there's something soothing about watching a person work that's a master of their craft.
I lost count of how many times I’ve watched this video. Man is a true talent. You can tell by his technique and energy this man loves what he does, takes pride in his work, and gets the job done in a timely fashion. I went back to see what drill he was using because of one of the comments and found myself watching this video all over again.
This is one of the better taping videos on youtube that I keep coming back to. Straight and to the point. Not a lot of superfluous talking. Just watch a pro do his thing and try to absorb his technique. For someone like me, who does drywall a room at a time every couple years I'm really just looking for a refresher and this is it.
This is why I hire out the mud work, a pro like Chad can do more in 15 min than I can do in 4 hours AND he will do a better job.
Well done.
Cheers from Tokyo!
Cheers! And thanks for watching!
Hate to disagree but he needs to work on his technique those finished lines need some work
The Tokyo Craftsman now we vape inside fuck it
And plus there cheap
@@Cabron-gt2xp wont sand take care of that?
Just had a guy tape/mud a small job - amazing skill and dexterity. He was a philosopher about the job. "Every building . . . commercial & residential . . . has wall board. There's always plenty of work." He went on to say how he like to leave his jobs 'invisible.' He worked to keep the surfaces and joints the 'secrets' he left behind. I talked to my wife about how he turned the intention of a design: shapes, surfaces, angles into reality. That is what the 'trades' do - they deliver aesthetic reality where designers & engineers simply contemplate intention.
He also said that he like the low stress of the job. "Floor and cabinet guys have to stress about mistakes, they can't do it over." he said. But he gets to start over to make it right anytime he wants.
Brilliant video!
So true. The design made real; the mistake stress; the therapy and meditation of repetition in drywall stopping. I'm a designer (a degree and all - architecture first, then graphics) but have been involved with and doing construction since I was a kid. Dad was a philosophy propfessor ( I kid you not) and he was also involved with demolition (again I kid you not). Design and construction is what I do now and much prefer the "making it real" side of it. Nothing says truth like making something real. My favourite things are timber framing and mud/stopping/plastering. It's like playing as a kid. The stress part of construction/creating you mentioned cannot be underestimated. By far the most stressful thing is bench-top cutting. One slip, chip or mis-measure and bam! Start over. With plaster it's whack! Chip! Redo. Done. Smooooooth & crisp.
Cool story.

Wow, just realized exactly how much i suck at drywalling. Thanx man, this vid will save me time
Literally from the moment he dumped the joint compound into the bucket you could tell this guy was a pro
That’s true hey!!

kymion any body can do that I do the same work n do it dawg don’t mean he’s ah pro “
The drill was what let me know he was pro
That's what I said!!
Damn I fucking suck at drywalling.

Doesn’t matter how many times someone watches this video, drywall work takes a special kind of person. You need to be fast have good technique and work very hard but also have attention to detail that most people don’t see. Can appreciate someone with this level of skill to their craft can tell he’s been doing it for years.
I put drywall into the same category as plumbing. “You have to love doing it”
I already knew I was dealing with a professional by how nice and clean he kept his area. Great video.
Assuming he changes his clothes every day, I would say he's not a neat as you think. I would smoke this guy.

Watching a real pro finish drywall is better than anything on T.V.
I wanted to see some stilts. Maybe one day ill be able to balance on some. Maybe dance around on them.

I just love a drywall professionals and their detailed tutorials. I can watch them and their instructions all day. You guys are the true artists🎨 Kudos for the Eagles and Flyers gear too.
I always enjoy watching a true craftsman apply his trade .. Thanks for sharing
Lol this isnt a trade.🤣
@@walterboudreau7791 Yes it is, takes a good 5 years to even consider going on your own. For a few reason - A) knowing how to price a job. B) being fast enough to do the job in a certain time frame, hence 5 years experience and C) being good enough so your work doesn't look like shit. Because if it does, your ass will be coming back to fix it all.
I hate guys that make taping look easy. You're no joke. Nice work, bro.
+Tom Foolery Practice Practice Practice!! Just anything else in life!
+Joe Gutierrez But its always good to see others do it. "Never stop learning" attitude helps too!
Tom Foolery dude my old boss never used mud he got me using tape with adhesive on and it never stuck in big amounts so we had to use several small bits for one wall. This guy makes it look so easy
Tom Foolery it helps if you mix your mud properly as well. But yes awesome tape job bud 👍🏻

I just learned that I'm applying my mud while it's to thick. Thank you
Sometimes it’s the little tricks that help the most.
Pancake batter consistancy
Yes, im learning and want to keep practicing. I always thin my premade mud, but I still have it too thick. Thanks for the tip. I clicked on it after doing a remodel on our half bath in our old house so it was probably tricky for a rookie with uneven corners and such, but I think it's ok. I'm getting better so now I see my first project and want to redo it..embarrassed of how bad it looks. Haha. Took down old pieces cabinets and didnt float well. I can still see where the cabinets were. I think I may. Any tips?
@@melanierust7129 The beauty of finishing walls is that, in most cases, you can always improve upon an already-existing bad job without having to start over from scratch. There are different levels of finishes you can apply to the wall using mud with some sanding in between applications. Look up drywall level finishes here in youtube to get an idea of what I’m talking about. Good luck with your projects!
Thanks!
Lots of respect to the drywall tradesmen. I used to do some electrical work and always worked around these guys and thought their work was just something to marvel.
I've been a painter for a guess what since 1970 and I do maybe 3% of my work is mud spackle but after a couple of good lessons from a pro you be surprised you could be doing this stuff pretty quickly once you learn the little secrets that this guy is not really teaching you see I know how it's done now and and I want to tell you he's not teaching you the secrets he's not giving you the wrist action story he's not telling you about how to hold the knife when you're putting it on he's just doing it and let me tell you he's probably doesn't want any competition so he's not teaching every angle of it
I see a lot of Guys taping, but when I see one doing it right and with a lot of talent, I call it out. This guy has great talent! Great job and thanks for taking pride and honor in your trade, much respect. Me? High end General Contractor.
I agree. I've done high end remodeling for the last 6 years and other various contracting jobs 9 years before that. I was always ok at drywall but after working with a talented drywaller like him I can spread mud just as well.
I need.to get this guy to help with the hurricane recovery.
Yup, this is the kind of workmanship I want when I hire someone for a job.
just had to talk about yourself didnt you.
bryan nonya lmaaooo thats what i was gonna comment hahah
Best drywall finishing I’ve seen ..was a finisher for 15 years ..just the ay we did it 👍
What a pleasure it is to watch a pro at work. Not a wasted moment or movement. Thanks for sharing this.
Go watch again, a good finisher, would have applied the mud, and then the tape to the flat with a total of 5 movements. This guy had 9 just applying the mud. A real finisher, Would have pulled from the corner of the flat that hits the corner, pulling 4 to 6 ft on the first spread, Then Another load and spread finishing most likely the apply of mud, but I gave another movement just in case. Then go back to the start of the mud spread and apply the tape, This is one full non stop movement taking about 5 seconds. Then after cutting the tape. The wipe is starting at the corner again, pulling into the corner, tighting the tape and good seal in the corner, and then the final fifth movement, pulling the tape tight, wiping the mud down, leaving no edge like this guy, Tape is tight, unlike this guy, good pack on the seam, unlike this guy.. and is over in about 15 seconds, Not the 4 minutes like this guy. Also, you would not need to go get a scraper and clean the floor like you will after this guy is done. He dropped about half a knife worth of mud just wiping the flat. Also, As someone who has been taping for 20 yrs. This guy has to be single, As no wife would put up with their washing machine being destroyed every few months. This guy is bathing in the mud. A true finisher, would have a few specs on his clothes. He knows when the mud is gonna fall, and how to not stand under it. This guy is doing a wall, an he is this sloppy, I would hate to see him doing overhead work. To be honest, I would probably pay this guy 70 bucks to 100 a day, no more, and base that on a 8 hour day. He is a floorman. The stilt man, or second lead, is a 250 dollar a day man.. who is doing all the overhead and having to get down off his stilts and help this guy finish up hos 40 boards he ran all day, when the overhead guy in the same area just ran 100 to 140.. and finished a hour or two before him, and is now running 30 to 40 boards in 2 hours.. cause they are 3 times faster then this guy. Lead man is in the high cealing and doing the high dollar work, putting the corner bead on, straight flex, doing the 45 angles, Then jumpin on stilts, and showing the second lead why he is still the second lead cause he is just to fast to keep up with.. then they both get down and make the floor man look like the beginner bitch.. Rant over.. That is a REAL Finishing CREW!
@@Iven2320001 “Since brevity is the soul of wit / And tediousness the limbs and outward flourishes, I will be brief…” - Shakespeare, Hamlet Act II
you can tell this guy is an absolute professional. effortless
This guys good.. I did this for 20 years ... 20 years ago... I mostly used the machine boxes etc and applied with hawk and trowel with a 3 inch knife for internals. I still have my tools but my back is shot out so change of career was needed... Definitely a young mans game !!...
I'm a union carpenter and I will tell you drywalling is an art and drywallers are a different breed. When I was an apprentice the drywaller always told me to make sure those screws are not sticking out. They taught me how to do it myself and been doing it for 30 years.
I'm renovating my own house doing my own boarding and taping. From the very beginning of this video I started learning new stuff. The bucket dump (why didn't I think of that?!?!), the way he applies the mud and seats the tape and so much more. This guy is an absolute pro.
It's still comforting to see that even a pro like this drops a little mud on the floor occasionally. I've got enough mud on my floors to tape a small house. :)
Thanks for this!
You’re welcome!
You can tell the guy has skill the instant he starts putting the mud on. So smooth. Nice job.
So much fun to watch a great craftsman at work. I've tried this and it's a lot harder than it looks.
Me too. I actually chuckled out loud watching because he's so fast and smooth. I'll know to thin the mud some next time.
John Buffaloe if you love what you doing it wasn't that hard, I've tried this too and of course it's hard in the first time, but when you keep doing it, you will like it...
My thoughts exactly, RUclips vs when I do it are always very different.
Damn he's fast.
John Buffaloe it really is. But these guys are pros, they do this over and over for years so it’s like breathing for them.
I did this job for 7 years and I loved doing it. I actually worked the same way he does placing the mud the same way and covering the tape. It is such a beautiful thing to do, more than a job it's an art..
It does take skill
A true craftsman....and an Eagles fan to boot! Enjoyed it. Loved em back in the Ron Jaworski and Harold Carmichael days.
This is by far the best drywall mudding video to date. Great demonstration with explanation for the best and fastest mudding, what more could you want.
For crip sakes!! This guy just made all the work I did with my first layer look like shit. Took him like four minutes to do multiple first layers and me a week to do two small rooms!! Oh and I used a hell of a lot more mud and ended up sanding most of that mud away and having a nice light powdered interior to our house!! Wish I had seen this before hand. Very nice video and very nice job. Certainly learned my lesson for next time!!!!!!!
Ya no shit I did the same thing in my kitchen I was pulling out dust for weeks after haha
took his slow ass way tooooo long...never learn from these rookies
Sheet rockers are the true craftsman, truly an art to clean up Framer mistakes
I'm an old timer; this guy is good. This is how I was taught the trade. Way back they didn't have Ready Mix mud. It was a powder and had to be mixed perfect or you would have lumps. I use to use the old hawk and trowel. The webbing tape is better. Later 8"- 12" inch knives were incorporated to do the bedding. The only fall back about the webbing tape is you can't use it in your angles. Still, have to use paper. I use to wear stilts. I was young and fast I could hang 250 ft roll of tape in 30 minutes. I have used bazookas, bed boxes, angle tools, nail spotters. It is good to watch a professional do it the old fashion way.
I’ve been on enough job sites to know this is an art
i watch this guy's taping videos everytime i reno my house. great tips. These are the best videos on mudding and taping!
Wow...... I've been a trim carpenter for 28 years......... worked around many a sheetrocker, but lately I've been doing more general carpentry and have found myself doing small sheetrock work. Looks like I've not been adding nearly enough water to fresh mud, which has made the job a lot more difficult than it should have been.
Thanks so much for putting this up...... it will help a lot. I have no desire to do more sheetrock work, but if I do, I want to do as good a job as I can........
more water equals thinner mud. The result is way less sanding and a smoother glide. Of course too much water and you are just wasting your time and materials.
You can tell he's good by how effortless he makes it look
That's the way it's done folks!! Very impressive and I've been around the trades for more than 40 years.
Thanks !
hell yes this is much harder than he's making it seem...this guy is damn good.
Beautiful work, sir. Always enjoy watching someone who's a pro at his craft....
I work for a painting company and during the winter this video will serve me well. Very amazing glad i found this. Thanks
You’re welcome ! I have full series with Chad on how to mud and tape by hand. We even have videos on using more professional tools as well
Switching hands to wipe in that angle at the 13:37 mark was by far the most impressive part of this video. Great job and very fast for a hand taper 👍🏻
I switch hands all the time. This is an easy straight forward job.
Wish I watched this a few years ago, I like how you just do it and dont spend 3hrs explaining it.
and the camerman knew exactly what questions to ask when he got a little *too* into it, haha
How bout doing 3hr but bump it about 2p
its all good you brought a lot of 80s hits for us to listen to while working on those drywalls
Wow, one of these kind of videos where the guy actually does it right. Miracles never cease.
Awesome video! Thanks for taking the time to film, and share! Years ago I was mudding and taping my garage on a new house I bought. The builder was still in the neighborhood knocking out other houses. He stopped by and checked out my work. One thing he noticed was the "pocks" or little holes in the mud here and there after I applied it. He suggested before I mix the mud with water in the 5 gallon pail, add an "X" of dawn dish soap at the top of the mud. I did this in preceding batches and it helped alot. Thought it was worth sharing! Thanks again!
Great tip!! I still need to try this.
Oh my gosh! Those darn little holes! Haha Exactly what Ive been dealing with. Drives me insane! I figured I had my mud too thick too though. Thoughts?
I like to watch skilled people at work. Very interesting, thanks for posting
OneEyePI does this mean you actually know something about the craft.
I am a carpenter, who also has done lots of drywall, but I never would have reached your level of expertise. That is hard work, and someone like me is a pro at making it even harder. It is so easy to have a nightmare on your hands. Thanks for showing us how it is REALLY done!
I am a carpenter as well and know exactly what you mean! That’s why I have Chad is so many of my videos.
I feel like this man cracked a code and let everybody in on it.
I just got better at taping from watching this. Always cool to see a master do his work. I’m a framer by trade, but I do a lot of remodeling work. It’s so easy to take something away from videos like this. Thanks for sharing
Great comment!
Just started remodeling my bathroom. I will be watching this video over and over for when I get to my drywall and mudding.
Glad to hear!
This guy is amazing. Can only imagine the tricks he has up his sleeves.
Any type of work that involves sanding is pure torture for me. I have a huge respect for these guys.
If done properly there is minimal sanding . Guy asked me how I got so good I said I got tired of sanding .
@A H If I have to sand something theres usually beer involved. lol
He's making it look so much easier than it actually is. Most of us are trying to wipe the two sides and then re-wet the tape and trying to wipe again. This guy basically did what it would take me 5 min to do in 30 seconds.
He definitely makes it look easy.
Thank you for this video. It's always a joy to watch a pro work. At any craft
It's nice to see someone else doing drywall professionally. I'm a fellow drywaller been had it 30 years. God Work butts Flats angles bead.
Phenomenal work! Clean and precise! Being in construction I can appreciate talent!
30 year remodeler/builder here. This dude's a pro, no mistake about it, good job, I'd hire him in a heart beat.
I like this method, usually I cake the area with mud and then do some massive sanding but this is way better. Including your easy setup
William may triggered
William may cake and massive sanding...the only way to do it....youre done, bud
William may lol lol and lol, yes I used to apply a "slightly thick coat" of mud and I sanded until the area was even. I didn't dump half the bucket on one area of the wall.. your imagination is probably going somewhere far.. far from reality! Besides, any normal construction labourer would know exactly how much is too much, your sanding arm will let you know after just one wall of experience 😂
Nice to see a guy that knows what he's talking about, most the hacks on RUclips show the wrong way and end up making the job harder. Of course we also use bazookas and banjos which puts on the mud and tape at the same time.
He is way to good. Makes you feel like anybody can do taping because he does it so easily and in an artistic way. One of the best drywall taping instructions in youtube.
I appreciate the feedback
It's nice to see someone finally put up a video of doing mud work the proper way. I see so many and make me laugh! Nice job looks good to me.
Ain't nothing like watching a professional just a thing of beauty
Telugu
I watched multiple guys doing taping 2 years ago and then mudded 4 rooms. I have learned: the following:
1. I taped in a different order than Chad. His order makes more sense
2. I didn't overlap the tape like Chad did. I like his reasoning
3. My mud was way too thick.
4. On long flats, I didn't put a few feet and then tap in place and then a few more feet and tap - like Chad did. His method makes way more sense that what I did.
5. I'm way to finicky about the tape near the floor on the butts. I mess around trying to cut the tape perfectly for some stupid reason
6. The other guys videos who I watched were not nearly this fast or could handle thin mud like that.
Great video.
I’m good but this guy is great,, and it is relaxing to watch this guy mud and tape, your never too old to learn new tips
I enjoy watching pros sling mud, it is an Art.
Im here because im bored , I have so many, it is ridiculous and I need to stop messing with you tube altogether.
Congratulations both of you. But first the craftsman for his professionalism. Thank you for this show.
I appreciate your skill and talent, thanks for teaching others.
So seeing as this was 7 yrs ago, do you guys use stilts and banjos now, or, do you stick with old school. You seem really proficient in this video. How much has changes for drywalling in 7 years? I'm a painter, I don't do alot of tape and float, more repairs. But I appreciate good drywall guys, they make my part of the job easier when they are rockstar like these guys!👍
Chad is still pretty old school. No stilts but he does have applicators and boxes.
Pro's are cool to watch when they are THIS skilled. Awesome tips... I always make a mess on the floor just getting the mud on the wall.
I wish I watched this video before I started working on my diy projects 😭
Thanks for all the positive feedback. Make sure to check out my new videos for an even more in dept look at how to drywall.

Great video! No nonsense, no goofy music, gets straight to the point, not trying to sell us junk... Impressive skill demonstrated. Liked and subscribed.
I'm glad I watched this. I'm mudding/taping tomorrow in my basement, and would have done the corners 1st. I'm and electrician by trade so I can bend pipe and pull wire like this guy but Damn, he's good.
Not good, phenomenal. One of the best on the 'net, hands down.
So interesting to watch an expert make it look easy. This is NOT easy, I've tried it. Chad's a craftsman, and has obviously spent years getting good, and fast at this.
Dude.... it is an absolute pleasure to watch you work. I am a painter and from time to time have to do some drywall repair beyond filling small holes. Your videos are very educational. Thank you!
It's always a pleasure to watch a professional at work !!! Great job.
I hope that Chad works by the Job, and not by the hour. He is as good as I have seen.
Jim Agans he would die of hunger if he did it by job😂😂😂😂😂
I love watching someone who is skilled in what they do!! They will stand before KINGS!
“See a man diligent in his work and he will stand before Kings” I can’t remember who said this but you reminded me of it!!
As a old retired eyeball drywaller from way back, I like when a traditional style finisher makes it look this easy. These guys with pneumatic bazookas and boxes, go fast, but I still think the hand work is better.
Joel LaJuett it’s not.

Good clean work brother. Began as a Plasterer here. Certain disciplines, good and bad, from that training now mingle with my drywall work. Often I am in residential, often with wild board work , terrible corners and gaps and what not. With plaster i can "form" and build up quicker and cures faster and denser.
You do clean work with that tape. That's the hardest thing to master
I've used the self-adhesive mesh for so long I use it for both materials. I'm messy with the tape.
I would hire this guy in a heart beat you can tell he knows his stuff. I suck at this and hate doing it.
My OCD said, "This should be one of those satisfying videos". I felt calm and relaxed watching this :)
I'm getting into drywall finishing and you're my hero now
Great decision 👏 👏👏👏
Woman also can make a decent salary in construction
So finishers don't hang the drywall they just come in to mud and tape?
Yo if this dudes your hero im here to take his cape . look into hoppers and banjos ! This is like the 1980s way of taping . i dont know how people still do it like this and keep up production. It doesnt even do a better job his way 😒🤦
I've painted for 18 years, and i appreciate someone who takes pride in their craft.
I lied to my cousins about doing drywall and now one needs help restoring some walls, so thanks to this video I think I can live up to the lie

When he sees how you hold the pan and how much you get on floors and you your jig is up you can't lie about drywall hanging or finishing (mudding)

Fake it till ya make it
I'm a painter and sometimes I have to do a little of this.... you guys make it look so easy lol. I cannot for the life of me figure out how you guys get such straight runs of mud. I been doing this trade for around 17 years now... so nice to see someone who takes pride in his work... and knows what he's doing. Only thing I do differently is instead of applying mud sideways I use a full 5 inch knife and just cut the excess mudd off the corners of the knife... that way none falls and never worry about going back to fill the bevel. Awesome job.
Great work.
But when he said " and just like my butts i like to wipe upwards" i felt my clot start flowin
Wow. Now I feel totally inadequate. That was impressive.
I don't do drywall very often, maybe once a year or less, but when I get to mudding I always come back to this video to get my mind right.
Like your style Chad, keep on mudslinging, greets from the Netherlands :)
I have nightmares from the amount of mud that ends up on me when taping lol
I've tried this myself, I understand why guys like this make 6 figures a year. Amazing skill man.
Drywallers are making 6 figures in the USA????
Excellent! This man teaches by doing it. Great example. Professional.
Hi and Hello.
I gather people for a good cause:
I wanna provide people with Links leading to bad or toxic people.
Mobber, Racists, Sexists, Bullies, more. I got the Links and i
need help with reporting them.
RUclips is in a bad state and i think you heard of that.
Many complain about it, its strike-system and its CEO: Susan.
But... I mean... complaining about the State of the world is nice
and dandy, but... how about acting? Doing something?
So i made a Wiki where i store Links for all to use. Yeah, unorthodox, i
know, but whatever. Its my Try to help.
You can at least pre-emptive 'block user' regarding the
Racists and all those, but you can also
do one thing more and report them.
You surely know what a mess youtube is, so?
What do you think about all this? I mean, its a good cause,
improving the internet and the world, and it costs no money, just time.
Nice or not?
I'm sure this comment didnt made it all clear, but point is, i wanna
act and help others to act, not just complain. If somethings not clear,
ask Questions; that normally helps with confusion.
Iv just sat and watched someone work for 14 minutes when I'm just about to go work...what is my life
Same
Same
hey buddy , we're learning so we can do it too
Holy hell. I had to double check after seeing your comment. Didn't even seem like 14 minutes. Like watching a really good movie, it just flies by!
I watch people work hard so I don't have to.
He showing this for beginners to have a good clue whats going on with mud & tape... pros usually use a tool that we call the violin is a quick and efficient way to add mud & tape at the same time makes this job way easier, we usually do all the flats around the house first & then go around again doing (joints, angles) that way you have all the bottom done and move on to ceilings & walls‼️
The guy did a good job, at very good productivity level.
Thanks.
