How to NEVER Lose to Snake Again

- There! Snake is a notoriously difficult character to fight against; he's not only able to fight you at a range but actively gets further and further ahead the longer you leave him alone. Be it with his Nikita, Grenades, or the classic C4, Snake promises to be an explosive opponent. But, our research indicates that these very tools can be used against him just as well. Let me show you how to turn the tables on Snake, and then YOU can be a weapon that surpasses even Metal Gear.
This is a guide on how to beat a campy Snake player in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, featuring Solid Snake of Metal Gear Solid fame. If you're a Snake main, don't show this one to your friends.
I'll keep saying it until you get there, but man this channel is so high quality. Definitely deserves more views!
Honestly
1:05 , look how they massacred my boy :(
>Pick fast character
>Run forward
look forward to additional vids on how to beat (or at least effectively fight) some other characters (especially top tiers)! Nice work!!!!!!!
Hey there! I'm a Snake player. Wanted to give my thoughts on this video. And btw, none of this is supposed to come off as rude. It's only constructive criticism. And also, I'm not at all trying to defend Snake. I'm not an insecure player trying to claim Snake has no weaknesses. Instead, I'm just trying to properly explain them.
First of all, quick credit where credit is due. I feel like every point you made in this video was well explained and clear. Additionally, the visual and audio presentations of this video were top-notch. 10/10 there, no lie.
Now, on to the criticisms I have. Pretty much everything you said in this video is true. That being, the absolute most basic counterplay to Snake's camping. However, you didn't address what exactly to do should the Snake start playing around this. Now, don't get me wrong. I understand that in theory, almost everything has counterplay, so it would be impossible to address everything a Snake could do, let alone in a video under 10 minutes. But I feel like there are some major gaping holes you did not cover. Let me explain.
Grenades: I completely agree that the explosion of Snake's grenade is actually the thing that makes it good. And yes, I agree that you can punish him for using too many grenades. However, you completely avoiding explaining what to do should the Snake COOK the grenades (just in case you didn't know, "cooking" refers to waiting on the timer of the grenade, so Snake can have it ready to throw right when it's about to explode). A good Snake can pull the grenade, and bait many options before tossing it. He can also drop grenades on the ground for stage control, and then pick them back up BEFORE they explode, and toss them at the opponent, exploding upon impact. This completely nullifys the counterplay of catching his grenades and tossing them back at him. Additionally, as you mentioned shortly there after, the C4 gives Snake so much stage control, he can do this in combination with the C4, which actually lets him cook grenades quite easily. Which leads me into your next point.
C4: Not too much to say here, but you didn't mention how common (and powerful) it is for Snake to drop C4 from the air (generally when he's high above from an Up B), and blow it up below him. This is an excellent tool in neutral, and can get Snake out of disadvantage in some cases. He can also drop C4 at the ledge to 2 Frame the ledge, or hit the opponent coming from below.
Nikita: Another comment already addressed this, but Snake can cancel the nikita to bait out an option and set up for something else. Also worth mentioning he can 2 frame the ledge with Nikita REALLY well.
Ledgetrapping: I feel like here you again went very basic. Most Snake players will not be able to cover every single option, let alone predictabley. However, he can Up Smash a few times, and still cover another option, like roll, very easily. He can do this with a Down Smash (which can on some characters also cover a neutral getup), Forward Smash, Grab, Up Tilt, etc.. Of course he won't be able to get the read every single time, but he almost certainly will if you keep rolling in. I think my point comes across. Your wording made it seem like his ledgetrapping is useless, or at least easy to get around, when it's not.
To conclude, like I said at the beginning, this video is all true information, but it's lacking. It doesn't provide enough information that I feel is very important. You also didn't address any of the counterplay to his CQC, which is a major thing IMO. I mean, his dash attack is EXTREMELY powerful, and a lot Snakes spam it. How do you counterplay that? Again, this is not me trying to defend my character. If anything, it's me trying to further explain how to exploit him lol.
That's just my thoughts, thanks for reading.
All very very good points!! In earlier drafts of this I had dedicated sections to stuff like his dash attack and CQC (you can still see the area I had planned to transition into this part towards the end of this). Unfortunately I ran into some stuff that really slowed down production on this one and had to cut some parts to get it out in a reasonable timeframe, though your points are exactly the kind of things I wish I could have included!
Dude why are all your videos so high quality its insane
WHY DOES THIS ONLY HAVE 3K VIEWS??????? Informative and fire editing?????? Sheeeshhh
Really nice content man. Really high quality, ill share your videos with my local scene.
*The legend has returned once more.*
Steve vs snake be like
boom
my goodness this production value! sick video, and appreciate the info!
This is incredibly well made. Just subscribed and liked. If you plan on doing more of these, you should prioritize common online characters like sonic or rob, since a lot of people struggle with them.
Dang, I wish I knew this stuff sooner. This was super helpful! Seriously, you deserve to become more well known.
dam this channel is so good
This video is extremely well made, but I noticed you didn’t really talk about his abysmal disadvantage state. Still the production quality is off the charts!
Came from r/CrazyHand and this is seriously good content, looking forward to your future work!
Great smash bro’s video.
I needed this
Step one: pick mii gunner
Step two: use absorbing vortex
Step three: just play the game how you normally play the game
Honestly tho, gunner just shuts down snake so easily it's not even funny, I've never had any problems fighting snake, even when they're really good. If they try to camp, you heal off of it. If they try to approach, you camp. We can punish dash attack on sheild and vortex hitbox keep him out. We win up close too lol. If they try to edgeguard, you heal off Nikita and avoid his aerials. He can't ledgetrap since you eat both his fsmash and his up smash. You can approach snake for free due to dash attack beating his Nikita, fair being safe and transcendence, and having both gunner's grenade and miisile being + on shield, giving you a free grab. Nair, dair, fair, and bair all break cipher's heavy armor so you can edgeguard, if snake tries to go high and land with grenade, our up air is super tall and disjointed so we catch him. We cover ledge for free so even if we don't edgeguard him, he's pinned at ledge. If we get grabbed or get too greedy, we can get punished, but that's only if we mess up. Snake has to be doing a lot or the gunner has to be doing a lot of nothing for snake to win.
Snake has the weirdest matchup chart ever tho just go like Incin or K Rool or Ness
snake
Thank you Obama
Thank you Obama
Steve
as a Snake main myself, this is extremely well made, just a side note snake can cancel nikita pre-emptively and force you to respect whatever he does next, ,also should mention snake can still slam nikita into the side of stage triggering the explosive hitbox regardless if you hit nikita
This is really well made def subscribing
Huh, I actually had no idea about that second part. Great points man!!
@@Glyphmoney no yeah youll often see high level snakes like MVD circle nikita at ledge to have that option against recoveries that have active hitboxes like bowser or DK
Snake is such an interesting zoner. Aside from his Side Special, all of his tools just exist and don't pose a threat unless detonated. The stage can be turned into a minefield, but that's just as dangerous for Snake as it is for you. He's an interesting puzzle that forces both sides to think and, sometimes, go braindead to win. I won a few times simply be forgetting a grenade was thrown at me and landing a finishing Dash Attack or Side Special. It's hilarious seeing Snakes be their own worst nightmare, kinda like how Hero can screw themselves over as well. Sometimes stupidity can be your saving grace. All of Snake's moves come at a cost and it can be exploited. Grenade especially as it's a counter that, regardless of the fact that Snake chooses when to use it, it still blows him up alongside you. It's hectic and tactical. . .and honestly hilarious. Snake is really fun to fight against, whether win or lose.
As a Snake main, this is a really great start on how to fight the character! I find a lot of players struggle with this matchup because it's hard to find information on what Snake actually DOES, and most Snake guides are misinformed or are meant for advanced players. Keep up the good work. Earned my sub.
First an anti zoning guide, and now this? Amazing, just what we needed :^)
I enjoy these so much, excellent work on this one.
"always look at your opponent"
This tip is especially important when your fighting snake, you'll never know where and when his gonna put that c4 when your not paying attention
I am now living in fear of you making a Counter Intel episode on Dedede
It's actually crazy how much less scary Snake is when you simply stop respecting his grenades
Awesome editing and overall great video!
You didn't talk about hitting cypher with a spike to extend your hitbox so it will last long enough to punish his airdodge, phew. Also, the Snake can get a bit closer to his nades than his opponent can, unless they pick the nade up or reflect them since that transfers the ownership of the nade.
fyi if snake deactivates nikita while you're hitting it, it can still blow up. seen commonly to hit through fox's firefox and ness' pk thunder 2
This is the first video of yours I’ve seen, and oh my god the cinematic shot work is amazingly well done, it’s clear that you put a lot of work into your videos
06:18 agh, I get the reference but cant remember the exact game... either metal gear solid or snake eater codec conversation.
Amazing video
You desperately need to make a video on how to never lose to Steve again for the community’s sake
There's a master snake player in a ring that I cannot win again. I play as Simon and Marth and he camps hard
What sacred said, if you make one on Wii Fit that will be a small number of people (it should be the opposite of small, really) that know how to counter me.
For real though, solid work. Keep it up.
Anti Sonic guide next please?
Studying snake i see😑
quick question is there any situation where you WOULDN’T advise “just camp them harder”
No
@@Glyphmoney * see Gmoney how to think like a zoner video :)
If you lose the long term game like when you're very light and trading is bad.
