i only came here to learn how to beat zoners, i left with an understanding and strange respect/appreciation for them. and they make my victories all the more sweet when i plunge them into the blast zone
This is that one diabolical man who earned my respect by proclaiming something so blunt, I struggle to decide whether to share this video (with my brothers)
Amazing tips, especially the ones centered around mindset! Tip #3 tends to be the one that I fall for most; a solid lead will make you feel invincible at 150% and forget Snake has a killing uptilt 😂 Also JEEEZ the visuals are amazing! Very well done, on both your parts! So happy with how this came out, G$ and I'm excited for whatever more you come up with! And thank you for the shoutout 💖
The feeling you discribed is the exact feeling I get when winning I play gunner so zoning is important and danm the way you described zoning is so on point
Dude your video quality is outstanding. I love the music selection, with Dimitri’s theme from Sly Cooper being a favorite! I hope you blow up with the other top tier smash channels, very well deserved!
great video! now i can feel better about playing samus, people always asked why winning was better for me than “having fun” but to me winning in that way was the fun
Zoning takes a fine art to achieve properly Since so many projectiles are smaller to actually hit than proper moves and being able to know when to switch from passive to aggressive so swiftly takes getting used to But it's all worth it to impress with deep item combos you have, space well, and make a Ganondorf main cry in his pants and constantly call me a coward despite playing the matchup properly - A Mega Man main
Got another in the pipeline right now! Would be amazing to hit a milestone like that, but I mostly just really really love smash bros, fun stuff to work on!!
Man good stuff this video was super well made and informative. Its a very important thing to know if you going to be play competitively because at the end of the day man if it works don't stop doing it. People have a very negative mind when it comes to this type of play but you showed it was legit and effective way to play. People shouldn't fell bad for playing this way.
I played fighting game very casually until 2021 where I took it more seriously, looking for guides and terminology, and I realized I've always played zoners, not only in smash, but in all fighting games. I get a lot of flame but I don't care, zoning is cool, different and I love it.
That ending part made me go from feeling bad about playing g&w, rob and Ike (who are all braindead) to wanting to play palu Jk id never go that far but fr I now feel good I play 3 braindead characters
@Daniel Hoffman Ike just spams Nair, g&w mashes up b and smash attacks and while yes rob does have many difficult combos and tech, the most optimal way to play him is by sitting back and mashing down b and nuetral b
@Daniel Hoffman even at a high level g&w also mashes aerials, mainly bair and Nair and when I fight people I still win, even when I'm on elite or in a tournament. I've dropped Ike and rob tho so I don't know about them. Even if g&w isn't fully braindead he's by far one of the easiest characters in the game to pick up and mash buttons with
Watching this video now on 2024 there’s one phrase that sticks with me: “you have to avoid lethal hits” I think this is the reason why characters like Kazuya feel so unfair and like they break the game, because against Kazuya ANY hit is a lethal hit.
True, kind of! That's where things get very tricky and bleed into the world of the more traditional fighting game. See, those hits are only lethal if the other player has the skill to execute the following moves. Smash has always been a game with a lot of counterplay to being combo'd so it feels bad when you're watching a cutscene of your own death, but also that cutscene still technically is your opponent outplaying you. It's funny how what determines what makes someone 'good' changes over the years, not just from player skills but also from the tools the game presents you!
This video was perfect for me, I stopped playing like a zoner because my friends kept saying I just use the same moves over and over again, but this! This has helped me come alive again! Time to zone the shit out of them
just discovered your videos and man do i love those! that quality of both information and editing, you're just waaaay to underrated on yt! glad to see you continue making videos :) ps.: i really appreciate all those references to anime you're making and when i heard that ratchet&clank soundtrack in this video right here, you really got me subbed for a lifetime :D
Yesterday my controller A button, stick and grab gave out simultaneously for some reason and I only had the ability to use the B button. I made the joke that I now had and excuse to play Zelda and I did indeed win.
I appreciate zoners but I still hold that most people who play them exclusively, do just so they don't get bodied (speaking at low levels of play obviously). It's a free way of controlling space compared to a Falcon who has to actively zone with his own hurt/hit box. Characters like Marth that have disjoints are a nice inbetween. Nonetheless, fantastic content. Instant sub.
I love that "you just won because you spammed" reaction. Like... yeah... but I won. What are you talking about? This is a competetive game. Try to win, dumdum.
"We aren't fighting the character on the screen so much as we are fighting with the person controlling them." This hit me hard
i only came here to learn how to beat zoners, i left with an understanding and strange respect/appreciation for them.
and they make my victories all the more sweet when i plunge them into the blast zone
respect? this has only confirmed my biases against them.
This is that one diabolical man who earned my respect by proclaiming something so blunt, I struggle to decide whether to share this video (with my brothers)
I’m glad you didn’t just make a “Why zoning sucks” video
Oh my god....humans are Zoners...
Why is your production value so high despite having 8 subs lol

First vid! Credit def goes to BecomeCubed for all the editing stuff though, that dude is amazing
Having a good editor and being good at commentary are key to success, or at the very least it makes your channel all the more appealing 🙂
Because "he's a man of focus, commitment, and sheer fucking will"
This is one of the best guides I've ever seen. It's not about how to train it's what to consider.
This is like top level smash content and it's your first video? Really good stuff man. Loved the slow and analytical pace.
The editing on this is top notch mate, love it
Damn, the gunnercord delivered. That last message was DEEP.
Best 3 AM sub!

Yup, that's me. I bet you're wondering how I got here...
This is the best comment in this comment section
lmao
No way a 4 year old smash video is the one i see someone describe the FGC Zoner gameplan and mentality the best ive ever heard. Bravo.
Has to be one of if not the greatest smash video out there.
The Death Note music got me like
This vid is so high quality
i’m mostly a traditional fgc player, but even still a comprehensive video on the importance of zoning is great to see ^^

i love zoning in every fighting game. i just love controlling space and the way my opponent has to move.
Dude your video quality is outstanding. I love the music selection, with Dimitri’s theme from Sly Cooper being a favorite! I hope you blow up with the other top tier smash channels, very well deserved!
This is by far my favorite to watch when I've hit a rough spot on my gameplay. It keeps everything in perspective super well

holy shit your intro blurbs are AMAZING
Zoning is how you're actually supposed to fight. It's only boring if you don't know what's going on.
Zone
Is
Key
And
It's
Everything
.
Prove him wrong.
My man, if make videos like this all the time you are getting at least 100K in 2020
Got another in the pipeline right now! Would be amazing to hit a milestone like that, but I mostly just really really love smash bros, fun stuff to work on!!
This is such a great video, I actually learned a lot!
“ Piranha plant is only bottom tear until you zone” - Isaac Newton
I zone, therefore I am
Earned my like as soon as I heard the ratchet and clank music
Grapplers: "Write that down, WRITE THAT DOWN!"
If to be human is to be a zoner, I am no human

The man speaks the truth, I have lost many a Smash battle to these tactics! Excellent video!
I played fighting game very casually until 2021 where I took it more seriously, looking for guides and terminology, and I realized I've always played zoners, not only in smash, but in all fighting games. I get a lot of flame but I don't care, zoning is cool, different and I love it.

Joking aside, great video. Great comments on zoning.

@Daniel Hoffman top ultimate play is spamming safe options anyway 🤷♂️ what else is he gonna do with those characters
Top tier intro

Hey chubb
Yesterday my controller A button, stick and grab gave out simultaneously for some reason and I only had the ability to use the B button. I made the joke that I now had and excuse to play Zelda and I did indeed win.
This video was awesome, I feel better playing with banjo and kazooie :)

"Humans are nature's overall best Zoners"
