Moving Out! Time to Live Out of a Suitcase

- We're moving out of our place that we've been at in the bay area for almost 3 years! We'll be living out of our suitcases for a while. We're planning to spend some time in New Zealand and then come back in the summer but who know what will happen. :)

Tēnā koutou katoa .....Awesome your coming to New Zealand ,you should collab with The Lateral Line, Milan is the go to man for fishing, our Kina (Uni) and Paua ( Abalone) and Green Lipped Mussels are delicious, dont worry about the food situation the big cities have it all and the small towns and coastal towns have great bakeries and fish n chip shops, and try our pies, like the smoke fish pies, Abalone creamed pies and the meat pies and dont forget the Espresso coffee, and the fishing, New Zealand have some of the best salt water fishing and fresh water trout fishing in the world, ok enough bragging cant wait to see your new Adventures 🤙🤙
You guys will love New Zealand (Aotearoa). It's summer right now and the weather is super weird due to some cyclonic weather patterns but by the time you guys get here it should have all blown over. There's so much to see and do here that you guys will have a blast whether its fishing, hunting, gathering or just straight up exploring. Don't worry there's a tonne of Korean BBQ here, Vietnamese food is a bit more rare but not impossible to find. The food is bomb, but maybe less variety than some places. Stay away from any Mexican spots here though... no one knows wtf they're doing lol.

New Zealand may not have as much variety as the Bay Area but it sure is beautiful, great fresh food and great fishing/ outdoors - you’ll love it. I wish I could retire there

You'll love New Zealand. It's a food plethora here.
Apart from the usual fare (McDonald's, KFC, Taco Bell etc), there are plenty of restaurants you'll find here with a good variety. If you get a chance, try the Hangi.
Plenty of fishing for snapper, kingfish and kahawai, as well as other fishing opportunities.

I live in New Zealand!!!…yes if you go to the big cities like Auckland and Wellington there’s plenty of diverse restaurants..you hit the small towns and the main popular take out aka “takeaways” is Fish and Chips!!!…so good! ..Do you have itinerary yet? I’d love to meet you guys!!!

Good luck you guys! Moving is such a huge amount of work! I’ve moved more times than I can count in my life. I’ve been in the same place now for 10 years and I can’t believe how much stuff I have! Mostly tools, fishing gear, art supplies and tech!
I hope you have a blast in N Zed! My wife grew up there and we talk about spending time there. When I was younger I lived in OZ for 2 years and I was able to scoot over to NZ for 5 days. Give away stuff, get a trash dumpster delivered to the house. Then ask neighbors if they have cardboard boxes from a previous move. Don’t pay for any expensive storage for stuff that isn’t worth that rent. Used furniture has little retail value in some areas.

Congrats on a new chapter. I'm closing on my third home right now and have 20 years worth of "stuff" accumulated between my last two properties. It's so daunting that it's actually giving me anxiety. What do you keep, what do you discard? Just earlier today I found a box with my original SEGA Genesis and about 30 games, including the first Mortal Kombat and NBA Live games. What do I with it, bring it with me or give it away? That's just one box out of hundreds, if not thousands of decisions I have to make. So I definitely feel Taku's pain. Just the labor alone is a monumental task.
retro game collection is a huge hobby now. someone out there would LOVE that. just try to find somebody who actually collects and don't just give it away to goodwill or something. they'll charge someone $5 and then that person will put it on ebay for $100.

you should try a bike tour of the wineries on the east cost of the south island and then do some skiing in the central part of the island then go to the west cost and check out the nice forest, be aware of the time you go because of the southerly Cold wind.....Antarctica .

Hi, when you mentioned you were heading to New Zealand I was so stoked. My partner and I are born and bred here.We're in the North Island in a place called Birkdale, Northshore, Auckland City. You will adore this place, so beautiful and full of adventure and the outdoor lifestyle. New Zealander's are very easy going. You were concerned of whether we had many diverse restaurants to cater to your needs?I think so....We have many Asian and Indian food markets and a lot of local towns also have weekly farmer's markets. Research makes all the difference.

Can I ask where abouts you were planning to head in New Zealand? Both North and South Island's? If you love nature as I know you both do, can I suggest the Milford Sound in the South Island? Picton, topof the Sourh, Queenstown also in the South.

In larger New Zealand cities, there’s a great variety of ethic foods. The fastest grow group of immigrants are from Asia so there’s many good Chinese and Japanese restaurants. You guys will have a great time over there.

Sounds like it’s time for a garage sale buddy! Good luck in whatever you do. Was wondering if you ever figured out the whole boneless fillet of trout with the skin on for smoked fish? Also I tried a new recipe for me, creamy poblano crab enchiladas. The crab gravy is what put it over the top. I saved the juice that drained out of my crab and used it as the liquid for the gravy.

One other thing I should mention, is that New Zealand doesn't have a tipping culture. Most cafes and restaurants may have a tip jar at the cash register, but we don't tip in NZ. It's a small thing. Just wanted y'all to know 😊

New Zealand seafood is unequalled. Right at the doorstep, cold water and sustainable managed. A little bit basis too lol.

street food is good on the south island. Are you going to the south island? there was or is a great Thai food place. food is mostly British so Bland hope you like Beet root.
When we were moving out I spent a year getting rid of stuffs .

wait whaaaat you guys are coming to NZ!? I’m from a Christchurch! Where abouts and how long are you staying for?! I can’t wait to see what you guys get up to- hopefully we bump into eachother (the city is small so it could happen lol! ) The South Island has so many amazing tramping spots - highly recommend, and every where is a short drive away. All the main cities have a lot of different food choices - I personally think Korean bbq is best in Auckland and runner up is Christchurch. If you head to Christchurch, I highly recommend visiting Kinji- beautiful hidden gem Japanese restaurant. Earl, Hali or Inati are also some spots I enjoy. We love fish in chips here (very oily and make sure to get tomato sauce and a chocolate explosion donut lol). Hopefully the weather will be great while you are here. It’s a very different lifestyle here- quiet(not a lot of people!), chill and cruisy! Enjoy guys!
