We were dire in the first half. Worst we've been for ages. 2nd half we were excellent,- amazing turnaround. Perfect substitutions at the perfect times.
Barkley MOTM for me. He came on against Everton to sit in front of their low block and pick them off with killer passes, he came on here to drive and link play from defence to attack. Versatile and incredibly talented player, another one Emery has got spot on.
Completely agree re. Onana first half. We would have been completely overrun without all of his tidying up. It speaks volumes of how tactically aware and confident in what he is doing Emery is that he can look at his big -money signing in that game and decide that he’s the one that needs to come off. Barkley has been so dependable so far, I’m always impressed by any player who can reinvent themselves to become a more effective player. The only note of caution I would sound at the moment is that we have beaten five bang average teams so far, the only serious challenge we have faced we lost (even though we played really well, arguably better than in the matches we won!). Stiffer challenges await!
Agree with all of that, George. You’re right about the teams we’ve played - if we concede to the better sides we could struggle to fight back. Great to be winning but have to be mindful we haven’t gone up against our biggest rivals. Love Onana & Barkley so far! UTV!
