I think a simple video like this for color grading could be really nice.
I agree, I'll add it to my list!
@@drtimv great, thanks!
This is hands down the best video tutorial on Da Vinci I have watched. Thank you!
Thanks 🙏
Awesome Timothy! You're the best! 👍 Thanks..
My RUclips algorithm suggested this episode to watch, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed it, as I self taught myself the same steps as you, apart form the teeny-tiny fine tuning bit of the Compressor and Gain. I will definitely be using those little tips.
Cheers
Ugh finally!! Thank you so much. I’ve been struggling with audio ever since I switched to DaVinci a year ago. Premiere had some easy little presets so I barely had to think about it. This is exactly what I’ve been searching for! 🎉
Awesome, I’m so glad this helped you out! Please let me know if there’s anything else about DaVinci that I could help demystify.
It's so pleasing. The setuping and mastering softs amazing.
Glad you like it!
This video was very on point, will definitely use these tips on my next videos!
Thanks!
Wow!🔥🔥
thank you for this comprehensible explanation!!
Finally a straight forward quick and pro way of fixing audio! thanks for this!
Thanks
Simple, easy, useful. great video
Amazing video! I can't wait for watching more of your content about DaVinci Resolve.
Thank you! What would you like to learn about next?
Don't change bro love the tutorial .
Thank you for your video!
Thank you very much, I truly appreciate it, keep up the good work
Great video! I would suggest making a more in-depth video on how to edit the audio of an entire short film, covering things like how to integrate music and dialogue, how loud each should be, and how to blend in sound effects.
Good job! People just need to make sure to keep music audio as a stereo track :)
GOD this is a video that I need. Simple but very helpful
Thank you! This was extremely helpful!
Some good tips, thanks. Plus I just became your 100th subscriber!
You rock! Thanks for the support!
Thanks this is what I always wanted.
i love it so much ,,,,, you make my knowledge boom🤯🤯
Thank you!
Awesome...thank's
barely on step 2 and nh nah nah this is too good!!
Subscription earned...
This video is a life saver
GREAT! THANK YOU A LOT!
Glad it helped!
Bro, thank you so much.
Thank you so much Sensei! You are a blessing!
You are most welcome
Mate audio is my nemesis, I have a voice like a walrus chewing a hedgehog which doesn't help, anyway this seems pretty quick and easy cheers. Do yo do this to each clip individually or can you highlight all the clips to make the adjustments. Liked and subbed, really appreciate it.
Thank you for the awesome content. I compressed my wav file already in audacity but when I went to find the compression button you mentioned in da Vinci 18 I don’t have the + sign next to the effects section. Please help, thank you!
Great video!
Question: can you please recommend the best external plug-ins for DaVinci Resolve 18 for the best possible film dialogue? For some reason, I often end up with audio that is "close" but not quite there... maybe a little "metallic" or a little "boomy," or whatever. But rarely truly great.
Any help is appreciated!
I use Waves vocal plugins for my work. Best of luck!
Thanks man x
Thanks for sharing your valuable experience.
So nice of you
Really great stuff, ty. Having trouble understanding bus and getting my voice over track functioning
Awesome, hope this helps!
thank you straight to the point
Thanks for the feedback.
I have subscribed good sir. Great info and tutorial. Please can you do a detailed tutorial on 5.1 output mix
Respect to your good work, thanks a lot
Much appreciated!
Can't we just change the audio 1 to mono instead of clip by clip basis? I always do it like that :/
Great video btw! learned a lot of things :D
That works, too! Thanks
hey mate. the first video about sound quality where the quality of the speaker acctually sound great. i always fiddle around with my sound settings but i never seem to get it right, or maybe i am doing it right, idk. This was helpfull but i would love to see a more in-depth video about both sound quality for microphones and desktop sound. you got a sub in me, keep going :)
Should I have to buy the full version for ipad or is it possible in the free version ? And please let me know that what are the differences between free version and paid version for ipad ! 🙏
Very good and useful video. especially about normalisation and compression - I was watching many videos about it but your looks the most useful. Will try to adopt this "mountains" approach for my next videos :) thx!
Thanks for the feedback, let me know how it goes!
I am working on a short film with multiple audio clips. I noticed you can't use Clip Attributes when selecting more than one audio clip, do you know how to do this for multiple audio clips at the same time? @@drtimv
Thank you very much. I am new to sound editing. This was great thank you
Glad it was helpful!
is there a way in DaVinci, even the paid version, for the waveforms to update after applying a compressor. It just makes it easier to see the adjustments made.
thanks Timothy, awesome tips!
Happy to help!
Nicely done. Thank you
Thank you!
Wow, realy professional man! Congrats! Subscription urned!
Hi, can you share your dialogue settings for this video. you sound great in this.
Looks very useful, it would have been ideal if we had the before and after sounds
hey man thanks for the info. I have a question:
How does this method you describe compare to using the Compressor in the Dynamics Window?
Very little difference beyond the UI for the plugin itself. If you understand the controls, you can achieve identical results. Happy mixing!
Great explanation of compression
Thank you!
Is there a reason why you use the vocal channel plug in instead of the compressor in the 'Dynamics' section? I'm asking only because I often use that one to take advantage of the automatic audio ducking. Is there a difference between the two? I know that the Dynamics section doesn't have a High Pass. But, I suppose I can use the Vocal Channel plug in for that.
For simplicity and speed of workflow. The multiband compressor has a lot of power, but the single band included with vocal channel offers a speedier workflow and achieves the results I'm looking for. No harm in using the multiband though!
Tank you so much!
No prob!
How to make the voice warmer like you hear from the radio and editing it according to the voice quality of individual? I have a professional mic and recorder, but don’t know how to edit it.
thank you so much bro its so good
Thank you bro!
This video is a life saver! It helped me a lot in my video editing. Thank you so much for sharing :))
That's amazing, thank you for the feedback. If there are topics that you're stuck on, please let me know so I can make a new tutorial. Best wishes!
Sure, I'll make some request in the future. I just subscribed to your awesome channel too👌 I wish you the best as well😊
very well explained. Thanks. :))
Woo, thanks!
Good and simple tutorial! But, isn't that compression ratio way too high?
For RUclips? It’s aggressive but very effective for mobile speaker playback. For music or broadcast media? Too aggressive.
@@drtimv facts! My mindset was film dialogue- for RUclips, for sure that makes sense.
So when I do this should I do this only on my iphone? Or should I do this on my camera. I have an FZ72. Wondering if I should do it on that also?
For the iPhone, do it for all footage. For the FZ72, you can skip the first step but still normalize, compress, and high pass.
Great learning
Thank you! Cheers!
awesome video
some eq would've been nice
thanks:)
No problem
Thank ...
Welcome
Best instructional ever.
Some guys get off on "looksthowfastIcanmovethmouse" so armatures like me can't keep up.

Hello,
Could you please help me.
Each time a record a screen (video) with my voice (audio) and I try to edit them with DaVinci Resolve 18,5 Beta, the sound cuts off at around 1,05 minute... I tried with manny footages, I'm facing with the same issue.
It works well with iMovie.
If you have any idea, please tell me.
Thank you.
Now that Voice Isolation is a feature, would you still follow the same process, or would you modify it?
Good question, but unfortunately I haven’t tried that new feature. YMMV
Thanks.
You're welcome
i cant find the plus button in the mixer please help
Nice tutorial,
Thanks bro
I have a client right now who is upset for a litteral second of quite in his video between transitions or anything he wants me to do J cuts for everthing but it is just him talking head so it looks akward, wich he gets upset about any advice?
In a scene in my short film one of three actor's mic wasn't on and we tried using her dialogue recorded in the mic of another closest actor but the sound quality is obviously compromised, can there be a way to fix it? I am so much troubled because of it, will be really obliged if you help me out with this one.
The only way to fix is to record ADR on top of it or to reshoot.
I had no idea tNice tutorials blew up until now holy sNice tutorialt
Thanks
what happens if theres alot of noise in the audio and the high pass isnt helping at all? thanks
Anyone else check to see if Timothy replied to everyone
He’s pretty good at keeping up with replies
Is the Emedded Channel trick neccesary If I'm using mono tracks?
Nah, you can skip it if it’s already mono unless you’re only hearing out of one channel.
@@drtimv Ahh ok, thanks!
Oh how frustrating. Under my A1 I have: Input, Track FX, Order and Audio 1. I don't have Effects, Dynamics, EQ etc. As I was writing this comment, I discovered that the list under A1 is scrollable, and hides under the Audio 1 label. My computer is set up for old man eyes -- magnification 125%. I turned off the screen magnification, and found the effects option I need.
Hope this helps someone.
How you start setuping can you do a video on that
Sure, will do!
Hi there,
Is there a way to replay a audio section from a video and make it sound like the original voice. I just want to replace a single word of the dialog but pretend that the voice is coming from the original audio?
Yes, this is possible. Let's say I have background noise on the word "today". I'd find a point in the audio where I say "today" and there's no background noise, or I'd record a new version, then I would place that onto a new track and align it so it happens at the same time as the noisy version. Then when you've got the timing right, drag and drop it onto your first track to replace the noisy word. I hope that helps.
@@drtimv That I can do. What I am trying to achieve though is to mimic the voice tonality. As the voice on the video is not mine. I wonder if they are some sound effects that could make you sound more like the original audio clip!
@@_kaverna you can adjust your pitch and your formant using a plugin like Melodyne and that can get you pretty close. You could also construct a word from the original by slicing out the consonant and vowel combinations you need and then stringing them together with cross fades in between.
@@drtimv Thanks for the tip, I really appreciate it mate. I will try it xD
@@_kaverna good luck, happy to help
Ah nyce video 👍🏼..
Next on "working with nodes" in fusion.. ✌
Sweet, I’ll add it to my list!
@@drtimv Thanks 😊
You can't vicariously experience sotNice tutorialng through another person, the sa way you need to try it for yourself before losing hope.
Makes sense!
It’s safe to say, you do this part prior to adding music for b-roll?!?
Yes, otherwise you can add your b-roll music but know you'll need to mute it while you make adjustments.
thanks a lot, fairlight is the page that I understand less, I hope you get a lot of views
I'm so powerful, I don't need batteries to play
Brilliant
So, after doing all of that - you end up with a mono... wouldn't the last step be to change it back to stereo?
No, for the dialogue track, you never wanted stereo to begin with. The project is still in stereo though, so if you add music or any stereo effects they’ll come through as intended.
@@PunchBro Cool. Thanks!
What about sibilance, reverb, et al
Not typically needed for spoken word in field recordings. A better use case for those tools would be editing vocals like a pro.
Can make a video about 8D music effect?
Sure, great idea!
@@drtimv
Thank you and good luck
TNice tutorials video is a great introduction to soft soft for beginners. I would Nice tutorialghly recomnd tNice tutorials tutorial to anyone starting out with soft soft.
Noted!
Is this method also good for music or only for dialogues?
For music you’d want a more subtle approach as this would squeeze out the dynamic contrast too much.
@@drtimv Can you make a tutorial video of subtle approach for music editing? Thanks
@@zoomoutzoomin1000 sure, do you mean background music or mixing music in a DAW?
@@PunchBro I photographed performances of singers on stage. I recorded the sound directly from the console amplification system. With Tascam. And I edit in DAVINCI RESOLVE
@@zoomoutzoomin1000 ok, and are you getting a stereo signal out of the board or something else?
Bit meta... but that was a god level video hook and promise. Definietly stealing that introduction for my educational vids. Good tutorial too, thanks! 😊
To say right
Right
I managed to make a simpel rythm in 3 hours… I tNice tutorialnk I will try more so I can get more EXP points ;D
Level up!
Clean and concise, thank you. One suggestion, reduce the lengthy cutaway clips (guitar pedals) and stay on your project. The knowledge is valuable and entertaining,
the distraction is not.
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll try curbing my B-Roll use in the next one and see how it goes.
mono makes it to hear on only one side of the headphone which is VERY annoying!
Follow the instructions and the mono will duplicate to both ears and sound crisp and clean.
just woke up in hospital.
Rest is best
I can't save he want to buy soft soft
It’s free software
You help?
What do you need?
This guy is way off the mark for dramatic dialogue audio editing. Maybe this is good for promo videos, but if you do this to your dramatic story, you'll remove all the nuances of your actor's performance.
100% agree - if you use this for dramatic content intended for film or TV release the compression ratio is overkill. However, the intended audience for this is fellow RUclipsrs. If you're not a RUclipsr, this tutorial still holds up, just back off on the compression ratio to fit your taste, mood, and style.
Dialogue editing wizard because you gave us a couple of tips? Yikes! I hope your audience knows that you are kidding…? After a couple years in logic pro, then you might consider yourself a wizard.
I hope they know I'm kidding, too! In any case, full refunds will be issued to all viewers who do not possess magical abilities by the end of the video.
