Biologically, people's brains are wired to be a certain way, but studies show that life experience, environment and other components have a bigger weight when it comes to a person's characteristics. Most people that get bullied go through it during their childhood, one of the most important development stages for humans psychologically so YES everything that happens during childhood will have an impact on you when you grow up. Even if some bully victims grow up to be good people, they still grow to develop other issues that limit them from actually living a good and plentyful life. Schools need to take bullying more seriously, and show better forms of support for their students.

People such as Kanna Asanuma ARE THE REASON why we DO NOT take mental health seriously. I've said this basic fact of life time and time again, for YEARS, nearly a full decade and a half of my young, 20-something-year-old life dealing with mentally ill people at my school, my college and in my own family. It's best to take the 36th Strategem and leave them to the dogs at this stage. They can not be allowed to leech compassion and empathy from the naive, the deluded and the gullible. Teenagers and young adults don't end up this way simply because "they're just delinquents", that's just an easy way for people to not think too much on the issue. I believe that all of this is a result on Kanna's home life and daily social interactions. I'm going off assumption that she was abused or neglected in some way by her family when she was young due to her being associated with papakatsu's and she wouldn't have abandoned nor burn her own children. She has also been bullied by boy's playing with her feelings and being terrible to her which is all unexcusable, which led to her being this way. But that also doesn't excuse her own behavior, she has the choice to not steal, cheat, and run away fromm her problems regardless of that "urge". She knows what she's doing, if she didn't then it wouldn't have escalated so quickly. Her ex-husband and his family did continue to enable her behavior for allowing her to stay at their home despite her nearly financially ruining their lives by stealing and racking debt under their names. People around her abused her and enabled her bad behavior, and the "It can't be helped" phrase really came true to her being someone who literally cannot be helped unless something tragic happens to her (and even then for how many henious acts she's commited, who knows if that'd really impact her to the point of change?). Though i don't know too much about Mako mentioned at the end of the video, she ran away from her abusive father in search for something better in life. That could mean that Mako knew what was good and bad and she chose to try to save herself unlike Kanna who remained delusional. Mako had a terrible home life but maybe had decent social life (whether online or irl) to get herself out of the situation and Kanna didn't. To me the solution is to raise kids better by families being their childrens support system who actually care for them and don't condone/tolerate destructive behaviors. Even if their family is their biological one and is a found family (like a community or friend group), this is what should be done.
What I am about to say is not for her but for the whole "bad kids had traumatized childhood thing" that is 🐄💩that many in fact "therapist" take advantage of that and try to help them avoid accountability but at the same time to victimize them in the eyes of the world in order to look like they did a great job so they can attract more costumers (and i managed to fish several therapist into admitting that in private conversations). Obviously there are exceptions to the rule but the majority of bullies, abusive or degenerate people is the exact opposite reasons, they were raised spoiled and entitled but when the shit hits the fan or they get find out or someone fights back they then proceed to play the victims and give and even fabricate sob stories to get pity and get away with it. Not only you can search it in more depth if you are really interested (can't share links, every time I do YT takes my comment down) in fact cause over the years more and more of these kind of cases proved down the road that the so called "victims of rough childhood" had a hell of a lot of good childhood I also have seen it many times in my line of work (Private security services) with many people do all that and even going above and beyond to falsify evidence to avoid the consequences of their actions. I had a cousin who was extremely spoiled but her home life was TOXIC…she had no balance so throughout her entire life she has made terrible life choices and odd behavior. It's absolutely true that cause-and-effect creates delinquent children. Some teenagers also choose terrible decisions because humans make terrible decisions and it's that simple. How many well-loved and well-liked middle-class "regular" dudes start acting like hoodrats because they think it's cool? THOUSANDS. I saw many of those at college/uni. They had no reason except their freedom of choice and it feels good. Their fathers and mothers loved them, but getting laid, being a "badboy" and being intoxicated surrounded by woman giving them attention makes them feel good. Not every single bad person can say "it was my upbringing". What upbringing would cause you to give birth to a child and BURN IT ALIVE IN PUBLIC? For God's sake... there is a balance. Some people are made that way, some choose to be that way, and most are a mixture of the two.
I think that is often true but not always. My older brother for example. We had the same family, same parents. I am not aware of any abuse that he suffered (maybe something happened that I don't know about), and we had really good and nice parents. Me and my other siblings all turned out ok, but he has always had impulse issues and no regard for other people. We never knew why. My parents tried everything to help him including therapy, medication, rehab, etc. but he continues to make awful choices and hurt people. We have always said it almost seems like he has something wrong with his brain because he had a good, fairly healthy childhood but continues to act this way.
I have been exposed to way worst bullying than she faced (every single school day, no rest, constant harrassement) and it only stopped when I was 17yo. There is no excuses to do things like she did. Your backstory doesnt allow you for crimes.
As a girl who was bullied and sexually assaulted in middle school, I didn't go on to do the things she did. But that doesn't mean it wouldn't have made a horrible scar on her psyche, since she's not me or you. That said, that's no excuse for what she did. We can just see it as one part of a bigger whole. For me, my experience is one part of a bigger whole. I can't open myself to anyone irl. The thought terrifies me to this day, because when I sought for help, my parents called me a liar and laughed at me, saying I wanted attention. I haven't hurt anyone. I've never broken the law. I will always support others in bad situations, but I can't offer myself to anyone, making my experience back then as a part of a whole. And you still carry your situation with you, as one part of your whole, and it defines traits in you. It doesn't mean it's responsible for anything wrong that you do to others, but it's still there. It still is a part of the puzzle that is you.

This is just an observation from a non-Japanese person: In regards of the "Tokyoko Kids" I think generalizing these kids and associating them with this Kanna individual is maybe not a good way to think of them. Probably, the majority of the toyoko kids can be helped. Kanna, more than likely has a personality disorder such as "antisocial personality disorder". She tics off a lot of the criteria for being a "Sociopath", the lying, stealing, identity theft, ect... I would wager to say that most of the toyoko kids are normal kids who come from abusive or unstable homes, and can be helped to become good members of society.

Dude, that is not kleptomania! When I was at a kid's clinic and my parents were talking to the physicians about my brother I often got to play on the playground with all the kids from the psych ward, among others. One of the girls there had kleptomania, but she never stole anything big or important. You could bet she'd take small toys, sparkly stones and pens if they were lying around without even consciously thinking about it, but if you asked her whether she had 'found' something you were missing she always returned it. Usually she couldn’t even tell why she put it in her pocket. She grabbed forks and candy bars and name tags. She never planned her little thefts or went for people's valuables like wallets on purpose, and if she did pick up something valuable it was more of a coincidence (I know she picked up a wedding ring off the window sill in the lady's toilet once, but later turned it in to the nurse, which is really just a case of lost and found). She couldn’t be left alone in a store though since she'd just start putting whatever she took a liking to into her pocket.
It is unfortunate that to see collectivist countries such as Japan under capitalism, leaving troubled young people on the road, due to the absence of proper government resources to help the people and prevent society from decaying.

I was talking about the phenomenon, of young people living on the street and in otherwise unstable situations, not receiving the social services, such as housing, mental health, and other community services, they would need to get on the wrong path. Modern medicine offers various forms of therapy and medication that can help the majority of people with personality disorders, to not fall into distructive patterns of behavior.
@@mx338 Incorrect, Borderline Personality Disorder is part of the greater spectrum of Cluster-B Personality Disorders. In fact, most psychologists recommend that you AVOID people with Cluster-B Personalities on the spot. Not only are they unpredictable, but they also (and this is a consistent pattern with a lot of these individuals) do not view themselves as people with a problem, they think that they are normal people. They also love to control others to gain a significant level of narcissistic supply and fuel for their own cover/self-image. It doesn't help that they prey on the goodwill of others as a tool to satisfy themselves and only themselves. Furthermore, anyone who has to rely on deception and self-deception to function in the real world is by DEFINITION, the type of person who CAN NOT FUNCTION IN THE REAL WORLD. They are destructive people and destructive people who consistently test and frequently break the limits of even well-adjusted, well-meaning people who do not discriminate or stigmatise others for the sake of it. And if you still think that operating in the same Hemisphere with BPD patients and other Cluster-B personalities is a good idea, don't come crying to anyone about the weird and chaotic mess you end up in inevitably by interacting with people with broken social circles. Let it be known that BPD is at the very top of mental illnesses that are patently unfixable, and untreatable and cause the most amount of damage to those who have to deal with them not only on a day-to-day basis but also after they cut ties with them. One other takeaway from this case should be, there should be easier options for giving children up to adoption. In Japan except for Kumamoto prefecture, there's no easy options for giving up a child. If something like baby hatches was more widespread, the babies life would likely haven been saved.

As a casual observer, I think that her very apparent undiagnosed psychopathy was a much bigger factor here, even more so than her alleged kleptomania. I think that this issue was a much more serious problem. It is not normal to leave a baby to die in this manner. There have been cases of women abandoning their child, or to get rid of them out of desperation due to social norms, but to burn them alive? Very few people who are capable of feeling empathy for those around them would be able to carry out such an act so casually, especially to a helpless newborn baby, unless a person was physically threatened and coerced each and every step of the way under terror, or under threat of GRAVE harm, almost as a form of mental torture. It is very clear that she wanted to get rid of the baby, and through the rush of ideas in her mind as to how to do it, there was nothing that stopped her when she landed on this SPECIFIC idea internally, and mentally through her thought process. People like this need to be diagnosed from a very early age to receive therapy needed to mitigate their lifelong condition. This is a mental condition that CANNOT BE CURED. Horrible things can happen in society if these people are not detected and diagnosed early on in life. The problem here is not just the person who committed these crimes, nor just the callous people that sexually abused this child when she was still so young, the problem, the greatest problem is with the society that refuses to fix these problems, and is unable to understand the long term cost in terms of danger, pain, suffering and sheer terror that refusing to invest in solving these problems in society can cause, when you look at the resources committed to social governance from a purely dollar-based perspective in the short term. Even if you were thinking about the purely dollar-based amount of damage that not just Kanna, but so many others like her that were born in her generation had caused to society, there comes a point that when investing in preventative measures in society would've BEEN CHEAPER than the use of austerity and a smaller state in order to pursue a fiscal agenda. This is the opportunity cost of following such an agenda. It is VERY clear that not enough money was invested in the society that this woman and many others like her grew up in to prevent these kinds of problems, or at least mitigate them. The goodwill of Japanese people, and the assumption that they will not commit any crimes, is not a substitute for a peaceful society. Nor is the use of heavy-handed punishments in order to punish those who have fallen through the cracks, if such people as this go undiagnosed. What punishment will bring this poor child back to life? What punishment will allow for these debtors to be repaid ALL the money that they have now lost? What punishment is going to repair the emotional damage that Kanna's parents, her first husband and their parents now have to permanently live with and suffer under? With the rise of increasing automation in our society, and the loss of jobs becoming more and more apparent, as well as demographic trends in advanced economies creating more and more worker shortages, most apparent in Korea, as well as famously Japan, the way we think about how our societies need to be managed to keep people safe, as well as the way that we think about the ways that our economies work is going to need to radically change to meet the challenges of society and social welfare today. I hope that this poor child is in a better place today. I hope that Kanna's ex-husband and their parents, as well as Kanna's parents who are raising her first child, are able to recover both emotionally and financially. I have particular sympathy for her ex-husband, who had not only his entire life, but the lives of his parents utterly destroyed because of his choice of partner and his desire to a be a kind, thoughtful, caring and responsible human being, and all of this destroyed through NO fault of his own. I hope that all honest people that were defrauded through this woman and her partner's actions will be able to recover financially. Perhaps most of all, I sincerely hope that Kanna, and her partner, if they happen to avoid the death penalty, will one day be able to live with the weight and shame of the horrific crimes that they decided to commit in society. This entire story was a failure on top of failure, on so many different levels. Society will not change until people have the compassion and the direct sense needed to make the repairs needed to keep people safe and happy, and away from the horrible dangers that a refusal to change society will cause, yet again, if these problems are not rectified, and that if people in power refuse to act. I hope Japanese society, and the communities affected will be able to recover from the memory of this horrific incident, and all the ills that caused it, and I hope they are able to one day find and cultivate a lasting peace and justice in their society. #日本

IN MY OPINION this isn’t a good analysis of Kanna Asanuma just based on the disregard and misinformation on childhood sexual trauma. The RUclipsr speaks on her past, claims to “understand” how this may have affected her psychological development but then proceeds to say he doesn’t understand how the Japanese RUclipsrs can sympathise with her (I assume the Japanese public took this stance due to how childhoods such as the one kanna endured are typical and they can perhaps relate more than sheltered westerners). She was being sexually assaulted as a FIRST GRADER, for those who don’t understand how important this information is: the prefrontal cortex begins development during that time in women and that’s the part of the brain that’s in charge of behaviour and critical thinking. To have been used by older men at such a young age definitely mutilated her brain making her unable to develop into a normal adult. The whole narrative that she’s the person she is because of “kleptomania” and “she can’t resist sleeping with attractive men” because of this urge to possess is wrong. Kleptomania does not cause hyper sexuality. She’s a victim of child sexual abuse, which causes hyper-sexuality. Her seeking out sexual partners at host clubs, cheating multiple times and even when she was younger, the pride she had in claiming how “desirable” she was to classmates is symptomatic of this trauma. Her then refusal to be maternal and the horrible crime she committed. To someone uneducated with female psychology, the easiest verdict to pass is ; she’s a horrible selfish person who is a cold blooded killer. Which again is wrong. She’s a trauma victim living in a country where mental health illness are not treated. Her doing what she did is not the work of a sane person. You and I wouldn’t even think of BURNING a child to death. She could’ve just abandoned it at a church or care home, even a public restroom, if her goal was to rid herself of the responsibilities of child care. But she chose the most extreme option. If you can’t fathom her actions then you can fathom how her mind isn’t normal. And that she is sick. I found this video PERSONALLY too condemning. There wasn’t much understanding of how someone can go an do something like what she did , and strangely enough I feel like it focuses a lot more on the suffering of the men in her life rather than her. More than it "cannot be helped" it seems most people in her life just thought that she could not be helped (e.g. asked to change) and let her be. All people in her life either bullied or ended up saying that she could not be helped changing, so she did not change. No one" controlled" whether she was going to school, the host club itself let her accumulate such a big debt probably knowing themselves she could not pay and so on.
Which is why they want to her parents' house for the money and lost debts. And why she was blacklisted from most Host Clubs in all of Osaka, one of the largest cities in Japan because she couldn't pay them back due to her compulsive spending. When you apply logic to these narratives, the whole "Kanna was a victim" diatribe falls apart quicker than a Honda NSX reaches 0-120km/h.

I would just like to ask you not to label every thief a "kleptomaniac". Kleptomania is a real mental illness and while kanma does frequently steal, there are no other indicators that she suffers from kleptomania. The fact that she only steals valuables is actually an indication that she is NOT a kleptomaniac. People with kleptomania decide to steal because of oppertunity and not value- from chapstick to pearls- and typically other triggers needs to be present (like anxiety, hunger, or even needing a person nearby to add thrill). Kleptomaniacs arent bad people, theyre dealing with the a survival instinct (that probably helped some of our ancestors survive) that is no longer acceptable in civilized society. They could've had drunk s**. Her BF could've pressured her into it. 🤷♀️ D) giving away the baby up entirely after birth in JPN means having to travel to one or two locations in the country, I think one is super far in Kyushu? Getting a birth pill in JPN requires a) consultation (like $100) + monthly pay for ONE!!! birth control pill a MONTH (3000 yen to 7000 yen a month (like $30 - 70)) --> you can't get the pill at a store like you can in the US I think by how this couple had absolutely no money, I can conclude that they did this because: A) lack of or no money B) no basic contraception (c0ndoms); being dumb during s** C) reluctance of going to a hospital (out of fear of being found out by her family, having no permanent residence, etc . . . ) D) late noticing on their part; ignorance of her symptoms Also, 150,000 yen in Japan is like $1,500, so she didn't have much money at all, and probably spent most of the money already anyway with her bf. When I was doing youth work back in the late 90s/early 2000s I did a lot of research into everything that has been discussed in your video. One of the most important take away from that study was that a nation if know by the youth and it's mental health. You can see where a country is heading by the behaviour of it's youth and what they are dealing with. Turning a blind eye and ignoring their situation is a sure fire way to bring your nations future to a terrible end. We can easily see that with this current Gen Y. I don't hold this generations despair, over intolerance and mental health on them but, partly on the overbearing and sometimes uncaring previous generation. Youth, when eventually become they become adults, forget what being young was like. They ignore the stresses, needs and emotions of being young. That always leads them disregard the same thing they longed for during their youth. This is what leads us as adults to treat young people as throw away 'things' and regard their pain and stresses as just minor things, when if we were to look back would see them as digestating end of the world situations to us when we were their age. So, the best thing we can learn from this video, is that we need to be more caring and more aware for the pain and mental health of others. We can try a little harder to be someone who can try to understand, but still be firm when we see bad behaviour, as we can see where bad behaviour or not caring can lead someone to as shown in this terrible ordeal leading a child's untimely passing. Again, with sociopaths, you CAN NOT do anything other than ignore them, lest they abuse your trust and empathy, which always leads to misery and especially death. I've seen enough examples on an INTERNATIONAL scale, undiscriminating of class, race, nationality and creed, to conclude that lost causes EXIST and are more numerous than I can estimate with help. Care and compassion DID NOT change Kanna, it only emboldened her to abuse and defraud more people. This case is so disturbing to me as it reminded me very acutely of my own mother. As someone who grew up in a similar situation it's terrible for all parties involved. I hope the daughter is able to move on and won't have to carry the burden of her mother's sins
I honestly do not think that her problem is really so much about resisting "urges", even though impulsivity is something very common in disorders such as borderline personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, bipolar disorder, and sometimes in dissociative disorders too. BPD, ASPD and dissociative disorders are very much tied up to exposure to important, reoccurring trauma. Maladaptive patterns do form in response to that exposure, sometimes to the point of being harmful. While her case is more spectacular as it went extremely wrong right away, it is also very visible that even though she displayed signs of distress that could have been handled at a younger age, that just didn’t happen. Also, Japan has one of the most backwards legislation regarding protection of children from sexual assault, prostitution, and pornography, with a huge tolerance and normalization of it, which constitutes an awful terrain for constant victimization and revictimization. This, paired with notorious disdain towards psychiatry and a fatalistic mentality, is just set to let people like Ms. Asanuma to psychically rot and fester. Most victims in distress would tend to commit suicide or hurt themselves, but sometimes they will derive this on other people. And mind you, I’m writing this message as someone who has been victimized by a person who did suffer from child trafficking. He eventually grew into being violent and horrible and ultimately committed suicide. I’m by no means excusing what he did, but unfortunately that shit usually happens for a reason. By no means also all victims do evolve into offenders, however not seeing that being victimized in the first place really is a massive factor towards it is a form of blindness that society likes to have. It is easier to deem people as being evil and helpless than to have to review the very fundamentals of our society, acknowledging its dysfunction and the fact that violence and rape sits right in the middle of it. Statistics on children sexual assault and domestic violence are absolutely insane, however societies (and not just Japanese, but also in the Western world) tend to act as if it were inexistant, or very rare. We like to see children as being almost sanctified, but the way we do behave towards them is actually very different. So many people engage into seeing children as "bad", "twisted", "mischievous" in order to legitimize abuse, while also turning a blind eye for questionable situations when witnessing child abuse for fear of meddling into the parents or caretakers’ affairs, as they do hold power over children. Again, it is easier to depict a messy kid as being bad instead of really investigating what is going on with the said kid and eventually to take action. In the case of my ex, rest in peace, what also emerges is that there were many opportunities in which authorities could actually have done something for him before he turned into what he was set to became. He did receive no help or even attention, and left to his own devices, started to get onto that parasitic lifestyle in which so many of offenders do engage. I do believe it is avoidable, but it takes a lot of work and it takes a lot of political and social will to create the structures capable of doing that. Another point of criticism that I have with most human societies, this is shared by Japan and the Western world alike, it’s how much weight sexism and romance fantasies do have in these cases. It does worsen attachement issues for both men and women-men feeling like they have to fill impossible roles and have professional success while displaying no angst and no vulnerability, women having the sense that they should be cared for, or owned by, men, who in turn think that women should care for them. In terms of dynamics, it is by far more subtle and complex than "men bad women good", it’s a type of hierarchical structure that plays everyone against everyone and really doesn’t benefit neither women and men in terms of mental health and peace. It seems that in Japan, since the social destructuration and personal isolation has been growing since a long time on the backdrop of a collectivist society, this effect is even more detrimental since people are being raised in such a hostile environment and lack of proper attachment.

I assume the way you phrased things is normal and natural in Japan, but remarks like "I think most viewers can agree she is not the most attractive person" and such are very off-putting from European perspective. It would be better to phrase it that "she does not fall into the Japanese canons of beauty" or something along these lines. Just try to phrase it in a more polite, less toxic way, and also less subjective and assumptive, try to make them more objective, fact based. You don't need to stress how much YOU think she's ugly and also suggest the viewers that they should, too. It's enough to state "she does not fit the conventional beauty standards in Japan" or something like that, and it does not need to be repeated over and over again, cause it's just unnecessarily cruel and gives a bit of a creepy vibe as if you were stuck on the stage of being mentally an immature teen being unable to get over that someone could possibly want to be intimate with her when you think she's unattractive. I do not say that this is actually the case with you, as I said it's probably a cultural bias that tactfulness is perceived differently across cultures, but I just wanted to make you aware of this, so in the future you could keep this in mind when writing scripts.

Biologically, people's brains are wired to be a certain way, but studies show that life experience, environment and other components have a bigger weight when it comes to a person's characteristics. Most people that get bullied go through it during their childhood, one of the most important development stages for humans psychologically so YES everything that happens during childhood will have an impact on you when you grow up.
Even if some bully victims grow up to be good people, they still grow to develop other issues that limit them from actually living a good and plentyful life.
Schools need to take bullying more seriously, and show better forms of support for their students.

Teenagers and young adults don't end up this way simply because "they're just delinquents", that's just an easy way for people to not think too much on the issue. I believe that all of this is a result on Kanna's home life and daily social interactions. I'm going off assumption that she was abused or neglected in some way by her family when she was young due to her being associated with papakatsu's and she wouldn't have abandoned nor burn her own children. She has also been bullied by boy's playing with her feelings and being terrible to her which is all unexcusable, which led to her being this way. But that also doesn't excuse her own behavior, she has the choice to not steal, cheat, and run away fromm her problems regardless of that "urge". She knows what she's doing, if she didn't then it wouldn't have escalated so quickly. Her ex-husband and his family did continue to enable her behavior for allowing her to stay at their home despite her nearly financially ruining their lives by stealing and racking debt under their names. People around her abused her and enabled her bad behavior, and the "It can't be helped" phrase really came true to her being someone who literally cannot be helped unless something tragic happens to her (and even then for how many henious acts she's commited, who knows if that'd really impact her to the point of change?). Though i don't know too much about Mako mentioned at the end of the video, she ran away from her abusive father in search for something better in life. That could mean that Mako knew what was good and bad and she chose to try to save herself unlike Kanna who remained delusional. Mako had a terrible home life but maybe had decent social life (whether online or irl) to get herself out of the situation and Kanna didn't. To me the solution is to raise kids better by families being their childrens support system who actually care for them and don't condone/tolerate destructive behaviors. Even if their family is their biological one and is a found family (like a community or friend group), this is what should be done.

that is 🐄💩that many in fact "therapist" take advantage of that and try to help them avoid accountability but at the same time to victimize them in the eyes of the world in order to look like they did a great job so they can attract more costumers (and i managed to fish several therapist into admitting that in private conversations). Obviously there are exceptions to the rule but the majority of bullies, abusive or degenerate people is the exact opposite reasons, they were raised spoiled and entitled but when the shit hits the fan or they get find out or someone fights back they then proceed to play the victims and give and even fabricate sob stories to get pity and get away with it.

I think that is often true but not always. My older brother for example. We had the same family, same parents. I am not aware of any abuse that he suffered (maybe something happened that I don't know about), and we had really good and nice parents. Me and my other siblings all turned out ok, but he has always had impulse issues and no regard for other people. We never knew why. My parents tried everything to help him including therapy, medication, rehab, etc. but he continues to make awful choices and hurt people. We have always said it almost seems like he has something wrong with his brain because he had a good, fairly healthy childhood but continues to act this way.
I have been exposed to way worst bullying than she faced (every single school day, no rest, constant harrassement) and it only stopped when I was 17yo.

But that doesn't mean it wouldn't have made a horrible scar on her psyche, since she's not me or you. That said, that's no excuse for what she did. We can just see it as one part of a bigger whole.
For me, my experience is one part of a bigger whole. I can't open myself to anyone irl. The thought terrifies me to this day, because when I sought for help, my parents called me a liar and laughed at me, saying I wanted attention. I haven't hurt anyone. I've never broken the law. I will always support others in bad situations, but I can't offer myself to anyone, making my experience back then as a part of a whole.
And you still carry your situation with you, as one part of your whole, and it defines traits in you. It doesn't mean it's responsible for anything wrong that you do to others, but it's still there. It still is a part of the puzzle that is you.

This is just an observation from a non-Japanese person: In regards of the "Tokyoko Kids" I think generalizing these kids and associating them with this Kanna individual is maybe not a good way to think of them. Probably, the majority of the toyoko kids can be helped. Kanna, more than likely has a personality disorder such as "antisocial personality disorder". When I was at a kid's clinic and my parents were talking to the physicians about my brother I often got to play on the playground with all the kids from the psych ward, among others. One of the girls there had kleptomania, but she never stole anything big or important. You could bet she'd take small toys, sparkly stones and pens if they were lying around without even consciously thinking about it, but if you asked her whether she had 'found' something you were missing she always returned it. Usually she couldn’t even tell why she put it in her pocket.
She grabbed forks and candy bars and name tags. She never planned her little thefts or went for people's valuables like wallets on purpose, and if she did pick up something valuable it was more of a coincidence (I know she picked up a wedding ring off the window sill in the lady's toilet once, but later turned it in to the nurse, which is really just a case of lost and found).
She couldn’t be left alone in a store though since she'd just start putting whatever she took a liking to into her pocket.
It is unfortunate that to see collectivist countries such as Japan under capitalism, leaving troubled young people on the road, due to the absence of proper government resources to help the people and prevent society from decaying.

One other takeaway from this case should be, there should be easier options for giving children up to adoption. In Japan except for Kumamoto prefecture, there's no easy options for giving up a child. If something like baby hatches was more widespread, the babies life would likely haven been saved.

As a casual observer, I think that her very apparent undiagnosed psychopathy was a much bigger factor here, even more so than her alleged kleptomania.
I think that this issue was a much more serious problem. It is not normal to leave a baby to die in this manner. There have been cases of women abandoning their child, or to get rid of them out of desperation due to social norms, but to burn them alive? Very few people who are capable of feeling empathy for those around them would be able to carry out such an act so casually, especially to a helpless newborn baby, unless a person was physically threatened and coerced each and every step of the way under terror, or under threat of GRAVE harm, almost as a form of mental torture.
It is very clear that she wanted to get rid of the baby, and through the rush of ideas in her mind as to how to do it, there was nothing that stopped her when she landed on this SPECIFIC idea internally, and mentally through her thought process.
People like this need to be diagnosed from a very early age to receive therapy needed to mitigate their lifelong condition. This is a mental condition that CANNOT BE CURED.
Horrible things can happen in society if these people are not detected and diagnosed early on in life. The problem here is not just the person who committed these crimes, nor just the callous people that sexually abused this child when she was still so young, the problem, the greatest problem is with the society that refuses to fix these problems, and is unable to understand the long term cost in terms of danger, pain, suffering and sheer terror that refusing to invest in solving these problems in society can cause, when you look at the resources committed to social governance from a purely dollar-based perspective in the short term.
Even if you were thinking about the purely dollar-based amount of damage that not just Kanna, but so many others like her that were born in her generation had caused to society, there comes a point that when investing in preventative measures in society would've BEEN CHEAPER than the use of austerity and a smaller state in order to pursue a fiscal agenda.
This is the opportunity cost of following such an agenda. It is VERY clear that not enough money was invested in the society that this woman and many others like her grew up in to prevent these kinds of problems, or at least mitigate them. The goodwill of Japanese people, and the assumption that they will not commit any crimes, is not a substitute for a peaceful society. Nor is the use of heavy-handed punishments in order to punish those who have fallen through the cracks, if such people as this go undiagnosed.
What punishment will bring this poor child back to life? What punishment will allow for these debtors to be repaid ALL the money that they have now lost? What punishment is going to repair the emotional damage that Kanna's parents, her first husband and their parents now have to permanently live with and suffer under?
With the rise of increasing automation in our society, and the loss of jobs becoming more and more apparent, as well as demographic trends in advanced economies creating more and more worker shortages, most apparent in Korea, as well as famously Japan, the way we think about how our societies need to be managed to keep people safe, as well as the way that we think about the ways that our economies work is going to need to radically change to meet the challenges of society and social welfare today.
I hope that this poor child is in a better place today. I hope that Kanna's ex-husband and their parents, as well as Kanna's parents who are raising her first child, are able to recover both emotionally and financially. I have particular sympathy for her ex-husband, who had not only his entire life, but the lives of his parents utterly destroyed because of his choice of partner and his desire to a be a kind, thoughtful, caring and responsible human being, and all of this destroyed through NO fault of his own.
I hope that all honest people that were defrauded through this woman and her partner's actions will be able to recover financially.
Perhaps most of all, I sincerely hope that Kanna, and her partner, if they happen to avoid the death penalty, will one day be able to live with the weight and shame of the horrific crimes that they decided to commit in society.
This entire story was a failure on top of failure, on so many different levels. Society will not change until people have the compassion and the direct sense needed to make the repairs needed to keep people safe and happy, and away from the horrible dangers that a refusal to change society will cause, yet again, if these problems are not rectified, and that if people in power refuse to act.

IN MY OPINION this isn’t a good analysis of Kanna Asanuma just based on the disregard and misinformation on childhood sexual trauma.
The RUclipsr speaks on her past, claims to “understand” how this may have affected her psychological development but then proceeds to say he doesn’t understand how the Japanese RUclipsrs can sympathise with her (I assume the Japanese public took this stance due to how childhoods such as the one kanna endured are typical and they can perhaps relate more than sheltered westerners).
She was being sexually assaulted as a FIRST GRADER, for those who don’t understand how important this information is: the prefrontal cortex begins development during that time in women and that’s the part of the brain that’s in charge of behaviour and critical thinking. To have been used by older men at such a young age definitely mutilated her brain making her unable to develop into a normal adult.
The whole narrative that she’s the person she is because of “kleptomania” and “she can’t resist sleeping with attractive men” because of this urge to possess is wrong. Kleptomania does not cause hyper sexuality. She’s a victim of child sexual abuse, which causes hyper-sexuality. Her seeking out sexual partners at host clubs, cheating multiple times and even when she was younger, the pride she had in claiming how “desirable” she was to classmates is symptomatic of this trauma.
Her then refusal to be maternal and the horrible crime she committed. To someone uneducated with female psychology, the easiest verdict to pass is ; she’s a horrible selfish person who is a cold blooded killer. Which again is wrong. She’s a trauma victim living in a country where mental health illness are not treated. Her doing what she did is not the work of a sane person. You and I wouldn’t even think of BURNING a child to death. She could’ve just abandoned it at a church or care home, even a public restroom, if her goal was to rid herself of the responsibilities of child care. But she chose the most extreme option. If you can’t fathom her actions then you can fathom how her mind isn’t normal. And that she is sick.
I found this video PERSONALLY too condemning. There wasn’t much understanding of how someone can go an do something like what she did , and strangely enough I feel like it focuses a lot more on the suffering of the men in her life rather than her. Kleptomania is a real mental illness and while kanma does frequently steal, there are no other indicators that she suffers from kleptomania. The fact that she only steals valuables is actually an indication that she is NOT a kleptomaniac. People with kleptomania decide to steal because of oppertunity and not value- from chapstick to pearls- and typically other triggers needs to be present (like anxiety, hunger, or even needing a person nearby to add thrill). @Asianalysis excellent essay into the case and also your commentary on it. When I was doing youth work back in the late 90s/early 2000s I did a lot of research into everything that has been discussed in your video.
One of the most important take away from that study was that a nation if know by the youth and it's mental health. You can see where a country is heading by the behaviour of it's youth and what they are dealing with. Turning a blind eye and ignoring their situation is a sure fire way to bring your nations future to a terrible end. We can easily see that with this current Gen Y.
I don't hold this generations despair, over intolerance and mental health on them but, partly on the overbearing and sometimes uncaring previous generation. Youth, when eventually become they become adults, forget what being young was like. They ignore the stresses, needs and emotions of being young.
That always leads them disregard the same thing they longed for during their youth. This is what leads us as adults to treat young people as throw away 'things' and regard their pain and stresses as just minor things, when if we were to look back would see them as digestating end of the world situations to us when we were their age.
So, the best thing we can learn from this video, is that we need to be more caring and more aware for the pain and mental health of others. We can try a little harder to be someone who can try to understand, but still be firm when we see bad behaviour, as we can see where bad behaviour or not caring can lead someone to as shown in this terrible ordeal leading a child's untimely passing.

Again, with sociopaths, you CAN NOT do anything other than ignore them, lest they abuse your trust and empathy, which always leads to misery and especially death. I've seen enough examples on an INTERNATIONAL scale, undiscriminating of class, race, nationality and creed, to conclude that lost causes EXIST and are more numerous than I can estimate with help. Care and compassion DID NOT change Kanna, it only emboldened her to abuse and defraud more people. The reality of the matter is that love and care only lead to more abuse sent from the so-called "victim" of the narrative onto the real victims of the incidents they eventually bring onto the world. Cynical as it is, the Truth cares very little about hope and heroes.
As for "trying a little harder", I do not subscribe to this naive notion. To take a page from the 36 Strategems, specifically the final, 36th Strategem, walking away is far better in the long run than exhausting all options.

These don't sound like urges to me. This sounds like an opportunist who avoids consequences and responsibility anywhere she can.
This case is so disturbing to me as it reminded me very acutely of my own mother. As someone who grew up in a similar situation it's terrible for all parties involved. I hope the daughter is able to move on and won't have to carry the burden of her mother's sins
I honestly do not think that her problem is really so much about resisting "urges", even though impulsivity is something very common in disorders such as borderline personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, bipolar disorder, and sometimes in dissociative disorders too. BPD, ASPD and dissociative disorders are very much tied up to exposure to important, reoccurring trauma. Maladaptive patterns do form in response to that exposure, sometimes to the point of being harmful.
While her case is more spectacular as it went extremely wrong right away, it is also very visible that even though she displayed signs of distress that could have been handled at a younger age, that just didn’t happen. Also, Japan has one of the most backwards legislation regarding protection of children from sexual assault, prostitution, and pornography, with a huge tolerance and normalization of it, which constitutes an awful terrain for constant victimization and revictimization. This, paired with notorious disdain towards psychiatry and a fatalistic mentality, is just set to let people like Ms. Asanuma to psychically rot and fester. Most victims in distress would tend to commit suicide or hurt themselves, but sometimes they will derive this on other people.
And mind you, I’m writing this message as someone who has been victimized by a person who did suffer from child trafficking. He eventually grew into being violent and horrible and ultimately committed suicide. I’m by no means excusing what he did, but unfortunately that shit usually happens for a reason. By no means also all victims do evolve into offenders, however not seeing that being victimized in the first place really is a massive factor towards it is a form of blindness that society likes to have.
It is easier to deem people as being evil and helpless than to have to review the very fundamentals of our society, acknowledging its dysfunction and the fact that violence and rape sits right in the middle of it. Statistics on children sexual assault and domestic violence are absolutely insane, however societies (and not just Japanese, but also in the Western world) tend to act as if it were inexistant, or very rare. We like to see children as being almost sanctified, but the way we do behave towards them is actually very different. So many people engage into seeing children as "bad", "twisted", "mischievous" in order to legitimize abuse, while also turning a blind eye for questionable situations when witnessing child abuse for fear of meddling into the parents or caretakers’ affairs, as they do hold power over children. Again, it is easier to depict a messy kid as being bad instead of really investigating what is going on with the said kid and eventually to take action.
In the case of my ex, rest in peace, what also emerges is that there were many opportunities in which authorities could actually have done something for him before he turned into what he was set to became. He did receive no help or even attention, and left to his own devices, started to get onto that parasitic lifestyle in which so many of offenders do engage. I do believe it is avoidable, but it takes a lot of work and it takes a lot of political and social will to create the structures capable of doing that.
Another point of criticism that I have with most human societies, this is shared by Japan and the Western world alike, it’s how much weight sexism and romance fantasies do have in these cases. It does worsen attachement issues for both men and women-men feeling like they have to fill impossible roles and have professional success while displaying no angst and no vulnerability, women having the sense that they should be cared for, or owned by, men, who in turn think that women should care for them. In terms of dynamics, it is by far more subtle and complex than "men bad women good", it’s a type of hierarchical structure that plays everyone against everyone and really doesn’t benefit neither women and men in terms of mental health and peace. It seems that in Japan, since the social destructuration and personal isolation has been growing since a long time on the backdrop of a collectivist society, this effect is even more detrimental since people are being raised in such a hostile environment and lack of proper attachment.

I assume the way you phrased things is normal and natural in Japan, but remarks like "I think most viewers can agree she is not the most attractive person" and such are very off-putting from European perspective. It would be better to phrase it that "she does not fall into the Japanese canons of beauty" or something along these lines. Just try to phrase it in a more polite, less toxic way, and also less subjective and assumptive, try to make them more objective, fact based. It's enough to state "she does not fit the conventional beauty standards in Japan" or something like that, and it does not need to be repeated over and over again, cause it's just unnecessarily cruel and gives a bit of a creepy vibe as if you were stuck on the stage of being mentally an immature teen being unable to get over that someone could possibly want to be intimate with her when you think she's unattractive. I do not say that this is actually the case with you, as I said it's probably a cultural bias that tactfulness is perceived differently across cultures, but I just wanted to make you aware of this, so in the future you could keep this in mind when writing scripts.

It's sad how someone become crazy in this world,but is worse been alone and helpless,so that,this people live a nightmare and no body know about it.
Even though mental health plays a huge role, it's still horrible what she done to the baby. She could have send the baby to an adoption center.
