I'm right there with you! I haven't relaxed since August or September 2019. Clipped ends prob once or twice since. Not as much hair fall as I expected. Moisturize n deep condition. I wear head bands on what I call bad hair days...but I'm ok with it.😉never been one to give energy to what ppl say or think...poot on em if they dont like how I look. But what have u been doing on your journey sis?
@low bqttery I'm still doing pretty much the same things. Unfortunately I colored my hair like a week or 2 before this Coronavirus became prominent. 🤦🏾♀️so I've been plaiting & n twisting hair n wearing it a lace front a bit. Still deep condition n apply oil, leave in, & water every other day or so. Still taking some getting used to...real tempted to get a relaxer. Was almost discouraged n was just going to choose it all off one night when it knotted up so badly after a wash. But thanks to hubby, we managed to save most of my hair, but I still lost a great deal of it. But I think the idea she has bout washing hair in parted sections is the best idea for transitioning hair. I didnt do it that night bcuz I was rushing. Old adage says, "Patience is a virtue!" And most certainly is😏
I'm white but I've had very curly hair all my life and I learned how to take care of my curls from the Natural Hair Community here on RUclips. I am so so grateful!! Even though my hair is very different from Black/AA hair, I just love the community and the support that comes from it. It's so beautiful seeing women come together and boosting each other up. I'm not transitioning but this was a great video!! thank you for putting hard work into this ❤️
I am White to and my hair is like 3c with a mix of 3b and whole my life i've ttreating my hair wrong but it got mesed up after i rebleached it so many times now the front area is flat well it gets curly after i wash it and tomorow is flat again while underneath is curly what do u guys mean by deep conditioner
I am currently transitioning (or trying to). It's been six months so far and the two different textures are starting to annoy me. I'm just here on youtube trying to get inspiration, ideas, tips, etc to follow through. Sometimes I think about changing my mind because I don't know how or if I'll like my natural hair. For now I'm pushing through trying to stay positive and not give up. Thank you for the video, very entertaining and informative. UPDATE: I'm natural now. I did the big chop in December 2018.
tevalere Definitely keep trying to push through ! You should give yourself the opportunity to enjoy your full natural hair after transitioning before you decide to change your mind. It’s not always easy and you may not like it at first but I do believe if you stick with it once you’re fully natural you won’t only learn to love your texture, but feel both proud and accomplished that you saw it through! 🧡
You can do it Trevalere. I wanted to transition in 2013. In May 2018, so much of my relaxed hair had fallen out, bald spot in my crown, edges disappear and being diagnosed with scarring alopecia. I had to big chopped. I had cried the first two weeks. My coworkers, my mom told me how good I look with short natural hair. Two and a half month later my coworkers and my mom have been telling me how fast my hair is growing. I tried to go natural in 2013 and didn't know the process and my beautician didn't know the process and ended up back on the creamy crack. Now, I wish I had stuck it thru back in 2013 and I would not have scarring alopecia. Scarring alopecia is hair loss and when the hair follicles dies no more hair will not grow. I have thin hair growing back in the crown as my scalp is still healing from the creamy crack, color rinse, flat iron, etc. Your hair and your scalp will thank you for going natural and keeping all of your hair follicles alive. I had no idea what a relaxer, hair coloring does to the hair and scalp.
tevalere same here I’ve been transitioning for 9 months and I’ve ask for shears a couple times because the two textures are about to drive me insane! But looking at different videos do give me hope
It’s so mind blowing watching pple put so much effort and thought into going natural. I’m really one of those low maintenance girls. Back in 2011 when I first started transitioning All i did was stop relaxing my hair. Washed it, braided it up and threw a wig on it, every once in a while let it breathe .
Shakeira Davis You’re right! It definitely doesn’t require too much fancy handling - if anything, sometimes the basics can just be a little time consuming. But once you figure out your sweet spot for moisture and protection, you’re basically good to go!
Shakeira Davis So true. And that's why the people who benefit most from the natural movement are the manufacturers of the myriad of products the naturalistas think they need. I spent a week researching some of the big name products and was shocked about the amount of harmful ingredients they contained. Glad I went simple, too.
Yes while I’m transitioning I’ve noticed a lot of hair loss not my new growth but my permed ends I’m scared to touch my hair because every time i comb my hair a lot comes out and my mom knows nothing about natural hair.
Hi College Curls! I have started my transitioning phase about 6 months ago. I implemented using protein treatments and Olaplex to strengthen my hair. It is a challenge with the different textures, but keeping my hair condition, low manipulation, and just wrapping my hair has been a plus of less shedding and breakage. Also, I plan to grow my hair out until I slowly cut off the length of the relaxer. Thank you for the encouragement and I appreciate this video to keep me motivated. Blessings to you and your family!
I've been relaxed for as long as I can remember and now I'm thinking of going natural. My last relaxer was in oct/2018 and its apr/2019 now and it's pretty tough dealing with the two textures. I think ill get it cut and deep conditioned to move on from now.
Ive been transitioning for about 4 years. I fell off the wagon after my first few attempts but ive been successfully transitioning for the last year & a half. I've always refused to do a big chop. I've cut my relaxed ends off bit by bit every 4-6 weeks. I keep my hair in crochet braids & im finally ready to cut off my last bit of relaxed ends. I can honestly say that i haven't lost any of my length during the process!! As many hair videos as i've watched idk how ive never come across this video until now. Super entertaining!!
Thanks for giving the confidence to wait... I wish I too don't lose any hair length like you & wait patiently... mine is a very long hair... it's been 2 years I got my hair permanently straightened...want my natural hair back now very badly...😭
Now we are two. We can do it! At the moment I have two textures and I am dying for it to go back to how it was. My roots are straight and my ends are curly. Hahaha what a mix right?!!!🤣
My girls and I have done short and long term transitioning. I transitioned for about 9 months and got tired of the relaxed ends and wanted a TWA so I BC'd and loved it! Now my hair is longer than before I cut it and much healthier. About 5 years ago I had to stop relaxing my older daughter's hair because of a head injury that damaged her scalp. I did a very short transition for her and she let me cut it off to about 2". She now has long natural hair. My younger daughter...I stopped relaxing hers and kept her hair in protective styles like braids and crotchet for at least a year and slowly trimmed her relaxed ends. Her hair right now is longer than both me and my older daughter's hair, almost to her bra. They are 18 and 19 years old. We're all at shoulder to APL length type 4 hair. I hated having relaxed ends because washing it left insane tangling! The big chop was amazing for me!
Woooo! Stick it out and I know your curls will look great 😍 & thank you so much for your kind words, I’m glad it makes you confident! That’s exactly what I want my channel to do ☺️
I am watching you for the first time and I am very pleased. My dilemma is dealing with new growth and permed hair. The breakage is unbelievable. I am going to try your methods because I am not ready to chop off my hair. Thank you so much.
Dealing with both new growth and permed hair can be a nightmare sometimes, and the breakage can make it even worse. It does get easier though the more new growth you get, and as it starts to outweigh how much permed hair you have
I’m 7 months transitioning and I still really don’t know what two textures mean because when I relax my hair, I relax only the roots and never the tips so, I think I’ve always dealt with 2 textures. But right now, about 3 weeks ago, I started doing a lot of deep conditioning with both hair products and natural products, I have a regimen which basically has me deep conditioning twice a week, one with a deep conditioner and the other with natural products. I also use growth hair food, Shea butter, leave in conditioner, anti dandruff hair food, I wash once a week in partitions and also apply hair oils, basically coconut and almond oil, I do twists once a week as well. It’s 3 weeks of hair treatment and I think it’s a great journey. I think I don’t like wash days lol
I stopped getting relaxers last year in November and I’ve been transitioning ever since. I’m at the point now where I want to just cut the rest of my relaxed hair off but I really want to retain the length! I’m still learning, talking to friends who are natural and watching videos to figure out what works for me.
I really needed this. I have relaxed hair and type 3C curls. My transitioning process is emotionally draining cause I want to see the results immediately. I’m being patient and I glad to see so many of your girls in the same boat. I feel so alone in this process with so many of my friends and family members with straight to wavy hair.
Love the drawling. I did 2 chops (jan2017 & jan2018) and my second one was the biggest chop! Now it’s been about a year and 4 months and I’m back to dead/straight ends. A bit frustrating but I refuse to cut it for the 3rd time! This video helped a lot thank you🙏🏽
I started my transition three months ago and have a couple of inches of new growth. I use foam rollers to blend the textures and have done one trim (just my ends) so far. I’m hoping to chop at the year mark. I’m thankful I picked the middle of a pandemic to transition, because roller sets are unpredictable. It was so nice to see an entertaining video! I am thirsty for information about transitioning, but I tire of watching people just talk. Good luck everyone!
I did all-star cheerleading for seven years and had heat damage because of it. usually always blow drying and flat ironing my hair every week for competitions and such. On top of that I didn't know how to take care of my hair. this upcoming thanksgiving it will be 1 year that i have gone heatless! In addition to that i got my hair trimmed and want to get my natural curl pattern back. I've always been insecure because of my hair and how damaged it always was. watching your video really helped educate me and reassure me as i begin to take some more steps into my healthy hair journey. thanks a million
I love this, thank you so much for sharing! Congrats for taking the initiative to turn your crown around! After going heatless for a year you should definitely have a bunch of healthy new growth and should feel more confident when you do decide to big chop. Wishing you all the best! :)
I start my transition tomorrow... tonight I just did a hot oil treatment and I am gonna leave the oil in my hair overnight I probably have 2a 2b hair (looking at pictures of me as a baby) but I have been treating my hair as though they are straight because I was never told that there was a different way of treating curly hair...I didn't even know there was a thing like conditioner a year back...but I am ready to finally treat my hair the way it should be treated
Seriously loved the use of illustrations!! Visual representation just made things so much clearer. I'm kinda new to transitioning ( I guess)... It was more of a choice that I want to stop relaxing and try to see what my natural hair looks like (it's been a while)... Its been 6 months and my hair growth is nothing to brag about. I don't really think I realised what I was getting myself into. SO much breakage, different textures, some parts well conditioned others dry and brittle... Due you have explained so much to me!! THANK YOU!! This by far has been the most informative and helpful video I've seen about the whole process. Never through about having a timeline either! This video has changed the whole game for me!!
I’m biracial, so my hair is curly, but once I got into middle school, I was too annoyed with dealing with my hair every morning. So I did a relaxer so my curls were easier to handle. After a few years my hair got stringier and uglier cuz of all the touch ups. I am abt a few months in for transitioning, but my hair grows super fast, so hopefully it doesn’t take too long.
I realxed my hair at 13 and I am still that age. I relaxed my hair at a hair salon and everything looked great then I went into what relaxed hair is and such and what it does and so on, but then I learned what transitioning is to then realize I was already going through it since I didn't put relaxer in a few months later nor had any interest to (didn't want try my luck with getting burned) again and the first time I did was in mid august last year and i was already growing hair into the next month since I decided to go through with it and it also would be easier to start now then later since I'll be able to grow more hair while also going through the troubles now. It has been 5 almost 6 if you count February since I've been transitioning I stopped going to hair salon in late August onto early September learning that I should start using less heat to non and I decided not use any heat since it would be easier for me. I will admit it is hard with the different textures but it is worth the experience and is kinda fun plus the end product would be amazing. Some people would ask what was the point when you already had good hair I honestly did not know how to actually handle hair but wash it along with some products and through so this has taught me so much and made my hair easier to handle, while being worth the journey. And I'm fine with cutting my hair at some point just want to find the right length only to then go through with it. (Excuse any incorrect grammar or spelling)
Lovedaina Elas i am 13 also and i really want to transition and stop putting heat on my hair because it looked healthy last time i did it because i always get braids but i don’t know how to tell my dad but i think if i told him he would be supportive but he would say wait to next year which is when i will be a freshman my step sister is natural and she has 4b 4c hair and she told me when i wash my hair i am natural in my roots because every time i get a perm a week or two later it frizz up bad and my hair is also thin
I love your video. I am currently transitioning from relaxed to natural .I have been natural before I decided to relax my hair but, I missed my curls and the thickness my hair had before relaxing .So I decided to go back natural an remain natural.I do not hate relaxers I just want what works for me.I realize that not everyone can take be natural but, every one should do what works for them.
5 weeks and 1 day into my natural hair journey. Haven't had a relaxer in over 25 years and just stopped using heat on my hair 5 weeks ago. I'm just trying to get my regimen figured out and see what works for my hair. I'm excited about taking my hair back and loving me and my hair enough to walk in a healthy lifestyle. My plan is to transition for at least 1 year then check my progress at that point.
I think my hair is transitioning. I haven’t put heat on it recently and I try not to get flat ironed as much anymore. I had relaxers most my life and had length cut off my hair. I finally got my length back but it still has relaxer in it. I haven’t had a relaxer in maybe 2-3 years. I put my hair in box braids, twists, cornrows etc. so I can grow my hair and cut off my straight ends. Man I really wish my mom didn’t relax my hair in the first place but we’re trying to go back to natural, I feel more comfortable with my hair curly.
You’re definitely transitioning and sounds like you’re KILLING it! 😁 With no relaxers, using little to no heat, and wearing protective styles, you should be able to make up for losing your curls to relaxers in no time! 💕
I’ve only just started. 54 years old and ready to be me and see me. Subscribed. Here we go! Love the illustrations. But enjoyed and noted the wisdom. On my way to get some products! Thanks! 🤗
This is a excellent video, I wish it was available when I first stared transitioning in 2017. I am now 3+ years in and the one thing I have been doing is constantly trimming my ends about once a month, sometimes. Yesterday I was adventurous and cut about 2 inches.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I'm one week away from being 16 mths post-relaxer! I've definitely run into some rough times myself and still do some days. It didn't start getting easier for me until after the 9 mth mark. I would love to transition for at least 3 years. So far, so good. You're video was truly inspiring. 💞💞💞💞
This is the best transitioning video I've seen. I am currently transitioning. My last relaxer was 3 months ago. This is my 4th time going natural. This is the first time I've transitioned. I big chopped all the other times. Right now with both textures my hair is puffy. I have it cut in a bob style. I find it hard to come up with styles that dont involve me flat ironing my hair because of the length of my hair.
It's funny, I kinda fell into the natural hair journey by accident. I stopped relaxing my hair because I loved bleaching and coloring it. I had no wants of long or healthy hair,I just decided I liked my hair with color more than it being relaxed. I still damaged it tho with too much heat/bleach but I actually learned how to finally properly care for my hair through that process. Watching RUclips is what gave me a name for what I was doing and a whole new vocabulary and product list.lol I big chopped/tranistioned my hair to the state it's in now. I very rarely use heat anymore but I still color but now I do it in a healthy way. The internet + RUclips + cosmetology school + personal experience have taught me ALOT about my natural and I'm happier for it. I didn't go into with the intent on making my hair better but I've come out on the other side with my hair the healthiest it's been in ages! It's thick and soft again, 8 years into the process!
I’m transitioning rn I did not want to do the big chop but I am going to trim my hair. My hair is shedding a lot. I’ve tried to start doing twistouts, bantu knots, and etc. I am not good at it my hair is so thick I feel lazy and I can’t do my own hair but I been trying. I gave myself a one month challenge and it’s killing me not to put a weave in my head lol. I felt so bold going outside with my hair was all puffy first day of course I see a family member that’s been putting perms in my head since the age of 6/7. “What’s wrong with your hair? Are you going natural?”, but after that I’ve been getting positive comments. Honestly I’m doing this for me I’ve been almost natural for a year. This video really helped me thank you so much😪
I Recently Just Cut Off My Relaxed Ends The Big Chop Because I Was Transitioning It’s The Best Decision I’ve Ever Made !! It Looks And Feels So Much Healthier
Love this video! I love the drawings!!! More interesting than watching someone talk! I started by transitioning and only know a little bit but I knew enough and have taken really good care of my hair now for a year and then considering cutting off the ends that aren't as happy still. I have mostly done braids and twists to help me survive but honestly even that has been better than what I was dealing with before:). Now I am figuring out what type of hair I have specifically and doing research on what products to try that might help me get to my end goal of bringing my curls to life. Thanks again for a great video. It's the most helpful one on transitioning I've watched as I decide what to do next!
K Bullen Thank you so much for your kind words! & I’m happy to hear of how successful your journey has been so far - I know you’ll continue to make great decisions during it!
My hair has been transitioning for the last 8 months and some days it drives me crazy! Its a lot of work and it seems like it'll take forever before I figure out how to do my hair. But honestly I don't regret going natural. I want my hair to be as crazy and natural as I am on the inside. 😋
Thank you so much for your directives for transitioning I am at 3 months...my hair texture is pretty str and even in my relaxed time I was proactive at self care.. no weave edge damage, etc.I have friends who said if i would have stuck with the journey 4 years it would be amazing! well 😥🥱🤣🤫 I am ready now
Congrats on being 3 months into your transition, I’m happy to hear you’re ready to do it! Wishing you all the best, thank you for watching and commenting! 💕
i actually accidentally started transitioning because i wanted my hair to grow a bit so i stopped relaxing it for a couple months with the intention of relaxing it after but the i decided to put my hair in box braids and my hair grew ridiculous amounts and it had never been longer. after doing this for months it grew so much and i lost sight of why i was relaxing my hair in the first place. It gave me the confidence that i needed to know that i would be able to deal with my very thick natural hair for sure. Tomorrow i'm going to do a big chop, and I'm super excited but also really scared. Hopefully it will liberate me from the pressures that i felt to look like my white peers and I will realise how beautiful my african roots really are
Currently working on transitioning my hair. For a short time. I wanna grow out the front of my hair before my big chop! I’m excited!!! this video helped me a lot thanks!
i've been transitioning for almost 7 months and it's only been recently that i started watching tutorials on how to take better care of my hair because idk what to do with it anymore. it's mostly been in protective styles because i'm lazy lmfao; i've been doing the least. but this video was really informative and i'm gonna start paying more attention to what my hair needs. thanks sis, you da bomb.
You're wlcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it and that it was helpful in helping you learn more during your transitioning process. 7 months in is HUGE! Congrats! Stick with it and you'll have beautiful curls when you're ready to big chop! :)

This time is particularly good for transitioning or going natural too in my opinion. Congrats on starting your journey! ^_^ Wishing you the best of luck!
Good video. My last relaxer was in June(about 5 months ago). Transitioning hasn't been too bad so far. I have been going to salon for roller sets or flat twists. I'm learning it definitely requires more work than relaxed hair. Which is why I never tried natural before. I don't think I'll do a big chop. My hair is just below ears so don't think my transition will take long. RUclips has been helpful. I'm learning what works for my hair quickly. Hoping I can stick it out 😊
My mom has been relaxing my hair for as long as I can remember but I’m going into the eighth grade now and I really want to just go natural. I have also always hated how straight and short my hair was and I now know why it was like that and not how the other black girls looked. I’m so ready for this journey to going natural! 🥰✌️
when i was just transitioning i used to hate wash day because my mum didnt think it looked nice so it lead to many days were i would cry myself to sleep but she eventually grew to like the idea and is now helping me through it😊
I had my hair relaxed since I was 7 and started transitioning a little over a year ago. I've had crochet braids and that has been ideal for my transitioning experience. I used to have a weave in college and that really hurt my hair but the braids have been great. I'm nervous because i'm going to start training my hair in a few months or so but this video was so helpful :)
I've been transitioning for 18 months now. I'm not quite ready to do the big chop yet because I have bra strap length hair and don't like short hair. I must say it has been a journey. I mostly do braidouts and use a curl rod on the ends to blend in the relaxed ends. I plan on transitioning for two years.
I am so glad that I found this video. Very informative and helpful. I am now post 7 months relaxer and the process has been a learning and spiritual journey for me. Thank you for sharing your journey.
My hair use to be long and healthy until I fucked it up with all those chemicals, now I'm trying to go natural hoping to get my hair healthy again. My back broke off and sides and it's a pain. I'm thinking of doing a big chop to start over. But this video really helped thank you.
This video was awesome & very encouraging! I've been natural for almost 10 years now. I had my hair styled almost a year ago, it was supposed to be a blowout, but definitely changed my 4c curl pattern. 🤔 So I now have to transition back to my natural state & even tho I've done this before (transitioned the first time) this video has really helped me to do it again! Thank you! Kudos on the animation... very nice!
I'm currently transitioning. I am five and a half months post relaxer and I'm tired of having two hair textures. Even though I haven't had a tremendous amount of growth, I'm cutting my hair. I have enough growth to have a TWA (teeny weeny afro) I think I have a pretty curl pattern so I can't wait to cut my hair.
I just found your channel and I just want to say keep putting out more videos I’m gone tell people to come subscribe cause I love how you break everything down so you can understand it more
After watching this video I chopped 3 inches off to help my transitioning and after cutting it i realized a big difference already! this video was helpful
3 weeks CG and i have short hair. I am going to grow my hair to my shoulders and keep it that length and wait until the colour has grown out. Enjoyed your video as you explained it well with pictures.
Thank you‼️ Very informative. I haven’t had a relaxer since February 14th and my salon is still closed because of COVID-19. So I think I’m already transitioning. 🤔 I’ve been doing some research and your video has definitely helped. 👍🏾💕💕💕
The first time I went natural I did a big chop. I had a twa but it was long enough to grip for braids. I was natural for 6 years and this year 2018 I decided to cut all my hair off aging, but this time I got a pixie cut and a perm 😫🤦🏾♀️ so now I’m transitioning. And I’m nervous, but happy af for the years to come because I miss my fro 😫♥️ I’m so grateful for RUclips and my mistakes, because now I can start over and do it right for the most part lol
Y'all if we didn't have RUclips! I was natural in 2008 but then did everything wrong (hair color, then texlax) and ended up relaxing again for several years then big chopped in 2017. I've learned from my mistakes and will never relax my hair again. I love natural hair.
I am a curly girl (I think). One set of my aunts all have super curly South Indian hair and the other side all have super straight. I believe I have curly as I have incredibly dry, dull, hair. Sometimes I see the curls coming out with certain products. Sometimes I see waves that don’t hang around for more than a day... I am learning but had a big chop. My hair was quite healthy as I used minimal heat for the past year but have been chemically careful (no SLES, parabans, silicones) for about 5-6 years. I believe I’m transitioning as I haven’t seen either the wave or curl stick around for more than the wash day. I’m only in month 4 if this & have no idea what to do! I found what you said encouraging but still not able to feel like I’m progressing!
Hi Christina - maybe I can help! Why do you feel unsure as to if you're a curly girl or to if you're transitioning? It may be easier to tell if you see what your hair looks like when wet. Do you think it's possible you could have heat damage?
CollegeCurls , the reason I think that I might not be curly... when wet, it’s straight with small waves at the bottom. When styles, curls fall to limp wavey straight within a few hours (less than 5). It’s definitely not straight A’s I have FRIZZ!!!! I just want to know! Heat damage... no! I used the blow dryer & straightener once in the past year. I used to bow dry my hair before that. But minimal heat use in the past year. CGM since April 2018. SLES and silicone free for 5 or 6 years. 🙄😖 I do like your hair. It looks so bloody naturally lovely! I just want the same... natural and something that I can sand in front of a class with.
In this video, that wasn't my hair - it was a weave, but thank you still, I'm glad it looks natural! lol :) But, in regards to you, since you don't have heat damage it sounds more like you may have slightly wavy hair if it isn't completely straight. I recommend trying out some lighter products like hair milks instead of heavy creams/custards - this could weigh your hair down and make your waves/curls fall more quickly. Also some lighter oils like grapeseed or jojoba. If your hair is a little more wavy/straight than it is curly, that's okay! Embrace it - this hair type is just as beautiful! :)
CollegeCurls ooo... thank you so much for the advice! I will try that out. I watched some more videos after this one but I wanted to comment on this one as it was appropriate on this one! I like all the little tips you give on your videos, been writing them down. Will go through more and pick out the milks.
Maybe you're type 2a (loose wavy) which is the loosest of all the textured hair types. I'm a 3a which makes my hair more curly but from what I've learned, you should try milks or soft hold gels. I would totally recommend Naturallycurly.com (I don't know if you've heard of it); is a blog with all the info you need, the quiz to find your hair type, porosity and density, and the products you should use, and there's also a part for questions; they even have a RUclips channel. I'm sorry this was so long but I hope it helped. Don't give up 💖
Thank you so much for this video!!! I have been wanting to see a video that could answer some of my questions. I am 6 months post relaxer and blending the two textures have been a challenge, the problem I have is the breakage and shedding of my relaxed hair. My natural hair is growing and doing fine, but relaxed ends ain’t having it! LOL!!! I was going to transition for 12 months, but now I think I may big chop before that time.
My hair doesn’t have heat damage, however the front and abit of the back has damage from training my hair with gel and slicked back styles!! I’m currently transitioning x
I am 5 months into transitioning from perm hair I was scared to do the big chop so I decide to grow out my hair it's kind of frustrating cuz I don't know my hair texture and I really still trying to learn how to manage my hair I just took plaits out and I'm going to put plaits back in because the back of my hair fell out a lot due to me being stressed so I want the rest of my back of my hair to get a chance to grow but so far I love and it and I'm loved seeing my curl pattern but I still need tips on a healthier transitioning growth please help me
I started transitioning back in March so it’s been 8 months now and I’m loving how my curls are coming out. I can’t wait to cut it next March in 4 months!
OMG love the drawings!! I am 10 months post relaxer and I am sooooo proud of myself I made it to 10 months post. I am loving my new growth and can’t wait to Big chop. I was thinking maybe big chopping at one year post but time will tell 😊
WOW!! I LOVE the presentation it's so catchy and educational. All this info is so GREAT. even though I've been natural for a long while now this video taught me more about the process the growth process. Thank You so so much.
WOOP WOOP! 2 motnhs is a HUGE accomplishment - congrats! :) I transitioned for 9 months, so I definitely understand the excitement and nerves involved. Keep it up though, it's well worth the wait, work, and reward! I've never had box braids but REALLY want to try some this year
Well I started a month n I'm feeling so confident...I pray i don't become depressed. My thing is y have damages relaxed hair under all my wigs.. so natural hair is it. Ps Girllllll u can really draw.
4 months natural!! The two textures are annoying!!! But I've got this 💪
Illusion x how’s your hair now?
Old adage says, "Patience is a virtue!" And most certainly is😏
Ppp
How are you doing now?
I'm white but I've had very curly hair all my life and I learned how to take care of my curls from the Natural Hair Community here on RUclips. I am so so grateful!! Even though my hair is very different from Black/AA hair, I just love the community and the support that comes from it. It's so beautiful seeing women come together and boosting each other up. I'm not transitioning but this was a great video!! thank you for putting hard work into this ❤️
Truth be told, the naturalistas can be pretty hateful and hurtful to non-naturals but, it's great your experience was so positive!
same here... white people don't know how to treat curls i swear... the natural community saved my hair and made me love it
@@k.m.j.coutinho4390 actually the non naturals can be more hateful with their comments about hair textures
Machi Muchy do you use Jheri curl perms or something?
I am currently transitioning (or trying to). It's been six months so far and the two different textures are starting to annoy me. I'm just here on youtube trying to get inspiration, ideas, tips, etc to follow through. Sometimes I think about changing my mind because I don't know how or if I'll like my natural hair. For now I'm pushing through trying to stay positive and not give up. Thank you for the video, very entertaining and informative.
UPDATE: I'm natural now. I did the big chop in December 2018.
P.S. I'm very scared to big chop.
tevalere Definitely keep trying to push through !
We are hair journey twins. Right now I'm about 8 months post. How is your hair now
tevalere same here I’ve been transitioning for 9 months and I’ve ask for shears a couple times because the two textures are about to drive me insane! But looking at different videos do give me hope
I have two hair textures at the moment.
This video was very informative ❤
Ugh same my hair is like 1/7 wavy curly then the rest I’d just 1b
It’s so mind blowing watching pple put so much effort and thought into going natural. I’m really one of those low maintenance girls. Back in 2011 when I first started transitioning All i did was stop relaxing my hair. Washed it, braided it up and threw a wig on it, every once in a while let it breathe .
Shakeira Davis You’re right! It definitely doesn’t require too much fancy handling - if anything, sometimes the basics can just be a little time consuming. But once you figure out your sweet spot for moisture and protection, you’re basically good to go!
I'm almost 11 month post. I do the same thing...simple.
Me too. 9 month of no relaxer and yes wig.
Shakeira Davis So true. And that's why the people who benefit most from the natural movement are the manufacturers of the myriad of products the naturalistas think they need. I spent a week researching some of the big name products and was shocked about the amount of harmful ingredients they contained. Glad I went simple, too.
You're so right
Stopped straightening my hair like one month ago, I'm proud, thanks for this videos, I was about to give up on my hair
This by far was the most informative transitioning video ever! Great video girl 🙌🏾
_ASHLEY ANGELINA_ Thank you!
I agree 💞 thanks a lot of really gave me some inspiration
"Flaming sticks of death"💀
😭😭
Yes while I’m transitioning I’ve noticed a lot of hair loss not my new growth but my permed ends I’m scared to touch my hair because every time i comb my hair a lot comes out and my mom knows nothing about natural hair.
Hey wats your ig or snap ?
Thatssojayyy are you transitioning or thinking about it or anything else haha?
@TheyknowTavii
Love the drawings new subscriber
I wish I had your patience 😭 😂
Thanks for giving the confidence to wait... I wish I too don't lose any hair length like you & wait patiently... mine is a very long hair... it's been 2 years I got my hair permanently straightened...want my natural hair back now very badly...😭
I’ve had relaxed hair for 17 years and I’m contemplating transitioning to natural, my goal is to transition for a year and I’m a little nervous
Now we are two. We can do it! At the moment I have two textures and I am dying for it to go back to how it was. My roots are straight and my ends are curly. Hahaha what a mix right?!!!🤣
So what are the results? Cus i want to start too
Ive had relaxed hair for 14 years. N now tryin transistioning too.. how long did u take ?
I transitioned for 6 months and then did the big chop
Transitioning 1 month Now Planning on chopping 9mths-1year from now. Watching your Video really make me feel confident. best channel ever😁❤️
Woooo! Stick it out and I know your curls will look great 😍 & thank you so much for your kind words, I’m glad it makes you confident! That’s exactly what I want my channel to do ☺️
THE DRAWINGS DEFINITELY MADE IT MORE INTERESTING AND I'LL PROBABLY REMEBER THIS MORE THAN SOMEONE JUST TALKING.
Why do people hate? Omg it’s SOMEONE ELSE’S HAIR.
I stopped getting relaxers last year in November and I’ve been transitioning ever since. I’m at the point now where I want to just cut the rest of my relaxed hair off but I really want to retain the length! I’m still learning, talking to friends who are natural and watching videos to figure out what works for me.
your hair is beautiful! i love the pfp
BEST transition video I have watched to date. Thank you. Sending you love from Africa ❤
I'm currently transitioning, 16 weeks into it
I love this tutorial... It's fun and I learnt a lot too💃
Love the drawling.
I start my transition tomorrow... tonight I just did a hot oil treatment and I am gonna leave the oil in my hair overnight
I probably have 2a 2b hair (looking at pictures of me as a baby) but I have been treating my hair as though they are straight because I was never told that there was a different way of treating curly hair...I didn't even know there was a thing like conditioner a year back...but I am ready to finally treat my hair the way it should be treated
Same here. I didn't even know about the existence of conditioner since 2 days ago.
You are on point with the mixed texture phase. I am have tried so many different products, I hate my hair right now!
I’m currently transitioning to natural hair and it’s really stressful but this video has given so much hope🤗😍 GREAT video‼️
armys are everywhere 🤭.. same, wish my mom didn't relaxed my hair in the first place but.. we can do it! ✨✨✨
Yesterday I was adventurous and cut about 2 inches.
honestly, best video about transitioning ive seen so far. i wish everyone transitioning would watch this!
I’m fully natural but I really enjoyed this video! I wished I would’ve watched this during my transition! Great content 😊
I needed this video 😩! I’m planning on transitioning for 2019 and I had no idea where to begin. Thank you so much!
Working with 2 hair textures 3 weeks in... pray for me I did not give in to a relaxer yesterday
Watching RUclips is what gave me a name for what I was doing and a whole new vocabulary and product list.lol
I big chopped/tranistioned my hair to the state it's in now.
I am transitioning! Thanks for the great tips! my last relaxer was Feb.26.
I love your videos! Always so informative, please continue to create! 💛
Thank you so much !
My hair has been transitioning for the last 8 months and some days it drives me crazy! Its a lot of work and it seems like it'll take forever before I figure out how to do my hair. But honestly I don't regret going natural. I want my hair to be as crazy and natural as I am on the inside. 😋
Great Video! Older woman transitioning7 months transitioning mingled gray. Thanks for the specific tips.
Currently 5 months natural. My hair is really damaged at the front but I can clearly see the new growth at the back. So I have hope :)
I needed to hear this. 6 months post relaxer and I’m at my wits end. But I’m determined to finished. Big chop will happen in July.
i actually accidentally started transitioning because i wanted my hair to grow a bit so i stopped relaxing it for a couple months with the intention of relaxing it after but the i decided to put my hair in box braids and my hair grew ridiculous amounts and it had never been longer. after doing this for months it grew so much and i lost sight of why i was relaxing my hair in the first place.
Yessss, congrats! 🎈🎉 You got this! Just as excited for you! ☺️💕
CollegeCurls thank you!
i've been transitioning for almost 7 months and it's only been recently that i started watching tutorials on how to take better care of my hair because idk what to do with it anymore. it's mostly been in protective styles because i'm lazy lmfao; i've been doing the least. but this video was really informative and i'm gonna start paying more attention to what my hair needs. thanks sis, you da bomb.
You're wlcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it and that it was helpful in helping you learn more during your transitioning process. 7 months in is HUGE! Congrats! Stick with it and you'll have beautiful curls when you're ready to big chop! :)

@@CourageCurls i'm actually gonna Big Chop™ this week 😬 wish me luck!!
I'm pretty sure i chose de best year to transition. Its been 5 months and only my family has seen my crazy 2 textures
This time is particularly good for transitioning or going natural too in my opinion. Congrats on starting your journey! ^_^ Wishing you the best of luck!
CollegeCurls
Thank you very much, this is very informative. The best transition in video. Thanks for all of your tips and suggestion. Great video!
Hoping I can stick it out 😊
I already chopped my hair even before my natural ends grew long, so now I'm growing two different short hairs, natural and relaxed
Your video has been helpful hopefully it works because I’m trying to let my hair grow out to be natural without chopping
Very detailed, informative and entertaining. This video gave me the confidence to push through with my natural hair journey
Thank you soooo much for this video i have reeealy damaged hair and i did not know howbto ecxactly transition so thank you
You are so welcome, glad I could help! Thank you so much for watching and commenting! :)
So glad you enjoyed it, thank you for watching! 💕 Congrats on your post 7 month - versary ! 🥳
I love this video and very inspirational. I big chop last year, now i don't regret it at all.
My hair use to be long and healthy until I fucked it up with all those chemicals, now I'm trying to go natural hoping to get my hair healthy again. My back broke off and sides and it's a pain. I'm thinking of doing a big chop to start over. But this video really helped thank you.
I LOVE THE VIDEO!!!!!! AWESOME DEMO!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you! 💕
I did the big chop and I'm so happy my hair was so damage
I just found your channel and I just want to say keep putting out more videos I’m gone tell people to come subscribe cause I love how you break everything down so you can understand it more
Such a cute video! I loved watching you draw. Please make more. I transitioned for 9momths while pregnant then big chopped when my daughter was born.
Very helpful to newbies like me that just started transitioning!! Quick and strait to the point and i love ls the illustrations!
After watching this video I chopped 3 inches off to help my transitioning and after cutting it i realized a big difference already! this video was helpful
I am 9 months and gonna go to 2 years. Still strong.
j_ bubblez Okayyyy, you betta!! 👏🏾👏🏾
I just made a year I'm doing two years maybe 2 1/2 stay strong girl 🤗
once upon a walking dead PLL same
3 weeks CG and i have short hair. I am going to grow my hair to my shoulders and keep it that length and wait until the colour has grown out. Enjoyed your video as you explained it well with pictures.
Thank you so much :) Glad you liked it!
Thank you‼️ Very informative. I haven’t had a relaxer since February 14th and my salon is still closed because of COVID-19. So I think I’m already transitioning. 🤔 I’ve been doing some research and your video has definitely helped. 👍🏾💕💕💕
Thank you for your support, I’m so glad my video has helped you! 😊 and yes, you’re definitely transitioning. How’s it been going so far?
Blow dryers made my hair break and caused split ends
Tavinte Sinclair me too :(
Try a heat cap 🤷 but only for deep conditioning
Try not blow drying it
same i rarely straighten my hair with flat iron but blow dryer and relaxers is really what damaged my hair
Same! I was natural for years and did a big chop. I then relaxed 3 weeks ago and I sooo regret it. I’ve now decided to transition
Y'all if we didn't have RUclips! I was natural in 2008 but then did everything wrong (hair color, then texlax) and ended up relaxing again for several years then big chopped in 2017. I've learned from my mistakes and will never relax my hair again. I love natural hair.
Best and most helpful video I've found on how to transition to natural hair. Thank you! 🤗
I’m 3 months into transitioning, other people’s stories are really inspiring!
Yay, love to hear it! :)
CollegeCurls I’m 7 months into transitioning now 😅😍
I am a curly girl (I think).
I do like your hair.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!! Gonna be big chopping soon!! 😍 it's been 5 months since my last relaxer and no more of that!!
I just love the art work... I'm an artist myself... nice illustration 🙌 thanks
Thank You so so much.
this is the best transition video I have watched. others discourage me, but this was helpful
I’m on month 2 of transitioning and I’m excited but also scared at the same time. Right now I have large box braids in as a protective style.
WOOP WOOP! 2 motnhs is a HUGE accomplishment - congrats! :) I transitioned for 9 months, so I definitely understand the excitement and nerves involved. Keep it up though, it's well worth the wait, work, and reward! I've never had box braids but REALLY want to try some this year
Just do it! This pandemic is the perfect time to transition. You got time and you don't really go out that much.
Well I started a month n I'm feeling so confident...I pray i don't become depressed. My thing is y have damages relaxed hair under all my wigs.. so natural hair is it.
Ps Girllllll u can really draw.
