    ◆Our Digital Book◆
THE SECRETS OF THE JAPANESE MIND- Demystifying the Japanese psyche towards life, gender, love, sex and more.
    payhip.com/b/eBk45
Based on my decade-plus years of experience living in Japan, our book will mainly be of fruit for reaching two goals:
1.Maximizing utility that is to be had in a Japanese setting, or a setting composed of Japanese people, by being able to understand why they do what they do (rather than take the path of just complaining of how they think and do things so differently)
2.Avoid the years of trial-and-error and pain in which I had to personally face when bonding and interacting with people from the island nation, composed of individuals whose psychological framework was by far the most idiosyncratic to that of people from any other country where I’ve lived in (South Korea, UK, Australia, China, Malaysia, etc)
    ---
    [IMPORTANT NOTICE]
This video is a re-upload of one of our previous videos.
To know why we decided to re-upload the video, please read the Community Post below in which we have posted yesterday.
    Thank you.
    ---
    Hey everyone, AL here.
    Hope everyone is doing well.
We wanted to respectfully let our subscribers know first, that our previous video-
Girls Standing In The Middle of Tokyo to Sell Themselves.. Japan Has A Serious Developing Problem.
will soon be deleted, and be re-uploaded in a few hours after some revisions on the content that will make the video suitable for runnings Ads.
This is as many of you may already know, although the video received more than 1.3 million views at this point (thank you all for watching), we could not monetize any of it due to the demonetization of the video.
And although we initially chose not to re-upload our video as some of our subscribers have suggested, from this point onwards, we will delete, revise and re-upload the demonetized videos as done by many other RUclipsrs, as soon as we get the demonetization flag.
Our Channel is stuck algorithmically at the moment. We are currently undergoing a phenomenon where the majority of our videos come from returning subscribers, which can be interpreted as both good and bad.
It is good in that many viewers who come across our videos enjoy our content, and are here to stay.
But the majority of views mostly coming from returning subscribers can also be a bad sign in that our Channel is almost like an isolated island, where new viewers (unsubscribed) do not receive much exposure to our content.
And after research, we have discovered that having videos on the channel in which RUclips has given the yellow (demonetization) flag for not being suitable for Ads, may have a negative impact on the exposure of the Channel to the larger audience, turning it into more of a niche channel.
We spend so much of our time and energy in creating original content (I dare say original, because we really do go out of our way to make sure that our videos are not of content that is repeated around on the English-speaking side of RUclips),
and as much as passion is what is driving us as of current without much compensation, we really cannot continue on with our RUclips journey with the current algorithm exposure that we have been having, so am attempting to do everything that we can in the hopes of fixing this.
So we appreciate your understanding, and if you can, please click the like button on the re-uploaded video once it goes live tomorrow. It would really help our channel a lot, and make the content in which we have spent so much time and energy creating, not go to waste.
    Thank you.
    Al & Helen

Just to clarify, some of the woman standing outdoors are not necessarily sex workers, but staff of concafe's and girls bars and are promoting customers to go over to their bar. It's just a drinks bar with the girls as bartenders and is not sex work. You can identify this usually by them holding a sign stating the name or price of their bars. For people watching this video, please don't instantly assume every girl standing outside is a sex worker.

I understand how Host cafes can be addicting. I visited japan for a week and was in an area with a lot of girls standing around in maid or other costumes. I was approached by a girl dressed in a cute wizard/mage costume. She spoke perfect English which caught me off guard and brought me to her cafe which had a magic theme to it. We basically had a conversation for an hour while sharing french fries and juice. Nice girl and there was zero hints of anything romantic or sexual but it was nice just chatting with a beautiful stranger. I can’t remember how much I spent but I’m sure it was more than actual cost of fries and juice. Very respectful and casual environment. I can imagine someone staying in the area longer who is super lonely would easily spend a lot of money just to chat there and have snacks.

it's also because making a genuine connections takes work, hard work and communication that most people do not have the mental capacity/emotional availability to exert themselves on :(( it's sad because even though we all want the same thing, it's easy to turn tail and run at the first sign that there may be something we don't like about a person and, instead of working through those issues, just run to the next person in line and do it all over again... it's a never-ending cycle and it happens all the time, both irl and on dating apps :( i can understand why these girls would fall for someone who is seemingly perfect, because they are trained to present themselves as the 'perfect partner' without any intention of remaining that way for the long term.

@@pinktobio And to exacerbate this endless search for the perfect partner and bailing at the first signs of turbulence, there are very loud and very bitter groups in social media that want their brothers/sisters to absolutely loath of the opposite sex with them, so there's a lot of poisoning of the well so to speak. I'm a forever single, 36 year old virgin. The algorithm sends me all sorts of "men good, women awful" content. "Incel" shit. I like what I hear sometimes, because I am hurting, but I KNOW all I'm getting are curated clips that say what I want to hear to make me feel better and frankly present the weakest defense for women, often clearly misandrists.
Unfortunately, I can only hope it's as deeply insulting to any other lonely man as it was to me when they see through the curated farce tearing the sexes apart. But it is hard, it is REALLY hard to move things back together because everyone is waiting for the other to make the first move, and worse, hoping it's not someone they don't want anywhere near them, which unfortunately, is an unreasonably large portion of the population. Because whether anyone admits to it or not, attractiveness really is the difference between desirable and creepy when making the approach.

I wonder who forbade men to initiate with women and to flirt with them, by calling all of this communication channel that the two sexes have between them "sexual harassment", and punishing thousands of guys unjustly. Who declared that the relations between the two sexes are oppression and abuse and announced that all relations between the two sexes should end, calling this "liberation and equality", then actively worked to achieve that goal of ending the relations between the sexes by forbidding sexual-romantic flirting first at work, then in college, then in bars ("taking the night back") and finally in any public place, until there was left no place for the two sexes to have sexual-romantic flirting as before and match up. Who has been teaching for 20 years hundreds of millions from one of the two sexes to say "I don't need a ****" (**** = the other sex) until finally in 2023 the most listened to song with over 600 million downloads online was "I can buy myself flowers I can talk to myself for hours I can hold my own hand", after as early as 15 years ago a song with the main line being "I don't need a ****" (**** = the other sex) gained hundreds of millions of views. Hmm. So mysterious why there's a loneliness pandemic. What movement did that? Intentionally? After declaring it wants to achieve just that and acting publicly to reach this goal, while also distorting research data to say that "members of the sex we are operating in are HAPPIER alone"? With clear successes within the sex it was operating in, in convincing them to adopt its way and turn their back on the other sex - to which the other sex had no other choice but responding when left alone with "I don't want to die alone but if you, the other sex, say you don't need me and want to be alone, I have no choice but to plan how to live on my own"? So mysterious. By the way, whatever movement did and continues to cause that, daily, powerfully, as a hegemony with absolute power in the media and in culture as well as in government, it's not an equality movement - equality has only one name and that name is universal humanism, and every other movement that pretends to be "the equality movement of all humankind" but that focuses only on one human category is called racism, and is premised on hate, and yes, when a society follows hate instead of love it can get rather lonely.

Loneliness makes people ignore red flags and live in fantasy. They're so lonely that they find it easier to live in hope of "what could be". But when you're lonely, bored or hungry, that's when you should protect yourself the most and pay attention. There will always be people looking to take advantage of you at your times of weakness.

      @finnfreudenberg5568 7 месяцев назад +106

I don't think its helpful to say a person should pay attention for these things once they reach that point. Thing is, once the tipping point is reached, many are willing to be taken advantage off just to feel less lonely, bored and/or hungry.
I mean at that point life is already miserable, so why bother how it will be a few years later if at least life till then feels better. Worst case one might find the conviction ***** ******** at the point where the consequences of being taken advantage to bad.
Its a shitty situation to be in and i think systemic solution to help people are needed, so it needs to be thought of as a social problem and not a personal problem.

A reason these women might be drawn to hosts is because on the surface, these hosts treat them right. They seem to offer things that many other men will not: actually listening to these women and caring about them. In reality, they probably don't, but since they are trained to be what women look for in a partner, it might be hard for these women to let go.

When we lived together in Tokyo, Shinjuku. I was having trouble finding a job, and just before i found one, he became impatient with me and made me cry. While I was crying, a job interview called my phone and i couldn't answer, i broke down and showed anger.. he got out of bed and began to hit me, i was pinned on the floor and thought i was going to die.
Neither of us knew it at that moment, I was pregnant with his child.
Yes, i know my actual youth sounds like a bad movie.
I am now a single mother living in Australia.
He was a persuasive young man, convincing me we will be married but making no action and being completely absent. So, very soon after I had my child, i realised the lie and chose to cut off the abusive father and move on.
I kept some contact with his very wealthy and kind parents, however I stopped contact with them when child became 3, due to the shame around this whole situation.

I lived in Japan for a decade in the '80s. My default attitude to my environment is 'why are things like this?', followed by 'is there a better way?' I had plenty to think about while I was in Japan, and eventually returned to the UK because I found the coercive nature of the society too suffocating. People behaved in ways that were entirely rigid and which caused serious psychological injury to themselves and others, but which they couldn't explain, gain insight into, or modify. No moral criticism of the changing manifestations of Japanese society is permitted, especially by outsiders, who by definition have zero qualifications to speak up. Japanese ways and sensibilities must always come first, and society at large is the ultimate moral guide. You challenge it at your peril. My conclusion was that Japanese society has no moral anchor. This is by design, as it makes the average person powerless to fight back against any manipulation that's presented as 'traditional' or 'uniquely Japanese.' Women in particular are not trained to be vigilant against this kind of exploitation. They are meant to be a blank slate with no plans of their own. Most of them marry the first person who asks them, in a kind of 'sleeping beauty' scenario. I think that the deep taboo against individual autonomy explains many aspects of Japanese society, including how these lonely women get trapped and seem unable to extricate themselves by the application of some elementary logic. I was also very interested to see how androgynous these hosts look, but that's another subject!

All societies manipulate and exploit their citizens just as japan does, the west included but using different tactics. It all begins in the school system, designed to remove a child's natural curiosity and love of learning to dis empower them as citizens so they can't challenge the governments system of control. Con\/id incidentally was simply the introduction of a new control system.

There is a similar concept in Germany called "boyfriend method" roughly translated, Idk how common it is, but it does happen. There are no hosts clubs here, however, guys who pretend to be boyfriends to young girls only to "p*mp" them out and blackmail them does happen. There was a case of a girl in her last year of HS, who essentially ended up being blackmailed and had to work for her "boyfriend". The guy isolated her from friends and family, moved her into his flat and had recordings of her which he threatened to send to her school/family/etc... The guy was caught by police who listened in on his phone calls where he made fun of her and was coordinating with other guys. If I remember correctly, he also had more than one woman he was doing this to. These guys are known to prey on "unpopular" girls or girls who are desperate/lonely/have mental health issues/etc... . They give them attention and love they've never experienced and then after some some lie and say that they are being threatened by other "bad guys" that they need to pay off a debt or the "bad guys" will attack them. It's all lies to get the women/girls to work for them of course.

I have been here a week on holiday with 2 friends and whenever we decided to take the days to ourselves i can 100% understand that insufferable loneliness. And it was only a few days for me of that, which prompted me to go chasing festivals and lively bars. The loneliness in Tokyo is insufferable. To think these people live with it day on day for years, no wonder they become so vulnerable. I even entered a British style pub hoping to have some conversations, as broken or awkward as they may be, and no one was sitting at the bar. It was all people entering as groups and sticking to their group. That is not a British pub after sundown. There are no pool tables or dart boards, the TV is only on for daytime football. It's just upsetting. Even Karaoke, there's no karaoke where you can go in and get a room for people who have no care for who they're with. If you want that it's an expensive organised online booking. It seems so counterintuitive to limit people like this to one off establishment cultures and work for their entire social life.

God, I'm in the US in a town where people just, don't talk to each other. You're either part of an established social group or you're entirely alone. It's soul-crushing! There's something especially sickening about the fact that you can go out and be around people, and yet you're still alone; an isolation, an alienation that cuts straight to the center of the heart.
People need people. And wherever people stop reaching to one another, especially to those we don't know, intense and silent suffering follows.
I don't know what to do about it. My community is in thorough disconnect and I'm sure I'm not the only one hurting. I figure, a change might start with me. Maybe something simple, like a walking group in the park that's based more in socialization and meeting new people than actual walking. We need big changes in this city, in this whole region really, and wider talks about loneliness; but tangible change may require a thousand tiny, community changes to start.

Women standing outside to sell their bodies isn’t a purely Japanese problem. I don’t know about other countries, but here in Germany many cities have what’s publicly known as a „Strich“ or „Straßenstrich“, where there are women doing exactly this. They are not standing as close to each other like in the examples shown in this video, but it’s a lot of the same problems. Though the majority of the women standing there are foreigners and a lot of they are typically forced into this business because of drug addiction rather than loneliness, though there are also a lot of women who got „caught“ by their „boyfriends“ in another country and got sent to Germany, where they are then integrated into some pimp‘s business, so the abusive romantic relationship part of this phenomenon also exists here.

From my understanding herbivore men actually didn't start as a response to some wave of feminism but rather people being tired of toxic work culture in Japan and in a way there it's actually men who went on strike first. So actually talking about this issue in Japan, I'd be much more saddened by people being in this situation. Many dont do it to buy fancy bags or party wild but because of society doing nothing to help them ( I remeber even seeing videos about kids forced to run from home ending up working in adult industry, here, where I live this scenario is usually minimal, most do it because why date average men, when you can be rich mans escort and rake in cash your male counterpart never will untill he's 35 )

My friend had told me how much money to bring, but when I was leaving it wasn't enough, so she paid the rest. Another friend forbade me from coming to her bar. We were young and just playing around after they finished work and off days. I don't know what kinds of stuff went on inside their bars, but my friends would go on dates with customers and the customers gave them gifts and money, which was nice for me because my friends often paid for drinks and stuff. To some extent it is the same thing, but possibly worse. They were just guys who wanted to be appreciated even if it wasn't real. The reason I think that it might be worse is that I moved to the Sates, and about five years later a woman was nice to me. It was so jarring that I thought that she was hitting on me, and more so than the other woman who had been hitting on me in the previous five years, but she was just a nice person. Thank you so much for this. I've only recently learned about how big of a problem male host clubs have become here in Japan. You handled this subject with such empathy and compassion towards the victims. As a church worker in Japan, I have been more and more compelled to start something to help the Japanese youth to find a way to develop real healthy relationships with others so they won't be easily lured by exploitative and abusive pseudo relationships. I live in the countryside so there isn't much of a red light district here. But I do notice that there is very little chance or space for the Japanese youth to find normal, healthy ways to socialize outside of school. So when they graduate high school or university, they get sucked in the working world and their social life takes a nose dive. They become increasingly depraved of time with real friends and this can lead some to find ways to feel loved or cared for. It's heartbreaking how this is becoming more and more widespread and deep seated...

Isn't this just the female side of male prostitution?
    - lonely men,
    - desperately infatuated men,
    - men with an itch for "service"
are all the same versions from the male side looking for female "services".
The females have to perform good to keep the clients coming and spending the money.
I don't see how this is so different. What is surprising is that some females will end up in the same "services" industry. That is a strange pipeline.
Human sadness out in the open. Hopefully, everything can develop respectfully and the people who are being manipulated can find support elsewhere to break free from it. The youth has to primed against this manipulative behavior but you cannot do this by living a sheltered life. The example case is of a countryside girl with no countermeasures aginst manipulation and primed by the coldness of the city. Japan has got to get a bunch of seriously minded people to break the cycle of dehumanization indirectly caused by a culture of .... shame? I don't know actually. These are issues for the smarter and older people to solve. There has to be some cultural movement that can save them from the apathy, loneliness, desperation and still promote mating, babies and families. This materialism is slowly killing every country regardless of their developmental stage and geographic location.

There is also an issue with this type of human trafficking. People, as a generalisation, tend to only take seriously human trafficking that involves some kind of kidnapping or the removal of their documents.
Without further details, identifying this as either "sex work" or "trafficking" is very hard and grey. But this situation also puts them in that precarious position.
People will say they are stupid, it is their fault, they have no sympathy, etc etc. A lot of these people who say such things have never experienced that kind of emotional manipulation and are not well versed in it. They don't know that most people in the world are susceptible to some con or another, and if they hear they they will not believe it. They believe heavily in "personal responsibility" and do not recognise that people with their mindsets, who insist they would never be a victim, are actually frequently victims.
We could all stand to have more empathy. Most of us have felt a degree of loneliness, but most of us have been very lucky that no one ever took advantage of that loneliness like that. Loneliness can be extremely debilitating for a highly social animal like a human.
Act and speak with kindness first.

I was in Japan nearly 2 months ago for around 10 days, a trip around Japan with the Shinkansen. Tokyo was the last stop before heading back home. Japan is such an awesome country, the people are so friendly, respectful and nice to each other and so rich in culture and cuisine.
I did not visited the red light district in Tokyo, but noticed the a lot of young women standing at the streets of Akihabara and advertising for a girls bars or maids cafés on the streets. Sure, they are not sex workers, but it made me feel highly uncomfortable to see those young women in maid dresses standing on the street for the whole day. I was like an hour in Akihabara, roaming around the streets, having a look into a few shops and had to leave because I felt so wrong to be there in that area that is tailored to be an otaku paradise.
I know Japan is the land of the extremes, on one hand one of the friendliest and cleanest lands, int the other hand the land with a lot of social issues and pressure on the people. That pressure starts on early age with the school to perform extremely well, followed by the pressure at work and universities. That pressure have its negative side effects of people developing social issues like depression, social isolation and even can lead to suicide if they can't hold against that pressure.
The weird thing in Japan is the vast amount of kanji character that you have to learn in order to read anything in Japan, instead of using the easier syllabaries like Hiragana and Katakana or latin characters. You basicly have to keep learning new kanji characters for your whole life. Not that widely known kanji have the meaning in syllables on top, but well, for learners of kanji and Japan language it's not that easy.
Back to the main topic, forced sex workers are not a Japan only thing, this is a worldwide issue. I don't have anything again sex workers, because it's their job, but only if they have chosen to do this job without the pressure of someone forcing them.

These young men “hosts” are actually nothing more than pimps, at least that is essentially what they would be here in the Western world, as they fill the same role as a pimp, and they treat the young women exactly the same, as a source of revenue, while they relax and enjoy the fruits of their women’s “work” by taking all of the money.
This is a terrible way to treat young women in any society, and I would expect that some solution could be found to prevent this from happening to the young women in Japan, and in South Korea as well as other countries and societies, as I suspect that this also happens in China as well.
People exploiting people is found everywhere around the world, however, in this modern world in which we all live now, this behaviour should be prevented somehow.
    Thanks for sharing!
Please have an excellent and awesome day!

Thank you so much for making this video and for your compassion for these women. So many men, the world over, view women as solely an object for their own sexual gratification because they find them physically attractive. But they forget that underneath that there is a living breathing human being that has thoughts, feelings, dreams and a right to live their lives unmolested and to be treated with dignity and respect as a fellow human being. It boggles my mind how many men don't seem to understand that simple concept. I am glad, sir, that you do. God bless you.

So glad I'll would never have these kind of problems. Covid lock down was the best time in my life. Not needing to interact with people is awesome. Back when I was in high school I had to be like everyone else to fit in, make friends, hang out with with people and it drained so much energy. After entering university, everyone was split up at different uni doing different things so finally I was free. I appear at my lectures often 5min -10min late and I'll be the first one out of there running home asap. I don't want to give any chances for anyone to talk to me lol. I lie about my class time often to avoid hanging out with people. But always have to fake being people friendly because I don't want to come off as a weirdo or have people think I don't like them. I just hate socialising that's all. I can never understand why most people crave attention, friendship or family. I actively try to distance myself from then. To me I make better friends online because we only need to talk about common interests, music, art, anime, games so on. They don't know me in real life and I don't know them it's perfect. No gossips too which is the biggest waste of time. I just love watching tv, playing video games, learning different things like art, craft, documentary. There's not enough time to do all of that plus work making a living. I don't know how anyone has time to spare for socialising. I can't remember the last time I met or hangout with friends. I only go out alone to do things I want and I am very efficient at that. Head to where I want to heard to, look at or buy what I want then straight home. I love keeping to myself and living in Japan was the best. One big annoying down side is actually there are a lot of religious people trying to get you to join their church. It's really annoying. People come knocking on your door!!

thank you for bringing attention to this in an objective, sympathetic way that makes it clear what the problem Is and Why it's a problem, and for adding in the fuller understanding of host clubs. i'm so angry for so many reasons. as a friend of several sex workers, i'm already heartbroken to see SWs who didn't make the decision themselves, but were forced or manipulated into it; it's such a different experience, and nobody deserves to be put in that position. as a fan of host clubs and the like myself, i'm outraged on behalf of the good clubs that rightfully keep a final distance between themselves and the guests; it's important for both sides' safety, and this kind of shitty behavior is such a slap in the face to the entire concept of hosting. and of course it's ALWAYS infurating to see livestreamers using "i bother someone at work" as their content, even before the shitty position these girls are in. it's all so!!! I've had relations with a number of Korean women, being an American, and one of the biggest complaints I heard from women was exactly as mentioned here. Men are all sweet and kind during courtship, but as soon as the wedding is over, she is basically ignored and all the man does is work and drink and expect her to take care of everything else, house, bills, shopping, cleaning, birthing and raising kids. They feel there's absolutely zero emotional connection or investment and they feel betrayed. Korean women will never admit it (particularly due to the Asian culture of 'saving face') and image being everything, but behind closed doors, married Korean women are resentful, in a lot of pain, and more than happy to experience intimacy with someone else. People complain that Asian men cheat a lot... well.. I can tell you from experience that even married Asian women are no exception, and will not hesitate as long as they know they can trust you and you can provide the intimacy they desperately need. Just don't expect them to divorce for you or even acknowledge you publicly. You will always be a dark secret meant to be forgotten afterward.

In Japan and Germany people are very reserved, you do not talk to strangers or make eye contact with strangers unless absolutely necessary, very unlike say in Spain, or the UK. Both countries, Japan and Germany were the losers of WWII, and the victors, UK and US, have been waging a psychological war on these countries ever since to prevent a national identity ever again. This is probably just a small side issue, but maybe not.
