You know damn well this is going to likely be elevated or submerged for the new Caltrain electrification and grade separations in a few years. You can't wait that long? REALLY? MOVE OUT. Caltrain used to use a horn called the K5LA which is used on almost all Amtraks today. That horn was intended to be less louder than its predecessors. But people of course complained so Caltrain swapped them out for the quieter and uglier sounding P2 horn which they use now. And for people to complain about the P2? Move out if you hate hearing trains. The trains were there before you, not you before them. 🤦🏽

Not siding with the old boomer that moved next to a train track and was shocked by all the noise, but Caltrain really should work towards grade separation for most of it's line. Last week I spent almost 10 minutes trying to cross the tracks in Mountain View because trains kept coming and resetting the traffic signals.

  • @ronbennett7885

Closing the crossing is the most viable solution. Alternatively, a grade separated crossing which would cost 10s of millions. Quiet zone will require significant upgrades with no guarantees the RR will abide by it. They may later seek an exception due to safety concerns. That has happened elsewhere.

Close the crossing or go for grade separation. I have a hard time believing the "community" would be harmed much by closing the crossing. Maybe his street is an exception, but homeowners typically don't even know the names of most of the other residents on their street. San Mateo is not a tiny little mountain village.
