Love it. One plus of using spraycans is that they do really well with 3D prints. I've noticed they cover layer lines a bit better, and makes spot drybrushing look even better because of the variety and random patterns.
Hell yeah, good stuff! I've found that too with big terrain projects, if you just abandon pedantic perfectionism and work fast and loose you get a really cohesive and fun gaming set out of it.
Nice to see people encouraging terrain builds - and simple ones. It's not hard to get a pretty good looking table, but terrain is so often the ignored "third army". It is going to deliver 80% of your aesthetic appeal to your game...and sooooo many people skimp on it. You don't need to be doing intricate, difficult, scratch-built stuff. It's much easier to get a cohesive good looking table than many people think.
I introduced your channel to my boyfriend and he described you as 'the Bob Ross of warhammer' and honestly I've never agreed with him more. Just pure wholesome vibes, can't beat it! ❤️
Perhaps i was born to be a model train guy... i can not get enough of terrain building!! Also! I am so happy to see another video from you! I really appreciate the segments you have where you play around with what ever you are making/painting, it gives us a sense of scale, and multiple angles as you turn them. A useful and charming choice in your production style!
Hullo Brent, I am glad that you are sharing your joy with painting, transforming pieces into terrain is a job all on its own! I do enjoy watching your videos and seeing how much joy you bring to this hobby! Well job for you eh? Nicely done all around.
Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for your amazing work. I am in the wargaming hobby since the beginning of 2020 and since then I have followed your channel and watched every new video of yours. They inspired me to paint and helped me through a pretty tough time at the beginning of last year. I hope you keep up the amazing work and wish you a wonderful week
Just wanted to say thanks for making videos! Got into warhammer, and I can’t afford it, but I learned I love painting minis! Your channel is a great resource for me, so thank you sincerely for sharing your experience and perspective.
this will get lost here but thank you so much. i got into 40k maybe 3 months ago and you have been so helpful and showed me a lot. I hope to be half as good as you one day. keep doing what you are doing and im loving your content. ^.^
I really like this. Playability is really important, and it seems like it's something that gets forgotten a lot. Some of my favorite terrain is really playable. The game of Five Parsecs from Home that i am running as a group rpg/adventure game uses an assortment of fully complete, undamaged buildings that were 3D printed, made by Corvus Terrain. what makes these great is that unlike a lot of solid buildings, you can lift the roof and actually play inside of the buildings too. I like adding random items inside of the buildings for the players at my table to encourage exploration. Great terrain really makes a game so much more engaging.
Started a new job today, included a tour of the huge steelworks in my city, where I'll be doing a lot of work. Got extremely excited to just commit to a forge world as the setting for my terrain collection. Also set my decision in stone to buy Nachmund.
@@GoobertownHobbies I think Nachmund is that 'treat yourself' I've already been collecting Corsairs for about 5 years, well, before GW killed them a few editions ago.... After today I'm also pretty sure I can get excited about building and painting all that industrial Mechanicus terrain.... although my newfound real life inspiration makes the box art look positively cartoonish in it's colour and cleanliness!!!! No way I could ever believe any real grimddark industrial forge world would have even a single square cm of painted or rust free steel.
I randomly went out and bought the Chalnath terrain two weeks ago thinking it would be a nice, simple project. It was a surprisingly large amount of work just to get it all cleaned up and assembled. Yesterday a guy in my neighbourhood was selling another copy of it new on sprue and heavily discounted so naturally I had to get it. Now I have to go through the building process all over again. Then of course a decade of painting them.
Tamiya tip. Put a big wad of sticky tack on the bottom of the pot and press it down on your work surface so you can't accidently knock it over. The extra thin and extra thin quick dry are so thin you will lose most of a pot if it gets tipped on accident. I learned the hard way.
Terrain is one of those projects that just keeps sliding down my to-do list. I really need to sit down and get some built so I can play at-home Warhammer 40k, One Page Rules, and Star Wars Legion games - not to mention the endless amounts of D&D terrain needed!
Perhaps ad some static grass? It's perfectly possible to create your own woodstain using (cleaning) vinegar and steel wool. Nice and cheap and it gives fresh wood an old grey wheaterd look.
Nice change of pace, to see a video on quick and nice terrain painting. I think it's very tempting to go crazy with the fine details of glyphs and patterns, but playing terrain should not distract too much from the miniatures, I think. Painting some details to make individual pieces of these ruins stick out (like one small building that got wild patterns all over the walls) is good to highlight that building and it gets too "busy" visually, when everything looks like that. I mean, it's anyone's choice, but I prefer terrain pieces to not distract too much from the miniatures. It's also nice that it sorta cuts down on the workload ;)
These turned out really nicely! Well done. One question though - how do you store terrain like this when you aren’t using it? I have limited storage space in my house, so any tips are appreciated.
I've been keeping my pieces from these sets modular and not glued together. I can stack the wall segments pretty efficiently and save a lot of space. Downside is I need to assemble it each time I want to use it and if its a whole wargaming tables worth of terrain it takes a little bit.
Really nice! I've backed two of their Kickstarters... haven't received anything yet, but yours turned out great. I'll try a similar approach when mine arrive. :-D
Turned out absolutely awesome! I backed the Rampart KS for a dollar, still need to go through the PM! xD But the Kazumi/Aztec terrain was definitely the one that looked the most interesting to me. ;)
Thats some good looking terrain, nice use of miliput. I liked your wood stained walkways. Some jungle scatter mixed in and you'll have a great table of lost ruins to adventure in. Shame those weird looking platform connectors looked so out of place after all the work that went into creating such thematic terrain pieces.
This terrain looks fantastic! Really nice work with the sprays and drybrushing, so simple and effective. My biggest fear with terrain? Finding somewhere to store it when not in use... hahaha
Dammit Brent I don't need you to show how awesome this terrain is and how easy it is to paint and look fab! Genius grout technique btw :) I got a ton of this terrain from two Kickstarters and now there is no excuse for getting my thumb out of my a$$ and do it. Was planning on magnetising them but how many different configurations am I going to use, especially when magnetising means I leave it and therefore do not use it all! Also got a paint scheme in mind with ideas of using this stuff with Dwarven Forge Wildlands when it hits the UK. Top video Goobs and very inspiring :)
Nice!! Maybe you could glue some bits and magnetize others? Either way, definitely get on it and get you some terrain ready to go! Times tickin, that wildlands will be on your doorstep before you know it :-)
Hey Brent, have you seen the Dirty Down Verdigris, Rust, and Moss paints? I think that having your perspective on the paints and how they work as a chemist would make for a very interesting video.
I gotta dive into this business. I have them, I've used them a bit, but I've honestly been hesitant to do much with them because of the price... people aren't scoffing at the price though, so maybe I should check them out!
will we see a return of the goobertown roulette anytime soon? i've loved watching the random painting challenges whilst i paint my own minis. side note: you have a nice voice for naration.
Free video idea suited for your channel, and would reach more people if i just did it my self: How does Sunlight affect your paintjob over time? Background, So at some point during the day direct sunlight will hit my glass cabinet with painted minies and i wonderd if it would overtime degrade my paintjobs like an old car that been in the sun for long time on which you can see the paint has been washed out. and ofc see if varnish would do any differece. Put a glass box on the roof with basecoated minies and some basecoat plus varnish then some with the same paint and varnish indoors in a box and then compare them after a year. not too much effort from yourside, you already have the minies from when you moved them around the board over and over video? :)
I have some of these ramparts sets [just 1 box, your 3 makes me jelly] and was thinking using a very similar colour to its plastic colour and adding some VERY fine sand to texture. Thoughts? I heard you should avoid using sand.
Looks pretty cool man. Id be wondering the price of course and if you never glue all of it and painted it. Would the paint ware out by the connections ? Ether way though it looks pretty good man.
spraypaint with a coat of sealant on top is pretty durable, but yeah eventually you'd get some chipping. I'm unsure of the cost of these kits, they go on kickstarter sales sometimes, and I think it varies a bit. Keep your eye out for the ramparts/ dungeons and lasers kickstarters from archon studio.
