    These are all great points! One thing I would also add alongside getting gear, is you don't need the latest and greatest. There is a TON of amazing cameras that are on eBay for an incredible price, so there is no need go out and get the "latest and greatest" right away, and if you need something that might be out of budget, you can also rent too!
    Great video!

    Caleb - Thanks a lot for sharing good advice! Great points, and there is especially SO MUCH value in building a healthy foundation for both business - AND the personal sphere from the beginning. Supporting eachother in the filmmaking world is the way forward.

    Great points. I started by business and only bought gear when I had needed them. Also took my time and understood the market. Also worked on my graft, Doing small paid videos witch was more about me learning how to film and edit' and making sure I kept this motto. ' I am making videos for clients who don't know about videoing not for other videographers' Great video to make for those just starting out and want to make an income from behind the camera instead of in front of the camera.

      Your motto is 💯. So many times we get caught up on what other people in the field will say. I film with insert (recent camera) to be accepted by your peers.

      @@lensflare336 yeah. My first video I did was for a club. The manager wanted me to do a video to show how busy it was and people have a good time. I got footage of people dancing and girls posing. I spent a day editing it adding whip transitions and doing it like how I saw RUclipsrs do there footage. Sent it to the manger thinking he will be blown away. He got back to me saying ' take this out take that out. Its two long. What's with those weird things when your showing different footage? So I made a video with quick hard cuts each clips around 3 seconds long. All the time thinking this isn't what I've seen RUclipsrs do. Sent it to the manager who then said brillient video do it like this from now on. From that day on I did all my vidoes with hard cuts. Didn't use V log just the camera profile and no one single client has ever complained. Shooting wedding vidoes is the same. I think cameras users over complicat things and put themselves under so much pressure when it's not needed. Do a nice video showing the product and that's what works.

      @@orinorio1 that's why we gotta make videos for our clients. The average customer not go care if your 📸 6K or whatever. It's probably better to have clients buy into your skills an style instead of your best selling point is my 📸.

    • @orinorio1
      @orinorio1 4 месяца назад +1

      @@lensflare336 the issue is that most camera users watched other RUclipsrs and feel they should also do one. Only way someone can get better is by going out and doing client videos.

      @@orinorio1 that's true. Only way to get better is work in the niche you want to be in. Them gear videos do be tempting I watch them an feel like if I get this I will go to the next level. An I take a step back like na this purchase don't make sense at the moment 😂.

    All excellent and helpful points, but....
    How does one attach oneself to a small video production company when you have absolutely no contacts or connections to said and really have no idea how to find them.... ? You made it sound so easy and matter of fact: just do it. But it is not that simple!
    Consider also that you have an imternational audience watching your youtube channel if you answer!

    This is a solid list - and way more fun than sifting through a long podcast. Hey Caleb, do you do consultations? I'd happily pay for a bit of advice on where to focus my skills. I'm not great with a camera but I write, edit, and direct. I also got started in After Effects so I'm handy with Motion Graphics. But I need to focus on one thing that's gonna work better! Lemme know.

    ok Caleb, we know you are testing the new gh7. I don't see anything HUGE in the upgrade from the 6. yes PDAF of course, bigger fan so potential for more noise, now another expense a new xLR audio unit to support 32 bit float (I'm sure You Tube consumers will notice...not), and RAW (whoopdeedoo.) does it have two SDs or CF and SD. Same sensor as the 6 I think, processor probably the same....and now the 6 will be discontinued? Maybe I should wait for the gh8. You got a line to Lumix, right? Tell them what we need are new fast zooms that are unlike the 10-25 f1.7, AFFORDABLE and smaller. Leica branded. I know I know, lots of 4.3 lenses out there, but not fast zooms...by Lumix Leica. another $2500 now fo a gh 7. does it ever end?
