You have a real gift ..as I go Farther down the worm hole trying to learn more about metal casting I start to realize I’ve been watching the wrong people.. not only do you know what your talking about but your are also a great craftsman .. thank you for your videos 👊🏻
Yep, I just watched this twice. Your videos are simply amazing. Not sure how I made it to 44 years old and JUST NOW learned a super simple way to find the center of any circle.
Any time you log on and find a Brian Oltrogge video in your notifications is a good day 😃 Outstanding work as always Brian. I'm floored by your attention to detail, and the quality of the work you produce.
Man, I'm mesmerized when I watch your videos ... The details and the attention you put in them is admirable. And the best of all is that you explain what, when and why you are doing it and what will happen if you don't. Keep the good work, amazing as always!
Welcome back Brian, have not seen any new video out for a while till this video, Love it & want to see more of it! You got yourself a like & a share & 5 golden stars. See ya next time :)
another awesome project. Once i get some spare time and my own home, i hope to setup a foundry like yours to be able to do aluminium casting. Thanks for the awesome videos
watching some of Brian's videos, the petrobond sand is much, much more higher resolution compared to the sodium silicate sand, this time he went for the SS sand because of the rougher texture it gives. It can also be a bit harder to work with unless you have a bottle of CO2 at the ready with a funnel so you can cure the sand. When i come time to doing casting, i will be trying to use Petrobond as it gives a much nicer finish, and i don't require CO2 to set it. Petrobond can generally be also reused. there are a few videos on youtube that show people who have made petrobond mixers as it requires oil and something else (can't remember off the top of my head) hence the "petro" at the front of it. it clumps together a bit like clay, but doesn't have the moisture as when hot metals hit moisture, they can cause explosions :). Hope this helps
Petrobond hands down. It will recreate your finger print if you leave it in the mold. Sodium silicate is easier to deal with if you don't care about surface finish and have a difficult pattern.
+Joshua Middleton I actually sort of looked forward to it since I knew I didn't have to film it :). It came out slightly nicer but I knew I was only going to show one of the casts.. thanks!
Out of all the casting channels, this one beats the rest with flying colors! I have never seen such a perfect casting before. Maybe use them to make a cool Go-Kart or something?
This is an awesome video, now you just have to make another video showing how to mold some rubber like material onto the surface of those wheels. Please, thumbs up Brian.
You can powder the talcum very well using a wide flour sifter. I have a 9 piece set and usually i follow the rule that 'the sifter size should be matching a least one of the lengths of the mold'. Gives a perfect powdery surface from 3 knocks or so.
Nice idea on using that silicate sand to add that texture. It's also my biggest problem that I end up with flat and even surfaces, that are too perfect to see it's a casting.. I really think Brian and Myfordboy are the gods of RUclips-casting..
Your casting videos are awesome, I hope I can take a stab at this one day so inspiring. Nice job love the texture on the metal the results flawless as always.
great work and very entertaining. I note that you use a funnel shaped pouring basin. the current thinking is that these pouring basins entrap air and oxide into the melt and induce turbulence into the flow. There are basin designs simply built that includes a weir that allow a better pour as described in the "OldFoundryman" videos in accordance with James Campbell , I believe. they also have narrow sprue's so that they are completely full when pouring. please look into them, they have some merit. but them if it works, it works.
I would have used poplar perfect plank as it is more stable. You can cut the whole thing without the need for sanding afterwards. Just cut from the top of the radius created from the ball cutter to the parting line with a flat endmill and it's done. To keep it from flying away when it cuts free,,,,, oh never mind. I have been a pattern maker for 30 years. What you did is fine. They look great.
So ......................? .... you just did this for fun? That's amazing to me. BTW, this video 'showed up' in my recommended videos and this is the first of your videos I've seen. Looking forward to the others.
never seen home casting alumunium as clean as yours. well done. i really want to try casting at home but it scare me when i see injury feet caused by that liquid aloy.
Until minute 1:40, i thought that is real rim for car..ha..ha..when he start remove the excess using saw, then i know it is not but it looks so cute...nice job bro...
Hello Excellent work from the best RUclips professionals deserves all thanks and praise Allow me to ask you to make a Berner, which you used, with all the details, and even more since you. I hope to know the details of your pliers because I see you as one of the best professionals in the implementation of work. Thank you
Thanks Brian... love to see you working on camera again... beautiful project and hopefully you will show us where those "rims" end up when you find the time? ;) Take care and stay well!
I used to do a separate video for making the pattern, CNC etc... Few people watched them. I am trying not to do multi part these days... :) I think it forces a better pace for most people. That said, I enjoy 45 minute youtube videos, most don't it seems.
I enjoy them as well. Your average TV show is 25 and 45 minutes long; and I like to get the step-by-step instruction. However, all said and done, you make great videos that myself and my kids enjoy watching. Thank you for what you do!
I just love that you went to all that trouble without having a purpose for the wheels at all.
Pure craftsmanship - a joy to watch.

I love you videos. Your voice is perfect for narration. I feel like I am watch an old Disney video on how stuff was made.
Have you watched The Proper People? They have a good narrating voice too
Lots of good casting practices in this video ! Especially like your sprue funnel thing and custom pouring "tongs"
wow brian, new materials, new techniques... you're becoming a master.
Very good. So much work. Your attention to detail shows in the finished casting.
Its hard to come by people who document their work so magnificently, cheers man!
Every part is detailed and to the point.

+ajistewart You bet! Thanks for the comment!
Brian Oltrogge after using silicate sand what do u think is much better silicate sand or petrobond sand quality wise ?
watching some of Brian's videos, the petrobond sand is much, much more higher resolution compared to the sodium silicate sand, this time he went for the SS sand because of the rougher texture it gives. Petrobond hands down. It will recreate your finger print if you leave it in the mold. Sodium silicate is easier to deal with if you don't care about surface finish and have a difficult pattern.
Can either of these sands be reused to make another casting form or are they single use only?
Excellent videos as always Mr Brian .....
Ok. That is the coolest forge I've ever seen. Very nice work.
Oh yeah, good job on the forging also.
Cool project as always Brian !
What a beautiful and clean job, amazing as always. Your videos are in the top level.
+Nemesis01100 Thanks!
ruclips.net/video/9CXhXoSiwQ8/видео.html
That was well done! And thanks for putting a comment on why sodium silicate.
Thanks for the great video. Great story telling of an industry process. Cheers.
I can o my imagine how much it sucked to repeat the entire mold for another wheel. That is so much work. Beautiful result.
+Joshua Middleton I actually sort of looked forward to it since I knew I didn't have to film it :). It came out slightly nicer but I knew I was only going to show one of the casts.. thanks!
Geez, Brian, even your sprues are beautiful. Great video as always.
+Thomas Utley If I had a lathe, I'd make some salt and pepper shakers out of them!
Yet another amazing video. Thanks Brian. Really enjoyed watching it.

Absolutely amazing, my new fav channel - perfect blend of skills and video production - it doesn´t get any better than this!!!!!
Nice workmanship.
The amount of work that went into this video is quite incredible. Good work mate. Cheers.
+ssplintergirl Thank you!
appreciate the level you bring to the table. Thank you
Man, you really did a fine job on those. I like the funnel with CO2 fed in used to flash cure the sand. Even the master forms are attractive.
Really like the way you work...
Great job!
Pure Magic. Every moment was InTeReStiNg. Thank you...
Wow! Those look awesome. Great job!
+RetroWeld Thanks man!

You sir, need much more subs! Underrated channel for sure
Wao, thanks a lot! I learn a lot with your videos!! So useful and entertaining information not about saying the really nice work there
That was very cool! And I think you can officially call it a deep dish wheel now. ;)
You can powder the talcum very well using a wide flour sifter. I have a 9 piece set and usually i follow the rule that 'the sifter size should be matching a least one of the lengths of the mold'. Gives a perfect powdery surface from 3 knocks or so.
I always look forward to see your creations... you are an inspiration man.
Thanks For Sharing, very complete video of whole process!!
Super awesome Brian!!!😊😊👊👊 maybe one day soon I'll make a crucible!!😊💪🏻💪🏻Thank you for sharing brother!!

the wooden molds are quite beautiful just on their own.
Looks like a totaly safe hobby :D
awesome job . I think they would look a little more old school if they were painted green ,but that's just me . can't wait to see more
I really enjoy and learn from your videos. They inspire my own shop activities. Any more videos planned?

I have a perfect use for something like that. I'll have to steal your idea and make a set!
Amazing work I'm definitely subscribing
Man, you are my favorite youtuber. I wish I could do a portion of the things you do. I love your channel.

I love these projects! Keep doing them! (I'm just sad that you skipped so much of the CNC'ing; that's one of my favorite parts! :) Thanks for sharing!
