I had a dentist say I needed a root canal 20 years ago, and I told him I wanted to think about it. I went to another dentist a week later, and said he could do the crown without a root canal and it worked fine. That was 20 years ago, and I still have the same old crown with no problems. I think it is a financial thing myself
Thanks for your comment, a dentist was trying to rush me onto a root canal with no other options and even in the x-ray there is still tooth material away from the nerve! I have no pain, sensitivity or anything indicating my nerve is damaged, no other tests were done to determine if a root canal was necessary. The doctor basically looked at the x-ray, peaked into my mouth and said "oh! Were gonna have to do a root canal and put a crown on." I'm feeling like it's a money thing too! Extra thousand dollars for a root canal
I had a new cap put on and the dentist recommended a root canal and I said no I'm fine. I've been in so much pain. Can't drink anything hardly and have been getting dehydrated lately because drinking hurts. Today my tooth is literally throbbing from walking in the cold.
A root canal kills the tooth and then you have dead tooth in your mouth. Each tooth has over 2 miles of tubules or "canals" in the tooth that will house bacteria in your tooth since the blood supply has been removed during the root canal. This will always leach in to your system and can affect your organs over time. I had a root canal and for 10 years I had ear nose and throat infections every couple of months. I would take antibiotics and get better then start the process all over again. My doctor and dentist ran tests and both said I was fine but could not explain why I would catch everything from everyone and end up with infections non stop. After fighting with my dentist to pull the tooth, he sent me to a orthopedic surgeon who put me on a dental CT machine. Within 10 minutes of being there, he came in and told me that my tooth was infected all they way down in to my bone. He pulled the tooth and I have not had a single infection since then and it's been about 7 years. I never get sick now either even when my kids are getting sick and I actually have a lot of vacation time again which used to be negative. There was a great article explaining all this that recently disappeared so that is why I am taking the time to right this. I told another person about this and her uncle had been getting sick and could not figure out why. She told me that he had just had a root canal. She told him and he had his tooth removed and was well again in next to no time. The threat is real. I am so glad I found out why and life is so much better not being sick so much. Best of luck to you if you are reading this!

Always had very bad teeth and had my first root canal at 13. By the time I was 22, I had most of my teeth root canaled. They lasted a good 40 years, even though I had some recapped later on. Now I am 65 and moving on to upper dentures, but I still have some lower teeth left. I probably could have bought a house with the money spent on teeth, but to be pain free and a decent smile means everything.
@@bumblebee4280 I know I had silver fillings early on as a child, if I remember correctly, they stopped using them when I was in my early teens in the 70's and started using composite resins which were cosmetically and held up better than the silver fillings.
Yes I didn’t either so I went to low income dental clinic. Had it pulled and we need all of my teeth pulled. End up with dentures. Better then being in pain though.
If done properly by a qualified specialist, root canals are no more painful than a filling - specialists are expensive though, good dentistry ought to be affordable for all
Just had one and disagree, they are not painful at all! If anything the financial part is more painful. I have good PPO insurance and still had to pay 450 after insurance covered 1K. Regardless it was well worth it the pain that comes from a root is bothersome and would be 10x worse if tooth no longer could be saved.
Removing the nerves from inside your teeth is a MUCH more painfull and complex procedure in comparison to a simple filling wich in some cases dont even require local anesthesia. Sometimes depending if theres infection present or not, or the size of the infection, the anesthetics dont work all that well due to the pus there, and the procedure ends up being a bit painfull.
@@ricardo5910Interesting, my dentist said the pain is exaggerated in mass media and most people but that would make sense if there is more bacteria. I was fortunate that I dint feel anything and was able to even eat cold ice cream that same day.
I live in India and today I successfully did my root canal without any pain. There just this numbness in mouth due to anesthesia. And you know what's the cost of it?? 150 indian rupees.. thats about US 2$ lol😂😂😂. It's dirt cheap here
I had a root canal some years back. It was recommended. The alternative was to have the tooth removed, which causes surrounding teeth to move back, which could be problematic. I don't think my health has suffered because of the root canal, but I hated the procedure, which involved 3 visits and hours in the chair. Tortuous.
I had my first visit before the lockdown. Before I could go for my second visit, there was an emergency lockdown and hospitals stopped attending to non-covid related problems and situations that weren't an emergency. No matter how much I tried to explain that I had to continue my root canal procedure, they refused to attend to me stating than it wasn't an emergency and the procedure required the emission of aerosols which was "high risk". It took me monthssss to finally get the second visit after the ease of the lockdown and by then, it was already infected again. I had to keep coming every week for 2 months before everything was finally okay. It was really a terrible period for me.
Less of a pain in the ass to just have the tooth pulled. Cheaper and there’s no possible way someone can not remove a tooth without plucking up. Then after the space has healed, go get a partial! Lots cheaper and works just fine. My teeth never shifted. At all after getting one pulled. Top or bottom. That’s a scare tactic.
Most pain I’ve had from the root canal is from the dentist and dental assistant pulling my mouth open and using the suction hose and sore jaw. No real pain in the tooth afterwards.
i just want to say how scared i am. my dentist was so rude and unprofessional to me. i’m 15, and i’ve had this tooth pain for abt 2 months. i couldn’t see a dentist bc they were all booked and money is tight at home, and many family issues were going on. i finally went; and my dentist was rude and practically shamed me for needing a root canal and having other cavities. he went to say “which do you want to do, the root canal or the extraction” i said “probably the root canal” and he said disrespectfully “i was not speaking to you, i was talking to your mom.” my mom was beyond pissed! he didn’t explain to me the procedure or anything. in fact that’s basically all he said. i was so upset, and now my nerves are crazy bc he made me feel terrible abt myself and didn’t even explain anything to me when i was clearly nervous. overall he sucks. but his office is all we can afford :( now i’m scared to get the root canal. it’s my very last tooth on the top left side of my mouth.
Hii. Did you get a root canal? Was it painful? I'm also 15 and a few months back I got fillings done and my dentist told me that if you get pain in the future then you'll need a root canal. And now I'm getting a little to no pain in my tooth so I'm kinda scared of getting root canal.

I’m 51 and the most I’ve had are fillings (knock on wood). I brush and floss daily, try to stay away from sugar and sticky foods. And I visit the dentist every 6 months. Both my parents had dentures early in life and that was enough for me to try hard to keep my teeth.
The silent tooth killer: night grinding/bruxism. It is worse than periodontal disease. It will cause you to lose your perfect teeth in 24 hours due to cracks and ligament sprains that cannot heal. Extraction is the only treatment. It is possible for multiple teeth to be affected in a single day. Oh, the horror.
Nope. I had so many expensive painful root canals. They all eventually failed. I pulled all of my teeth because I was tired of pain and dental work. Dentures may not be as good as real teeth and they take some getting used to. But at least my pain and anxiety is gone
they are..the shell. think of it like your head/skull. and the brain is the root canal. they remove the insides (root) and no more pain cause thats the thing that send signals to the brain of pain. and the shell (tooth inside the gum) remains in there (much better than a implant/metal screw) and the top of the tooth is circled, where the crown sits..and this is superior to a total removal an a implant placed, cause your body can still communicate with the shell still inside the gum. i have both..the one where i had rootcanal/crown its like nothing ever happened..its wonderful ten years later. my implant where everything was removed an a foreign metal post to hold the other version of a crown, i still get slight pain cause my body think sometimes its a bad thing in my jaw..even with bone/plasma preservation didnt help all the way . i still get issues..and for 2 years now its an off feeling from 2/10 pain...unlike my normal root canal/implant version (saved tooth) where its great, cause my shell is still there connected to everything

@@Ethan-ox4ck yea the root canal is removal of what makes the tooth alive. why you feel (pain) if they remove it, and replace it with an inert substance, there isnt any pain anymore cause tech its dead. just the tooth is left where it still can perform its mechanical functions (chewing) and i hope your getting a crown, so it protects the top where the holes went to reach the root . after the procedure youll feel better, just some pain where the needle went in to numb you, probaly only thing you feel for a day..then in maybe a week, two max, if your getting root/crown same day..itll feel normal again like nothing happened...and then like me 10 years later still going strong like it has always been there..trust me you want this over a implant...implant is when nothing else can be done, and you still want a tooth to eat with, but itll always be a wierd feeling 2/10 atleast how its been for me for 1 1/2 years
it's the best option we have. You can get an implant which is pretty good but nothing will match the contour of your natural tooth rising out of your gums.
The last specialist I went to for a root canal required 4 appointments, he told me on the first day, it will not cost any more, or any less no matter how many times he needs to go in and make absolutely sure there is no bacteria left behind. Now I have an infected root canal 🦷 15 years later it’s so painful and they refuse to extract saying it needs to be retreated at this point I will be getting it extracted some place else.
I got a root canal some six months ago. One of the least painful dentist experiences I have ever had.. and that is to say there was no pain whatsoever during the procedure itself. There was a minor discomfort during the part where he melted the rods that are inserted into the roots, but that's more from the heat transfer to the healthy teeth flanking the tooth getting the treatment. The tooth itself, naturally, felt nothing. This was done on the first tooth behind the upper right canine. I did not get a crown for this procedure. It was just treated as a regular, if longer, cavity fix. The main source of tears would have been the cost. It was some ~$800 total for two roots on the same tooth. However I was relieved when it was done. I had gone with an uncomfortable pressure at the root of my tooth for easily 7-8 years. I believe some filling I had gotten earlier had managed to kill the nerves, so I actually did a big part of the root canal with no anesthetics. Not the cleaning of the roots part, but the drilling down to the very end of the root. It was the initial treatment before the main one. He made sure I could feel nothing. Using the electric impulses. Heat. Poking at the nerves. I felt nada. For all I knew he was just carefully grazing the top layer of the tooth with a feather and it felt no different. That was my experience with root canals. No pain. No reason to fear anything. Just the cost is a bit unfortunate, but it is a highly specialized procedure that should actually be possible to avoid relatively easy as long as you just keep a decent oral hygiene.
That's because the root had already died! I'm similarly as tough... 'had a root canal after much resistance... three cleaning sessions (poo)... root canal installed no anesthetic... all to fail and be removed three weeks laterz!

@@NikkiMillerInspirations there was some pain days later but that is to be expected. When they do a root canal they are killing the nerve and cleaning out the tooth with medicine. If you have serve pain then they will have to keep on cleaning and putting meds until all the canal is cleaned and completely restored. My first ever root canal got infected and after I got a root canal again after it already was infected and spreaded to my gums and it was so painful I was in sooo much pain and it hurt so bad I was dying in pain and the insurance was taking like forever to approve it literally like it was insane and it non stop wouldn't stop hurting. I had an apicoectomy performed. Than the same spot got infected again and again like total 5 times in my life from 17 to like 22 and than I decided to finally take the tooth out bc they kept trying to save it idk why. Also it infected tooth behind it and I also needed a tooth canal behind it and total of like 4 crowns on just those two teeths now I need 2 more just those two teeth and I need to have 2 more root canals in other spots I just found out and my bonding fell off my broken tooth and it needs a root canal I hate teeth and it's not my fault they said I take great care of them it's due to dry mouth from meds and I got 10 cavities I never had a single cavity until I was 17 years old. I heard the medicine I am on destroys your teeth but like I didn't think like this how is this possible. 12 infections in 2 years from medication? omfg can I sue them seriously wtf 😒
@thehappycamper6788. I am glad that your root canals worked fine for life. Mine did not. Two teeth done that eventually were pulled. Two teeth capped that fell off twice...two different dentists. One eventuslly got infected and I chose to pull it. It cost me a grand total of $150 instead of $800 to $1k for root canal much less another cap. Second tooth (other failed cap) is now cracking and infection starting. Called around and lowest price quoted for extraction was $59 initial exam and $500 to pull, no antibiotic. He will give me a perscription to fill. What does a root canal cost in 2023 without dental insurance? One office wanted $800 for the extraction. Said I must have a bone growth powder fill in for the empty jaw socket which is an additional few hundred.....what???
My childhood dentist told me I needed a root canal because I had a bump around my gum (I now believe it was a callous from my retainer). He sent me to another dentist to have it done even though my dentist had done root canals. The other dentist told me it would take about 45 minutes for the whole procedure. And, he had taken X-rays. Nevertheless, over an hour into the procedure, I asked why it was taking longer than the allotted time. He answered that my tooth had done its own root canal. Apparently, our own body can heal itself and do what needs to be done. So, I asked him why would he create an artificial root canal if my body had already done it (apparently he had already drilled through my calcified tooth, according to him). He told me that he had issues with his tooth when he was younger and didn’t want me to go through it, too. He didn’t disclose everything before the procedure. I still have that small callous, and that tooth has slowly moved out of place which has allowed the other teeth to move out of place as well. All those years of retainers and braces still didn’t stop that tooth from shifting. No disclosure about what would happen after the fact. 🤨😡
Thanks bro I'm sitting here high off an oxy trying to not think about my tooth I have an appointment with the dentist on Wednesday and I couldn't be more grateful for dentists teeth pain is seriously insane
I got mine done last week and honestly the most painful part of the procedure was the injection, lasted about an hour and got it filled and topped with metal as is standard in the UK crazy how expensive things cost in the US but at the end of the day I'm glad I got mine done and if I want a crown in the future I can pay for that.

My root canal two years ago was almost pain free. Felt pain for like 2 seconds as they drilled through the tooth. After that-nothing the rest of the time
Another reason you might get a root canal. Because your dentist tried to give you a crown you didn't need and rolled over and caused peripheral damage to your inferior alveolar nerve during anasthesia, and then your dentist refuses MRI or other soft tissue imaging, saying that it must be inflamed nerve in the tooth. Giving you a root canal you didn't even need because they would not admit they messed up with anasthesia... but hey, at least I get a case out of it.
How does a dentist damage ur idb nerve and why would that mean ud need to have a root canal?? Doesn't the idb nerve innervation all ur lower molars/ premolars??
@@hasanal-ansari7118 The Inferior mandibular nerve of the 5th cranial nerve innervates the lower molars, premolars to the anterior teeth. inferior alveolar nerve? Alveolar refers to the maxilla, you meant Inferior mandibular nerve. If damaged, then patient could develop a trismus (pain to open or close). My dentist gave me the option of a root canal or extraction, but I don't have the expertise to make that decision. All I know is that my tooth is infected all the way to the root and is causing immense pain. I don't see why I'd want to keep a tooth that is infected. It seems like getting it extracted would prevent any future infection. Not to mention, if I got a root canal, I essentially have a dead tooth in my mouth. At that point, saving your real tooth doesn't really seem important. What I do know is that when the dentist told me my options, he seemed more confident about extraction versus a root canal.
@ktandeka I ended up getting the tooth extracted. The structural integrity of the tooth was too comprised, so a root canal likely wouldn't have been successful . I'll be getting an implant within the next year.

I am desperate for some real dental advice!!! :( To anyone that can spare their time and expertise: I had a Root Canal 4 months ago on a “hot tooth” molar #30 that was so sensitive, I couldn’t even be numb the whole way. The procedure itself was traumatic and painful. About 5 weeks ago, the pain came back. I went to my dentist and they suggested it was the crown being too big, they adjusted and the pain came back days later. I went in again, and they adjusted the crown further, insisting it wasn’t an infection. Pain, again, came back days later. Finally they took a CT Scan that showed a canal was missed, so I had a retreatment done later that week. For the first 3 days, I felt absolutely great! Then the pain came back worse than ever in the middle of the night, so bad that I went into the ER for a stronger painkiller. I was desperate for a 2nd opinion, so I went to another dentist that morning and he prescribed me steroids for inflammation, and a narcotic to help me get through the next few nights. The pain significantly subsided over that week, and the “hot tooth” feeling has finally gone away, but my tooth is still sensitive to touch and I definitely can’t chew on it. Today was my 2-week post retreatment check-up, my endodontist at my regular dentist office took another CT Scan and sat with me to show what she looks for. She insists there is zero infection present (she prescribed me antibiotics just in case) and that the root canal looks successful. She said although it may be frustrating to hear, she really wants to save the tooth and to asked me to wait 2-more weeks to see if it “heals”, as retreatment can be more invasive than the initial root canal. At what point do I go for extraction? I’m able to get by the day with regular Advil at this point (before I needed tramadol to get through the night) but shouldn’t I be concerned the tooth is still sensitive to wiggle 2-weeks after treatment? I should add, the man that performed the root canal to begin with did NOT perform the retreatment. I absolutely refused to go to him being he has rough hands and zero sympathy with trying to get me properly numbed. I appreciate anyone that’s taken the time to read this today,

Also, are antibiotics useful in reducing any residual bacterial inflammation that may reside in surrounding bone, after a RCT is done? You are the only dentist/video that has explained that an infected root can prevent you from getting numb, because the area becomes too acidic & dilutes the novocaine or lidocaine, great to know. I thought it was just the nerve was too overly stimulated, & the novo/lidocaine isn't strong enough to overcome that level of pain. This may explain why some people say their root canals were painful, while others say theirs weren't. Excellent to know! TIA
Dentures are looking better and better the more dental work I get problem is I have mostly intact teeth! But three extracted, one root canaled and two others that are nearing crowns.
Thank you doctor 👍. I have done my root canal last year. This time my other side of tooth has been infected and broke quarterly. Please suggest some solution what to do 😢
Never had a root canal but as a great example, a friend had 7 of them + crowns. He got them 24 years ago, zero problems to this day. Testament to how far a dentist who knows what they're doing goes. Meanwhile I had one of my extractions fail; I got dry socket (unimaginably painful, literal 11/10 pain if ever it existed and whoever invented that paste is a saint), which then turned into a nightmarish systemic infection - through no fault of the dentist, I was just too rough with the clot and dislodged it then didn't clean it diligently enough. There are risks to everything. You introduce bacteria into your bloodstream every single time you draw blood, doesn't matter if it's a tiny papercut or what and yet you obviously aren't dead or sick 24/7. You're infinitely more likely to get an infection from a cut than a properly sealed root canal. I've never understood the fearmongering about them.
Watch Root Cause documentary on RUclips, then you'll understand why 100% of root canals are toxic (and why your friend doesn't have any "problems" with it that he is aware of). Watch and see what a dead organ left in your body does for your systemic health.
Do you work for the ADA? Jesus, man. They have a near 100% infection rate. You can't leave in a dead organ that was never disinfected and expect nothing to go wrong.
Thank you Sir! Procedural system is being improved on everyday from individual complaints or feed back! Even extraction as you have said has its own problems or complications. We must have the courage to face the challenges of life and overcome it.
"properly sealed" is the problem. You can't expect every dentist, or any professional in any field to always try their hardest, to always do their best job or even for every person in that field to meet the bare minimum standards. You have to operate with the assumption that someone might screw up.
I had a lateral luxation on my top front tooth from a fall, root canal, my Invisalign retainer kept it in place while it healed. My dentist did not cap it, is that normal? Will the tooth last? I was told it didnt need a cap since its not a back tooth..
Just need a permanent filling on front tooth. A really well sealed filling. Dealing with it now on porcelain cosmetic work I had done 10 yrs ago. You could opt to have a crown put on if they think you would be better off but typically anything front canine tooth toward the front does not need a crown. I don't use my front teeth to chew anything anyway due to the cosmetic work I had on the front teeth
Had one today, it wasn't bad at all. Felt nothing during and still no pain after 8 hours. I had 2 antibiotics prescriptions but wound up needed the root canal.
I felt pain and jumped three times! The anesthesia didn't kick in. So I was in pain and then I felt a dull pain and then my whole face was swollen. I have to go back Tuesday. I have no faith in the dentist I'm going to. But I have to go back to the dentist that started the procedure. I was so upset. Due to my coverage and circumstances. I called and called and it took days before anybody returned my call I am extremely nervous and disappointed I had to go through this. God be with me.
The more I read through these comments makes me realize there’s big money in the long term come back customer, lots of fear mongering about extraction but I’m at the point where I’d rather just be one and done and not worry about the dead tooth getting infected again from residual bacterial growth left behind after the first time. At this point I can’t save this molar anymore but I can still save the rest. It sucks it got to this point but I think my body can feel that this tooth is just done. I’ve tolerated this thing for so long it’s way past too and now my body is literally crying begging me to pull it out. Not much left of the tooth anyway.
I got a root canal today with a specialist. He also did an extraction on 2 of my other wisdom teeth. I was very nervous but luckily I felt no pain during extractions and the root canal. I only felt a pinch in my gums from the needles which was a 2 out of 10 pain level. Once my mouth was numb I was good. I only felt pressure of the pulling or the vibration of the drill during the root canal. I also had to get stitches for how deep he cut my gums for the extractions. The procedure took 2 hours to complete which was pretty quick for the amount work I was getting done. When the numbness wore off hours later I felt minor soreness . I was prescribed ibuprofen but honestly I haven’t taken any yet because I barely feel any pain. I have to go back in 2 weeks to put on my crown. I’m so relieved to have a such a good dentist. I have a low tolerance for pain and I was able to get all that work done without panicking. Maybe I’m lucky. 😅This is my first experience with root canal and my second experience with teeth extraction.
So I am told I need my first root canal. I have so many questions. 1. why can't they just use antibiotics to clear up the infection and NOT have to hollow out my tooth? 2. when they take the pulp out, how does the tooth get nourished without the pulp, blood flow, etc that they remove? 3. My tooth has been sensitive to pressure for over a year now - from the moment my dentist filled a small cavity that was below the gum line on the front surface of #19. In all that time, this sensitivity has not gotten worse but it has not gotten better. I hesitate to get my tooth hollowed out (and thus weakened?) when this sensitivity has not gotten any worse over time. Maybe I don't really need a root canal? 4. I have been on Alendronate (for osteoporosis) for 3+ years now. Should I go off this medicine between getting a root canal? 5. I have been rinsing with warm salt water 3-4 times a day since my dentist told me I may need this root canal. I read that warm salt water can help clear up a tooth infection. Might this help me to avoid needing that root canal? I am seeing the endodontist tomorrow for an evaluation. I will ask him all these questions. But any "second opinion" I can have from you might help me decide if I should go ahead with this or not - or at least comfort me if I do have to get this done. Thank youI have been rinsing with warm salt water 3-4 times a day since my dentist told me I may need this root canal. I read that warm salt water can help clear up a tooth infection. Might this help me to avoid needing that root canal?
Once you have an infection basically the nerves and blood vessels are already dead or dying. You have to remove them or else they will just rot in there and be a continuing source of re-infection. Antibiotics can't fix this on their own, you have to remove the source.
@@vikas8049 I had the tooth extracted 4 weeks ago. I did chicken out of of my first endodontist consult but by end of May I was having constant ache and pus would come up from the gum line. That scared me into going for the consult. Endodontist did exam and CT scan. Found a hole in the root (bone resorption). Said root canal would likely fail. Advised extraction. Saw oral surgeon for that but had to wait to be off OP meds for two months before extraction.
Root canals hurt like hell. The dentist jammed the needle in my gums and I literally got up out of my chair and left. I went to another dentist that did a great job numbing me up slowly. He wiggled my cheek and slowly was injected me with a numbing agent.
I was always told root canals just completely kill the tooth and remove the nerves so you dont feel future infections. But doesnt that cause more problems in the future since your leaving a dead tooth in your mouth and can no longer feel how bad its getting?
I’m convinced that it’s depending on who you go to to get the root canals done. Had to go to an endodontist for my front teeth (injury from the age of 7) and found to have an infection going on 25 years that I didn’t know. While he was amazing with everything regards to making sure I was informed, comfortable gave me breaks when needed. But the healing process once the numbing went away was painful. Yesterday I went to get my temp crowns at my general dentist and he asked if I had an appointment for another root canal on a different tooth (due to cold sensitivity) and I said not yet. He did it on the spot after doing my crowns and I’ve yet to feel pain from it. It’s sore only when pressed on my cheek, but other than that, I am golden! I love my dentist so much because they treat me like family and never judged me for my poor hygiene due my my mental health.
@@earlysda they have cured me of my fear of dentists! surprisingly, I found them at random because they were close to where I used to live. Over the new years of 2017 into 2018, an abscess formed in my lower right molar and I was miserable, crying, hadn’t slept in days. The day after new years of 2018, I called them and told them what was going on and Bobby (the owner and receptionist who is a frikin queen and doll!) asked me why I didn’t call sooner. I told her “cause it was new years and I didn’t want to bother you guys’s holidays”. She told me “oh honey, screw the holidays when it means your life is on the line!” That’s when I 1. Found out the an abscess could’ve killed me, and 2. They were the right people. She had me come in that same day. When my dentist found that the infection was too much and probably had to go to an orthodontist to get it removed, they pulled the strings to have me brought in that same day because he was booked till the next month. They literally go above and beyond. I eventually moved after my divorce that same year and live over an hour away from them now, but when a second abscess appeared several years later, I begged my partner to take me to my original dentist. So he drove me the hour and change to them and they remembered me after so many years! They made me feel so welcomed and at home again. They also asked what the orthodontist did (if he put me to sleep) and I said no, I was awake and he used normal numbing stuff, so he decided to do it for me. Again, like with the root canal I mentioned before, he did the extraction on the other tooth and again, NO PAIN! It’s like wtf is going on?! He’s got the magic touch! I’ve recommended him to anyone who listens to me because I swear, Dr. Nazzaro is a godsend and does things painlessly and gently.
@@marshalkrieg2664 went well, there was at times I could feel it SLIGHTLY but not bad enough to need more anesthetic, and of course you CAN ask for more anesthetic if you’re not comfortable enough and your dr will probably tell you that before they even begin. They told me the tooth will continue to stay sore for most likely a few more days and told me to take ibuprofen/Tylenol for the pain, no controlled substances. They will also probably tell you to avoid eating on that side of your mouth until you’re able to get your crown put on. Overall it wasn’t any worse then getting a filling done.

Wow same here!! I can't sleep unless i pop a 500mg Tylenol 😢 Had this root canal done over 30yrs ago and for the past 2wks im in pain just about all day! .. Rear Molar and i think it's just got to go 😮
I got a root canal last October, and two months later started to get pain in the tooth. During the procedure an instrument broke off in the root, I was told it was better to leave it there because removing it would cause too much damage to the tooth. So, the root canal had failed, and the endodontist did not want to do surgery because there was no infection, just pain. So, I am now scheduled to have the tooth extracted and get an implant. Just too much to deal with! I will now be into the tooth to the tune of $5000. Not happy about any of it!
I think I'm headed in that direction too. One of my molars went south on me and I've been in pain since before Christmas. Going to get my teeth cleaned and checked out on the 8th. I've had a root canal before and it wasn't that bad, it was a lot easier than the 2 deep fillings I had. But I feel you, I'm still really scared too bc I have a hard time getting numb. Good luck, please keep me updated on how your procedure goes.

There is a real issue in the US with Medicaid and Medicare not covering these procedures. In Georgia all that Medicaid covers for adults is extraction (even for teeth that don't really need pulling). A few years ago we had the option to add full dental to Medicare but some legislators called it "too expensive". Well then what's the alternative? A part of my molar broke off last night and I am very worried what I will do on a fixed income to get it repaired.
"That is bad. That is really bad."- Him, anytime cost is mentioned. Like it's the patient's fault that the cost of dental work (or the healthcare system's pricing in general) isn't obviously set up so that people suffer due to the inability to pay for these services. Damned if you do, damned if you dont. And you get the quality you can based on insurance. Absolutely f*cking ridiculous.
I would recommend always going to a specialist endodontists for root canal treatments (RTCs) especially for rear teeth. Specialist endodontist do RCTs everyday so are more practiced and they often have more specialised equipment, so there's a better chance of successfully cleaning out the root which is critical for RCTs. General dentists have less practice at doing RCTs and if it fails you can end up having to go to a specialist endodontist to get in redone so it ends up costing more.
already had 2 I need 3 more lets gooo... not really my mouth hurts like hell right now and its all my fault for not taking care of my teeth don't be me guys.
I just got a root canal near my left molar about 2 days ago and it was painless. I had a great specialist that did mine. They numb me good and l didn’t feel a thing and to be honest, the injection they use to numb me didn’t really hurt either. I only felt like a pinch and burning sensation, that’s it. After that, l didn’t feel a thing when they was operating on my tooth. The only reason I’m saddened because l see research saying that the tooth dies once they do it and I really feel bad about that. But then l see research saying that the teeth still functions like a normal teeth. So l hope it still functions just like the other teeth l have. I just gotta make an appointment to put a crown on it so the teeth can be better protected.
Just got back from the dentist, somehow they managed to fit me in to check on the bump. Ive had a bump on my lower incisor gum for about a year, no pain right now. I had an xray and there was dark under the tooth, it is infected (dentist said after a trauma of some description). I am so scared of any procedure, never had a filling, will antibiotics zap it? How long will the root canal last? Will it destroy the tooth?
I had a root canal on my front top two teeth which had chipped due to a fall. I have composite resin filling in them now. My dentist said that there is not enough space to fit in crowns as adjacent teeth are slightly overlapping. I am worried about the teeth becoming brittle and susceptible to cracking. What do you suggest?
Question. I've no pain, or sensitivity in my first molar. A new pop up dentist I visited mentioned I would need a root canal because the x-ray images showed I had gray spot (cavity) close to the nerve. She mentioned there was no swelling and she even tested it, by freezing a white substance and placing it on the molar. I was fine. I didn't feel it. She mentioned my gums were healthy. The tooth is fine for now, but as a precaution she wants to take care of it because it was worrying her. Would I need a root canal truly? I'm doing research to make sure I don't go through anything unnecessary. Afterwards, she suggested a porcelain cap for the tooth after the procedure. P.s. The tooth is intact, no cracks, changes in color, fistula, etc. Thank you in advance if you're able to respond.
The same for me i dont feel any pain or sensitivity but after an xray they said i need a root canal cause theres a dark spot and i do have some kind of dark stain on my tooth, i have an appointment today

Need your advise- my niece is 3 years old and Doctor is suggesting for root canal treatment. Is it safe? And how can they manage to do RTC on babies if they don't cooperate while doing the treatment
Say no. I have major dental phobia from so many fillings I had in my baby teeth. (Our dentist didn't numb kids teeth properly) No need to put a child through that when it will come out anyway x
I had root canal on a molar only two days ago. It didn't hurt that much and, in fairness, as the dentist was clearing out the tooth I could smell the rotten pulp-it wasn't pleasant. I was in two minds as to having it pulled, but decided to hold on to the tooth. It's still a bit sore, particularly when I bite down on something. I hope it settles down.
I've had 4 root canals, and everyone of them have broken off leaving the roots intact. I currently have an appointment tomorrow Aug. 9, 2023. I let the dentist talk me into a root canal. I store I wouldn't have another one done. And just have the tooth pulled. Well here we go again. Hopefully this one won't break off like the others have within 6 months to 2 years. I have 3 old gold crowns. I should sell the gold for scrap.
I have a big hole on my back tooth and when the doctors tries to do anormal filling it is so painful, they just put a protective layer for now, will I have to do a root canal?
Thank you so much for this info, and you are so enthusiastic. Personally I really dislike root canals but I probably had dentists that weren't very good at it. It seems to me this procedure takes the greatest skill of a dentist. I never minded the procedure but then I really suffered with pain and jaw pain.
Great question. Pain lasted around 3 years. (the jaw pain that is. The tooth pain was so bad in the beginning that the dentist had to do it over again twice.) Then I bit into a sandwich and half the tooth came out with it! I will never have a root canal again. Not worth the trouble. Thanks for asking.
Hey Dr - i have a cavity on my front tooth, the top layer is off, so its like the 2nd layer is visible, it runs from about the middle of the tooth, to just about the gumline. it doesnt pain, its not discolored, its not sensitive at all - i went to the dentist and the 1st one claimed i need a root canal. I want to get a 2nd opinion. Why cant they just repair it without the root canal? Would i get toothache after they repair it and then its too late? what if its just an infection?
I had a dentist say I needed a root canal 20 years ago, and I told him I wanted to think about it. I went to another dentist a week later, and said he could do the crown without a root canal and it worked fine. That was 20 years ago, and I still have the same old crown with no problems. I think it is a financial thing myself
Can you find out if a pulp cap was done or a vital pulp therapy treatment and do you have the X-ray of the tooth you can post?
Every case is different, lost a filling, tooth broke in half, as of 14:30 this afternoon I am in pain.
Youbwwre just lucky u found the second guy and that yo u actually did not need root canal

I hate when dentist say “We need to save the tooth” but tooth dead once root canal is preformed so it just sounds so manipulative to me now.
they are..the shell.
think of it like your head/skull. and the brain is the root canal.
they remove the insides (root) and no more pain cause thats the thing that send signals to the brain of pain. and the shell (tooth inside the gum) remains in there (much better than a implant/metal screw) and the top of the tooth is circled, where the crown sits..and this is superior to a total removal an a implant placed, cause your body can still communicate with the shell still inside the gum.
i have both..the one where i had rootcanal/crown its like nothing ever happened..its wonderful ten years later. my implant where everything was removed an a foreign metal post to hold the other version of a crown, i still get slight pain cause my body think sometimes its a bad thing in my jaw..even with bone/plasma preservation didnt help all the way . i still get issues..and for 2 years now its an off feeling from 2/10 pain...unlike my normal root canal/implant version (saved tooth) where its great, cause my shell is still there connected to everything

@@Ethan-ox4ck yea the root canal is removal of what makes the tooth alive. why you feel (pain) if they remove it, and replace it with an inert substance, there isnt any pain anymore cause tech its dead. just the tooth is left where it still can perform its mechanical functions (chewing) and i hope your getting a crown, so it protects the top where the holes went to reach the root .
after the procedure youll feel better, just some pain where the needle went in to numb you, probaly only thing you feel for a day..then in maybe a week, two max, if your getting root/crown same day..itll feel normal again like nothing happened...and then like me 10 years later still going strong like it has always been there..trust me you want this over a implant...implant is when nothing else can be done, and you still want a tooth to eat with, but itll always be a wierd feeling 2/10 atleast how its been for me for 1 1/2 years
Next time tell your desntist to extract it. Then think about word saving.....
it's the best option we have. You can get an implant which is pretty good but nothing will match the contour of your natural tooth rising out of your gums.
I love this guy he just made me so comfortable enough to get this done
Sure, as long as he's the one doing it....and even then..he's a smooth talker for sure, but how good of a surgeon is he really? '🤣
Go to a specialist for a root canal, not a general dentist. They can usually do the procedure in one appointment and it pretty much all they do.
The last specialist I went to for a root canal required 4 appointments, he told me on the first day, it will not cost any more, or any less no matter how many times he needs to go in and make absolutely sure there is no bacteria left behind. I value the quality of outcome over the speed of the proceedure. That was five years ago, and all is well.

I'm having a root canal in 3 weeks and I was afraid of loosing my front tooth after...but after watching this I feel better about the idea...
Thank you..
Same I'm scared too but starting to feel better.
DO NOT DO IT!
Did it hurt?
How are you today? I mean I'm going to have it today.
Now I have an infected root canal 🦷 15 years later it’s so painful and they refuse to extract saying it needs to be retreated at this point I will be getting it extracted some place else.
My husband went through the same thing. We found a different dentist.
I’m getting my 2nd root canal in 8 day and I was so freaking nervous. This vid made me a lot more confident and less anxious.
How did it go?
How is it doing? I have the same tooth i might have to get done. Pretty nervous.
That's because the root had already died! I'm similarly as tough... 'had a root canal after much resistance... three cleaning sessions (poo)... root canal installed no anesthetic... all to fail and be removed three weeks laterz!
Did they not use dental files for checking pain?
that hurts so much

@@NikkiMillerInspirations there was some pain days later but that is to be expected. When they do a root canal they are killing the nerve and cleaning out the tooth with medicine.
😢 that's sad.. ppl who struggle w chronic depression often times stop taking care of their teeth which then leads to things like this.
Said I must have a bone growth powder fill in for the empty jaw socket which is an additional few hundred.....what???
my dad had the same exact thing happen years ago
That is so so weird. So like out teeth can do root canals, but can't heal cavities? How does it make sense?

Another reason you might get a root canal. Because your dentist tried to give you a crown you didn't need and rolled over and caused peripheral damage to your inferior alveolar nerve during anasthesia, and then your dentist refuses MRI or other soft tissue imaging, saying that it must be inflamed nerve in the tooth. Giving you a root canal you didn't even need because they would not admit they messed up with anasthesia... but hey, at least I get a case out of it.

I have a failed root canal and it’s in the worst amount of pain. Can’t wait to get this extracted.
Its one year now. Did you extract or root canal. I'm currently having an immense pain due to infections in my lower jaw last tooth
@ktandeka I ended up getting the tooth extracted. The structural integrity of the tooth was too comprised, so a root canal likely wouldn't have been successful . I'll be getting an implant within the next year.

I am desperate for some real dental advice!!! :( To anyone that can spare their time and expertise:
I had a Root Canal 4 months ago on a “hot tooth” molar #30 that was so sensitive, I couldn’t even be numb the whole way.

(Please don't say "depends on the bacteria" - as they aren't cultured in real life). I've just briefly read there may be some bacterial resistance to it, but only dentists know IRL!

I'm terrified for mine on Tuesday.
Update please?
I have alot teeth with root canal for over thirty years and definitely never got any problems yet. But I’m planning implants soon.
man you are so enthusiastic, it makes the video so interesting. keep up.
Thanks, will do!
Are u fine now? My dentist advised me to have root canal. But I m having very less pain only while drinking water.
@@vikas8049
I had the tooth extracted 4 weeks ago.
@@vikas8049you may be having less pain now because nerve is now dead. Does not mean you do not have infection.
how about how much it costs...
Root canals hurt like hell. The dentist jammed the needle in my gums and I literally got up out of my chair and left. I went to another dentist that did a great job numbing me up slowly. He wiggled my cheek and slowly was injected me with a numbing agent.
So not the root canal just the dentist
Sounds like you got a great dentist!
I wish I could find a dentist like yours. Most put money before dentistry.
Doctor please! What would be best, an implant or try to save a tooth with an endodontict procedure ?
Been in pain for about 2 months almost. Getting my first root canal tomorrow morning, second one to follow.
Well, how did it go , are you OK ? My root canal is in three weeks.

You should sue the dentist that left the instrument in your tooth and make him pay for your implant! That is totally unacceptable. Good luck.
I have two root canals and i have to get it done on the 19th i’m so scared, i really hope it doesn’t hurt

Filling has come out three times, root canal or extraction?
pls advice
2000$ for a root canal?! I got it for like 100$ in another country.

Very good information! Thank you so much 💖💖💖
I had a root canal on my front top two teeth which had chipped due to a fall.
I'm in something similar dentist said I need a root canal but feel no pain
Just had a root canal. Hate it. I never felt any pain. Supposedly the xray showed there was decaying inside
