Why when he pulls away from the mike and stops singing, i can still hear his voice carrying the note??? Is he stealthily dubbing in a live performance from his younger days to make it convincing that he can still sing the same? I've seen other footage lately where he struggles to hit these power notes...

I think it's just the wide echo effect on the vocals. You can hear the repeat on the shorter phrase ends where he runs down the scale.
