- App State has become one of the best teams at the Group of Five level and look to be the favorite to win the Sun Belt this upcoming season. Over the past two decades, the Mountaineers have built their program into a juggernaut when it comes to branding due to insane upsets, winning three FCS national Championships in three years, and have consistently made it to a bowl game since they transitioned to the FBS level. But this year they may have their best team and could not just win the Sun Belt conference but also make the 12-team college football playoff. This is the rise of App State football.

I’m a lifelong App St fan and alumnus. I Remember watching the Michigan game on tv and going to the natty against Delaware. As a kid, Armanti was a superhero and I thought he was gonna be the goat in the NFL. Love the way the funbelt is laid out with the conferences. Great vid and beautiful stadium.

I love going to school here, and you can’t go anywhere in NC without running into App fans/ alums, it’s a feverish fanbase that shows up to support every athletic team no matter where they’re playing. I could spend hours telling stories about my experiences around our athletics over the past several years.
Appreciate the love! I do feel that you overlooked the giants that App slayed in the 2010s , or the very near misses, such as @unc and usc2019, @tennessee, @penn state, etc. its great to be a mountaineer!
I was a student from '99-03, talk about a series of ups-and-downs. We were on the verge and Montana always seemed to keep our keys. I remember sitting in my car listening to the radio call for the semi game in Montana (it wasn't on TV). Absolute heartbreak. With the following season, I kinda thought our chance was over. Then I graduated and we won 3 national titles and beat Michigan.🤣 It's been a blessing to be alive to watch their rise. I'm hoping this year they pull out something again that everything thought was impossible. Good start Week 1, Go Apps! 🖤💛

The trio of games App and UNC had between ‘19 and ‘23 were INSANE. Sadly App lost the series 1-2 but every game was a nail biter!

The 2019 Neers were DIFFERENT! They beat Chapel Hill AND South Carolina in the same season, both were road games. We had a single loss that year, and I was at that year’s New Orleans bowl. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Shout out to App State from a Liberty University Alum! I've been following App St since that epic upset of UM that had a FCS school ranked in the FBS top 25! The program is legit and I love seeing these types of stories (just like Boise State!)
It's pretty cool to know a lot of App's opponents then are all in the same conference now.
JMU, GA Southern, Coastal, etc.
The Sun Belt is such a perfect conference. Like an SEC Jr. and all the hate we had for those teams in the SOCON, we still get to continue today

I live in Montana and the first time I ever heard of app state was the 2009 playoff game. That game up here in Montana is considered to be legendary.

Also, Coach Moore and Charlie Cobb, the then athletic director at the time of his departure, did not get along. Once Cobb left for GSU, Moore was back in the fold.

Can u do the rise and fall of BIG EAST football?? U had Cincy, Pitt, West Va, Louisville, even schools like UCONN had solid years in the conference. That’s be a informing vid. An entire forgotten conference.
