PREACH BROTHER - PREACH!!! Had all this go down on my 2016 L405 Td6 when I bought it last year. Had not yet found my new best friend Jimmy O'Riley... $2,500 later I had a new DPF and 500 miles later same issue... Cleaned the nozzle, did the reset with my GAP IID - Now I keep the DEF full(overfull according to the GAP tool) and no issues with thousands of miles driven.
Fortunately a local petrol station by me has added smaller pump handles to the large Adblue tank that was exclusively for lorries. Easy to fill up, no plastic containers and, more importantly, is much cheaper.
These work as long as the neck on your tank has a magnet in , otherwise they will not dispense , i have a magnet adaptor so i can fill a 20ltr can for a digger
We have a 1986 sierra 2.8 v6 xr4x4. On the airbox it's got a little sicker, telling you about valve clearances and the gaps required, and how to adjust the timing, for leaded and unleaded fuel, Not only do handbooks now tell you not to drink screenwash, but owners and mechanics can't even read the bloody dashboard telling them what's wrong with the vehicle. It's incredible how times have changed in 37 years. I dread to think what this world is going to be like in another 50 years
We have had the car 30 years and 80k miles, its had two gearboxes, 3 clutches, but the engine has never gone wrong, in fact the heads have never been off, let's see how these eV batteries are in 20 years time.😂
Think what happened since then. Hint: OBD2. Mechanics are just glorified admin assistants reading off a scanner. Very few posses the skills to accurately diagnose anymore.
@@HaggisMuncher-69-420 That's an utterly stupid comment. OBD/CANBUS cars can almost NEVER be diagnosed and fixed without reading the codes. Tell me genius, how do you diagnose a lean burn or misfire on a cylinder by listening to it?
That could be a problem basically on any adblue systems. Adblue crystalizes and leaves all kind of issues. When you have the chance to fill it up at a fuel station without a jug just from the pump when you refuel, top that up too, and you'll save yourself a lot of time for sure, and as this example tells you even thousands of euros or pounds.
The dashboard message telling you to fill the adblue tank should be enough. People are ignoring it and then the level gets too low and won't reset by itself.
My GF has a Volvo XC40. Going to try this out! She has already been to the shop with the car about 6 times, changed sensors and more and nothing helped. Now they want to change the whole system! Costs about 4000 pounds. hope this works! Thank you for the information ;) Good luck, and all the best wishes.
Thank you for this, you sharing this knowledge helps a lot of diy people and much appreciated. Not this particular issue but I had a pressure sensor fault if it wasn’t to your video Land Rover was happy to put a new DPF in at £3k which wasn’t even faulty!
The general rule for adblue is to add 10 litres at a time. Most tanks are around 17 litres but if you just add small mounts the car doesn’t recognise the level. I have run cars with adblue for 9 years and only had a problem once when, the dealer failed to top up the adblue at annual service but listed it as done. This caused the terminal countdown to start but the nice RAC man sorted it out for me in minutes.
So a message comes up on the dash saying top up the ad blue and people still don't bother to top it up I'm confused lol I also get what you mean about garages storing it incorrectly I stopped at services yesterday there must of been 40 of them containers sat outside in the sun..
Thanks again for your honesty. I have a question about the launch gun you use, does it turn to a vapour as it’s pumped in or is it still a liquid? I have several air tools that might work be don’t want to waste the liquid if it’s going in wrong..
Honestly, I'm seriously considering spending out on a decent OBD-II tool so I can do most of the diagnostics myself. I have a simple code reader/clearer now which is good for the basics at least.
Hi Jimmy great video....the engine warning light on vw crafter went on had diagnostics they said I need new adblue tank as tanks heater system faulty....but reckon I'll top up first and see if fault fixed?? What do you think...??
The Jags and Land Rovers have multiple issues with this problem. Don't get me wrong this is the best first thing to try, but it rarely solves the issue for long.
My 2017 Vito has a farly small Ad Blu tank, maybe 10 litres. So on a long drive I need to top up the tank. But when I add say 5 litres the dash level takes for ever to register that the tank is now full! Very frustrating indeed. You almost need to keep notes to avoid running low. Crazy.
One of my customers brought a PSA product, and was told it did not have add blue, later found out it did and all gone tits up because it ran out of Add blue. Apparently the tank was hidden in the boot area?
From your experience, does it matter if you put non oem branded def/adblue into the tank as long as it meet specs? Or have you seen faults simply because it meets specs on the bottle but its non-oem?
I wonder if it's the quality of the ad blue maybe not enough pigs urine I've had two problems using Tesco's own first time the garage just drain the tank and reset it and it was okay after I had problems calling out the RAC on at least four occasions and resetting it, and made no difference. so this time I was down to 50 miles it wouldn't clear so I drained the rest of it from the tank and got a high quality and blue and reset and not been a problem. I think the sensor is very Twitchy on picking up the right formula if the formula mix is too diluted then it will keep triggering
It may not be so much the level but the quality or effectiveness of the adblue. If adblue is exposed to temperatures above 25 degrees C or below 5 degrees C it deteriorates quickly. Furthermore don’t be tempted to use adblue which has been sitting in a can for over 6 months. The NOx faults might well be a side effects of poor conversion of NOx emissions based on poor quality adblue. Your advice to top up every 2-4 weeks with fresh fluid is the best preventative measure. Also note the ammonia suspended in the adblue is very corrosion so make sure to clean off any drips with water after when refilling.
What scanner can I get (that is affordable) to clear these codes.....My ad blue was never empty, but it is reading empty and car won't start...need to clear codes to take it to repiar shop. Tow is too expensive.
I had a adblue issue before I changed the scr catalyst then after 3 months it’s started to smoke the adblue system is faulty again it smokes a lot it’s adblue issue but I have a question if I delete the system software is it still going to smoke? I hate the smoke
Would this fault cause the jeep to go into low performance mode ???? And also what is your overall opinion on the landrover discovery 5 2L diesel. Cheers.

nah, they get the pretend rangerovers on a finance they can't afford, so never service it + run everything on the empty, you have to phone them up to tell them they need to pay for the diesel for a road test, " is that not covered by the warranty"
Hi! I waited too long, until the adblue warning system said 350 km (which is not much). I added about 10l of certified (ISO standard '...') Adblue to the tank. It's been 3-4 days and the system hasn't recognized the new Adblue and its counting down, now on 140 km, and so on. So should i just add more? Or try filling to the top from a rank station? Have i understood uour video correctly? I reckon my tank has room for 17l. Happy for all the help I can get.
I could add that it's been a few days of below 0 degrees C heee in Sweden, but it hasn't been down to -11 that is said to be the freezing point of Adblue.
