    Beautiful and clear! The thick, contrasting thread was perfect to show us how to catch the loops of the previous stitches properly. I'm so happy to have a way to mend my stretchy clothes by hand! Thank you!

      @veronicahaits5233 3 месяца назад +1

      I agree that the contrasting thread helped. It would have been difficult to see how the stitches progressed otherwise. I just fixed my dogs t-shirt using this tutorial (his body is bald, so he needs protection from the sun/cold). It worked perfectly! 😊

  • @ma.rosariogalang8268

    The person is using a different thread color to be able to clearly demonstrate how the stitches are done. This is very helpful for visual learners. Yes, it would have been easier to use a sewing machine. However, this is for those without access to sewing machines.
    So, hand sewing should be basic. 😊

    This is video is very helpful since there are not many content creators that have covered it. This is a stitch that I want to incorporate into my own handsewing practice.

      I am also thinking does this work only for knitted wear?

    • @nilnilli
      @nilnilli Год назад +4

      The main purpose is to finish a raw edge to my understanding. Serger overlocking is just also incredibly good for stretchy fabric. It's good for knits and woven fabrics.
      I'm also curious how much you can stretch this hand stitch. It looke like it would have some give?

    • @sophiacromwell8017
      @sophiacromwell8017 11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, this kind of stitch has a lot of “give” (you can tell because of the structure & she also demonstrates the “strechiness” at the very end of the video). Enjoy!! :)

      Le fil d'une couleur différente est exprès pour la démonstration.
      Il n'empêche que le travail est très long et le résultat sur l'endroit laisse à désirer, les points ne sont pas réguliers. C'est assez inesthétique du côté visible et plus joli sur l'envers 😊

    I appreciate what you’re trying to show but the result is not good. The knit is thick enough that you could have caught just a few threads on the wrong side as you sewed. This would have hidden the stitch on the right side.

      Thread used was to be visible for video, I'm sure.

    • @connie6690
      @connie6690 11 месяцев назад +7

      @@karenh789You're probably right but it would have been nice to see how the stitch (actually an open chain stitch) looked in a thread colour to match the sweater. To see how visible or undetectable it was.

    • @lj6079
      @lj6079 11 месяцев назад +27

      whole point of this video imo is that you can sew a garment without a machine. Also ready made outfit will have the stitches on the right side so if part of the stitches come undone your method will look odd.

    • @helengarrett6378
      @helengarrett6378 11 месяцев назад +9

      If you look at garments that are overlock finished with the overlock inside, the exterior often looks like double needle stitching on the outside. Pant cuffs on stretchy fabric looks like this. Ofcourse the color of the thread matches, but not always as overlock can be on the exterior of the garment the way a lot of sports and casual clothes show it as decorative stitching on seams.
      I found this interesting because I have a nice sweater that "grew" long sleeves. I may cut the sleeves and catch the edges on the sleeves and ribbing with a running stitch to prevent unraveling when I rejoin the sleeve with the ribbing using the overloc onto the shortened sleeves. It won't be an invisible mend but the exterior double needle look should be o.k. if I am very careful about the even stitch length with yarn pulled from the cut portion.. The buttons on this cardigan sweater are topped with rhinestones so it would be inappropriate to show the overlock as a decorative stitch on the cuff only. In this way I may save a sweater in a color and style I like. The sleeves are so long I cannot roll them up without looking like I am wearing donuts on my wrists.

      Oh yes! Let’s spend $700 to fix a single garment. If you have nothing of substance to add, just keep it to yourself. This is very helpful for someone who wants to fix a garment at home who doesn’t have expensive equipment. I’d wager you don’t even know how to use a coverstitch. The setup takes forever and there is a steep learning curve. I have one and I would not pull it out to just fix one spot on a sleeve if there is a way to do it by hand.
