Thanks for the great hacks!! One of the best things about camping is prepping ahead of time, creating a great meal, pulling it off at the campsite with little or no effort. We love corned beef hash when camping, but it takes quite a while to evaporate the moisture and get it to start browning. So I now pre-cook it at home, add some extra potatoes, onions, peppers, etc. Then I cool it, vacuum seal it flat, and freeze it. Then when we are at camp, it's just a matter of throwing it into a pan to just heat it, and adding our eggs. Takes so much less time when you want your breakfast. Also acts as another "ice pack" in the cooler, and it saves on fuel. I also pre-cook my bacon, and will sous vide meats so they're all ready to go. It's a good amount of prep, but well worth it when you're there and you just want to eat lol.
Thanks for the great info. Anytime we take our cooler ANYwhere - we freeze water bottles and use those to keep things cold in our cooler. You can also freeze chopped onions. I usually keep chopped onions in my freezer at home and just scoop out what I need for a recipe. I keep pancake mix in a ketchup bottle in my fridge. I make up a batch at the beginning of the week and just make a few at a time when the kids want them. Easy and no mess plus my 6-year-old loves to squeeze the bottle. I've also seen where people mark on the water bottle the egg count. We use extra fast food condiments all the time. 1 tip - store them in a plastic container when packing them. Sometimes they can get squished and pop when they're stored in zipper-type bags.

In my camping gear and bug out bags, I keep straws filled with seasonings. Mark them and when needed either cut or scissor open. I use a lighter or match and my multitool pliers to reseal. I also have a bunch of straws I cut down to fill for one use seasoning pkts. I save shale straws as they are bigger. I have also bought large straws at restaurant supply stores for this purpose as well. The straws take up such little space too.

Right on. You can add a little baking soda to the mix or even egg whites I believe if you really wanted to before cooking, which will help make them fluffy again. 😊🤙🏽
I'm old and single. I also don't care for the trinity and mirpoix from the store. Cut too small, proportions wrong, etc. So I prep mine and freeze in quart freezer bags. Same for Mexican veggies. One thing. On your bin video, if you've got a cast iron skillet, get a baster lid and a camp oven. And Lodge has a steel griddle that's deeper and has nice big handles. Also, the gloves are nice, but take a couple of kitchen towels (4). They're great hot hands and will save on your paper towels. Happy Trails!

If you fill a wide mouth bottle with eggs, with the yolk unbroken, they will remain unbroken. Just pour into the pan for fried eggs. This is good for one time,or maybe scrambled the second time.
For the pancake mix in the bottle, use a bottle you can see through. Add only the dry mix and mark how high the water would go when you add it. Just add the water, shake, and pour. That way the mix is still fresh when you use it.
The method works when making 1/2 a recipe too. If it calls for 1 egg, how do you portion out? Mix in measuring cup, save the rest for breakfast. LOL, most of the time I'll just use the whole egg, but it works.
Such good stuff guys! A tip that is universally helpful for food and cooking (for me) is really good grill gloves. I have what look like welding gloves. I can pick up hot cast iron, adjust grill height. Place down fresh wood to the fire without burning your hand etc.
Thanks man! 😊 Yeah haha I made it a point to mention the gloves cause they are a must have. I use them all the time around the fire pit. I actually linked a couple pairs in the video description for anyone who’s interested. 😊🤙🏽
.. Best cast grill gloves i have found IS Harbor Freight Leather welding gloves .. also use when winter camping in a hot tent handling the metal stoves ..
Just found your page and agree with your mindset... I've grown up camping in the Allegheny Mountains my whole life and think your videos are very informative for those people who don't camp often or at all... thanks much!
Oh and I'm bringing trays of eggs, they're big in our diet, and where we live, food is considerably cheaper than the city near where we go camping, so we take it all 🤣 we usually have food left over, so whatever is suitable gets given to other campers, or dropped at a foodbank, coz we're not taking it home again.
One think you can do is buy liquid eggs--pre scrambled eggs in a milk carton. Only a bit more expensive than normal eggs, but you have a carton you can just pour as much as you want.
The problem with Egg (milk cartons) is that the Carton will melt away with the water in the cooler as the ice Melts. Plastic is better so that you don't have to cook the eggs right away 😁
Wonderful tips I’ve watched the camping item s videos as well. I was thinking about that cold brew coffee great idea then thought about even freezing severally have for a few days and keep your cooler colder at the same time … I have only gone out in a four nights ,three states car camping trip. I’m getting my gear together now doing videos on my channel about my items purchased I put on my community page as a post as well
Before I talk about Cold Brew Coffee...Love your videos. My wife and I are empty nesters & will start camping. However, cold coffee and cold brew coffee are not the same. Cold Brew is brewed about 16-24 hours at room temp. Try it! Great tasting coffee! :)
@@WhereWeWild It should be noted that it tastes best "brewed" in a dark space like a closet or upper kitchen cabinet. It is worlds better as the OP mentioned.
Just found your channel by accident lol I really really as an RN, who is worked couple decades in post critical care knows the importance of keeping bacteria and stuff out of your hand so I really think that the eggs in the container the bottles is awesome because the best reason is because you don’t have to worry about getting any of that egg on your hands and in an area where you’re not gonna be able to wash as welland salmonella is a mofo he hee hee
Gosh you guys really gave us soo much really cool camping advise!!😊 My husband and I were just getting ready for a camping trip to Cachuma Lake SB since we are both just retired we have lots of time and weekdays to camp now!!😊 We just seen Tears for Fears last night at the Hollywood Bowl and a little hung over today and we were chillin and came across your site and just wanted to let you know we binged your site for about 4hrs. I must compliment you two on your site so informative and pleasant to listen to you both not like boring very entertaining! Keep it up we subscribed and will be following you on your journey to NY that’s where I’m from and my husband’s from Holland!❤️
Awesome! So happy to hear you’re enjoying the content! Thanks so much for the nice comment and thanks for watching! Tears for Fears puts on a great show, one of our favorite bands! We saw them open for Hall & Oats a few years ago. 😃😎🤙🏽 Have fun on your camping trip!!! Thanks again for the support! 😊
@@WhereWeWild We are at that one also and yeah they are soo good!! Also went last year and the Devanals opened up for them and they were also great! Keep on doing what your doing❤️
Something I started doing is placing items in 2 gallon zip-loc bags for better cooler organization. Easier to just pull out the whole bag marked meat or whatever than digging endlessly through ice trying to find something.
Nice 😊 We like to freeze all the meat ahead of time so it last a bit longer and it’s like adding extra ice to your cooler. Also if you freeze up big 1 liter water bottles or even gallon jugs of water you don’t ever have to deal with the bags of ice or them melting! 🤙🏽
@@WhereWeWild I also freeze mine too and use my Food Saver machine to seal the contents so no matter where the meat is in the cooler it never gets wet.
I just put a healthy amount of coffee in a regular coffee filter and tie it up with white cotton thread. Put a bunch of these in a baggie and you're all set. Pour hot water over a bag, in a cup. Let it steep for a couple of minutes then dispose of the bag in the fire. My secret mix is one tablespoon of inexpensive coffee to one teaspoon of espresso coffee.
Really we never had good luck trying that! Maybe we didn’t let it steep long enough or something because it always seemed so watery. 🤷🏻♂️😂 Maybe it’s that’s secret mix of yours! 😎😊 That’s sweet for quick clean up! The French press and Aeropress are really great though we really enjoy them. ☕️☺️
I do big annual trips to the high country. I set up base camps and spike camps. Packing your food in reverse order is really important. I make a daily menu on Excel (yes I am a 63 year old geek) and then build the grocery list from the menu and pack the coolers from last day at the bottom to first day on top. It saves money, waste and time. I use the water bottle and eggs on my kayak river runs. An egg is an egg and keeping them in water bottles was a great hack a good friend showed me years ago… We freeze our water, load them up in our kayak coolers (they look like a mini kayak) and it keeps all our food in good shape for 3-4 days on the water. Also… eat your perishables first and then go to the good ole dehydrated stuff. That pancake mix hack is the bomb! I am doing that this next trip! Thank you for that. I am a French press Moka pot nut… plus… I am a certified coffee-holic lol. I pre measure 1/4 cup of my favorite Community Coffee with Chicory in the half size ziploc snack bags. I can carry 5 of them in my Stanley French press… plenty of the good stuff. I already have 4 tins of Jiffy pop in my camp box… I can skip the movie and enjoy my popcorn while listening to campfire stories. Burn up the waste and save the wire handles to make lantern hangers or whatever. I use the plastic test tubes with caps 1/2”x3-1/2” size for handy spice containers for my back pack cook kit… cheap on Amazon. You two are spot on… you can buy the ketchup, mustard, Mayo packs from Amazon also… but you get a thousand of them… I won’t say how to get a few at a time! I love your videos. I have been camping since I was a kid and I never stop learning things. Thank you for the tips.
That’s awesome, thanks for sharing! 😃 Jaime says your Excel menu is genius!! We are also coffee-holics lol most important part of our day! 😂 Thanks so much for the nice comment, we’re happy you enjoy the videos and really appreciate you watching ☺️ Ps: The pancake mix is definitely the bomb! 💣😎🤙🏽
The cooler hacks (pack in reverse/frozen meat and water bottles, eggs, etc) also work for those of us with 12V fridges. I haven't tried the pre-cutting vegetable idea but I really like it! I have the tictac containers and use the jumbo ones for spices we use most. Cast iron to the table is another good one. Do you put anything down on the table to prevent scorching? It would be a must-have if wild camping and using a folding plastic table.
@@jonny6758 While driving the fridges are powered through the vehicle charging system. They don't take a lot of power because they only kick in when the temp needs regulation. Otherwise they act like a cooler. At camp I plug into a power generator (like a Jackery) I think my fridge only draws 25-35 Amps when running? Add in a solar panel to the system and you can go off grid for a long time. Other people work on a "two battery" vehicle system. One is used solely for starting, with the second for powering other loads (lights, fridges, etc)
Yeah they work pretty well! 😃 Some of them are made better than others but, sometimes the finer spices can leak out a little bit, we just keep the whole thing in a ziplock for travel just in case. 😊
@@WhereWeWild Ya… I always look for more ideas for 🏕️. Prepping is so much easier! My boyfriend always bring everything he has been camping longer then I have…10 years for me. So now instead of fully truck 🛻 load I got him down for almost half. 🛻
The week before heading out I fill gallon freezer zip lock bags with ice and store in the refrigerators freezer compartment. I fill each bag using a 2 cup measuring cup scooping 4 times. I might make 6-8 bags Squeeze out the air and lay flat in the refrigerator freezer Bags can go on bottom, sides and top of the cooler. I do add a 10 lb ice bag to the cooler . Bonus-ready ice bag for sprains and sore muscles. Save the bags and turn inside out to dry out. Can be used multiple times. Happy camping
We camp very very simply - no cooking - no need for cold storage. - Breakfast - cereal & long life milk. - Coffee / Tea - buy later at a nice coffee shop. - Lunch - something from a deli or market. Fruit. - Dinner at tent - Large salads and bread with tinned fish in a sauce . - Wine or beer. Tinned fish is very cheap, healthy, variety of fish, doesn't need refrigerating. Buy enough tins for your trip, then every couple of days fresh salads and bread. We take a large plastic cereal bowl each, which doubles up as a plate for dinner, a spoon, knife, fork, bread knife, tin opener and corkscrew. Wine glass.
Interesting! That’s what’s great about this stuff, there are so many ways to go about it! It’s about what works best for you and what you enjoy the most! 😊🤙🏽
Something I do is put everything I need for each meal in a gallon ziplock bag, label and put it (as you suggest) in the cooler in reverse order. You reach in, grab a single bag and close it up. For raw meat, put it in a ziplock INSIDE of the bigger ziplock. For cleanup, wipe with a paper towel, spray with diluted spray bleach, wipe down and store. Every 3 or 4 days I dig out the soap and wash everything up.
Make some kitchen pepper. It's easy to make since you make it to your taste. You can use black pepper chili pepper powder garlic powder onion powder paprika and whatever ground spice you like.
I credit you two for me now using the frozen water bottles in my cooler. My struggle is finding bottles to freeze, since I literally just drink from Nalgene bottles at home. 😛
Sweet 👊🏽😃 They’re great man. We live with a few of them in our freezer at all times lol they are awesome to bring fishing. Like I’ll throw one in the side bottle holder of my backpack and put an unfrozen water next to it, or a yeti bottle, protein shake, or liquid IV, or whatever and it keeps it cold. Drink that first, and then by the time I need more the frozen one is starting to melt and I have that cold drink. 😎🤙🏽 A lot of times I don’t even get to that and can just put that bottle back in the freezer when I get home. We reuse them all the time. Usually before a camping trip we will hit Costco and buy a case of Kirkland 1 liter waters, or a case of Smart waters. Those bottles work really well for us. 😊
... The older opaque Nalgene bottles work excellent for freezing and boiled water at night in sleeping bag as body heater .. New material doesn't work as well ... I use them frozen in my fishing boat cooler as well ,, cold drinking water when they thaw .. over past 30 years ,probably have 2 dozen ,, they last forever ...
Hey I like the idea of the pancake mix in the ketchup bottle. I'm assuming this needs to go in a cooler, even if it's just "mix and water" How long will this go in a cooler before it goes bad? I'm debating having this for the end of a week long camping trip, meaning it would be sitting in a cooler for 5-6 days potentially. Thanks!
@@davidpease5245 Should last a few days if kept cold in the cooler, might lose some fluffiness the longer you wait to cook it. But if you’re looking to have them at the end of a longer trip you might just want to bring the mix and add the water in while you’re there. 😊🤙🏽
I have bottles of water in the bottom of my chest freezers permanently, they're my emergency water supply, and for camping, plus, they keep the food higher in the freezers so I don't have to dive to the bottom for what I need. I have been known to take my freezer camping when there has been a crowd of us for a few weeks. Had a generator, but it died the first day, then rented one for as long as we could, but still had about 10 days after that. Surprisingly, my upright freezer kept everything frozen much longer than the small chest freezer, which ended up being used as a fridge, just put the days food in there to thaw out, and keep the fridge stuff cool. People think I'm stupid, but I'm out there to camp, I don't want to be running to the shops every second day for supplies lol 😂
Really appreciated the packing in reverse of the cooler. Wonder if you'd ever do a video about camping/hiking meal planning? PS: Like your channel ... subbed.
Nice 🤙🏽 Hmm just depends on what you like to eat and how much time and energy you want to spend on cooking out there. Can make ahead some foil packet style meals at home to bring along in your cooler to just throw on the fire, or you can spend a whole day prepping and slow cooking a stew from scratch. It’s really up to you 🤷🏻♂️😊
Thanks for the video. Quick question; your silicone reusable sandwich bag, does it stay water tight if you put it in cooler? I was thinking about picking up a set of Stashers, but they are kind of pricey, so I would like to know your opinion of them.
Stashers are great! The seal is much thicker than a ziplock bag so as long as it’s completely sealed you shouldn’t have an issue. We usually don’t have much water in our cooler either because we use the frozen water bottles instead of a bag of ice. 😊🤙🏽
Love it! Thank you! I am experimenting with canned coffee for camping now. Thanks for the effort of putting the video together. Learned something new. Subscribed!

Hahaha yeah I mean the popcorn we make is way better than Jiffy Pop but 🤷🏻♂️😎😁🤙🏽 Old school though I love it! Shaking that thing back and forth on the stove!? Classic! 😊
@@WhereWeWild yep.. I'm a Gen Xer.. the thought just cracked me up.. been a long time since I even thought of Jiffy Pop.. thanks for the awesome spontaneous memories I got to rethink about that I got to make with my family on our camping trips . I got gifted my grandparents antique popcorn maker.. thats over 100 yrs old and we use it all the time.. at home and on camping trips.. new memories with the old school ways.. Stay Cool and Blessed🙃
@@WhereWeWild tell people because Jiffy pop, although an adorable and iconic snack food is full of crap if you read the ingredients so you making your own damn popcorn is way better. Also when you were saying about the can and I was like yeah, that damn thing too small but then I realize hey you got those three servings of wink wink, a cans of nitrous, and it has the screw on calf if you can burn the rubber part of it out first, that would be probably a good Well one person snack, popcorn size can anyway you know take the rubber out and put the lid back on it probably will have enough pressure in there for it to pop. Good but not be explode or maybe not I don’t know you’d have to figure out how to get with the lid. Lol but the can right the real tall one with the you know what I’m talking about?..
Hey i recently found out that soda cans have a plastic liner inside so I would assume the plastic would melt over the popcorn so probabaly best to stick with aluminum foil
Plastic on the inside??? 🤔 Hmmm never heard of that one. Not much room in them to make much popcorn anyway haha so regardless of if that’s true about the plastic… the foil or even a cast iron makes much more anyway🍿😁🤙🏽
Just an fyi on eggs: we use eggs from our chickens, but any fresh eggs this will work... you do NOT need to refrigerate them, so keep them on top of your food bin in your camp kit.
You have chickens? That’s awesome! And yeah that’s interesting. In America the way the eggs are washed and processed they are stored in the fridge, in Europe since they’re processed differently preserving the cuticle around the egg they don’t refrigerate them and get them to consumers much quicker because they have a shorter shelf life. We live in America and just have to buy our eggs at the store since we have no chickens haha so we refrigerate them.
... Good tips .. .... For many years I also use the bigger drinking straws ,, some of the fast food outlets use clear ,, some use red ,, nice way to keep separated ,, cut to desired length ,, pinch the end with needle nose pliers and melt ,, put spices , med tablets, (different meds in different colored straws ,, most meds have lettering on them ),, strike anywhere matches (full size ),, Vaseline coated cotton balls torn into thirds work best ,, for waterproof fire starters ,, push into straw with a match stick ... pinch and melt the opposite end ... make a project of these for the whole family or a a bunch of friends over for a gear night ..... when needing a tablet or two ,cut the straw across cleanly at the two tabs removed ,, approx. 1/2" ,,,,,then fold and pinch the straw and use the remaining "cap" to put over remaining contents .. have these in a cook kit or med kit for many years . ...
Never really tried to find out haha but you keep that air tight bottle cold and they should last awhile. Definitely longer than your average couple day camping trip.
Hahahaha! 🥞😋😃 Thanks man! Oh yeah the cast irons are the best. 😎 Skillet. Griddle. Dutch oven. Can cook almost anything on them. Usually just some water and a stiff brush nothing crazy, and if I can I’ll heat it back up to dry it out and wipe some fresh oil in it with a paper towel while it’s hot. 🤙🏽
Egg holders work great as long as you’re not on a very rough road. The more the truck bounce, the more likely it is you’ll have a couple of broken eggs when you get to camp

If you fill a wide mouth bottle with eggs, with the yolk unbroken, they will remain unbroken. Just pour into the pan for fried eggs. This is good for one time,or maybe scrambled the second time.

Shes beautiful!
For the pancake mix in the bottle, use a bottle you can see through. Add only the dry mix and mark how high the water would go when you add it. Just add the water, shake, and pour. That way the mix is still fresh when you use it.
Yeah that’s smart haha sometimes we will just bring along one of those pre made ones in the yellow bottles that all you need to do is add water 😁🤙🏽
I LOVED the idea of scrambled eggs in the bottle ! Why didn't I, me, moi think of that ????
That is one of our favs for sure! 😊
The method works when making 1/2 a recipe too. If it calls for 1 egg, how do you portion out? Mix in measuring cup, save the rest for breakfast. LOL, most of the time I'll just use the whole egg, but it works.
@@nomadmarauder-dw9re Love u guys ! Safe travels.
Thanks 😊 Welcome to the channel 🤙🏽
Oh and I'm bringing trays of eggs, they're big in our diet, and where we live, food is considerably cheaper than the city near where we go camping, so we take it all 🤣 we usually have food left over, so whatever is suitable gets given to other campers, or dropped at a foodbank, coz we're not taking it home again.
My cooler tip. Freeze your meals, and precool your cooler. Avoid air, try rigid foam on top and lower it as needed. Drinks in own cooler.
Have you been watching our cooler hacks video? 🥶🤔😎🤙🏽
One think you can do is buy liquid eggs--pre scrambled eggs in a milk carton. Only a bit more expensive than normal eggs, but you have a carton you can just pour as much as you want.
Yup! Beaters! 😃 Haha we just use the old water bottle trick mostly works awesome 😊🤙🏽
Before I talk about Cold Brew Coffee...Love your videos. My wife and I are empty nesters & will start camping. However, cold coffee and cold brew coffee are not the same. Cold Brew is brewed about 16-24 hours at room temp. Try it! Great tasting coffee! :)

@@OldBrownDog Thanks! Glad you enjoyed them! 👊🏽😊
@myvenusheeler Sweet 😊
An egg is an egg and keeping them in water bottles was a great hack a good friend showed me years ago…
We freeze our water, load them up in our kayak coolers (they look like a mini kayak) and it keeps all our food in good shape for 3-4 days on the water.

Thanks! 😊 Yeah depends on the table haha obviously don’t want to lay a hot cast iron on plastic 😬😂
How do those 12v keep on car truck battery 🔋
@@jonny6758 While driving the fridges are powered through the vehicle charging system. They don't take a lot of power because they only kick in when the temp needs regulation. Otherwise they act like a cooler.
At camp I plug into a power generator (like a Jackery) I think my fridge only draws 25-35 Amps when running? Add in a solar panel to the system and you can go off grid for a long time. Other people work on a "two battery" vehicle system. One is used solely for starting, with the second for powering other loads (lights, fridges, etc)

I was talking about the spices for camping to my boyfriend for next year. Pill boxes interesting.
Yeah they work pretty well! 😃 Some of them are made better than others but, sometimes the finer spices can leak out a little bit, we just keep the whole thing in a ziplock for travel just in case. 😊
@@WhereWeWild
Ya… I always look for more ideas for 🏕️. Prepping is so much easier! My boyfriend always bring everything he has been camping longer then I have…10 years for me.
So now instead of fully truck 🛻 load I got him down for almost half. 🛻
Check your freezer section for bags of pre-cut veggies. Frozen meats, etc.
We’ve definitely don’t that on the fly 👊🏽😎
The week before heading out I fill gallon freezer zip lock bags with ice and store in the refrigerators freezer compartment. I fill each bag using a 2 cup measuring cup scooping 4 times. I might make 6-8 bags Squeeze out the air and lay flat in the refrigerator freezer Bags can go on bottom, sides and top of the cooler. I do add a 10 lb ice bag to the cooler . Bonus-ready ice bag for sprains and sore muscles. Save the bags and turn inside out to dry out. Can be used multiple times. Happy camping
Nice 😊🤙🏽
Just subbed. You don't need to scramble those eggs in a bottle.with the right size mouth on the bottle, they will come out one at a time
Something I do is put everything I need for each meal in a gallon ziplock bag, label and put it (as you suggest) in the cooler in reverse order.
Nice 😎🤙🏽

I get those clear squeeze bottles that look like the old-fashioned picnic ketchup bottles. No taste of ketchup.
Make some kitchen pepper. It's easy to make since you make it to your taste. You can use black pepper chili pepper powder garlic powder onion powder paprika and whatever ground spice you like.
Nice! I’ve actually never tried making my own rubs like that we will have to try! 👊🏽😃
I'm assuming this needs to go in a cooler, even if it's just "mix and water"
How long will this go in a cooler before it goes bad? I'm debating having this for the end of a week long camping trip, meaning it would be sitting in a cooler for 5-6 days potentially.
Thanks!
@@davidpease5245 Should last a few days if kept cold in the cooler, might lose some fluffiness the longer you wait to cook it. But if you’re looking to have them at the end of a longer trip you might just want to bring the mix and add the water in while you’re there. 😊🤙🏽

Haha thanks!

Technically your scrambled eggs can be frozen too! It won't change the texture of the eggs either!
Cool never tried that 😊
1/2" ,,,,,then fold and pinch the straw and use the remaining "cap" to put over remaining contents .. have these in a cook kit or med kit for many years . ...
Yes sir. The straws definitely work too. 😊🤙🏽
