He definitely has things to work on still but good lord he just got on campus and looks poised in the pocket and confident . His awareness and arm strength and athletic ability are insane . Just need to add some insane 5 star wr to this current recruiting class along with Wilson next year and Florida is pretty nuts
I think people don’t realize how good this kid could be in Billy’s RPO offense..:this was the missing piece to the puzzle a dynamic duel threat QB Mertz was just the best Billy could afford at the time…not saying Mertz is a duel threat guy but he does has nice scramble speed
He's a big shifty guy gonna be hard to tackle with his ability to throw on the move I don't think he would get sacked that much. Interceptions will happen as a freshman that's true but there weren't that many bad throws today..
At least DJ isn't a thief and won't get arrested for stealing a laptopn, he will be much better than that other guy that was kicked off the Gators team
I agree. Cam was a fumbling, bumbling thoroughly dejected headcase when he first stepped on the field at UF. Lagway is leaps and bounds ahead of Cam at the same stage of his development - in a number of areas. DJ is superior in accuracy, poise and the simple ability to run even a dumbed down spring game offense as a true FR. For the sake of not piling on too much, I'll leave the academics/honor court/character discussion for another occasion.
I dont think he's "Baby Cam". The way he throws the ball and pocket presence is not similiar to Cam. He does have a pretty good arm and throws a tight spiral. Good pocket awareness as well. Good athletic ability too. Id say his game resembles Deshaun Watson at Clemson.
I think the issue was more that the game setup required him to scramble more (getting tagged was a down vs. tackle). I'm sure he hangs around in the pocket a second or two longer if it's regulation rules
Playing behind the 2nd string OL vs the 1st team DL probably had some effect efficiency-wise, but your point is well-taken. IMO, DJ's a fair bit faster and more agile at 6'4"-240 than Tebow was and will be a massive challenge for a DB or a LB when he gets into the secondary. I got used to thinking of him as being in the 6'2" - 220 range, and not nearly as physical as TT, especially off tackle. It's hard to imagine any QB not named Tebow running with more brute power between the tackles than Tim. But when it comes to being a real load to take down in the open field, because of the slightly better speed and agility, DJ would be my pick. FTR, AR was the one of the greatest athletes I've ever seen at UF and is significantly faster than DJ or TT. But he was never a consistent threat as a passer due to subpar accuracy and difficulty reading defenses. DJ has shown surprising touch and accuracy at this very early point that AR would almost certainly struggle to match to this day. There is a chance that DJ could be monster for UF sooner than most of us thought possible.@@wherewolf85

Well you don't think .. he's only 18-19 years tf
He and Jackson Arnold from last year look way too comfy throwing in that pocket for freshmen, they're going to be problems in the SEC.
@@sheldonwalker229599% sure he’s 17, he graduated early, technically he’s still a HS senior
He is a better passer, not as athletic as AR, maybe 4.6 40. I hope he is more durable and keeps getting better as a passer.
thanks for the video
Decisive quick reads 🏆shows promise.
Sheesh that was quick 🔥🐊
this is billys last chance 😂

He he gettin some packages come fall
well.... he is 100% a freshman.... 2 good throws. Everything else was a sack or an interception.

Be real... most of those "sacks" wouldn't have happened in a real game. DJ would definitely broken 75% of those "sacks"
Who catches like that? That's how you rock a baby not catch a football!
A unpolished Steve McNair
Remember guys it’s just a spring game scrimmage no telling what will happen when it comes to the Ws and Ls when it counts
Reminds me a lot of culpepper
So did Emory Jones...🤣

These are highlights? You all have the bar at low.
Idk if its the OL or he’s just not comfortable in the pocket. Really good arm tho

They didn’t play soft defense Florida does their sprint game different.
