How North Dakota State Became So DOMINANT

- North Dakota State has been the definition of dominance since 2011. Multiple wins over FBS teams, 9 national championships, 13 appearances in the semifinals in 14 years, a 9-1 record in the title game, a 47-5 record in the playoffs, and 181 straight weeks and counting of being ranked in the top 25 of the FCS polls. Fans of the school and outside the school have yearned for them to make the jump to the FBS level after 20 years since their move from Division II to the FCS yet the call from a Group of 5 conferences has not come yet. The Bizon will look to add another FBS team to their ranks of wins when they travel to Boulder this week to take on Colorado and will look to go for a 10th FCS National Title this year. This is how North Dakota State became so dominant.

NDSU being my hometown college team makes me happy to watch football as the NFL’s Vikings always let me down as the closest team to us.
NDSU (The Alabama of the FCS Division). I can respect their decision to stay in the FCS. It's what made them a powerhouse.
As a lifelong Bison fan I don’t think it’s likely that we move up anytime in the near future. Us moving up isn’t really popular in Fargo either cause we would much rather have fun and win than be hoping for a .500 season competing with schools with much larger budgets.
Wrong. The current layout of the FBS and FCS is unsustainable for the future. Nobody knows how this is all going to end up, but there is going to a major reclassification of all the FBS & FCS teams, especially with the new NIL rules starting in 2025. Many people are saying the NCAA will split all D1 teams into a 3 classifcation (FBS, FCS, and FDS or D1, D1-AA, D1-AAA) format which will force some current FBS down and some FCS teams to move up. Both of the Montanas and Dakotas (NDSU - SDSU) schools are backed into a corner and can see the writing on the wall. All these teams will have to change and do some kind of move, the only question is how soon.
I was in the stadium when the Griz played against the bison one of the greatest games I’ve ever seen in my life
Covering the roller coaster history of Marshall football could make for a really good video
You should cover Eastern Illinois next!
I believe the only way the Dakota schools ever move up is together as a conference with the Montana schools, with or without the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota). Granted, St. Thomas, the Pioneer Football Conference's newest member, would have to become dominant and start granting football scholarships for this to have any chance of happening.
the montana schools might have a chance of moving up if the mountain west gets raided by the Pac2
That would be logical BUT money talks and if given a lucritive enough offer I think you'd see these schools move to the PAC(1)2, MW or Big12 in a heartbeat.
Would the Fargodome need to be upgraded at all, or is it fine if NDSU decided to move up to the FBS level?
Edit: Never Mind I didn't watch the video all the way through their facilities are fine. So in this case, the MAC Conference could be an option for the Bison as most of their schools are located in the Midwest like they are.
This school is been a powerhouse for years in the FCS I hope some big time conference come calling for them.
Slight error NDSU 2022 loss was to the University of Arizona not Arizona State.
Before the NCC disintegrated, my alma mater, Augustana, was also in that conference with NDSU. It’s still in Division II, & now it's part of the Northern Sun Conference, which includes powerhouse Minnesota-Duluth.
You should make a video on Ohio next

Aye if youre not already working on it, how about a video on Colorado?
I think now that they got past NDSU it will be interesting to see the potential rise of the CU program under Deion in his second year.
Its wild because the team has a high perfentage of tranfers and some interesting recruits.
I think if they fan at least go 6-6 for the season and kake a Bowl Game thats a massive improvement but they could do even better.
You know the Bison have been enjoying a lot of success over the last decade and a half when last season's 11-4 record and playing the runner up tough in the semi-finals was considered a down year and many people thinking the Bison might start a bad stretch.
NDSU, SDSU, and Montana should go FBS together and all join the American conference as a northern division. Throw in some closer competition and let it ride until they’re ready for another jump to a better conference
Kick Nebraska, Minnesota and Northwestern out of the Big 10 (these programs are barely FCS level....) and put in NDSU, SDSU and Montana instead. That would make the most sense geographically and make the Big 10 a lot more competive, exciting and respectable.
North Dakota State has become a powerhouse for the FCS for a reason. One of those reasons have to do with their strong recruiting and development, support fan base, leadership, dedication, effective coaching, being very dominant, consistent success, the community and strategic scheduling. They have been a dominating force for a long time now.🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈
A team that has not won any FBS level games since 2016 and gave up over 500 total yards (445 passing) to a 4 win clown show in Colorado is "DOMINANT"?!?!?
@@smithn.wesson495no, I was talking about the program that has dominated over the years, not the Colorado game
I'd love to see them in the Big 12. That actually could end up being pretty awesome.
NDSU should go to FBS...follow by Montana state, Montana, and SDSU. Giving room for next FCS powerhouses to shine.
Unless they have a B1G or SEC invite on the table, this isn't really the time for anyone to be moving from FCS to FBS. Hell, there's probably close to half of the current FBS teams that might look at moving down depending on what revenue sharing does to their AD budgets over the next decade
How about no. I don’t want the FCS to die off, they’ve already lost old powers like Georgia Southern, App State and James Madison no need to water it down further.
We NEED NDSU in the FBS immediately
NDSU screwed themselves by not being more aggressive to move up to FBS years ago because they were too conservative, were too happy being the big fish in small pond and were too scared of change. The current layout of the FBS and FCS is unsustainable for the future. Nobody knows how this is all going to end up, but there is going to a major reclassification of all the FBS & FCS teams, especially with the new NIL rules starting in 2025. If the NDSU was to join any FBS conference it should be the MAC. It’s the easiest conference for traveling since they are the closest. After watching the Colorado/NDSU game…. They could definitely do well in the MAC. Question is… would they be okay with only going to low tier bowl games and not championship games?
The MAC should also look at SDSU and Northern Iowa Football teams… both would make the conference interesting.
YAY NEW ETG VID
False. NDAU has publicly said that they turned down G5 invites. They want power 4. If not, then they will stay in the FCS until the FBS playoffs expand to 16 or 24 teams
Good job covering our little bro up north! Go Jacks!
Brother did you really call NDSU y’all little bro?
How many total championships (D2 and D1 FCS) does NDSU have compared to SDSU or little SDU?
Psshh 😂
@@kFlame-yg2et yes.. little bro hasn't beaten SDSU since 2019. 1773 days if you were wondering
Can you do a video on Western Carolina?
Can you do a video about Murray states football team?
Montana. Montana State, NDSU , and SDSU Bunnies should join the Mountain West
The Mountain West has lost 4 straight games to FCS schools from the Missouri Valley and Big Sky conferences. They probably don't want these schools.....
NDSU 2010s 137-13 (91.3%)
Ndsu future pac 12 team
ND should to the mwc and still remember when they beat Iowa
my favorite fcs team is North Dakota St's rival North dakota. And i think North Dakota St shoud be in the mountain west
North Dakota State and South Dakota State should join the MAC, C-USA, or the AAC; if both teams ever decide to move to the FBS level.
I’m from North Dakota 😂 didn’t know they were this dominant
Big 12 is our best bet. We already are having sports like wrestling becoming a Big 12 program. They're slowly moving into this, and its been planned all along.
How about going to the new Pac 12? They would be an immediate contender in that conference.
The Mountain West needs teams. North Dakota State and South Dakota State should be the targets, at the very least as football only with Montana and Montana State
I don’t think location matters anymore you got teams from the west coast playing in the acc, and they’d fit right in the mountain west
I mean big 12, big 10, and mountain west make the most since geographically
What’s the rumor about Colorado wanting to back out of the game?
That’s false
@@GTRNemo figured. ik everyone hates colorado, but that is a crazy thing to make up
SDSU ndsu Montana and Montana state need to move or be behind they should move up as a package deal bc then you have 4 teams in the area
You hit the nail right on the head and all these schools know they are going to have to change or be left behind. The current layout of the FBS and FCS is unsustainable for the future. Nobody knows how this is all going to end up, but there is going to a major reclassification of all the FBS & FCS teams, especially with the new NIL rules starting in 2025.
