    I've had this same brake kit on my 2500 6.7 for two years and they're awesome. Still plenty of life in them after 50,000 miles too. Huge difference from stock and they look great. 100% recommended!

      @AutoEdits so I've heard very good things about powerstop rotors & pads. All great reviews in relation to low brake dust and no rotor warping. However I've seen quite alot of complaints about the quality of the calipers. Lots of reports of rusting, leaking and general low quality on the calipers. How have yours held up over the last 5 years?

    • @monsterram6617
      @monsterram6617 Год назад +1

      @@jonh2408 Those were on the OE calipers but about two years ago I replaced all four rotors, pads, and calipers with Powerstop's kit and I haven't had any issues.

    • @jonh2408
      @jonh2408 Год назад +1

      @@monsterram6617 so the powder coating held up well... hasn't rusted through or flaked off?

    • @monsterram6617
      @monsterram6617 Год назад +1

      @@jonh2408 I hadn't really looked at them so I walked outside to check. There's no rust, at all. And the red powder coating is 100%. I wiped them down too, just to be sure.
      It's worth mentioning that I live on the coast of North Carolina where it rarely snows. So we never have salt/brine on the roads. If I still lived in Michigan, that would likely be a different situation. I'd imagine the people who've had issues with these calipers live in areas that see frequent road salt.

    Thank you for the reminders of the details of proper procedural detail that most people don't bother with in their garage, or even their shop, such as use of red and blue Loctite in the right places. Doing it right doesn't usually take any longer, but prevents unpleasant surprises down the road and years.

    Just wanted to let you know that I have had my new Powerstop brakes on for a few days now and the difference In performance from stock is amazing!!! Thank you so much for sharing this video with us! My next mission is to fit 37’s on my truck as soon as the 3” body lift is installed next week! I already have a Bilstein 5100 levelling kit on my truck with the front end set at 2.8” and a 1” rear spacer in the back. I did some trimming already just for my 35’s after I just had 2” hub centric wheel spacers installed. I am assuming that I’ll have to run with no wheel well liners up front. I’m amazed that no one has manufactured custom wheel well liners for folks like us wanting to run larger wheels on our Ram 1500’s! Seeing your build come along has inspired me to upgrade my own truck. Keep them coming!

    Like the paint scheme on your truck..... I checked with tire gurus and RAM 1500 4x4 with 20" wheels 305 is the biggest tires that can fit with minor modifications.....so thanks for sharing your mods. I am building an Overlander rig and trying not to go too high but want to fit decent tires for ground clearance and spend money on good strut/shock's to beef up the suspension. But I think I may end up getting different front wheels or offset adapter plates. Great videos, keep them coming!

    I had this exact kit for my 06 ram quad 1500, had it installed at a dealership. It did not perform as expected, pads were gone in 24k miles, unexpected. Looked closer when putting new pads on, 2 of the calipers were seizing. Was not prepared for next failure. 2weeks into new (powerstop z36 pads), pads were completely gone. My fault, I should have looked at rotors after calipers showed failing, rotors were warped causing the new calipers to bite harder, which destroyed the new pads. I ended up buying new rotors and pads (again). Bought Autozone duralast blackmax pads and blacked out rotors. In much better shape now. And so you have a driving background, I drove my truck to tow my boat (3500lbs), and drive long distance for trips, have a car for back and forth to work.

    ty so much for the video on how to install the powerstop brakes. I have a 2014 1500 ram crew cab 4x4 and installed the new rotars and pads. Didn't have the $ for new calipers but it's installed and I did the break in as stated on the handout. Your vid was straightforward and very helpful getting me to do it and not pay my dealer $1200.00 or a shop that was going to cost upwards of $600.00, again ty very very much.

    Those look great. Hey I use one of those mightyvac kits all the time and I have found that the bleeder valve threads needs to be wrapped with thread tape that's where those tiny air bubbles are coming from, around the threads.
    Cheers

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  6 лет назад +1

      That's an interesting tip... thanks!

    • @NeverEnoughPyro40
      @NeverEnoughPyro40 2 года назад

      You are absolutely insane, You are definitely not supposed to use thread tape on any of the bleeders , banjo bolts or any other of the brake components! That is some backyard mechanic BS, Those little air bubbles don’t mean a thing!

  • @williamswavely698
    @williamswavely698 4 года назад +3

    When you pump it up and open the bleeder valve, you are breaking the seal and sucking air between the bleeder and hose. That is why the air goes away when you open the bleeder more. Open the bleeder enough to begin with so the hose won't be the easiest spot for the suction to relieve itself and suck air. Just look back over the video, and you will see how the air stopped each time once you opened up the bleeder all the way.

    I was tought to always bleed the calippers furthest away from the master cylinder first, it's supposedly easier to get the air out that way. :)

      @AutoEdits  6 лет назад +5

      You would be correct! That is what I learned as well but because the video was already set up for that wheel I started there and it ended up working out perfect.

    • @Stuka87
      @Stuka87 6 лет назад +9

      On newer vehicles with 4 wheel ABS, this really is not an issue, as each wheel has a dedicated brake line. But on older vehicles, this is a very good tip.

    If someone else has already mentioned this.... disregard... but....
    If you use a vacuum bleeder, you have to be careful not to open up the bleeders too far. If you do, it will allow air to pull around the bleeder (threads) and show air in the fluid when there is none in the lines. As a rookie Army mechanic, I learned this on my own after wasting half an hour on a caliper replacement.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  6 лет назад

      Good tip. I account for that when I'm bleeding by pushing in the screw and waiting for the air to flow to the top of the fluid line. In the video you might notice that at the end of a bleed the tube is solid fluid.
      Again, great tip though!

    While it may not ever cause issues for you to use red thread lock on brakes, the rule of thumb I follow is if you are never taking it off again use red, for everything else blue usually does the trick.

    • @imsroll
      @imsroll 6 лет назад +2

      You don't do a lot of off-roading do you. Rule of thumb in off-road is, if you never want it off again use green and everything that is bigger then a 1/4" use red.

    Love the DIY Video. Looking to do this myself on my RAM 2017 BIGHORN. I’d like the beefed brakes that you installed. But I don’t do off reading nor have my truck lifted yet. It’s basically a daily driver...would it be overkill if I installed the same setup you have or do I go for the daily driver version? I want the best in performance braking but I don’t want any issues because I don’t have a big wheel setup like you

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  6 лет назад +1

      I highly recommend this setup for a daily driver! NO brake dust at all and just better performance all the way. I don’t think you need to do the red calipers unless you want them... my Jeep just has the z36 pads and rotors and is great.

    Jason when you are using the actuator bleeder do you start from the rear passenger brake line first or does it not matter?

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  Год назад +1

      I doesn't really matter as much now that most vehicles have discrete lines to each wheel. Back in the day when that was the recommendation, both front and rear wheels had one line from the reservoir and a "T" to each side.

    I'd like to see a hybrid suspension. Coilovers that replace the limited strut travel, and mixed with a static 4 inch lift up front. For the rear, 4 inch variable rate coil springs, but no spacers. In essence, articulation. You know. For those big 37s you are rolling.

    Why did you lube the brake pad contact areas? I would think this would be a dirt serious magnet and cause them to prematurely seize. Especially if you go off paved roads at all. What I do to eliminate this issue is to undersize the brake pad contact points to ensure they have enough clearance to never seize. Just curious. Thanks.

    Hey Jason, question for you.....I have the Z23 brake package on my 2004 Acura TL, without new calipers. When I installed the kit roughly 3 months ago I made sure to follow proper procedures, lubing all the hardware and correctly breaking in the pads per the instructions. Fast forward to now...whenever I get the brakes warmed up with some semi-aggressive driving, the pads/rotors will hum and vibrate really bad, almost as if they have been warped. I don’t see why they would be warped though if I did the proper break-in procedure and I really don’t ever brake aggressively. I’ve even tried turning the rotors on a brake lathe to remove any runout, which helped for a short time, but the braking vibrations came right back when I attempted some semi-aggressive driving again. Have you experienced anything like this with your powerstop kits? If not, do you have any clue what might be the cause? Thanks.

      Sounds like something else is wrong... like a bearing, but it's hard to know from here. I have a ton of very hard miles on the Jeep and this video doesn't even show how hard I beat on this truck on that trip and the brakes held up perfect. Good luck on yours!
