    Angels may be genetic experimental mutants in the 'verse of Unicorn Overlord, but for our purposes they constitute a very interesting talking point. I love them, and I think you should love them too.

    You can give feathershields a shield that gives you med/heavy cover and only use sacrifice on your final PP to give you more PP to cover; essentially giving you infinite cover.

      To tack on for people who may scoff at this, the shield he's talking of is literally inside Albion. So while Angel units do come late, you have all the tools to shore up any potential kit weaknesses.

    Loved the healer angel with my "3 Sellsword" group, because endgame they really needed a teensy bit more heals to keep them going through really huge death enemies. They are very fun to work with, and you're right, I wish we had a little more time to work with them, because I'm sure we would have found a lot more crazy stuff to do with them if we weren't knocking on the final boss's door by the time we get them. By then 99% of players have already got their favorite murder brigades down and are tired of messing with units.

    The first time I ran into one of those squads with the Radiant Archers making up the entire back row, I immediately ran to the nearest town to make sure I had an entire squad with anti-blind prepped to deal with their trickery. Talk about a single unit that, as soon as it shows up in the enemy team, changes everything about how you play.

    I think what makes it feel worse getting angels so late, is that Albion is so much shorter than every other nation. There’s only 5 recruitable story characters, none of which are unique. Worse, there’s only 2 main quests and 2 side quests. It makes the fact that you hardly use angels so much worse

    A good combo I had was a double shield: Legionnaire + Feathershield. Legionnare covers everyone from physical, including the Feathershield at low HP, while Feathershield covers everyone from magic with Sacrifice, including the Legionnaire (at any HP)

    The angels I wish I was able to get them earlier because by the time I got to them I had basically all my squads setup the way I wanted them and trying to squeeze them in felt difficult. I just started a 2nd run and am going to try to plan out squads that will make good use of them this time. The units I had with them were good mostly but trying to squeeze them in felt difficult so late in the game especially since I wasn't spending honor on mercs much so something like featherstaff only got in on the last mission of the game at which point my squads were set and the tank only came in with a handful of missions to go. It didn't leave a lot of time to really experiment with them.

    Angels can be utterly broken if you use the wingline standard correctly with them. Both featherswords and featherbows will get a pretty huge damage spike from using that (make sure you set the buff to target whoever you want to do damage). Then there's the general's longbow, which also buffs flying allies and stacks with the wingline standard (you need to change the default conditions on it though; I don't believe it'll trigger unless you do).
    My favorite angel comp is 2 featherswords, 3 featherbows. With the items I mentioned, they win almost every battle, even against some units that can be dangerous to flying units.

    • @aureliodeprimus8018
      @aureliodeprimus8018 3 месяца назад

      Yeah for some reason the default condition for "Turtle formation" is "enemy fliers present".....maybe the condition was "fliers present" in earlier builds and this is an oversight?

    • @ultimaterecoil1136
      @ultimaterecoil1136 3 месяца назад

      The general’s longbow buffs everyone it just gives crit to fliers specifically in addition to the damage buff. Unfortunately you only get 1 dancer’s blade if I recall correctly so how good having multiple feather swords is at that point is debatable. Obviously you’d want one for crit chaining but it’s probably worth having some armor breaker capacity be it a magic unit or a breaker.

    • @ValeVin

      Oh yeah, that was my team, exactly, and it wrecked a lot of groups, including some that it should have been hard countered by (ie, archers, then stole their watch towers). Aerial pursuit is strong. Plus I had one running that anti-blind item AoE buff item so they could take down enemy featherbow teams, too. (Set to "Angels present.")

  • @TheRobversion1
    @TheRobversion1 3 месяца назад +1

    Yeah angels are all good classes since all fly and thus all can be frontline evasion tanks aside from their usual roles. They typically make the best tanks in the game as featherswords and shields can both evade AND guard tanks which means they can handle everything the game throws at them.
    The way to overcome the lack of feathershields lack of personal guard is just to give them a shield that does. My fave is unyielding shield which gives them a free revive when they're sacrificing. Supplement my mirroring them to defensive 2x. Power belts + any guard shield works too.
    featherbow imo is the most annoying enemy in the game and why i have so much love for elven archers which counters them without relying on switching gear for blindness immunity.
    featherbow + wereowl is one of my fave frontline evade tank combos as they just keep blinding with the wereowl being a PP battery for the featherbow and party healer for any chip dmg. This allows me to allocate the backline for support and 2 nukers.

    I just got the Featherbow last night and I've got to toy around more with the Angles as a whole, at the moment I do prefer both Beastrals and Elves more because they fit my playstyle better. In terms of builds I'm experimenting with Lex (your recommended stats) using Provoke, Featherbow triggers Saint's shot and Tailwind with a Namless Guard's Bow as I can have Eagle Eye on hand, while Feathersword is decreasing the enemies defenses and Auch is charging Blizzard and having a +AP 2 item so it can trigger twice and given one of his PP skills gives another AP to to use Fireball. My last unit is Sharon to deal out healing just in case.

    Featherbows, are just sdfkjcksbfbsk obviously it's amazing when YOU use them, but facing more than one of them is just dreadful. I remember being as impressed as I was frustrated by a watchtower of only 3 Featherbows (and 3 people squads in end game is rare) that would manage to survive an encounter with my 5 manned unit that'd usually obliterate most things... but you guessed it, blind parade all day every day.

  • @mikoutv1707
    @mikoutv1707 2 месяца назад

    I found angels a somewhat mixed bag.
    Featherswords are as evasive as a Gryphons, Wyverns or Swordmaster, less evasive than a Rogue, and don't bring either the damage output or utility of any of those classes. Their offense is very much "If winning, win more" which is rarely useful.
    Featherbows are incredible for spreading blindness but get hard-countered and rendered useless against anything that deals well with blindness with their offense being mediocre at best.
    Featherstaves have some interesting synergies with Berserkers and provide decent support, but are outclassed by Bishops or Radiant Knights when it comes to keeping a team alive. I've also found that their Row Overheal is the only active skill I want them to use as "Do a little more next turn" comes too late and the death prevention is unnecessary if they just overheal the unit up instead.
    Feathershields however are straight up busted and will fit on any squad, keeping anything alive vs most opposition with some healing support.

    I feel Non-Humans get screwed by having few units. We get almost around or less than 5 classes and often less than 10 units.
    I also agree that you don't have time to use Angels that much. I wish the game made the player choose which nation want to visit it sooner. You can meet Virginia in dragon dessert land or find the Ring of the Maiden in the elf land but that is it. But Beast and Angels need to you have beat Dragon Dessert land to go to Beast Land and Elf land to go to Angel Land. To not mention that Cronia has side to explore once Scarlett is rescued.

    I still like Bestrals the most, because i like animals more than humans. The winged ones are ok and if Ochlys showed me one thing it is that the late-game availability is absolutely warranted. Featherbows and Swords work well in tandem and having a reliable mage tank in Feathershields is a nice option for hunting down mage towers. The only unit i find weird to work with is Featherstaff. Their skills are a little bit strange, like they want to do all this set-up for a questionable pay-off that is a little bit unnecessary if the rest of your squad is already well-prepared for what is coming. Their simplest skill is propably the start of combat heal, cause it undoes damage from ranged/magic assists or can heal "between fights".

      Next time they make a UO-like title, they’ll include a wider animal variety of Beast-like sapients - lizards, non-owl birds, apes/monkeys, tigers… Or we’ll, they’d better if they don’t want hell to pay.
      At least do a Chinese Zodiac theme if you’re going to canonically limit them; I was devastated to learn that the ones we see (be it civilian or warrior) are the only ones to actually exist in Fevrith.

      By which I mean, just skip Drakenhold until you’ve cleared every other country; lets you use more of the non-humans sooner and then add whoever you like from there. Or Elheim; whichever works better for your TZ run. ;-)
      As for Ochlys, it’s evident that she’s an early taste which *mostly* makes up for their absence most of the game; it’s a choice that makes in-character sense as well for her, and so on. Maybe the surely-never-gonna-happen sequel uses them more, or makes them available sooner. ^.^
      They really should save the “other” human-ruled country for last next time; goodness knows we get enough of them as is in Cornia and elsewhere! ;-D

    Feathershield is my favorite unit, and it's not even close. He just bounces around the battlefield blocking goddamned everything and then (in my setup) giving away passive points to allies. It's so satisfying.
    I dont really get this argument people are making about defensive units not being "meta" It's not an online game, there is no "meta." If I can beat the game on True Zenoiran with all mercenary units and have a feathershield squad be one of my best squads, then it is "meta" as there is nothing else to compete against other than the game itself and the feathershield trivializes SO MANY fights

    So here's my maybe somewhat controversial take on angels based on traditional Fire Emblem styled ranking: they're D tier units.
    The reason I say that is primarily because of how late in the game you get them...by the time I was able to pick up feathershields and featherstaves I had what...5 or 6 missions left in the game before the final battle? In Fire Emblem a character's availability is a big part of what makes them a good unit or not and feather units just come too late. By the time they show up I've already built very effective squads that do everything an angel unit can do through a combination of tactics, composition, and items. I don't have any interest in spending an hour in the menu redesigning already perfected squads to fit in units that won't really change their capability.
    Plus, personal grievance here, I hate Blind; not as a mechanic but in its absolutely terrible implementation in this game. It's obviously coded poorly as my clerics never casted refresh on any blinded units, the blind accessory's ability would never trigger either so they were only useful for making the unit that equipped them immune to the status effect. It's astounding to me that even after playing around with the tactics and even trying to set items to trigger only the "Blind" Condition they still didn't work when my units got blinded! I lost so much DPS and maps were harder purely because I literally couldn't get any of my units to realize Blind was an Affliction or even a Debuff. Maybe they patched this out later but that made me instantly hate featherbows.

      You said it yourself; angels don't have offensive power. They are more like gimmicky support units that can shut down certain enemies, but are not really needed in the meta of this game, since you could just kill your enemies before they do anything anyway. Elves are perhaps a bit more versatile and definitely have a lot more firepower (esp. Eltalinde and Rosalinde).

      I don't think comparing unique classes to recruitables is the way to go about it. They probably couldn't fit more content and had to cut uniques from Albion. Seeing how busted recrutiables are, Albion uniques would've made the rest look like unpromoted units.

      Killing your enemies before they do anything, and negating everything your enemies do and then killing, is exactly as strong as the other.
