Today we ride from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang in Northern Laos. Now of course this journey is much easier via train, but taking the rural high roads.... well you will not believe just how amazing the experience can be!

Hi Paddy.
We love all of your videos and what you are doing. You could consider carrying a roll of gaffer tape with you. It is great for roadside repairs. Just a small roll as I know you have limited space.. I used to cut short lengths and stick them on the bike. It protects the bike and can be used when needed. We hope to visit Thailand again soon

Just done this trip and back in a mini van with family, a magnificent experience, wow.
As I get older, I always tell the younger people at work, don't buy things, but buy experiences. Laos is breathtaking and one of those experiences. Loving this chapter. 🇨🇦✈🇹🇭
So true, glad i had the chance to visit luang prabang, laos before the lockdown in 2020. One of my favorite country in asia. I fell in love enormously with this beautiful place the moment i set foot.

We remember this route from when we hitchhiked from Thailand to Spain. We travelled from Vientiane to Vang Veing, to Luang Prabang and then onwards to the border with China. Beautiful scenery all the way but the most difficult part of the hitchhiking journey because of the lack of cars. We have wonderful memories of the school kids on their bicycles. We walked a lot in Laos as we struggled to get picked up so lots of kids stopped to interact with us. Thanks for reminding us.❤

This is exactly how I felt after my trip to Lao ( L P mostly). I said it was life changing! When I was asked what was life changing, I could not put it in the words! Its how Lao makes you feel. People, nature, life style.. all the above!
P.S. saw it on Anthony Bourdain’s and knew I had to go see it myself!

I've not been to Laos yet, but we had a family we were friends with in the states whom escaped a bad situation from their mountain village back in the 70s. Salt of the earth and wonderful friends.

the positive with experience in solo travelling is to be able to think on a whim. Ingenious decisions can help a shite situation a little better, at least for the short time!

What you were trying to put into words at the end... I totally get it, without any eloquent words. For some of us, a drive with beautiful and interesting things to see (eye candy) keeps us energized and in a way wanting more. I felt this most recently when I drove to Arizona and back. The views were amazing - and in the sunrises and sunsets, the way the light hit the mountains... 😍
That area of Laos is definitely a feast for the eyes.
I do have to say something about the roads... Although they are rough and they make you take your eyes off of the landscape, you have to go slower. Be more aware. And I think that was a benefit in a way for this particular day of driving. Seeing the people and how they went about their lives.... Priceless.

You should buy leatherman/gerber or swissblade multitool which has all sort of tools. They are small pocket size tools and easy to keep along!

If you think the Kasi bypass is like the Mae Hong Son loop of Laos you should try the road from Oudomxay to Phongsali further up north….😉

I hate to say it but I rarely remember to like a video, unless reminded to at the end. As the video dipped to black, my immediate thought was to like this. It seems insignificant but I think the story and editing was so good it suggested it to me without you needing to do it directly. Incredible work, Paddy.

Such a beautiful ride. You really captured it. The train is a wonderful development for the country, but taking it as a traveler would be a cardinal sin. I have ridden those areas twice and it cleanse's your soul.

Awesome videos always. Don't you hate when the medium can't capture the magic of what you experienced? I had a day like that in Mon Jam outside Chiang Mai. People ask what was so special about it, but the words don't do it justice. I could imagine feeling that way as you posting this, knowing that the camera simply can't capture the magic of being in that travel flow.
It's the part of not punching the clock to make $ for a living. Seeing beautiful places on vacation makes it all worth it.

Next time...
Right now most of people they travel by train, it's easy and faster. For example if you ride a train from Vientiane to vang vieng take about 1hour and to Luang phrabang take about 2hour.
