Love this! I did a vid on this based on Lefty's original definition of a cast: "a slow, gradual acceleration to a sudden stop". So, how slow can you go? When I was learning guitar my teacher gave me an exercise: press the strings lighter and lighter until you don't make the note sound. Then, press slightly harder than that. That's all you need to make music; else is extra. Fly casting is the same-you can unroll a loop extremely slowing, even into the wind, because the bottom of the loop is providing tension for the top. Again, as Lefty said, "We don't throw a flyline, we unroll it." That bottom tension is often ruined with overpowering the casting arm, pushing slack into the cast.
@@davin-ebanks-glass yes, I think it’s important to know where “first gear” is, in order to make sense of the gearbox! I cast with Lefty many years ago at the Denver show. I always enjoyed our occasional emails back and forward.
Really like the slow cast exercise, will give it a try. Also, here in Virginia in U.S. we are known as top snakehead destination in US. They were first found here in 2004. I never had interest in them due to our abundent smallmouth but it looks fun so will give it a try.
Great - it’s been a useful exercise. Quite an eyeopener to see how little effort is actually required. I’ve never fished for the Snakehead species that are invasive over there. They are a bit ugly. 😆 More than me even 😂 From what I’ve heard you don’t need wire, but possibly braid. They must have similar behaviours to Giant Snakehead. We don’t have many shallows here and it’s all sight fishing when they breathe. Here they are held in high regard, but they aren’t invasive of course. It’s been a fascinating fish and I think they have some intelligence too.
Because they’ll have swum away by then 😆 I rarely ever cast with minimum power. It’s just an exercise for me. Instead I use more speed and brake the shoot.
Particularly, although certainly not exclusively, when first learning to cast. Next week I’ll have something much more technical which I think you’ll enjoy 😎

Awesome Paul
It's a fish. Enjoy your videos.
Paul, I am Chew, how are you? You remember you gave me a lift in Grik.
@@waichoonchew2229 yes! How are you Chew? 😆😎
Why don't you use your minimum power drill to fish that toman as you just demonstrated?

@SexyloopsTV, so do I. When do you think we should really use that technique, by the way?"
