see.

That is a lot of extra fabric to do the project. I guess I like smaller projects with all the stuff at least for the top. If I was looking for a quilt project, I wouldn't expect it in a monthly project box. I do like the fabric but I would do something else with it and the Clamshell template is a good find. A 3.5 for me.

I do not starch. After being a military wife and having to make my starch and starching uniforms for 10 years, I am so past that.
Lol. Yesterday Penelope, our cat, brought us a live mouse. My husband got it out of her paws with a wad of paper towels. Then he took it back outside and locked Penelope's catdoor so she couldn't bring it back in. She vocalized her distaste at being locked in and having her offering taken away for quite awhile. Our older cat, Bagheera, got tired of listening to her whining and went downstairs to sleep. Drama drama.
We had a few days of 80-degree weather here this weekend. My husband went on a mountsin bike ride and froze to death. It was 51 in the Valley, but 40 up there in the mountains for a couple of hours. It will be going back up into the 90s, though. I got to sleep with my bedroom window open for 2 nights. The smoke from forest fires was low, too. I survived another year of July weather over a 100 degreesI believe we never went over 109
    Woohoo.

Hello Holly. Lookin' lovely as always! I give the box a 5, the pen and the ruler are pretty nice. There is a Cut Loose fall leaf table runner pattern that the fabric would look nice in, just a thought. As far as starching goes, Best Press, Flatter, or something along those lines is what I will use. I've seen the way Kimberly does her starching, and that's way too much for me. I hope Dandelion gets better very soon, I don't like when fur babies are hurting or sick in any way! Thank you for sharing, until next time.....

    Have a great week Holly!

Great box! You could just make a table topper by making fewer blocks. The fabric is so pretty for fall. It would be fun to try the clamshell ruler. Good value in this box. I give it a 5. Most of the time I use Best press. If there are a lot of little pieces, I use stay flow and get the fabric pretty wet (spraying) and let it dry before ironing. But not often. So sorry to hear about sweet Dandelion.

That was a great box. I do use Best Press and iron the fabric right after applying the best press.

Good morning Holly. Wish I could share my moment of Zen with you. I have 3 squirrels at my bird table with my birds this morning. Hope dear Dandelion is soon feeling better. Love this box too. Take care. Prayers for all of you.

No starch on my material. I use spray starch, that's good for me. Great box, thinking about picking it back up. Have a great day. . . Hugs!

Hi Holly! I have rheumatoid arthritis and feel starching gives my fabric extra grip when piecing the small pieces I love. Spray starch is my method of choice.

Oh, poor Dandelion, hope for a good diagnosis. No starching, I may use a little best press when I'm doing the final press when all sewn to gather.

Even though the box was missing a ton of fabric if you wanted to make the enclosed pattern, the template and fabric alone was worth the price. The white pencil was pretty cool, too. I give it a 5.

I love the box...only wish you had waited a few days to open. Mine only just shipped and yes, I could gave not watched but it's like opening Christmas each month! I feel like FQS steps up really well for awhile and then slides back down making me wonder if it's time to stop them, but then they step it up again! I'm enjoying them while I can! As for starching, I tried Kimberlys way but had colors run onto other colors while drying so I've gone back to best press and not all the time. If I'm doing smaller pieces or fabric doesn't have much sizing in it, then I starch. Otherwise I just spray completed blocks with best press.

Love the Sew Sampler boxes! I do use Best Press and buy it by the gallon. I have used Niagara starch, but I like the Best Press better.

Yup, I starch my fabric with starch from a can. I use starch for quilts that I want to look “spectacular”.

Hello Holly, the fabrics are gorgeous colors I also give the box a a 5. About starching. I buy best press by the gallon. Actual starch is edible. I don’t use it. I get enough uninvited guests already. My uninvited guests have more than 2 legs. I hope Dandelion suffering is short lived. My daughter gave her Great Dane glucosamine condroiten. Her dog showed a lot of improvement. Please forgive my spelling. Stay well.

So I'm going to say that one reason I dropped the Primitive Gatherings box was because you had to buy so much extra fabric to complete a project. I don't like that about this Sew Sampler box. I prefer if they give you something you can finish... I understand a little bit more fabric, but when it is a lot, it feels like it just got more expensive. Maybe a tablerunner is a better idea for this one because I do like the curved ruler and the fabric!! Thank you for showing the boxes!!

All scents of Best Press make my nose run and cause me to sneeze, sneeze, sneeze. I starch (usually spray), let dry, then iron. I have dipped yardage, but you are correct that it is a commitment.

Nice box, I give it a 4! Hope Dandelion feels better soon! I lightly starch with half water/half best press then iron. I have no idea how people have the time or space to starch like Kimberly Jolly! 😂

Question response - Nah. I rarely do anything to fabric before using it except in these circumstances:
I will use Terial Magic if I’m doing any raw piece collage work.
I will use Best Press if I want to get wrinkles out of wide backs which seem always to be wrinkly. You don’t even need to iron to watch the wrinkles release before your eyes.
I will use Flatter to press anything I send out to another quilter because it smells good.
Between Best Press and Flatter - I will use Flatter hands down if pressing for anything that needs a very crisp edge to stay such as prepping appliqué. Flatter will keep the crisp edge over many years and you can wrinkle it in your hands and it will come right back to the crisp edge you ironed into the fabric.

I agree…maybe Sew Sampler has someone new creating their boxes. Loved that fabric. I use both best press and flatten. I love walking into my sewing room and smelling flatten. Makes my happy place a little happier. :)

That fabric reminds me of Gingerber fabric. Very pretty. Love this box even though I'm not a sew sampler fan. I give it a 5. Love the Clammy ruler...... for the most part I do NOT starch..... I don't see a reason to. Though I like when someone holds up their blocks and their stiff and crisp looking all fine...but by the time you all all the rows etc.....put through your machine....the end up all wrinkly. Quilting helps with not see perfection!

This box is a 5 for me all day! I love best press and buy it by the gallon. I just spray as I press. I am praying for Dandelion. Hopefully it's something treatable and she's back to her bouncy and bubbly self soon. Have a good day Holly.
