... so my son and I are doing this exact thing. Especially with how modular you can make them. I mean if you're absolutely desperate, you just go ahead and just spray paint them or so what you displayed. But it's so nice to actually see someone else who thought of the exact same thing! Especially with the same kitbashing ideas with those black Templars.
If I had funds, I would use one of those guided cutting machines, and just cut very simple sheet styrene / plasticard patterns and put them on one side so that its generic textured without going into too much detail.
If we really want to get quick and easy (and cheap) with this, just use printed card stock pictures of your terrain and walls, glue em on, and go. Mark up the sides with a sharpie or something, should work wonders. If I ever see some of these in a garage sale, I'm going to try just that before I get further into modding them. And when you're done with the printed look, just use those as your "blueprints" for adding to them and make styrene layered 3D textures (as Mr. Redfield suggests!)
My son builds some awesome structures using these, coliseums and what look like internal layouts of space ships. Every time I look at them I imagine a 40k table, this is a great idea.
I've been staring at my kids manga tiles for the last year thinking this. It was really cool to see them done up. The one downside to the picasso tiles vs actual magna tiles is that they are not riveted, so they are a little more fragile. We actually had to take the picasso tiles away until my youngest is a bit older because they knocked a few of the magnets out and we were worried about her swallowing them.
This is an absolute RUclips of an idea, really brings a whole new world of level building and practicality, PLUS those magnet blocks are incredible fun to play with so there’s literally no loss
Seen this posted in an FB group and had to check it out. Awesome video. You've probably saved a bunch of people a bunch of money and got the juices flowing! Beyond even the Boarding Actions, this stuff will be very useful. Great shout.
We just got my niece and nephew some of these exact tiles for Christmas. I don't think they'd appreciate me confiscating them less than a month after giving it to them
This is fantastic... what a great idea. Ive been tripping over my daughters ones of these for weeks now. Now they have a purpose... I may even have to "buy her" more... 😉
A bit of sanding on the faces of the tiles and the backs of your glued on details will improve glue bonding no end. This is a great idea and looks very cool.
This is a really great idea! Got a set ordered. For the mesh parts another option is cross-stich/embroidery mesh. You can order it in different sizes, shapes, and colors. It's made of plastic and more rigid than the drywall tape. I bought a batch of them a couple weeks ago intending to use them as some kind of terrain and they will work perfectly with the magnetic tiles. Thanks for the great idea!
Super good idea, Great way to make the hobby more accessible. I am going to try and combine this with some eldar bits and make a scintillating xenos webway....thing....yeah...
i saw this pass on reddit a few days ago but seeing a vid of someone who actually painted some, this looks so handy and very easy to store etc as well i most likely buy some in the future but frst i have some grey plastic to paint 😅
Amazing. This looks like exactly what I've always wanted to make a space hulk style board. Everyone always does cramped corridors in their space ships, but some of the descriptions for Capitol ships are basically just wide open spaces. You could do a whole 4x4 table in this style and be able to set up cargo bays and massive ship interiors for normal games
This is an amazing idea. We only have a few of them but once my daughter ages out of them I just might have to repurpose them. I'll have to start watching ebay for some deals as well
Genius idea. I wonder when someone will commission the chinese factory that produces all of those toy magnet tiles to manufacture those with random scifi greeble already on the tiles and sell them for 100% markup. I'd prefer though if some 3D print modeller would create templates to glue on those. If handled well literally a game changer. Especially if you look at the price point GW is selling their boarding action terrain.
This is blowing my mind. It's so easy! And you can get _really_ detailed with it, with paper straws or paperclips or garden wire or nail art beads or card stock. I'm predicting it now: these kinds of toys are suddenly going to become high priced commodities on the Internet, simply from their application in this context.
This could be useful in recreating ship interior or bases, I'm already looking into the size of the Retribution Class Battleship for miniatures, and found it to be as long as 420ft, so creating it in parts, and scattering them for different teams for an ultimate Boarding Action tournament, and using these tiles should be creating everything a lot easier too, especially creating costume door tiles too, air ducts, and who knows what else too lol 🤣
This is awesome - gotta set an alert for magnet tiles now to find a good deal. In the past I had luck finding amazing Playmobil pieces for D&D but this might be even better.
You are 4 years behind me in this concept. I even designed an entire game that uses magnetic tiles. But the last 4 years of my life has been a living hell & I have had to put it on the back burner. It feels good to know that I was throughly on to something.
I thought about this before but the ones my daughter has are hollow and have pretty weak magnets so I didn't take it any further. I'll have to look into that specific brand.
im buying a whole set of these n getting some of my players to help me make a nice pile to use for my magicpunk/scifi campaign, i have generic cave/dirt floors for other things, but i am beyond excited to make full on structures. i am definitely going to have missions where they are sent to destroy a building in a mech or something like that now, because that just sounds badass. im going to paint them a more gold color to fit my setting, and im going to find some different floor textures/wall greebles, but this idea was brilliant!
Was about to buy some terrain since I wanted to get into less vertical Kill Team games (less of a mess when playing it than towering MDF-stuff 3 stories high) but this is a perfect alternative. Thanks man, I (and my wallet) appreciate it
ooh, very clever use of existing stuff.

@@markdickeyThis is an awesome idea! Love it.
Can I see your video of what you made out of them
Wow. For me, this is a game changer. Thanks so much
Kickstarter!!!!! Sci-fi / fantasy magnetic scenery.
Perfect idea for this terrain and narrative games. It's a Tau 3D training simulator.
haha love it!
The dayglo colours are perfect for Infinity, sold!
Picasso Tiles is gonna owe you a Christmas card.
Not gonna lie, this is low key genius.
Brilliant. Stunning. Bold. Never done before. Amazing. Innovative. Never the same. Kudos.
Thank you for this.
Thank YOU for the kind words!
Wow, this is some of the most innovative low budget crafting I've seen. I'm definitely thinking about doing this now
low budget? where do you find these that are affordable?
@@fragfmgill I think he means compared to GW 😅
50$ on Amazon for 100 pieces is a great deal
@@nethercreature That is pretty good deal.
I would say ebay or a yard sale if your lucky
Useing the triangles to make a pyramid like platform was genius.
You are a genius, such an simple solution to more overpriced plastic
I'm only 2 minutes into this video and I can already see that it's just straight up genius.
My daughters have been playing with these tiles since they were babies, never crossed my mind... Thanks!
I never knew those magnetic tiles existed Thanks for enlightening me to new hobby hack
My son builds some awesome structures using these, coliseums and what look like internal layouts of space ships. Every time I look at them I imagine a 40k table, this is a great idea.
It's funny you should mention this. My kid has these, and while he was playing with them the other day and I thought of the same thing.
dude you just revolutionized Wargaming
I loved magnatiles as a kid, still have them. Fond memories
This is brilliant, I have repurposed so many kids toys for terrain I've lost count, I never even knew these were a thing, but then I don't have kids

Great to know! I'll have to confiscate those... for science.
Can I get a cut of those?
This is an absolute RUclips of an idea, really brings a whole new world of level building and practicality, PLUS those magnet blocks are incredible fun to play with so there’s literally no loss
Thanks! Yeah it’s so easy to get lost in thought playing with them 😂
I love how you can halfway tell a player’s trade in life by his low budget solutions to Killteam
Never thought I'd want a toy for three year old lol. Amazing idea!
You've just altered my reality!
"She wont notice a few missing..." "REDY IS GOOOOONNNNEEEEE! 😭" 😆
As a 20-30 year old. MagnetTiles are the best

Lmao a FB group
@@ramendampfen And? I get most of my armies 2nd hand for a great discount from facebook groups. Rip Bozo, you won't be missed.
I love kitbashing terrain like this, especially from my kids' toys or stuff from the thrift store.
Perfect sized tiles to make a Deadzone gaming board. Going to post this to the Deadzone groups.
Thanks for sharing it!

Been looking for a tile system for the Alien rpg that I liked and this is perfect instant corridors for a xeno to prowl through!
Awesome!!
Outstanding solution
I will do this and ping once done as well! (ordering the blocks now!)
Wait, that’s so incredibly smart!
def going to take this further
This would be perfect for Deadzone!

I absolutely Love this Idea. Especially for terrain you can store easily for portability.

Neat! Good to know, thanks!
This is so creative and I love how easy it is using what you already have to jazz it up
Thanks Andy!
Can see this being great for dungeon crawling in ttrpgs as well.
Praise be to thee! Will be trying this for sure!
I’m stealing this for pathfinder/D&D buildings and streets. This is LITERALLY a tenth of the cost and a hundredth of the effort of dragon lock
do it!
I should try this for Cyberpunk!
Super idea! Kids were getting old enough that i nearly tossed those…. Will convert for Space Station Zero now! Thanks
Haha have fun!
Drywall tape right on Amazon too :)
i tought my kids about drop pods using their magnet tiles
Thank you for this idea will try it out.

Bruuuh, this is awesome
Edit: My friend and I have been looking online and decided to try this with a cheap brand here in Australia.

Gonna have to get back into kill team so I have an excuse to make sci fi terrain now... Looks super fun and effective
What a great Idea!!! Awesome! Will buy Tons of these 😍😍😍

I have a set coming in this afternoon. man this was a great idea haha. genius
Your video inspired me, i am making a starship interior out of these tiles.
You are a genius sir! Bravo!
This is actually genius. If I still played I would certainly use these.
Pure genius. You can even do dungeon tiles, etc.

Very cool! It would be really easy and fast to 3d print some panels for those tiles as well, might give that a try
I would love to try this out, and it would be great for bringing to stores
Yeah man! It packs up real tight.
